Disambiguation link notification for January 27
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Aethiopia, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Upper Nile. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Leila Abukar
Hi. Rather curious - how does this page not fall under WP:1EVENT? All of the sources cited are concerned with her candidature for Yeerongpilly (except, possibly, this one, which still cites the candidature at the end). Frickeg (talk) 10:46, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi. Besides her pioneering candidature, Abukar also won a major national prize for her work, the Centenary Medal, prior to running for office (please see WP:ANYBIO). Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 20:48, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
- The Centenary Medal does not confer automatic notability per ANYBIO. It was awarded to 15,000 people in 2001 (with a couple after that), including all centenarians automatically (not that Abukar is that, of course). A very great number of these people were non-notable - worthy folks, no doubt, but people of only local fame (check out how many of the recipients received it for "services to local government"). Given that general consensus is that even an AM is not enough for automatic notability, the CM certainly isn't. As a heads-up: if there isn't anything else, I'll probably nominate this for AfD. Frickeg (talk) 23:38, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
- The Centenary Medal is one of three specifically Australian commemorative awards. That makes it a well-known and significant award or honor. It was originally presented to individuals who made a contribution to Australian society or government. It is now only open to centenarians, so it is by definition limited [1] [2]. Commemorative medals on Wikipedia are usually not considered to warrant a category unless they are awarded for merit, such as the Centenary Medal [3]. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 02:22, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi. I've listed our discussions at Talk:Somalis in the United Kingdom at Wikipedia:Third opinion, because I think we could do with outside input. I hope that's OK. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:29, 2 February 2015 (UTC

Navy and Air Force
Are they current recruiting people for the Navy and Air Force? It seems that the navy was still "active" in 2009.[4] AcidSnow (talk) 01:33, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Khat
Bunch of idiots. How can you foolishly spend 100 million on this plant? Are people trying to make it illegal? Hopefully they ban this disgusting plant. It would be a good economic hit for Kenya. It would also be better for Somali society overall. AcidSnow (talk) 00:06, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
- It's an old custom. It began with clerics, as well as in the Harar area and Southern Arabia. They would use it to stay awake for longer to read scripture. It later spread outside of the liturgical community. Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 00:29, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

Point in right direction
How you doing? My time is very tight and I am having less time to invest in Wikipedia and the problem is things need so much attention. Anyway, have a look at this comment that an admin made Go away, I want to take 4 minutes out of today to report it and put it on record. It is a trend with this person and their politics, and I cannot go into too much because then it will blow back on me and I will be accused of Vio WP:AGF. but I know the quality of my contributions and if someone thinks they can chase me off a page (of my ancestors) b/c my comments hit a spot then No Sir. I think I touched a nerve (as I often do) with the rubbish Revisionist Work they doing with yet another Black icon. So point me in the right direction if you can.--Inayity (talk) 12:12, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
- No prob, Useer:Inayity. I'll have a look. Cheers, Middayexpress (talk) 16:10, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
- It can get cloudy, my issue is WEIGHT, why put a quote in the lead? on a bio of a man known for so much more than "rejecting NOI and racism". It is like summarizing Bill Cosby as drugging women. (and yes that discussion is going on right now). At the expense of all the things Malcolm X is know for here we are talking about how he was an idiot and a drone. Strange Spike Lee did not capture that in the film nor did Alex Haley.--Inayity (talk) 18:53, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
- I understand; left a reply there. Cheers, Middayexpress (talk) 19:25, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Death toll
Are we sure that 500,000 died in the Civil War? Does it include those that died in the conflict, starvation, etc? Also is this figure up to date? I sincerely hope that the actual figure is far lower than this. AcidSnow (talk)
- Please see here [6]. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 20:27, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
Lede
How should we condense the ledes of the Mogadishu and Somalia articles? It gives a large amount on current events and AMISOM instead of historical events. P.S, slow down on your archiving. I can barely keep up lol. AcidSnow (talk)
- I literally just archived my page. The ledes are fine. What perhaps needs work on the Mogadishu page is the Kharijite and Mogadishu Sultanate stuff. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 20:36, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
