Richard Dawkins - time to apply for FA?
[edit]You're quite right that we should not just use ":" for a block quote. I've now used the block quote format because my understanding (which may be wrong) is that this is preferred - and to be honest, I just personally hate the look of the cquote format. However, I'm not going to fight if you insist on the latter. That's not what this note is about. :)
I've played with the format slightly this morning, but I don't feel all that strongly about it - just testing if the pics could be moved to better positions. Move them back if you disagree with what I did. More importantly, I also did a light copyedit of the whole thing yesterday - all of which I see you retained other than the block quote issue, so thanks for that. I agree with your removal of one short para, overnight my time, though I wouldn't mind if someone restored it with a source.
Okay... here's what this is all about. My thinking in doing that copyedit was just to get rid of a range of tiny issues that I saw, prior to it going to an application for Featured Article status. I can't claim any credit for this article, but I've been following it (as a huge admirer of Dawkins). In my opinion, it is now ready to be tested in the FA process. Congratulations for all your great work on it! You might want to check with others on the talk page, but I believe the time has come to give it a shot. Metamagician3000 23:39, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- In response to your answer on my talk page, I wrote there:
- It's some considerable time since I read those books. I'll see if there's anything I can contribute, but that part of the article didn't seem too thin to me. Meanwhile, I support your views on the Wedge Strategy talk page, though it's not an issue worth us going to war about. Metamagician3000 22:13, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- And now see my new comment on the article's talk page. See what you think. Metamagician3000 00:11, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comment on my talkpage. Metamagician3000 05:14, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
What do you think, now? This looks very close to me. Maybe we could try another PR, or go straight to FA. I think the article is now very strong - even more so than back in mid-December. Metamagician3000 04:59, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Responded to you on my talk page. My only current problem with the article is one missing citation. I'll try to find this myself, though it's to a relatively obscure journal so I don't know if I'll succeed. Metamagician3000 12:04, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
Manual of Style
[edit]In general, the Signpost doesn't follow the MoS; in this case, I think the normal-sized text is better than blockquote. Ral315 (talk) 01:46, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Paulins Kill Featured Article Candidacy
[edit]I thank you for your comments and suggestions on how to improve the Paulins Kill article in order to make it worthy of being named a Featured Article.
So far, I think all the issues have been addressed with the sole exception of the listy Flora and fauna section. Now there are two ideas on how to tackle that, and there are possibly others. If you could weigh in on what the preferrable method to tackle this in the next day or two, I'll be able to fix it before Christmas. Also, in addition, if you could take a second look at the article and its candidacy and examine whether the edits made in response to the FAC page comments address your concerns adequeately, I'd be much obliged. —ExplorerCDT 01:58, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Evolutionary psychology forum
[edit]I thought that you might be interested to know that there is an evolutionary psychology forum over at the Psychology Wiki. It was set up a little more than a month ago but still hasn't been used yet. I'll inform other Wikipedians who I think may be interested, as well. EPM 21:49, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Paulins Kill FAC
[edit]You commented on that featured article candidacy for the article Paulins Kill 4 weeks ago. It is still a candidate. Your concerns have been addressed, will you please read through the article and offer your support? —ExplorerCDT 20:47, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
- Even if you can't support (I acknowledge and applaud your principles on this one), could you add a little note as to whether you think your concerns have been adequately addressed or not. —ExplorerCDT 21:48, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you very much.—ExplorerCDT 22:48, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
lol
[edit]Oh no Mikker! That's my crap article! I know I should have aborted it but I couldn't get a ride across state lines! But think about what it did; now the South Park lovers haven't actually complained on Tawk Dawk for almost a month. My precious little abomination was born for a reason. — coelacan talk — 03:38, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Paulins Kill now a Featured Article
[edit]As of a few moments ago, Paulins Kill was promoted to Featured Article status. I just wanted to thank you for your contributions to and suggestions for improving the article over these past few months and that I appreciate your help in bringing this article to notice as a Featured Article. Once again, thank you, and keep up the good work. —ExplorerCDT 22:50, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Mikker! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. Spam
[edit]That instance might be useful, but links to that site were added to about 20 other articles at the same time by an anonymous user, if I recall correctly. Ral315 (talk) 21:50, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
Please stop adding inappropriate links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming and will be removed. Thanks. Shadowbot 03:05, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Darwin
[edit]Hi, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately my best excuse for being an admin is a reluctance to use the tools carelessly, and Wikipedia:Semi-protection policy is pretty clear that we avoid using it if possible: the page is well watched and vandalism's mostly reverted pretty quickly, though I've had to sort out the odd sneaky case. If you want to add it to Wikipedia:Requests for page protection you may well find an admin less cautious than myself :) .. dave souza, talk 22:44, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I see that you removed the Sociobiology category from the EP page, personally i think Sociobiology, as the widely (and rightly) discredited precursor to EP, should be on the 'see also' section, what do you think? Orgone 16:20, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Wiki for Evolution and Human Behavior?
[edit]Hi Mikker. I was wondering...what do you think of the idea of creating a wiki for evolution and human behavior. I'm thinking along the lines of a wiki that would focus on things like evolutionary psychology, human behavioral ecology, dual inheritance theory, etc. Something that would detail all of the theories, hypotheses, models, researchers, programs of study, institutes, etc. in this area. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page. Have a good one! EPM 20:20, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Mikker. Thanks for your response. I initiated a discussion here at a proposal forum on the issue. A WikiProject is a good idea. But I was thinking about a project that could potentially be far more detailed than would be allowed for Wikipedia. Again, thanks for your response. : ) EPM 11:54, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
social and religious controversies
[edit]Dawkins has lead a new movement of atheism that uses evolution as justification, and i think its important to note that not only religious groups have motivations in the spread of evolution. especially since gould and dawkins are the most well known, and considering how the god delusion is a best seller. Grammer in Charles Darwin
[edit]Sorry! I went back a little as there's currently an odd reference in the lead, and I hoped it would disappear. Adam Cuerden talk 19:14, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- Umm. Don't know if that still needs fixed, but I've copyedited the lead, hope it's ok. By the way, :I've trimmed the summary for Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests#Charles Darwin (April 19), but it seems to be clashing with the well supported date for The Simpsons. Any other ideas for dates? ... dave souza, talk 11:08, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I've removed the prod template you applied to The Hungry Man, as it's a previous survivor of an AfD debate, and tyhus not eligible for prod as per WP:PROD. Feel free to put it up for another AfD, I probrably won't contest it but it can't be done via prod. --RedHillian 04:43, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Wikimania 2007
[edit]Hi Mikker
Wikimania 2007, which is being held in Taipei, Taiwan on August 3-5, is offering opportunities for travel scholarships to Wikimania for active users of Wikimedia projects from the continent of Africa. Although the original scholarship deadline has passed, please, if you are interested, you may still apply at http://wm07schols.wikimedia.org/apply.php. Sincerely yours, Cary Bass 21:13, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
Humes Racism
[edit]I think reading David Hume is great fun. I Agree with your idea that wiki quotes is the place for quotations. I do however insist that a small section on his racists attitudes should be included. I think it can he handled discretely and I think that perhaps you should be the one to add it. Replaceable fair use Image:Leda Cosmides.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Leda Cosmides.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Carl (CBM · talk) 14:25, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Merry Christmas
[edit]Isa9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isa9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Luke1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
Luke1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
Luke1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
Luke1:33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Luke1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
Luke1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.223.137.79 (talk) 13:53, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for doing the work to create the Steve Novella article. I hadn't done anything on it lately, and I'm glad you could use what work I had done. In the interests of keeping this within the rules regarding canvassing, I am sending this to everyone involved with that original debate, regardless of if they voted keep or delete, or if they appear to be active or inactive. Call for Wikipedians in Residence in Africa
[edit]Hello,
I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [marilyn.doualabelldoualart.org] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [islahfafricacentre.net] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.
If you are not interested in applying, I would be very grateful if you could spread this call far and wide among your networks to ensure that both projects get excellent candidates. Here is the link for the information page: http://www.wikiafrica.net/two-wikipedians-in-residence-for-africa/

The article Jerome H. Barkow has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Dr vulpes (💬 • 📝) 19:23, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
