Tetrahedral truss and space frame
[edit]Is it always true that every spaceframe is a tetrahedral truss? I see your point that it's pretty much the only way to build a "true" spaceframe, as most "spaceframe"s are somewhat similar in shape but put bending forces into the struts. Thus they're no longer a "pure" spaceframe.
I don't think that it's exclusively true though. For one counterexample, the Buckminster Fuller geodesic sphere (the unit cell becomes unusually large in relation to the strut length.
For another, some car chassis designs. Although these are rarely anything close to true spaceframes, some are pretty close and they often have an irregularity to their layout that, while they're still using much the same "repeated tetrahedral unit cell" as the simplest true spaceframes do, they don't have the same number of struts at each vertex. isotropicstructures.com
[edit]Could I suggest that you don't overdo the links to isotropicstructures.com. (I almost reverted your additions as spam, and I see that some have recently been reverted.) Are you able to cite independent research to reference the strength claims? Dbfirs 11:35, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to Wikipedia. However, please know that editors do not own articles and should respect the work of their fellow contributors on Lorimerlite. If you create or edit an article, know that others are free to change its content. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.
