Please comment on DYK prep area issue
Hi. As an active participant in DYK discussion, if you have a minute, can you drop by Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Number of Olympic hooks per day? and offer an opinion on how to address this? I'd rather get it dealt with sooner rather than later as I feel like the sheer volume will require a discussion as all people involved in building prep areas will need to be aware of whatever decision is reached. Thanks. --LauraHale (talk) 21:30, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi there MENTOZ, AL from Portugal here,
just had a look at the player article's talkpage, and all i can say is that you are 200% correct, my bad. So, i think he should have the RUSSIAN FOOTBALLERS category inserted but, out of respect for your work, i'll leave it to your judgement.
Keep up the great work, happy week - --AL (talk) 17:47, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
- I'll leave the article without the Category:Russian footballers, as he was never really Russian. in your examples (Catanha and Liédson) it was Brazilians who moved to Europe after growing up. Afterall, Demidov moved to Norway at the age of 3, and lived most of his life there, so he was "always" Norwegian, the two Brazilians were Brazilian before they changed nationality. Mentoz86 (talk) 20:03, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
- Indeed i see i was mistaken. Cheers! --AL (talk) 22:57, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

template:movenotice and milti-moves
{{movenotice}} is depreciated and you do not need to add it to multi-move articles because the bot does it automatically see for example see talk:List of European Cup and UEFA Champions League winners#Move discussion in progress -- PBS (talk) 18:13, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
- You are talking to me like I'm in 10 year old who did something wrong - I just did what was written on WP:RM, that "someone" removed the text about the move-notice after I started the RM isn't my fault is it? I want as many participants in the requested move as possible, not only those who have the 13 pages on the watchlist and see that the talk-page changes, so I'm re-adding those movenotices. WP:FPL - player notability
Hi, I wondered if you were planning to take forward your suggested way of coming up with an improved way of determining footballer notability, as there did seem to be broad support for the principle, albeit it can be very difficult to get agreement on the detail. I'm not sure if you're aware of the last time changes were discussed at a sub-page, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Notability of footballers. Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 10:13, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yes I am planning to take it forward when I have the time, which I hope will be within the next three weeks. And no, I wasn't aware of the previous discussion, thanks for letting me know. I'll read it through. Cheers, Mentoz86 (talk) 11:20, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for the information! So, on RSSSF.no there is an error? Because Mohn is in the starting line, according to the site. --Roby Fabulous (talk) 11:06, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
- No, it's not an error - Fram Larvik didn't play in the final (even though the final was played in Larvik) Odd met Frigg in that final, and Mohn played at Frigg's team. The reason I found out, is because I expanded Mohn's article today - you might want to check it out. Mentoz86 (talk) 11:09, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

I am nearing the completion of my work on the Club Notability Tables. Your views on the work to date would be appreciated - in particular any advice on the removal of any obvious gremlins. I will be creating a Miscellaneous section in the tables where Kosovo, North Cyprus etc can be considered. I also propose to move non-FIFA members such as Niue to this section. There may be issues that you do not wish to raise at the moment and I respect that you may hold back some comments to the formal consultation. Promotion of Marcus A. Smith
With regards to these two edits ([1] & [2]), could your explain your reasoning for this promotion? I realize as the article's primary contributor I am biased, but by most objective standards an article with 45K characters of readable prose sourced to good quality academic sources combined with a professional quality portrait is considered a strong candidate for a lead slot. Additionally, rule N8 at WP:DYKNN says, "since only one picture can be featured per update, try to leave the good picture hooks behind for another update if you possibly can." As BlueMoonset had place a tick mark on nomination less than 24 hours prior to your action, the prep set you worked on was the first possible time the nomination could be considered for promotion. A check of Template talk:Did you know shows there were a variety of other approved hooks available at the time of your action. What was the rush to promote this hook? Finally, the hook has a strong geographical association (Arizona). What was the logic in choosing to place this hook in a set that will run, by Arizona time, in the middle of the night? --Allen3 talk 14:35, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I can :) When I choose pictures when building sets, I choose the best pictures not the best articles. (I might start to do otherwise, but I hasn't really thought of it that way) On average, when building a prep-area, I usually have three hooks with pictures and can obviously only choose one of them. In this case, the lead spot was already taken and there were five empty spots, and my reasoning for promoting the hooks I promoted, was to select a variety of hooks. When I selected hooks this time, I left behind three pictures (again, I usually judge the picture, not the article) that I considered better then yours. In all sets there should be about 50% US-related hooks, that makes it hard to not have a US-related hook hit the main-page during the night, though I might try to get an eastern-hook the next time I build a set that will hit the main-page at 08:00 server-time. But even though you might be a little biased in this case, I appreciate the feedback. Cheers, Mentoz86 (talk) 15:09, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Use of information from other language wikipedia articles?
Another editor has recently attacked me for this as well as other edits related to year of birth in certain articles. He has also accused me of creating lots of articles on unnotable people, even though most of the articles I have created in the last month of so that have been put up for deletion survived the initial attempts at deletion. Also most articles I have created over the last few months have been on people who are or were members of state legislatures, and this meets the notability requirements. The editor seems to like to go on massive attacks on just about everything I do and I find it quite frustrating. I am not sure what I should do about it.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:42, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Norwegian stubs
Works in progress that I was actually about to come and ask for help with. They all meet NFOOTBALL - some by some distance - so assumptions that I would have !voted 'delete' in an AfD had I not been the creator are quite wrong. GiantSnowman 09:40, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- I've !voted 'delete' on FPL/international players with one appearance on numerous occasions - but that is because sources were unavailable and had been for a number of years. The objective of NFOOTBALL is to give breathing space i.e. it is assumed that a player in a FPL will meet have received enough coverage to meet GNG, and time should be allowed for that. Lost time
Hi there MENTOZ, AL "here",
good intentions here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:41.238.10.161), but don't waste anymore of your time with this person. Amongst other things, has the habit of inserting stubs in articles which are not by a mile (ex. Pascal Cygan, Carlos Diogo), or completely screwing up boxes with the favorite move being changing player position (Miguel Ángel Riau).
Regards, keep it up - --AL (talk) 12:28, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
- In Diogo, he also "made love" to the player position, now he's a CENTRAL DEFENDER! Of course this is 100% vandalism! --AL (talk) 12:29, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Robin Eriksson DYK
Hello. Please can you fix the nomination so that it credits Mattias321 (talk · contribs) as creator and me just as expander. thanks, Struway2 (talk) 19:37, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
- It is correct as it is now. It's your work alone that made the article is eligible for DYK, not Mattias321, so only you should be credited. If anyone makes significant improvements to the article before it hits the main-page, they can be credited aswell. The nomination-template also says "created/expanded by Struway2", so it's not a big deal. Recently, an article created by me, Edvard Skagestad, was featured in the DYK, but that was because of the work of Roghue (talk · contribs), so only he got the credit from it. --Mentoz86 (talk) 19:55, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm out of touch, I admit it :-) Back in the day, before I gave up bothering with DYK because it was ~80% a copyvio-trivia farm for "articles" that were non-notable stubs in all but name, you used to have to fill in creator and expander. Now apparently you don't. Which is perhaps a pity, because, taking Robin Eriksson as an example, if Mattias321 hadn't created it, and someone hadn't AfD'd it, I wouldn't have felt obliged to expand it: so without Mattias321's work, it definitely wouldn't have been eligible for DYK. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:14, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
- You have a point, but then you should credit ReformArsenal who nominated the article for deletion aswell :) I've heard a lot of people talking negatively about DYK, but for me it's just a "carrot on a stick" while improving articles about Norwegian football, as most of those articles are stubs with two sentances and eligible for DYK after a little improvement. I also believe it improves the quality of the articles I write, both because I know someone will review my work so that I have to do my best and because in most cases the article gets the small copyedit which my bad English needs :) --Mentoz86 (talk) 20:39, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks
for patiently reviewing those edits. In the past that sock's edits have been awful and I long ago lost the ability to review them individually. I especially appreciate your edit summaries. JohnInDC (talk) 16:57, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
- No worries. I've been cleaning a lot after another sock, and the best thing is to simply revert everything even though some might be constructive, and let other editors decide if the edit were constructive or not. It took me some time to figure out why you reverted the six-week-old edit in my watchlist without providing a reason though :P Mentoz86 (talk) 22:18, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, sorry about that too. If I could figure out a way to include a custom summary in a rollback, I'd do that! JohnInDC (talk) 15:08, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
