Articles deletion

Dear Mike Peel,

I apologize for the inconvenience, but have no other way than appealing for administrators’ help recover a deleted article.

I published a film article entitled Drits (Derivas), a film by Portuguese director Ricardo Costa. It is the second film from an autobiographic trilogy, Faraways. The article was kept untouched by several months. To my surprise, it was recently eliminated and redirected to the director’s page with no discussion. I undid the redirection, but saw the article was proposed to deletion. Reason: independent, verifiable, secondary resources. I argued that the article couldn’t have but primary sources (the producer’s ones) as it is an upcoming film, like many others listed at upcoming films. A film that has not yet been premiered or distributed may not be commented. Besides, none of the films so listed has ever been deleted or even contested.

At last, in discussion, user User:reddogsix proposed that the article should be renamed to Drifts (film) or similar, and at the same time put at the disambiguation page of Dritf this reference «Drifs, unreleased film by Ricardo Costa (filmmaker). I created a new page for the same article entitled Drifts (Portuguese film). As the semantic root “drift” seemed to be the problem, I replaced the article name to Derivas (Drifts) and published it once more with some improvements. As a result, the article was fast deleted and I blocked for three days.

In the meantime, a new article about the trilogy was published: Faraways, which was proposed to fast deletion as well by the same user, User:reddogsix.

Although unreleased, although having no reliable secondary sources, Drifts is unquestionably an outstanding film for its uniqueness and characteristics: autobiography, comedy, docufiction, metafiction in one. I guess that “outstanding” may be a synonym for “notable” in such cases and that articles like this shouldn’t be deleted without previous cared analyses: important information may be lost.

This sequence of interventions is clearly a personal attack by User:reddogsix, supported by two or three user friend. It has no other explanation. It contributes in nothing to improve articles quality. Mists article, which I created on 10 September 2010, is the latest example. The article structure was unreasonably modified, loosing clarity and useful content.

Hi Tertulius. I would encourage you to read Wikipedia:Verifiability in order to understand why your articles are not suitable for Wikipedia unless they reference independent sources for the information contained in the articles. If the topic doesn't have independent sources yet, then the best approach is to wait until they exist before recreating the articles (which, if the film is as outstanding as you say, shouldn't be too long coming). Astrid

Astrid seems to have had quite an interesting history. IMO number 5027792 should help you find sources. Also carried the name Wuta at one time. Bit busy with a major rail accident atm, but {{infobox ship begin}} will need adding and filling in. Plenty of images on Commons to use in the infobox. Mike, I've been forced offline by a dead motherboard. The computer I've got access to now won't handle PDF files. If you follow the Plimsoll Ship Data link on my main account, and type in "WUTA" or "Astrid" on the search engine there, you will find a wealth of detail about the ship. I'm sorry to hear about your computer problems. I've taken a look at the Plimsoll ship data, but I'm currently not sure how to decipher the records sufficiently to add the info to the article. Is there a guide available to explain the shorthand that has been used in these records? It also seems that the 1918 vs 1924 build year issue is particularly relevant here - there's a number of sources that are saying the former, but Lloyds seem to be saying the latter. I'm not sure which of these is correct; whether both are correct somehow; or if there are two different ships here... Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 16:03, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

That's a really impressive expansion - thank you! It's great to see so much more about the history of the ship! How did you find the old Times references? I wasn't sure whether the convention here was to use 'she' or 'it' for ships, so went for the neutral version as a result, but I have no objections to the feminine references. Thanks. Joan of Arc illustrations

Hi, I've been working on Frank DuMond. I checked Commons, and found a bunch of illustrations uploaded by you. I went through all of them, adding them to a DuMond category. I was just about to add one to the article when I noticed something odd. The images, such as File:Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc, 1896, Figure 18.jpg, list DuMond as Author and also in the Permission section. However, they have "1896" in both the file name and in the "date" field of the Information template, while the Description says "The 1906 edition includes original drawings by Frank DuMond." So, I'm wondering if the illustrations are by DuMond, or if they're from an earlier edition with pictures by someone else. Thanks in advance for helping to clear this up. I found an 1896 edition which specifically says that its 12 illustrations are by "F. V. Du Mond". Those 12 are included in the ones on Commons; I'm not convinced that the other 24 illustrations (and the whole djvu file) on Commons are actually from an 1896 edition, but all I was really concerned about was whether they were by DuMond. Hello,

I noticed that you are involved with the physics articles on Wikipedia, and I was wondering if you could help me out. Right now, I'm working to bring the article AdS/CFT correspondence to FA status. So far, people have had many good suggestions and many positive things to say about the article, but I'm having trouble getting people to support or oppose the nomination.

I was wondering if you'd be willing to take a look at it and tell us your thoughts at this page. Please note that you do not have to be an expert on the subject.
