Kiddie-wiki block

[edit]

Thanks for calling me on that block. I wouldn't have done it if not for that IP's rather long history of rather strange edits. I'll be a bit more careful when he/she edits again now that the block's expired. Given the history, it's a sure bet. Have a nice weekend! - Lucky 6.9 00:04, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

You say you're an agnostic, but an atheist. Do you mean that you don't know if there is a god. Or you just don't believe in a god at all.68.47.26.123 02:21, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA!

[edit]

My dear Mindspillage, I simply wanted to drop by, now that my RfA is closed to give you a big THANK YOU! for your kind support. Your beautiful words towards me and my work, and your trust, gave me strength and cheered me up a lot; I really felt encouraged by them. The fact that you actually felt as breaking your own normal practices for me, flatters and honors me. You'll always have a friend here. Hugs! Shauri Yes babe? 21:18, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking procedures

[edit]

Wow, thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes a gentle touch. I have sometimes found it frustrating in the past when I'm doing just fine cleaning up after a newbie, I've gently pointed out that the edits aren't productive but haven't yet given a real warning, and another admin decides to save me the trouble and block the newbie for vandalism. Ah well. moink 02:03, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Watch out

[edit]

When changing the pictures to the main page, please be mindful to protect the new picture. Otherwise, it's an invitation for a vandal to put a big penis on the main page. →Raul654 03:35, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I was asking around for a meeting place for people interested in music related stuff, and was pointed in your direction... so here I am. Do you know if there is a project, or portal, or anything else where people with an interest in music meet? At Swedish Wikipedia we have both. Here at enwiki I feel a bit at a loss... after all this time. / Habj 18:57, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My main interest is Nordic traditional music/folk music, in a wide sense of the word, musical instruments of various kinds and some jazz. Hmm... at svwiki we have a musicp ortal that is very ugly, where people list articles they write and that they feel needs work on. It is a natural meeting point for all of us who write in the field, and has kind of replaced the music project. Since the music portal here already is a pretty one mainly for readers not for editors, I guess a notice board would be better. I'll start checking the music project here, though. Thanks! / Habj 00:18, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The spillage of your mind at RfC

[edit]

Hey kat in the hat. I just noticed your mind spillage at Snowspinner's RfC. I just wanted to tell you that I am often struck by the fact that you always seem to say things which need saying, and with which I agree, and in this case I get to "endorse". Underneath that hat of yours there seems to be a head which is screwed on straight. Paul August 20:56, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It is good to now know that I can say anything I want and Fil will second it. I will now go off and prepare some juicy remarks for some other editors I know. By the way, I keep singing the title of this section to the tune of '"The Shadow of Your Smile". Which reminds me Kat's smile does seem a bit Mona Lisa like. — Paul August 16:38, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

...and Filiocht discovers the dangers of making imprecise statements in the presence of mathematicians! As for the smile, well, a girl's got to have a few mysteries about her, doesn't she? (Or at least appear to.) Mindspillage (spill yours?) 23:59, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Smile!

[edit]

Sup sup Mindspillage? Again, deep thanks for your lovely words. You gave me my smile of the day! As for the stuff on my hair, it's a mixture of eggs, flour, mustard and ketchup. My dear, loving friends saw fit to "award me" the day I became a dentist... Actually we all had a good laugh :) YAlthough he had barely interacted, I can see by the comments at you Talk page that you are well known, esteemed and loved, and that speaks of a truly nice person. As long as people like you are around, I'm sure I'll have a looooong life at WP. Have a great day! Shauri smile! 21:34, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Mindspillage: I wanted to thank you very much for supporting me on RfA, and I am truly honoured that you placed your trust in me to use administrator privileges well. I shall do my utmost to be fair, calm, and careful as an administrator, and to always do the very best I can to assist the community. [edit]

I have no objections to my block being removed. I'm not connected with Wb's RFC against Redwolf24. The reason I gave him a week was that he's been a disruptive editor many times before and has had longer blocks for it before, and I want him to get the message that there are quite a number of admins who have reached their limit of tolerance for his behavour. I think this message has been delivered, despite the block being lifted, although I'm not sure if he'll take it onboard.-gadfium 07:41, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

pardon me but the only longer blaock I had before was the one from Red Wolf 22 and that is the whole raison for the Comment Request. Hello, Mindspillage. Congrats on your recent appointment to the ArbCom! The Committee has just added another excellent member. Anyways, in case you haven't noticed, I'm writing a special series on the upcoming 2005 ArbCom elections for The Wikipedia Signpost. In the October 17 issue (next Monday), we will be profiling the current ArbCom members. Your appointment and Kelly Martin's appoinment caught me off guard, I have to admit: I had already given all the current ArbCom members some time to answer some of my questions. In addition, I understand that you've just been appointed and haven't had much time to form an insider's opinion of the ArbCom. Nevertheless, I hope you are willing to tell us how you feel about the ArbCom. I've tried my best to give you the same questions as I gave the other Arbitrators, but I've modified some of them slightly. Thus, I hope you don't mind answering a few questions. Many thanks!

1. Do you plan to run for re-election this year? Why or why not?
2. How do you feel about being appointed to serve on the ArbCom?
3. Right now, what do you think are the strengths of the ArbCom?
4. Weaknesses?
5. If you could change anything, what would you change? Why?
6. If you could say one thing to the current ArbCom candidates, what would you say, and why?
7. Do you think your job will be easy? Hard? Explain.
8. Do you feel that the ArbCom is appreciated by the community? If not, how do you think that could be changed?
9. What do you think will be the most frustrating thing about being on the ArbCom? Enjoyable?
10. Any other thoughts regarding your appoinment?

I hope you didn't mind me bombarding with you with questions; by no means feel obligated to answer all (or any) of them. Thanks for serving Wikipedia, and for taking your time to help a Signpost reporter! Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 14:03, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Mindspillage. I wonder if you could tell me how you created that music file with 4 violas? I am interested in creating a certain Wikipedia:WikiProject GFDL Music on Wikipedia, and was wondering if you would be interested in helping out. Nothing as been set in stone, but there seems to be some interest in this (see the bottom of my talk page). Perhaps we can try and put together Eine Kleine Nachtmusik for Wikipedia? --HappyCamper 00:33, 14 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mindspillage, I hate to rush you, especially with the short notice I gave you, but I'd really appreciate it if you were planning to answer any of those questions that you gave them to me as soon as possible, preferably by tomorrow. The Signpost article has to be turned in to our editor by 8pm Sunday (our time), and does require time to write, so I'd greatly appreciate it if you gave me your thoughts soon. Of course, I understand that you are busy; however, it would be greatly appreciated if you could answer some of those questions for The Signpost. Many thanks; I would be forever indebted to you :-).Congrats once again! Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 00:46, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

AfD on St. Joseph's Secondary School

[edit]

Hey, I have a few thousands articles with ghost links from changed templates that I am null editing to fix. However, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/St. Joseph's Secondary School contains a hardlink to Category:British railway stations in the discussion, do you think it would be a problem if I changed the link to the new category name Category:Railway stations in the United Kingdom, since it basically is the same category referenced in the format of the discussion? I would normally just delete the category and leave the redlink on the archived AfD, but I have the issue of all of these other articles that need to be null edited, and it would take forever by hand, so there is no way for me to tell my bot to ignore the AfD page. Thanks. «»Who?¿?meta 06:57, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, thank you for unblocking him. I thought I was doing it the proper way, believing that he had violated the three revert rule. I now realize my dumb mistake. Blocked User

[edit]

Hi you blocked User talk:Pazuzu413 on the 18th Sept. for uploading images without source. I spent ages tagging their images (many which have now been deleted) and posted messages on their user page which they deleted. I now think that that account was a sock puppet of User talk:The Belgain as they have the same behaviour and both interest in French subjects. Also User talk:The Belgain updated the copyright tag (incorrectly) of Image:Scottevil.jpg which was uploaded by User talk:Pazuzu413, and when I removed an unsourced image on the Daniel Day-Lewis page uploaded by Pazuzu it was almost immediately replaced with another unsourced image by The Belgain. I have listed all their unsourced images on Belgains talk page, is there a easy way to mark these all these as no source as I can't be bothered to do it after last time. Arniep 17:49, 24 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I think it is pretty sure these people are the same as they both stopped contributing on the 26th (or likely have another account they switched to). They continued to upload fair use violations or badly tagged images after 24th-26th (Special:Contributions/The_Belgain, Special:Contributions/Pazuzu413 so a ban would be appreciated, I am going to try and ifd or csd their images. Thanks Arniep 00:00, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

[edit]

Greetings! I hope you’re well. I would like to thank you for declining my request for arbitration and accept ArbComm’s decision unequivocally. Your decision, after all, demonstrates the validity – or not – of both my and Chris Bennett’s positions, while supporting neither, and the importance in Wp that users can diametrically differ yet still continue to grow Wikipedia. What was mildly irksome was how Arbs Fred Bauder and Kelly Martin characterised their decisions (particularly before CB submitted his statement), not the decisions themselves: as neutral third-party arbitrators, there is an expectation to not be diminutive and offer more indifferent or no commentary, as you and The Epopt have done.

As I’ve stated, I believe my decision to RfArb was and is correct but was not taken lightly: I opted for a “nuclear” option as I believe CBs behaviour required it, was escalatory, and would not change with other modes of resolution; I am familiar with them and garnering positive results. I am a paragon of neither virtue nor linguistics, and am not faultless. As I hope my long contribution history demonstrates, however, I’m not a “bully”, “racist”, or unilateral in nature (as CB has characterised me), having constructively worked with others to help enhance this ingenious project of community.

I will disengage from CB until the Big Crunch (if this event occurs, given current theory) and hereafter exercise more caution when discussing fallacious user decisions in the first place.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you again for your consideration; take care!

Yours sincerely,

E Pluribus Anthony 04:14, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your message

[edit]

Thank you for your message. I'm sorry, but having been held up to ridicule puclicly, I won't be staying. I've never ever experienced anything like it. And it's all so personal, too. I don't work that hard for nothing to then have shit thrown at me from every angle. So Wikipedia will lose me, and I'm so angry about it that I'm more likely to bag it long and hard on the net from the outside. That would be to return a fraction of the vindictiveness I've endured over the last four days.

In particular, I've lost confidence in the FA procedure: I was struck by the slackness of the procedure, which is why I've laboured to improve the guidelines and the way in which they're implemented. The fact that my execution is based on my objection to the promotion of a seriously substandard article is just more salt in the wound. Why would I stay after that?

The pity is that had Redwolf not (kindly) nominated me, I'd still be here, beavering away to make WP a better thing, probably in the long term. Now, the opposite will happen. I'm extremely upset and bitter about it.
