OrphanBot
[edit]- I concur with this. In particular, it's in extremely bad taste to use the Nazi symbolism to "declare war" on another editor, and against Wikipedia policy to make such an offensive statement in reference to another editor; I have removed it. You may disagree with the actions of Carnildo and OrphanBot, but "declaring war" will do you no good. I suggest you attempt to have a civil discussion about the practices you disagree with instead. Mindspillage (spill yours?) 06:09, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Arbitration
[edit]Hello, please help with a case about alleged adminship abuse by JzG, which had been rejected by three arbitrators before an administrator warned the accused one and undid part of his actions. The conflict is going on and I do not know how to find a solution. The only arbitrator who has sinced voted on the case is one who in my eyes is in a conflict of interest as he did a very similar block on me in the past that I think was abusive and that was undone by Theresa as it lacked any evidence of wrongdoing by me. I had suggested a change to the blocking policy but the discussion about it has up to now been inconclusive due to a lack of participants. Socafan 02:12, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Amazing
[edit]You are truly one of the most amazing editors. You have your priorities straight, you are an administrator, on the ArbCom (which, in my eyes, is the most prestigious group!) and are just plain amazing. As I type this message, you are at Wikimania, another sign of your devotion. You are a kind editor, and almost over respected. I will stop babbling and cut to the chase. I want to you to go for bureacratship. You are more than qualified. The only reason I did not nominate you myself is Bur. is generally done by self-nom. You really ought to consider it. I know you are busy on other projects, but you should really consider. If you have made an editor like myself sit here for five minutes telling you how great you are, you must be pretty good... Consider it. Viva La Vie Boheme

Private arbcom stuff
[edit]I have an idea for lowering the temperature on the "admins open to recall" and other "divine right of admins" stuff. It's a proposal for ArbCom, however, and ArbCom alone, rather than the general site, as what I have in mind is a new procedure for AC action. Any way I can outline it and get it to AC consideration? Would it be best to work it up and then e-mail it, or work it up in user space and then drop a link to you and others? (My point being that the wider public would probably misunderstand what I'm proposing, not that it would be disagreeable to them.) Geogre 18:21, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Sure. Basically, I'm advocating a new category of action and, I hope, a change of attitude and philosophy so that actions can be more fluid, less traumatic, and more satisfying to the aggrieved. Granted, it's a palliative, but we need one. Kat, if you're out there, let me know what you think. Geogre 22:19, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Abrasive comments
[edit]I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your having noted my efforts to improve. I admit that my edit summaries and comments are sometimes abrasive, but is abrasiveness truly a crime? It formerly took me enormous efforts and emotional strain to daily check my 3,000-entry watchlist for POV edits and trolling. I have recently been persuaded that my character and temperament are perhaps not suited for administrating such a large segment of WP. Since my watchlist is full of entries written by myself and not duplicated in the watchlists of other wikipedians, if ever I see a serious POV problem, I try to inform more forbearing editors that they ought to deal with it. Hopefully this strategy will help me to concentrate on writing articles. Regards, Ghirla -трёп- 15:54, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

VIE
[edit]While that's definitely true for the origin of VIE, the problem nowadays is that many newer users tend to ignore pages in Wikispace unless they're marked as "official" somehow (this is probably a result of the fact that Wikispace is rather messy and byzantine) - and if VIE is just a perceived-as-ignorable essay, they happily keep on asking for votes on e.g. merging, random proposals, etc. I don't particularly like this fact but I can't think of a good way of changing it so far, so imho the least we can do towards educating people is marking clearly which pages are and aren't consensual. $.2 >Radiant< 18:45, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
I once was confused, but now am...
[edit]I dunno, soemthing. I just discovered that I must have registered here twice. There's my current userinformation, and then there's a "Bill Spencer" registration for someone who did edits in Hindemith & Grünewald (which you noted on that user talk page back in February). That sounds an awful lot like something I would have done; hard for me to imagine there would be a second person with my name hanging out in the same obscure corners. Oh well. Is there any way to consolidate that old username with the current one? Not that it's that important at all at all, but still... Merci! --Wspencer11 (talk to me...) 12:46, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Past AfD nomination of Intercounty Baseball League
[edit]Mindspillage, just noticed this past AfD and I fully support the decision to keep this article. Anyone familiar with Canadian baseball knows that the IBL is a serious men's baseball league with a long history (since 1919) that has produced several members of Major League Baseball, AAA baseball, AA baseball and A baseball, while also featuring former MLB players and former Negro Leagues players of the past. To delete it would have been a travesty. Additionally, several former IBL players have been inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum in St. Marys, Ontario. Barry Wells 16:50, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- Further to the above AfD nomination, I'd like to add that the IBL has had numerous former MLB players in the league, including Fergie Jenkins (who's the only player to have been inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame), Frank Colman, Denny McLain, Dave Rozema, Paul Spoljaric, Rob Butler, Oscar Judd, Tim Burgess, Mike Kilkenny and several outstanding former Negro Leagues players.
- Additionally, many many players have been paid to play (albeit under the table), the league has many corporate sponsors, fans, competent, paid umpires, an official media guy, statistician, record books, commissioner and local TV contracts. It is serious baseball, with most parks (all but one, I believe) charging admission. The 1948 London Majors not only won the Intercounty title, but also the Ontario title, the Canadian title and the Can-Am title. Drinking beer while playing is not permitted, as one user frivously suggested. Many former IBL players have also gone on to baseball scholarships at U.S. universities, pro careers with MLB organizations or AAA ball, AA ball or A ball. The London Majors play at Labatt Park, the undisputed (to date) world's oldest baseball grounds in continuous use since 1877 (a heritage site under the Ontario Heritage Act) -- a park which won the prestigious Beam Clay Award as the best natural grass baseball park in North America in 1989-90. Hi! You probably haven't seen much of me around at Wikipedia, but I've been quite impressed by what you had to say at User:Mindspillage/admin. It's formed the basis of a number of editor reviews that I've given, and has proven very useful for explaining to recent change patrollers how best to approach the activity.
However, it addresses only one of a number of things that I believe should be explained better to new and inexperienced users, many of whom receive exactly the same advice when they request a review. So, I've started to write an essay of my own to address those other issues, drawing on yours as reinforcement. So, I'd just like to ask you two quick questions. :)
- Do you believe there are any changes that should be made to the content of that essay, so far? If I've screwed anything up, neglected any particular points or said something you utterly disagree with, I'd be really grateful to hear about it. Even a quick glance would be very helpful. :)
- Secondly, assuming you approve of the content and the sentiment, would you be happy for me to quote your essay (as I already have) in my own? The section that I reproduced is really nicely written, and I think it does a lot to explain the reasoning behind treating vandals as human beings.
Anything you have to say (up to, and including, "your page made my eyes bleed") would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Daveydweeb (chat/patch) 11:25, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Vandalism-only account
[edit]I'd appreciate it if you'd block the vandalism-only account Curtis Clark's Mom. It was evidently created by User:Lufthmark because I called him to task for some copyvios. My user page and user talk page have also been vandalized by a couple of Cal Poly Pomona IP addresses. I'm appreciative that other Wikipedians are willing to help me revert all this, but we all have better things to do. Thanks for your help.--Curtis Clark 13:39, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- I believe User:CurtisClark is a sockpuppet of User:Curtis Clark's Mom and I am even more convinced that they are both sockpuppets of User:Lufthmark. I would like User:CurtisClark to change its name because of this; IMO the user is trying to create intentional confusion.--Curtis Clark 03:05, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Low Saxon OTRS queue
[edit]I would like to get set up an OTRS queue under info-nds@wikimedia.org for the Low Saxon Wikimedia projects (Wikipedia, Wiktionary and Wikisource [to be set up in the near future]). We need an own queue to handle questions and requests, that can't be handled in the public. And no, we don't want to use the general queue under info@wikimedia.org, cause this will unnecessarily slow down the answering of requests in Low Saxon. So, can you help me? And if the answer will be "I'm too busy at the moment" then please also say,
- what exactly has to be done to set up a queue
- what amount of time do these steps need
- and whom could I ask instead (I already asked Elian [no time], Frieda [no time and not able to create queues {although meta:OTRS states the opposite}] and UninvitedCompany [said, he won't set up queues for dead languages. after I explained the language is not dead, he came up with a "won't set up queues for low-traffic languages" policy, but was not able to point to the text of this "policy" or willing to explain the rationale behind the "policy" or the circumstances {how much traffic is "no large amounts of traffic", how do you measure traffic, when traffic is dependant on the creation of the queue?}])
You see me frustrated of the inability of our Wiki (the word means quick!) community to set up a little queue. It is a one-time-job, it's only the setup. I'm running from one wiki to the next and everywhere I get no real answer (or no answer at all). If there is a no-setup-policy with a comprehensible rationale behind it, then point me to it. I hope your answer will be more satisfying than the others before. --::Slomox:: >< 16:39, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

OTRS donation queue
[edit]Hi-- I'm a member of the meta:Fundraising Committee, and Mav suggested it would be useful if I could help deal with the flow on the OTRS donation queue. About disputed POVs on articles related to post-communist Eastern Europe
[edit]Hi,
I’m writting this message to you, and to User:BradPatrick and User:Joy, because I still don’t have a full knowledge of how to proceed about Wikipedia administration/mediation/arbitration.
Well, I see there’s a kind of probelm regarding the creation (by myself on november 8) of the article 1999 NATO bombing of Serbia, which I’ve redirected to NATO bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. There’s an edit war going: pro-Serbian users are trying to delete my redirect, and even when people (including myself) manifested against the deletion, the user which requested the deletion made the request again.
Please if you can help me to solve this question.
PS: Above all these problems, I don’t know about you, but I think sometimes there’s a kind of “Serbian Volunteer Guard Cabal” of users here in Wikipedia that try to make Wikipedian articles related to Serbia, Kosovo and Yugoslav Wars appear clearly pro-Greater Serbian/pro-Milosevic POV, making these articles to show an interpretation of facts very different from most of the press and academic sources around the world. A similar thing is happening now on Transnistria article, that show a clear pro-Transnistrian government POV, with a long war of arguments going on the discussion page of the article. Well, I don’t know what you can (or can’t) do about all of this, but if you have some answers pplease write to me. Best regards, --MaGioZal 13:50, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Dispute over Quote from Newspaper and NPOV on Shepard Smith page
[edit]I saw you intervened in a dispute on the Jane Skinner page. I hope you can help out on the Shepard Smith page. There is section called Controversies where there is info about a Battery charge against Smith. A newspaper article was cited with information about the charges being dropped. The quote from the article was "dropped after a confidential payoff". The dispute is over the word "payoff" and that it implies a bribe and is a slam by the author of the article and pushes a point of view. Do quotes from articles have to follow NPOV? I can't find anything that says a quote has to be NPOV. Do you have time to weigh in on this? Thanks Misstory 00:35, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Possible new CSD
[edit]I'm floating around this proposal I've written for a new CSD regarding unsourced articles: User:Dmcdevit/CSD addition. There's quite a bit of explanatory fluff there that I think explains my thinking on the matter. Right now, I'm soliciting input from people before deciding how to go about implementing it. [edit]As one of the ArbCom partaking in this case, your input/co-operation into this temporary injunction would be greatly appreciated. I wouldn't have sent you a message, but given the nature of what has occured, and the potential to stall this ArbCom case, everyone involved needs a speedy resolution or else I suspect the case will break down. Hello I am User:SuperDeng and have been indef blocked by an admin
[edit]To make a long story short
The admin who has a personal grudge against me, had made up some very nice stories about me and has continuously blocked for me 6 months. And a few months ago one of blocks ended and I made a grand total of 0 edits, but then a new char whos ip was not possbile to check appeared started makeing similar edits to mine so he was accussed of beeing a sockpuppet and I got blocked again. Now this can not be a sock puppet since I Superdeng did not do any edits and even if we were the same person then that dosent matter since superdeng was makeing zero edits the new account was created one week after my block was lifted. Bahh this is not a short story it is long. Anyway all I want is a fair trial on the arb com board where I have a chans of defending myself and not where everyone of the imaginasions of the admin is percieved as fact.
So what ever policy i violated has been served in full after 6 months.
OTRS
[edit]Hello, I would like to help with OTRS in Slovak language. I filed a request on http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/OTRS/volunteering but it doesn't seem to have any approvals since it was created on November 15. So I was asking at #wikimedia-otrs who's responsible for creating queues, but there seems to be some confusion in the process, they kept on redirecting me from one person to another until I was finally said that you are. So I hope this is finally the right place. I'm a bit frustrated that I want to help and can't get any helpful advice what to do.
On Slovak Wikipedia, we decided to outsource permissions-handling to OTRS in order to have an "official" and provable way of archiving them. Therefore we understand, that editors who understand Slovak are neded for that and with Mz decided to join. If I understand correctly how it works, we don't want info-sk queue (we can handle info inquiries on wiki), but we want permissions-sk, which would be also an email where our help pages could direct people to send their permissions. I hope I got it right and you can do that. Thank you. ~~helix84 21:32, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Dispute resolution and location
[edit]User:Grace Note has objected to my bid for ArbCom appointee, noting that I've yet to overcome the issues between myself and Giano, who apparently has an ongoing grievance. I've replied to Grace Note and find some complications in the issue, considering that I'm currently a Mediation Cabal coordinator and have worked to bring the Mediation Committee back to life: Would either of the mediation options be inherently skewed in favor of either of us, thereby eliminating them as sources of dispute resolution? Would it be more fair if, for instance, I stepped down as coordinator first?
I've also considered RfC, but considering that we both have our circles of friends, I'm unsure of how inherently neutral RfC might be in this situation: Obviously my friends will say he's at fault, his friends will find me at fault. I'm afraid both would flood true independent opinions and ideas from reaching us. I'd rather use an alternative form of dispute resolution than arbitration (unless Giano refuses a preliminary step) if possible.
Any opinion on the matter would be greatly appreciated. ~Kylu (u|t) 04:10, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Questions???
[edit]I read your commentary at User_talk:Badagnani with interest, in addition to your link to the Foundation's financial statements. As a board member, I hope you'll elighten me as to the following:
- Am I correct in understanding the WikiMedia Foundation structure [7] that Jimmy Wales essentially has veto/total power over any decision or area he chooses to become involved in, and that ArbCom, which is otherwise the body of last resort, as well as the Board of Directors, is in fact below Jimmy Wales in the foundation's heirarchy?
- Do you support the idea that as Wikipedia becomes more powerful, that it should be able to demand GFDL images of whomever that wishes to have an image on Wikipedia?
- I believe I have an understanding of the rationale of free information and photos, etc., which you took the time to outline in your view at the above User talk page, as well as from reading hundreds of other commentaries on the subject. Do you see any inherent contradiction in the "pillar" of quality when no GFDL images are, or are likely to be available for years to come of artists who do not keep a high public profile? Do you find it "quality" when the page of Cindy Crawford has no image, or that of Woody Allen has a bronze bust photo?
- Are you aware that there are people, especially fans and acquaintances of a particular artist or celebrity, that do not want CC licensed fan images on Flickr "nabbed" and used as substitutes for better quality images of same persons? And do not wish to provide any images under a GFDL or CC license for use on Wikipedia without consent from the person who's image it is?
- Why is an image of a deceased person seen as generally useful under Fair Use and Quality criteria, but images of living persons, unless released under a GFDL, not?
- What, if any, potential liability exists to the Foundation in using legitimate press and promo photos on Wikipedia, the same photos that are used by nearly every other media outlet on the planet? I have seen a lot of language tossed around about potential liability, but have seen no legal rationale that would show an additional liability that exists for Wikipedia that doesn't for other publications and media outlets.
- I read the recent materials on the current fund drive as approved by the board, but have not found the list of matching donors committed to at least $60,000 per day, as mentioned in the materials advising the need for said fund drive. Can you provide said list?
Thank you in advance, and I look forward to your reply. Tvccs 18:19, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Your edits to Talk:Concert band
[edit]I see at Talk:Concert band that "a major rewrite is in progress" and that you moved parts of the article to the talk page. In reading those parts, I heartily agree with your decision to remove them from the article - not only are they factually inaccurate (who says clarinets can't play in sharp keys!) but they are not germane to the subject of the article.
I am confused by the "major rewrite in progress" comment though. If I'm reading the page's history correctly, you made that comment in 2004? Creative Commons 3.0
[edit]Earlier I asked Eloquence if there was any discussion, decision, or Wikimedia position as to whether the Creative Commons 3.0 licenses (BY and BY-SA) are considered free licenses for the purposes of Wikimedia sites. He mentioned that you had some concerns about the moral rights clause in the CC 3.0 Unported license. I was wondering if these concerns have been resolved, or if discussion regarding CC 3.0 is still on going. That is, do you know if it is now OK for CC 3.0 content (images or text) to appear on the various Wikimedia sites? —RP88 06:04, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Mindspillage, I was looking for a lame excuse to drop you a line and say "HI", so here I found one (smile)
Mindspillage, I have inducted you into my "Wall of Honor". Now, how's that for an excuse to say "Hi" and to ask you "How you been?" Tony the Marine 15:17, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

- Um. [10] 5? Or are you talking about something else? You could have easily converted the files to a format we accept, since Ogg/Vorbis encoders are freely available on all normal platforms and there are many people who would have been glad to help you. MP3 has been an explicitly forbidden format for many years, Wikimedia is not licensed to distribute MP3, nor would we accept a proprietary format in any case. --Gmaxwell 21:07, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

- No, I hadn't seen the drama. It being Wikinews, I'm not surprised. I keep trying to come back, editing anonymously, you know. But I just can't stay away from the political nonsense. I figure, I have to stop tempting myself. Anything worth weighing in on? Ironiridis 03:27, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Wikialogo.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Wikialogo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Iamunknown 04:19, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Images
[edit]The image looks like a placeholder. It looks like we're still waiting to upload an image. It makes us look shoddy. A non-free image looks bad only to the most die-hard of Wikipedians who are aware of the issue. The main page is more about image than anything else. Solutions that make the main page look sloppy are unacceptable. Furthermore, we, by longstanding tradition, give great leeway to Raul on these matters. Raul put the image back, and has offered very good reasons why we cannot put this rule into place. That counts for enough to make swapping it immediately a bad proposition. By my count, the page had about an hour of life left when you made the edit. Absolutely no reason to make it look sloppy and bad for a point hardly anyone was going to notice. Phil Sandifer 23:06, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- Your distaste for Raul's management of the main page seems largely immaterial, as he does remain in charge. We wouldnt put an article on the main page that was waiting for an image. We shouldn't have a placeholder. Far more people will notice what looks like a missing image than will even think about the copyright issues. That's the long and short of it: you made a destructive edit to the main page - something that made us look bad to anybody who loaded the main page during any of the 15 minutes your edit was standing. That is demonstrably worse than something that made us look bad to a handful of people as obsessed with free knowledge as the most die-hard of Wikipedians. That you decided to edit war the main page is even worse - and has been a blockable offense in the past. Phil Sandifer 00:12, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- Phil, this being a free encyclopedia is at the core of our mission. The main page should reflect that, and the idea has gained strong and widespread support. Raul is not, in fact, king of the main page. Kat edited the main page appropriately according to the Foundation's recent comments, the goals of this organisation, and a strongly supported poll, including many strong arguments against the use of Fair Use on the main page. Mak (talk) 02:17, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Downtown Music
[edit]Hi Kat - Can I ask your advice? The Downtown Music article [12] I vastly expanded got tagged for original research and unattributed claims. So I added ten footnotes, all to my own books and web articles, since I'm the only person who's ever written about this. Will that satisfy them? Kylegann 10:21, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Very red talk page
[edit]Well, I popped over here just to peek, and I noticed you had several pages of red font. :) I hope I wasn't too bold in fixing someone's signature to unbreak your talk. Happily reverted if anyone takes offense. (Let me add that I hadn't noticed it after my last edit to your talk page, so it must have been a browser update or a style sheet thing.) Non-free content edit
[edit]- You can't start talking about fair use until after you've told the reader what it is, which is in the next paragraph.
- Fair use is not a Wikipedia policy; it's a legal doctrine. In order for content to be included on Wikipedia, it must meet the criteria on that policy page. The most fundamental criteria of the current policy is that it be fair use under US law. — Omegatron 02:56, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- Afectuosamente. --Pediaknowledge 02:48, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit]As you all know, some hacker cracked my password and I have been stripped of my admin powers. I can understand an admin. being blocked, but stripped of his powers without a fair hearing or consensus, I can't. I have stated that I changed my password and would like my powers back, however the chastizing going on in [[14]] has sadden me. It doesn't matter how many articles you have written, contributions you have made or how many years you have dedicated to making this project a credible one. A hacker, it seems has the power of making people consider you an untrustful person and turning some people in the community against you.
I have never abused of my powers and I have used Wikipedia as a medium to educate others. Yes, I have no regrets about having made so many contributions to the Pedia. I exhort all of my friends here to make sure that their passwords are strong ones so that you will not have to go through what I am going through.

Still an unresolved problem
[edit]As you were an arbcom member in the former cases concerning Onefortyone and Ted Wilkes, may I ask you to have a look at [15]. To my mind, there can be no doubt that User:Northmeister is identical with Ted Wilkes alias multiple-hardbanned User:DW, as he constantly removes the same content from Elvis-related article pages that Wilkes removed in the past. There may also be some further sockpuppets at work as in the recent case of Joey Joe Joe Junior Shabadoo, because there are too many editors now removing well-sourced material I have contributed to article pages. See, for instance, this edit that deleted well-sourced information and even removed a discussion of important sources concerning Elvis Presley, another edit that also removed blocks of well-sourced material and put relatively unimportant information about Bush's and Koizumi's visit to Graceland in first place of the article, and this one which again removed blocks of well-sourced information I have contributed. Furthermore, if Northmeister is actually identical with Wilkes, then this sockpuppet has clearly violated Wilkes's probation. Some administrators were also of the opinion that there is something fishy about the matter and they suggested that this material be removed to WP:SSP for thorough investigation. However, I am at a loss what to do. Perhaps you can help. 80.141.216.40 18:55, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I hope you didn't mind, Ms. Walsh, but in one of the above messages, I had to substitute the {{unsourced}} tag with text: I didn't think you wanted your talk page to be in the "unsourced articles" category! :) If, however, I was wrong, I am more than happy to revert myself for you. Foundation licensing policy
[edit]Hello again. We're still waiting for clarification of Foundation:Resolution:Licensing policy. Could you clarify this for us, or get another board member to? Once again, the question is: Does each project's community get to decide what constitutes reasonable use of symbols like the International Symbol of Access, or does the foundation's licensing policy preclude that?

Interaction
[edit]Greetings! I've just noticed your template and I am sorry to hear of it—my own grandmother also died just a few days ago, while I was out of the country, and a short time before I was to see her again...
I am a bit upset to see this edit of yours. I don't see what is stupid about the phrase you replaced (nor did anyone at FAC) and think it correct either way; a musical analysis, which is what the rest of the article is, is not in itself a biography—though you may include one in a generally biographical article.
And yet even if it had been entirely incorrect I think your words are needlessly insulting, and that there are more considerate ways to correct those who have gotten something wrong. Imagine that you had seen someone write that about your own work: how would you feel about continuing to contribute? Please be more mindful of what you write to others. (This incident in particular came to my notice because it upset someone I consider a friend...) Thanks, Kat Walsh (spill your mind?) 01:44, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind remarks, and I'm sorry to also hear about your grandmother.
- I apologize if my tone upset you, or your friend. I'm not normally a mean person; I'm simply tired (Wikipedia has been getting on my nerves lately). On a different note, though, your friend should not take such comments personally — I did not mention anyone's name in my edit summary, and secondly, not everyone is going to be courteous and friendly, so he/she should learn to deal with it. And yes, I have experienced worse comments from others.
- Lastly, musical analysis, if you are discussing it as a part of a person's life, is a part of his/her biography. According to my literature professor, as well as various other sources, a Biography isn't just the events of someone's life. It is the accurate (non-fictional) presentation of the life history from birth to death of an individual, along with an effort to interpret the life (and work/accomplishmants) so as to offer a unified impression of the subject. In other words, the entire article is a biography, and the musical analysis, is merely a topic/area under the biography. But, again, I apologize if my words upset anyone, and I will try to modify my tone. Orane (talk • cont.) 03:42, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Questions for the Wikipedia Signpost
[edit]Hi! My name is Ral315, and I'm the editor-in-chief of the Wikipedia Signpost, a weekly newspaper on the English Wikipedia. I'm sending out an optional questionnaire that I hope you'll respond to. These questions will be published in next week's issue, and hopefully translated into many languages and copied to the Meta-Wiki prior to the election. (So, if you speak multiple languages, it'd be fantastic, though certainly not required, if you'd be willing to translate your answers into any languages you speak fluently.)
There's no word limit on any of these questions, but I suggest that brevity (maybe about 300-400 words per answer) is best. If at all possible, answers should be submitted by 16:00 UTC on Monday, June 25 (though late responses will also be accepted).
I'm posting these to your talk pages because they don't really fit well on question pages (since many will repeat questions you've already answered). You can reply to me by e-mail, or at my English Wikipedia, English Wikinews or Meta talk pages.
Thanks again for answering these, and good luck in the elections.
Sincerely, Ral315

- Outside of Wikipedia, what do you do for a living?
- What languages do you speak?
- Why do you want to join the Board? What qualities do you feel you can bring to the Board?
- About how much time do you think you'll put into the role?
- Ideally, where do you see the Wikimedia Foundation in 5 years?
- As a board member, how will you ensure a balance between openness and necessary privacy in board matters?
- Recent discussion has centered around the Wikipedia and Wikimedia brands. How do you feel the Wikimedia brands should be used, or changed?
- Wikimedia projects in developing nations are growing in popularity, but still lag far behind the more popular projects. What steps would you suggest to improve the quality, readership, and number of editors on smaller wikis?
- What do you feel should be done to increase participation on non-Wikipedia projects?
- As a board member, what strategies would you consider to raise money for the Foundation?
- What else do you want to say to voters? (This is a good place to answer a question specific to your candidacy that you think should be answered)

For Mindspillage
--Pediaknowledge 01:23, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Michael Anissimov
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Michael Anissimov, by P3net (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Michael Anissimov seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
