His_Warrior

[edit]

I looked up another thing on the WP band which AGAIN supports my argument. It says: Please note that the failure to meet any of these criteria does not mean an article must be deleted; His warrior (talk) 22:21, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But it is usually deleted. Can you show multiple reliable sources or any significant airtime? --mboverload@ 22:23, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at tthe changes on the mudboy page. are those citations kosher? Just mean should they be more in a sort of footnote format rather than right in the text- I only say it because its sort of messes with the flow of the text. also seemed to have lost some sources in the bibliography. curious why?

Thanks, learning...also is did I write this in the right spot or should I have added onto the bottom some how? oh well...Fm4tb (talk) 02:15, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, here is ok. I removed the sources that only had a passing mention of mudboy, they can't really be used as references. As for the references they should be in the text. However, the way I did it isn't the prettiest since I'm still re-learning =) --mboverload@ 02:53, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Scotthutcheon re: Darrell Vickers, Andrew Nicholls

[edit]

No problem. Us writers are used to getting little to no recognition. I'm starting to think we all must have a touch of the masochist. I don't blame you for deleting writers who use the wiki for promotion or who have very few credits. But these guys have literally hundreds. Even more important they are going to put out a revised "tell-all" book about television writing and the industry (the first glimpse of the reality). For a sneak peak maybe (cough) torrent for the ebook (original edition) "Valuable Lessons" or "How I Made and Lost 7 Million Writing for over 100 TV shows and series." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scotthutcheon (talkcontribs) 19:49, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrolling

[edit]

Hello. I noticed today that you were doing newpages patrolling but are not marking some of the pages you visit as patrolled. Though this is not mandatory in any way, and should not be done for all newpages, where appropriate it keeps your fellow patrollers from wasting time reviewing the same page multiple times. In any event, keep up the good work! Thanks. NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 02:32, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think you de-bowdlerised come instances of this instance - at least where it relates to UK chart information. The official song title used by Everyhit.com, polyhex.com, The Official UK Charts Company, the CD cover and the Guiness Book of Hit Singles all show it with the asterisks. I presume this could be true for many other European countries (Ireland comes to mind). Is there an easy way for you to revert these witht he software you used? Mythbusters citation

[edit]

Mboverload please read the rest of the article and the abundant evidence from the links given before reverting. Citation in the introduction is not necessary but can be put in if necessary. I have just come off the ' phone from Beyond Television and it is quite clear where it is produced, see their website. The pilots were made to try to sell to Discovery because that is the biggest single market and it was pitched to this but if you add the rest of the world it is probably not the majority now. Ex nihil (talk) 07:39, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please keep the discussion to the talk page here. No, I don't work for Beyond. Actually the main reason for the inclusion was because I felt the need to reinforce th eorigins after your last revert. I think it's pretty clear what the origin of the program is, please don't revert it again without a discussion. Ex nihil (talk) 08:17, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I put the source of production before the filming location because it seemed the most logical progression, no other reason, just treads better. Ex nihil (talk) 08:23, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Follow-up on reference desk question

[edit]

Several weeks ago, you answered a question about an attempt of mine at rescuing a crashed hard disk. The hard disk was a SATA disk, which was connected to a PCI SATA card, on a PC with a motherboard that supported IDE only. The defective disk mysteriously became mountable in ubuntu when I connected a third hard disk to the system. I promised to come back with some diagnostics, to understand what was going on. The symptoms were as follows:

  • In the power-on self-test, the SATA disk was detected.
  • Scanning the disk with dd_rescue showed that only 36 sectors were unreadable.
  • I connected a third IDE disk to the system (as slave, to the same cable as the boot disk) and suddenly, the SATA disk was mountable from ubuntu.
  • When I disconnected the IDE disk, the SATA disk was no longer mountable from ubuntu. The error message was the one shown in the post, with "$MFTMirr does not match $MFT" probably being the cause of the problem.
  • From windows xp, the disk was shown with an icon and a drive letter in the "My computer" folder, but it was unreadable.
  • I repeated this several times, and it was reproducible: the SATA disk was mountable when the second IDE-disk was connected, not mountable without the second IDE-disk.
  • I then booted windows xp with all three disks connected. Now, windows xp was able to access the SATA disk with no problems.
  • After I had successfully read the SATA disk from windows xp, the previously defective disk became mountable and readable from both ubuntu and xp, both with and without the IDE disk connected.

I don't really understand this. The error message indicates that there was a discrepancy between the Master File Table and its mirror copy. In the presence of a discrepancy, I would have thought that windows xp would have been smart enough to recover if one of the two copies were correct, but it appears that this was not the case (??). Could the presence of the IDE disk somehow make both xp and linux use a different strategy at reading a defective disk? Doesn't sound likely to me, maybe something weird was going on at the hardware level.

Anyway, thanks again for your help. --NorwegianBlue talk 11:18, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I appreciate the barnstar and your sense of humour, but can't accept a Defender of the Wiki barnstar in good faith. Speedy deletion

[edit]

Regarding the page King-Lincoln-Bronzeville, which you tagged for speedy deletion with the reason "an article about a real person that does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject", I wanted you to know that I have removed the speedy deletion tag. This page does not qualify for speedy deletion because it is not an article about a real person, it is an article about a place. Please be more careful with automated deletion tagging. If you still want the page to be deleted, please consider tagging it with a speedy deletion template which does apply, redirecting it to another page, or using the WP:AFD process. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 12:22, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The reason the article was created was to promote the neighborhood organization, which is linked on the bottom. This organization has no notability, thus I nomed it for speedy under groups. --mboverload@ 03:01, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tarantella logo.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 06:03, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merry Christmas!

A tag has been placed on User:Mboverload/template/frown requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia, because it appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion. If you can indicate how it is different from the previously posted material, place the template {{hangon}} underneath the other template on the article and put a note on the page's discussion page saying why this article should stay. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please use deletion review instead of continuing to recreate the page. Thank you. -- IRP 14:42, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Supermanultimateflight coas.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Supermanultimateflight coas.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:13, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
