Template:GoBoardGame

[edit]

Boxes like that usually don't work too well when there's an infobox or image near the space as it would mess up some text on resolutions. I'm all for having something like this, but the concern I had was that it could conflict with the things I've stated above. I'd also like to note when I did remove them, they had been mixed in with the table of contents, and I wasn't sure how it'd be fixed.

What I was hoping to suggest for this would be to make it into a navigational box that would go on the bottom. If you're not to sure what I mean, see Template:Japanese go titles. It seems fine right now, as it doesn't conflict with the table of contents or anything else.

I apologize as I had no intention of removing such a thing. CanbekEsen 18:39, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

protection template

[edit]

You have a protection template on your user page. If you would like your user page to be semiprotected, I have no objection to doing it on your behalf. If not, it would better to remove the tag, since it adds your page to administrative categories of protected pages. CMummert · talk 19:28, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Cosnahang. Just to say thanks for all that co-ordinates work. I am feeling a little shell shocked from Doops and someone doing something constructive is much more like it. Rosser 10:15, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

JRE(ast)

[edit]

I never saw JRE templates, but I think that JRE/JR East is too complicated an amalgamation. I chose JR East since it would ease confusion as it's intended to have s-rail for all JR subsidiaries. I'd say that we keep the ones that we have now and use JR East for future lines (but that's me being biased) as JR Central ones have been created and it's better to be conforming on Wikipedia. Geoking66talk —Preceding comment was added at 23:26, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about not answering, but I guess that the issue is now settled. Thanks for bringing it up, I was actually worried that something like this was being implemented but that I wouldn't be able to find it. Geoking66talk 12:03, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Train station names

[edit]

Please do not change the names of articles, like you did for Fukushima Station (Fukushima). Those names are the result of naming conventions by the Japan train project. As for the rationale that the S-line template requires a name ending in Station, that is obviously not the case. See the first example in Template_talk:S-line (Making it Work), where Chicago is linked to Union Station (Chicago). I suggest that if you want to add the S-line template to Japanese train station articles, then you should figure out how to use the template correctly, and not to break the current naming conventions established by the project. Neier (talk) 01:47, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another solution might be to create redirects in the form you think the template needs, for the time being. That is essentially what has happened with Fukushima; albeit in a roundabout manner. Neier (talk) 07:23, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like I may have overwrote your fix, just as you were fixing it; but I swear I didn't see any edit conflict messages. The {{JR East stations}} was the piece of the puzzle I couldn't find this morning. Anyway, it is all put back the way it was, with the exception of a few extra lines in the stations template which won't hurt anything. Neier (talk) 12:29, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Wikimedia UK 2.0 Voting is open :-)

[edit]

A warm hello to all those signed up as guarantor members of the soon-to-be-rebooted UK chapter! Voting is now open over at meta - there's tons of information online over there, and the mailing list has been very active too. Discussion, comment (and even the inevitable technical gremlins!) are most welcome at the meta pages, otherwise please do send in your vote/s, and tell a friend about the chapter too :-) Privatemusings (talk) 22:30, 20 September 2008 (UTC)I'm not actually involved in the election workings, and am just dropping these notes in to help try and spread the word :-) I welcome any or all comment too, but 'election related' stuff really is better suited to the meta pages :-)[reply]

Wikimedia UK v2.0

[edit]

Hello! Thanks for showing an interest in Wikimedia UK v2.0. Formation of the company is currently underway under the official name "Wiki UK Limited", and we are hoping to start accepting membership in the near future. We have been drawing up a set of membership guidelines, determining what membership levels we'll have (we plan on starting off with just standard Membership, formerly known as Guarantor Membership, with supporting membership / friends scheme coming later), who can apply for membership (everyone), what information we'll collect on the application form, why applications may be rejected, and data retention. Your input on all of this would be appreciated. We're especially after the community's thoughts on what the membership fee should be. Please leave a message on the talk page with your thoughts.

Also, we're currently setting up a monthly newsletter to keep everyone informed about the to-be-Chapter's progress. If you would like to receive this newsletter, please put your username down on this page.

Thanks again. Mike Peel (talk) 19:52, 8 November 2008 (UTC) (Membership Secretary, Wikimedia UK [Proposed])[reply]

Wiki UK Ltd Membership applications now invited!

[edit]

Hello,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Wiki UK Limited is now inviting membership applications! You can download the application form in PDF format from meta:Image:Wiki_UK_Ltd_membership_application_form.pdf

Information is given on the form about membership fees (£12/year standard, £6 for concessions); these need to be paid by cheque initially, although we hope to accept other forms of payment in the future. Applications should be submitted to me at the address given on the form. If you have any queries about the application process, please let me know.

We will formally start accepting members once we have a bank account, as we cannot process membership fees until that time. We will be submitting our application for a bank account in the very near future, and we hope to have this set up by the end of December at the latest.

Thank you for your support so far; I look forward to receiving your membership application.

This means you. --Tagishsimon (talk) 11:58, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on John Cosnahan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ... discospinster talk 04:05, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The page that the text came from ([3]) said "copyright reserved 1st January 2005" and that's all we have to go by. There was nothing on the page that indicated that the text was any older than that, except for the bit that said "The 60% of the information is by Cannon-Stenning MA written in 1941", which would take it out of U.S. copyright—but it wasn't clear which parts were written at that time. When I put the deletion tag on it I don't know when it was going to be deleted or if you'd get the notification in time, but the can always be recreated. I'm sorry that it got deleted so quickly but Wikipedia is very strict about not having any material on the site that is under copyright and not publicly licenced. In the future, to use such material in an article, you'd have to get permission from the copyright holders (see WP:PERMISSIONS). ... discospinster talk 17:55, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Alexander S. Foxhall

[edit]

The article Alexander S. Foxhall has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable. Lacks coverage in independent reliable sources. Books lack reviews.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. duffbeerforme (talk) 07:15, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
