Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Abgaal, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 22:38, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The recent edit you made to Salad Ali Jelle constitutes vandalism, and has been reverted. Please do not continue to vandalize pages; use the sandbox for testing. Thanks. Cst17 (talk) 23:30, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add unsourced or original content, as you did to Shabeellaha Dhexe. Doing so violates Wikipedia's verifiability policy. If you continue to do so, your edits will be considered vandalism and you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 03:36, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits, such as the one you made to Mogadishu. If you vandalize Wikipedia again, you will be blocked from editing. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 01:03, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Nuur hassan hussain in 2006.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

Abgaal

[edit]

The source you used is just a copy of Wikipedia and can't be used. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 00:30, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please consider creating actual articles about notable people before adding them to lists of such, as you did on the page Abgaal. You indicated that there is an article about the subject on the Somali Wikipedia. Please consider translating that article into English, rather than adding a red link to a list of prominent people. Thank you. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 13:45, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the information you added concerning Mudulood, could you provide some context for your additions? The way you presented it seems as though the subject is under dispute, but there's nothing else in the article to suggest this. Also, I'm not sure that the source you cited presents the same information (i.e. a list) in the way you've described it (i.e. a hierarchy). Thanks. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:55, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Once again: Please consider creating actual articles about notable people before adding a red link to lists of such, as you did on the page Abgaal. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 22:14, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please remember to mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Abgaal, as minor if (and only if) they genuinely are minor edits (see Help:Minor edit). Marking a major change as a minor one is considered poor etiquette. The rule of thumb is that only an edit that consists solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearranging of text without modifying content should be flagged as a 'minor edit.' Thank you. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 22:16, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Gyrofrog i am somali from the abgaal clan,a subclan of the Mudulood family and i would like to expand the article Abgaal and create a new article called Mudulood. any help will be appreciated. thanks --Abgaaloow (talk) 13:31, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I received your message on my talk page. Regarding verifiability and sources, Wikipedia is built on these concepts so we would need something in the way of attribution. I noticed that you had started an article about Sheikh Ali Dhere and this is better than simply leaving a red link in the list of prominent people, thank you! (We have seen these lists grow indiscriminately long with nothing but red links.) Thanks again, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 14:11, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Is "Sheikh" part of Ali Dhere's name or is it an honorific? If it's the latter (and not his given name), then the standard would be to have this article under "Ali Dhere" rather than "Sheikh Ali Dhere". (Also posted to Talk:Sheikh Ali Dhere.) Thanks, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 14:19, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bashir Raghe Shiiraar

[edit]

A reminder: Please use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made. Also, I've noticed that you've been adding your signature to some of your article contributions, such as the edit you made to Bashir Raghe Shiiraar. This is a simple mistake to make and is easy to correct. For future reference, the need to associate edits with users is taken care of by an article's edit history. Therefore, you should use your signature only when contributing to talk pages, the Village Pump, or other such discussion pages. For a better understanding of what distinguishes articles from these type of pages, please see What is an article?. Thanks again, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 14:34, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Abukar umar adani

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Abukar umar adani, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

the article does not contain enough context

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Tohd8BohaithuGh1 (talk) 15:06, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Imam Mohamud Imam Cumar, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Tohd8BohaithuGh1 (talk) 15:15, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Geedi Abtow

[edit]

Hi, are you talking about the article Xasan Geedi Abtow on the Somali Wikipedia? It doesn't look like there's much there, only a couple of sentences. It doesn't seem like there is much to translate, so I'm sure anything you can add (keeping verfiabilty etc. in mind) would help. Thanks, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 19:26, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to AfricaProject

[edit]

Hi, Maxwell somali, and welcome to WikiProject
Africa
!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles relevant to Africa. Here are some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve Africa-related articles, so if people ask for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, which you are welcome to participate.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign Africa topics.
  • You may also be interested in joining one of the descendant projects related to a specific African country.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

Again, welcome! We hope you enjoy working on this project.

Notability of Sheekh Ahmed Gabyow

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Sheekh Ahmed Gabyow requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. De728631 (talk) 20:38, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. For instructions, please read Wikipedia:Notability (people) and Wikipedia:Verifiability#Sources. Thank you. De728631 (talk) 12:57, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bonaya Godana

[edit]

The Bonaya Godana article makes no mention that this person was Somali, let alone Hawiye. I've removed the name from the list in question. In the future, feel free to make these corrections yourself when (as in this case) there is no substantiating text or reference. Thank you. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 02:01, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Somali Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi Abgaaloow,

My administrator rights extend only to English Wikipedia, not Somali Wikipedia. I suggest you ask one of the Somali Wikipedia administrators: list (there are only two of them). Thanks, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 19:54, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I am not sure what else to suggest. My administrator privileges only extend to English Wikipedia (and in any case, they do not allow me to make someone else an admin). Note that bureaucrats carry many more privileges than administrators, you might start over asking simply for admin rights. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 12:09, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Also note that on English Wikipedia, to be considered as an administrator, a user is generally expected to show a substantial number of edits across a number of different topics. Most candidates have thousands of edits and/or about a year of editing history, showing participation throughout Wikipedia. I am not sure what criteria Somali Wikipedia uses, but I imagine they would have some sort of vetting process in place. (Read WP:RFA to see how it works on English Wikipedia.) Thanks, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 12:23, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Please Help

[edit]

If the information in question lacks attribution, then you can simply remove it. Alternately, you can put a {{Fact}} or {{Disputed}} tag at the end of a sentence. In either case, be sure and state your reason in the Edit Summary. You can also leave a note on the article's talk page. Hope this helps, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 02:05, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for keeping this article current. I have helped with a BBC source quote, I hope you do not mind. Also I have added a reference template on the discussion page which I hope you will find useful.

You added a "Legacy" section to this article. After correcting the formatting and copyediting the text, I looked at the source and found that it was a direct lift from the NY Times obit. You cannot take copyrighted material from other sources and directly insert it into Wikipedia articles. Instead, use the information in the article and write it in your own words.

Please do not reinsert the same material in the same form again. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 17:44, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

thanks,i am new to wikipedia, but can you tell me why some one keeps reverting my work to that article? said barre was a controversial man and a dictator according to the majority of the people he ruled.
I believe your edits are being removed because they are not neutrally expressed. That's what "POV" means in the associated edit summaries, that your writing is expressing a "point of view". Wikipedia strives for a "neutral point of view" (NPOV).

You might want to discuss the information you want to add on the article's talk page, where other editors might be able to give you help on how to express it in a way that would be acceptable. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 17:54, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at WP:NPOV which describes what Wikipedia strives for. Also, although it isn't an "official" policy page, WP:POV has some interesting thoughts about points of view. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 19:38, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

June 2009

[edit]

Please do not add content without citing reliable sources, as you did to Sharif Ahmed. Before making potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 23:04, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Somalia Peer Review

[edit]

Hi there, I've asked for a peer review on the Somalia article in hopes of getting the ball rolling for improving it. I saw you are on the WikiProject Somalia page and thought you might be interested in participating? Thanks a lot, TastyCakes (talk) 16:39, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
