Help with wholesale deletions by apparent political apparatchiks

Hi Missvain, there appears to be some problems with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBD_and_South_East_Light_Rail#Design

A few different usernames (possibly the same or linked people) are making what appear to be politically motivated (checked edit history of one person who's contributions have been to add 40+ bios favourable to one political party and several bios raising corruption allegations against rival [political party).

I have provided references for my edits and am a member of the Community Representatives appointed for this project with the State Govt (I can provide substantiation if desired).

There appears to be a concerted effort as we approach a State Govt election to censor any details that do not follow one party's Official line.

Coincidentally since making some changes to this entry a number of consultants linked to the project have visited my Linkedin profile.

I have used 'talk' to try and contact the latest wholesale deletion but looking through the history for this username does not give much hope.

How do I resolve these wholesale deletions?

Hi there User:A M R Sydney. I think your best bet is to bring this up on the talk page of the article you're concerned about. And also talk to User:Gareth, since that editor is very experienced in the subject area and has been editing Wikipedia for quite sometime. Of course, if you have a conflict of interest regarding the subject - you should not be editing about it. If you do think there are issues regarding people from the government editing, you should report them here. Sorry if that isn't the answer you're seeking - it's a subject area that I am not experienced with, so I don't feel comfortable advising on it - I don't know enough to know what is and what isn't right regarding edits made to it. Missvain. Thank you for your help. As a newcomer to editing Wikipedia (been editing online archives for National Library of Australia for a while - OCR only can do so much) it is a bit daunting to learn all the different pathways involved.

In response to my attempted 'talk' with the usernames the edits are now in smaller chunks ranging from 1,500+ character to 500+ character deletions. They have not responded to me though just altered their approach (sum of deletions = same impact of previous 4,000+ character deletion). They continue to delete direct quotes from the Govt's own Environmental Impact Statement on the project - for some reason they find the details unpalatable. Also deleting direct quotes from the local City Council's Resolutions about the project and the cost of mitigating negative impacts (although the Council is a staunch supporter of the project). I think this does represent a conflict of interest and lack of balance being forced into the page. Is my line of thought correct or am I missing something?

Well, welcome. It's usually not this intense - but, looks like you picked a subject that is pretty active! Anyway, if you do think the person does have a conflict of interest - the best place is to report them on the COI noticeboard. The folks over there will be able to give you the best feedback and help regarding the circumstance. I'd do that before you get yourself into a mess beyond what has already started. Username block

You blocked Nileshkumarmahadev (talk · contribs) as a promotional username, based, I believe, on the user's creation of the article Nilickr(Application). While the article clearly needed to be deleted, I believe the user has simply used his own name for his username (Nilesh Kumar Mahadev), which is not a violation of the username policy. The fact that he named his application in part after his own name might explain the similarity, but I don't think the username block was warranted. I generally expect administrators to behave better when their actions are questioned than to simply ignore the question. Hi User:WikiDan61. I have a pretty busy life outside of Wikipedia, so, I don't always respond quickly. It's clearly a self promotional account. Check out their user contributions. They are adding their own website and products to articles. I don't think this behavior warrants an unblock. If you do believe that this user warrants an unblock, I'm happy to hear further reasons why, preferably from them. I really appreciate your concern. I'm happy to discuss this with the user themselves if they would like to share a "plea" for why they should be unblocked. But, as we both know, promoting one's own website and product isn't kosher here on Wikipedia. It's probably best to be brought up on said users talk page, versus here, so they can be aware of the conversation. It looks like the template did not get added to their talk page (sometimes Twinkle is a fail). I'll add it, and perhaps they'll want to share some ideas and thoughts about the blocking and why they should be unblocked. Thanks so much for stopping by my talk page. I don't disagree that the user's contributions were problematic, just that the excuse for blocking (bad username) was improper. Users can be blocked simply for overt spamming, sometimes temporarily, sometimes permanently, but a user shouldn't be blocked for using their own name as a username. As for responding quickly, I would not have become impatient except that I did see you make several other contributions in the time after my first message, so I knew you were active on the site. Hi! Got it, I blocked probably 30 users for having COI names, so, no surprise that I messed up ONE! Sometimes it can be very tiring reading all my talk page messages, so, I usually wait until I have the energy and emotional capacity to take it on. Query over declined article

Hello Missvain, please can you expand on the reason for rejected the article on Draft:Bureau_van_Dijk as "not adequately supported by reliable sources" despite having Reuters, Bloomberg and BIIA as references. These sources meet the definition of a 'reliable source' as defined here Wikipedia:Verifiability.

Hi User:Jimmybuk. Here is why your citations are problematic and not WP:RELIABLE (follow that link to learn more about what a reliable source is):

1. [1] this is just a mere mention. Reuters is a wire service, meaning, they pick up all kinds of things, even press releases, and supply brief statements about them - like this. We need significant coverage, meaning an entire article written by a third party source, about this subject - this is a mere mention and no one picked it up, so, that doesn't meet notability guidelines.
2. [2] is another mere mention, it even reads like a press release, we can't assume this is reliable secondary.
3. [3] This is a reliable secondary source, since it's more indepth, and it states the journalists names, however, it's not enough to determine notability about the subject. Merely stating that they are being bought out by some other banks/companies merely means we can mention it on those banks/companies Wikipedia articles. It probably doesn't mean that BVD should have its own article.
4. [4] is not a reliable secondary source because companies provide this information. Therefore, BVD provided it, so it's not eligible.
5. [5] is a broken link and is from BVD's website, thus you can't use it.

Sorry, but, it appears that based on your sources BVD is not eligible to have it's own Wikipedia article. It needs to have multiple extensive articles written by magazines, newspapers, and other publications (NOT PRESS RELEASES) in order to be considered on Wikipedia. At the very least this should have been relisted to come to a better consensus. Not really sure how you determined the consensus was keep. To me it was pretty clear that no consensus had been reached and I still believe he clearly fails WP:NCOLLATH. A special teams player from a non-power conference with a couple of articles about scholarships to different schools and high-school all-american does not a notable person make. Gladstone (humorist) Deletion

Hello Missvain, I was looking for information on author Wayne Gladstone and found you had recently deleted his wikipedia page for lack of content written about him (as opposed to content that he has written). At the time the original petition for deletion was filed in 2010, he was a columnist for Cracked.com, as well as a contributor to various other online publications and creator of a popular video series. At this point in time, he is also an author of the Notes From The Internet Apocalypse trilogy. It seemed that many interviews and writings about him were overlooked and I would like to know how one would go about reinstating his page. Links of reference include: 1. For instance, this is far greater depth than the information shown on voice actor Lucky Yates (about whom there is no written press) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_Yates Further, Wayne Gladstone is already mentioned in several other Wikipedia pages and therefore has a fair amount of click-through information on him already present on Wikipedia that deserves to be housed on its own individual page. I do accept what you say about a member of an organisation being likely to have a bias but which way!!!? A member can have many criticisms of an organisation and a non-member might well equally have a bias one way or another..... but fair enough.

I have looked through the article and do find a few words which might possibly in a stretch be construed as not sufficiently neutral. But since it is not specific phrases which are being criticised but rather my association with the organisation, I won't bother making changes. It would be great if someone could edit what I wrote. But then, for some sources, they'd have to go into the ADG office. And who would take this on, I can't imagine?

I can only hope that someone will do the editing someday.

Since I wrote the article the registration of the ADG as a union has come through. But the only reference I have for that is in the e-news that was sent out a couple of weeks ago. So I think, I'll just let it stand as is.

I hope to write about more distant subjects in future when I have time -- I think Wikipedia is a complex and fascinating enterprise.

Been a long day - we had an edit-a-thon and i'm trying to get the new articles cleaned up before tags get added - they get added so quickly and I have such limited time to clean them up so they don't get tagged (it's very demoralizing for new editors). They were easily-identified-as-notable topics; it was easy to find more references. There are a couple frustrations here, with potentially discouraging notability-in-question tags when something more supportive would been suitable, and with frustration about frustration with that. this is why i never remove tags, even after improving the article. let the tag spam stand as a rebuke to those who add only and never fix anything. the orphanage is growing. notability tag is a poor stand-in for AfD, next to orphan. and this is an article rejected at AfC as well. Hi Missvain,

I've recently found that humorist/author Wayne Gladstone's Wikipedia page has been deleted, and on researching the deletion process, found the discussion and reasoning behind this. I am wondering if this is the right place to open a dialogue about restoring the page?

It seems that there has already been an edit on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Gladstone_(humorist)_(2nd_nomination) outlining the independent sources in which Gladstone is featured or significantly mentioned, which is very thorough - however I'm not sure this is the correct place to hold the discussion once the page has already been deleted.

Apologies if I've come to the wrong place - could you provide some guidance on how best to proceed?

Arbitrary deletion of article Rajesh Bhola

Dear Sir, A strong protest is herewith lodged against the morality principles of Wikipedia. It had been indeed very shocking to see that suddenly the said article which was published by Wikipedia (through submission of the same in Articles for Creation AFC and not created by my own self) after due course of discussions / verifications of references and links etc has been deleted without assigning plausible / tangible reasons after 9 months of its creation on 6 July 2014. Though I am a regular duly logged in contributor to Wikipedia and has made certain quality contributions in growth of Wikipedia by submitting articles / modification from time to time, the said arbitrary and erratic deletion has pained me immensely. I have been informed that “This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.” The reason / argument given is false and misleading. The person about whom the article is published is notable as per your rules. The notability is duly established by way of attachment of number of references which are authentic sources for making the subject notable. The submissions made by me were duly accepted by you and hence the article was published by you under AFC and not directly by myself. The notability of the subject is duly established by way of his contributions to the most esteemed newspapers and periodicals of India. He has made more than 200 contributions to such papers and periodicals apart from being founder of Spastic Society of Gurgaon where more than thousands of children afflicted with autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and multiple disabilities are being taken care of and a page is duly published by you on the same after due acknowledgement of the notability of that subject. It is unethical to delete a page which is published by you in AFC after taking due cognizance of all the aspects and criteria of notability and genuineness of the subject until something to the contrary is found or reported! How can an article published by you 9 months back be suddenly deleted with the above reason when due debate was held and the article was published by your official in AFC after due submission of article by me. I request you to immediately undelete the article for the creation of which due process of compliance of Wikipedia criteria and policies has already been done. Let your readers, who are spread in all the nooks and corners of this planet, retain trust in your policies which should not sound arbitrary at any stage of evolution of Wikipedia. Blocking of User:FeministArtGallery

Just querying that you blocked this page (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion). Feminist Art Gallery is not a commercial entity but an artistic collaboration started by artists Allyson Mitchell and Deirdre Logue (see http://www.allysonmitchell.com/html/fagGallery.html). So I would argue it is no more promotional than an artist using her given name as a wiki user name. Writing on their behalf because I co-hosted the Toronto Art+Feminism meetup where this username was created. Plus the sandbox contains the beginnings of a great article on FASTWÜRMS! Hi User:Artchivist1, the name is still against policy, if you read Wikipedia:Username policy, usernames cannot reflect or represent groups - whether commercial or non-profit or a collaboration. As a feminist and the founder of WikiProject Women artist's, I really didn't like having to block them, but, it is against policy. Majd Izzat al-Chourbaji

Can you/will you, go back and peruse Majd Izzat al-Chourbaji? I have redone the article removing the perfumery. It is too bad, as I think that the contributor spoke Arabic. Would be very helpful to have an Arabic contributor on it, but that wouldn't be me. I could not figure out how to verify the content that she was a founder of the newspaper http://www.enabbaladi.org/ so I removed that. Can anyone vote? I am completely and totally confused as to why her physical presentation is even being discussed. It is a photograph illustrating an artist at work. No where in the guidelines posted Wikipedia:Featured picture criteria does it state that a photograph of a person must be identifiably masculine, feminine, or even of that person. In particular, it says "It illustrates the subject in a compelling way, making the viewer want to know more" and this "A featured picture is not always required to be aesthetically pleasing; it might be shocking, impressive, or just highly informative." As the article is about an artist, she and her work together are what make her a noteworthy person. Thus an image of her work is highly informative and would be whether she was in the picture or not in it at all. Would they be objecting if "David" were used as an image to illustrate Michelangelo? As an activist of many decades, IMO it is internalized "ism" and they aren't even aware they are doing it. Bechdel is not famous because she is a woman, nor am I, nor is any woman I know. People are famous because of something they do or did, not because of what they are. One doesn't really "do" womanhood (unless of course one is a drag queen or female impersonator or a spy). Because women are often objectified, the accomplishment is reduced if "she" becomes the target. Seen it way too many times to count. In this case, double jeopardy, or maybe that is triple jeopardy -- "femalegendernonconforminglesbian". SusunW (talk) 19:03, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

I have since found reliable sources including one from www.ixbt.com, other research journals reviews and would like to edit the page according to Wikipedia Notability rules, please advice the procedure, how it can be done. I suggest you submit it through Articles for Creation so others can review it and then move it to the main space if it passes notability guidelines. Hi there. This falls into the WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS area of Wikipedia. You should not be editing about your business. That's a conflict of interest and you'll most likely be blocked from editing Wikipedia. So, I suggest you edit other subjects that interest you as an individual and when your business is notable enough I'm sure someone unrelated or unassociated to your business will write about it. Women Painters of the World

Glad to read you like my Women Painters of the World stubs - some interesting stats (still counting): 19th century artists=139, 18th century artists=34, 17th century artists=8, 16th century artists=6, 15th century artists=2. I think it's fun to resurrect these old feminist art publications to see where we stand today, but most importantly, to see where the women in art *stood* at the time of those publications. As of today, I have only been able to find one misattribution from that particular book (an engraving that was probably by a guy and not a gal). Do you have access to any art catalogs of first-wave feminist art shows? I am impressed at the work done here and I feel inspired to do that (onwiki of course) for a few first-wave feminist art shows of the Netherlands. Jane (talk) 09:50, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

I know this may be a dumb question, but why would you remove the Vimeo from the brief bio of Paluzzi on the Totem site? Did you take the time to actually view it, and if you did, do you understand how much it adds to the understanding of the Artist who created the sculpture? Hi, Missvain, and thank you for creating new geographical articles and expanding History sections. Your sources are excellent, and I really appreciate that. But could I give you a little advice? Try using Citation tool for Google Books when adding refs to online books. Thanks User:Gilliam. I actually do use it - quite frequently (you can see an example here.) However, in the realm of footnotes...and the researcher/curator I am in my professional life admittedly, I'd prefer to use page by page footnotes and note the reference for the book in the sources section. It's just habit - and all of the "good articles" I have written use that method...so it's treated me well so far.. and I figure anyone hardcore enough to want to learn about early Indiana history won't mind going to page 117 in a book with a quick click on Google Books. deOrphaning script

Hello everyone! I was just working on responding to a couple bug reports for a script that I worked up as part of a request from this project, and I noticed that only a couple people (who weren't even on this mailing list) are actually using the script. A little history on the script: In March of 2014, Jim Cartar came to my user talk page and said he needed some help in acquiring a script for a backlog drive that he was working on that could keep track of and score deOrphanings for a scored backlog drive. I took that request to the project's talk page (BackLog Drive "DO" (De-Orphaning) script proposal) and there was near unanimous support for this. I thought about the proposal and decided the best way to do it was to build a new script (which is still no where near as comprehensive as Manishearth's OrphanTabs) and build into it a mechanism that will make BLD scoring easy.

What I'm wondering at this point is, since there appears to be only two people using the script, should I continue to develop this script with a goal of using it for scoring BLDs or just debug the existing script and leave it at that. Thanks for any replies or comments.
