News
---North Dakota Portal---
Wikipedia now has a new portal devoted exclusively to the state of North Dakota. Check out Portal:North Dakota.

WPND member NDCompuGeek has constructed the initial framework for the portal and it should now be easy to update the portal on a month-by-month basis. The portal will serve as a kind of "front door" for people using Wikipedia to learn more about North Dakota. It is a great starting point for branching out into the many aspects of the state.

Each month a different article, picture, city, and biography will be showcased along with current news and happenings from around the state. The July version of the portal showcases the Mandan tribe, Governor John Hoeven, and the capital city of Bismarck.

Visit the portal's talk page to share your opinions and ideas regarding the portal.

Hey, thanks for pointing the merge thing out with the duplicate articles. I didn't even take a second glance when I made the disambiguation for the article I created - thanks again for catching it. Weatherman90 03:34, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced material

[edit]

Do not re-add unsourced material without a source, SqueakBox 21:05, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds nice but contradicts our policies and I am not willing to see people labelled as rape victims here for even 1 minute without a source. We are in the real world and we must all start behaving more responsibly in these delicate issues. if it were my sister/mother/daughter I would be appalled especially with a wrong label, SqueakBox 22:27, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I went ahead and responded on the Grand Forks talk page before you sent me the comment. Congrats again! Okiefromoklatalk 23:01, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OPEN Magazine in Fargo

[edit]

I'm writing to learn why the people of Fargo can't let the world know that it now has a lifestyle magazine that is rivaling lifestyle magazines in some the largest cities in the US and has distribution all over the country and in Canada. We should be proud that a North Dakota city is making such an impact on the global stage and let people know how they can learn more. People look to Wikipedia for information, why not share it openly.

Either high or top would work. I put top importance because it's known for its fertile soil and agriculture industry.--milk the cows (Talk) 22:15, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Matt,

I was recently hired by Minot State University as an Enrollment Services Rep. One of my first assignments is to update and expand our internet presence starting with Wikipedia. I was wondering why you reversed our updated material? If there are any certain steps or procedures I need to follow please let me know.

Thanks Jason T.

News
---Grand Forks now a Featured Article---
Grand Forks, North Dakota was recently designated as a Featured Article. This means that the article has gone through a nomination process in which it was reviewed and its quality was assessed. The fact that this article made it through the process shows that it is a high quality, well-written, well-sourced article. Currently, there are only a little over 1,500 Featured Articles in the almost two million articles on the English language Wikipedia. That means that only about one in 1,270 articles has been given this designation.

The Grand Forks article is a great example to follow when working on other city articles, particularly those about North Dakota cities. We would be very well off if our other major city articles were similar to the Grand Forks article. Keep the Grand Forks article bookmarked and refer to its structure and style when you work on similar articles.

---New assessment parameter---
You're likely aware that all WPND articles now include a quality rating located on the article's talk page. Now, a new assessment parameter is being implemented. The importance rating aims to gauge the "importance" of the article's subject as it relates to North Dakota. As an example, Bismarck, North Dakota would not be considered as being very important in relation to the country or the world, but it is of top importance when considering just the state of North Dakota.

The importance of each article is gauged as either Top, High, Mid, or Low. Since "importance" is a rather subjective term, some WPND members are trying to come up with a general set of guidelines. Check out this thread on the WPND talk page to see proposals and to share your own opinions of what is and isn't "important" in the state.

Please help to improve and expand these articles which were recently added to the WPND project:
Cities Area Transit | Dakota Territory Air Museum | Fight On Sioux | Fort Totten State Historic Site | Grand Forks Chiefs | It's For You, North Dakota U | List of people from Grand Forks, North Dakota | Log Cabin Museum, Sheyenne, North Dakota | McKenzie Electric Cooperative | North Dakota Democratic-Independent Party | North Dakota Railroad Commission | North Dakota State Cabinet | Old Main (Minot State University-Bottineau) | Pembina State Museum | Politics of North Dakota | Ruth Meiers Hospitality House | Spirit Lake Casino | Stand Up and Cheer (song) | Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation | UND Alma Mater

Admin nomination

[edit]

Thanks for being so forthcoming, I was seeing if you were over-eager to apply admin tools in a situation where they certainly are not needed. Your reply and reasoning were admirable. When you become an admin, and I am very confident you will, please feel free to contact me if you need any advice. Tim Vickers 01:00, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template

[edit]

Hey,

I was wondering if it was ok to use some of the general formatting from the UND template to create an NDSU template. I do not have enough wikipedia skills to make it look as good as the UND template. It would basically be the formatting, alignment etc.

Please let me know.

Thanks --NDState 20:48, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Thanks for letting me use it. I will try to do it and let you know if I run into any issues. Thanks --NDState 04:50, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I dont mind any UND people ;)
EDIT: I saw it... it looks nice. Thanks --NDState 04:52, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
NDSU lists the color codes somewhere, I will look them up. --NDState 04:54, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nope you saved me some time, thanks. One unrelated question. The lyrics were removed from The Yellow and The Green due to "copyright." First I do not believe that it was ever copyrighted, second its been about 100 years. Do I need to call NDSU and check? --NDState 05:02, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:FightingSiouxLogo.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:FightingSiouxLogo.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Shell babelfish 17:14, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:NDSUseal.jpg

[edit]

I have tagged Image:NDSUseal.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. Shell babelfish 17:15, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I reverted your edit to the stub category; as of right now, it is intended to be filtered into the US road stubs category. If you have any problems with this, go to the US Roads WikiProject, to see if a new consensus can be reached. --Son 07:36, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, do not add a North Dakota stub category. Go to WP:USRD if you have a problem with this. --Son 15:43, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Admin sandbox

[edit]

Hi there; welcome to the cabal. If there is an admin sandbox, I have yet to find it. I suggest that you start in WP:CSD with occasional excursions into the more obvious examples in WP:AIV and WP:UAA, and branch out from there into the more rarified areas as you gain experience. Don't worry - we all make mistakes and get moaned at, but remember that all admin actions are reversible. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 22:59, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oklahoma FA

[edit]

Greetings, remember me? I'm putting an article (Oklahoma) through the FA candidacy process and a reviewer suggested that I request a few new sets of eyes to look through and do some copy-editing. Since I'm familiar with what you've done to Grand Forks I was wondering if you could take a quick look through Oklahoma and smooth out any rough spots I haven't caught. Or, if you would rather review it, that would also be a great help since its been there for a week and only two people have commented on it so far. Either one would be incredibly helpful and I would be very appreciative! Thanks again. Okiefromoklatalk 02:48, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Zip to Zap

[edit]

Thanks for the thanks and thanks for making the settlement dates so easy to add. It seems like you added the founding sentence to most of if not all the articles. Also thanks for rating Zip to Zap. I have nominated it here for DYK. Any additions, subtractions or copy edits will be greatly appreciated. If you live anywhere nearby a pic of Zap would also be great. Quick question

[edit]

I noticed User:Flnclan removed a sockpuppet tag from User:Thehalo1noob's user page, and talk page. Since I'm not intimately familiar with the Sockpuppet issue, I thought I'd ask you to look into why it was removed. As far as I can tell, User:Flnclan is a newly registered user, first edit was on 14th of August. While doing RC patrol, it just made me wonder why this new user would care if another user's pages had sockpuppet tags, so I thought I'd ask the administrator who was involved with the original sock. Thanks! ArielGold 06:27, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I put up a case on WP:SSP about Zim2007 (talk · contribs), Thehalo1noob (talk · contribs), 69.178.194.212 (talk · contribs), and Flnclan (talk · contribs).--milk the cows (Talk) 02:17, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Here's the shortcut to the case: Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Zim2007--milk the cows (Talk) 02:19, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Matthew (and MtC), and thanks for the reply. First, you should know I'm not an administrator. I'm only just starting to familiarize myself with the depths of sockpuppet issues, and I've got a lot of learning to do before I truly feel that I understand the methods that are used to identify them, other than the basic similarities in posting style, writing style, and common article vandalism. I noticed the above issue while doing Recent Changes patrol, and I do tend to not "hit the button" as it were, too quickly, so rather than make assumptions, I brought it to your attention. Just doing a brief look-through, it may be helpful to ask one of the regular admins that deals with socks, such as User:Deskana, s/he is also a bureaucrat, but from what I've seen, is very willing to answer the harder questions, and is very active. S/he is also a checkuser, so has experience with socks, probably a great deal of experience. I'd love to be able to help you, but truly I don't think I can offer any more than that. If I have your permission, I'll be happy to revert removal of sockpuppet tags, indeed if there is a policy regarding the removal of said tags, I'd like to know about it for future reference. I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance, but I do appreciate you updating me! ArielGold 02:20, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The user pages and user talk pages of all the suspects in Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Zim2007 should be protected since the suspects have been vandalizing them by blanking the pages. Thank you, I don't think anyone wants to be on here all night reverting them.--milk the cows (Talk) 23:29, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind, another admin got to it.--milk the cows (Talk) 23:46, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have noticed that Hacker2000's editing patterns are similar to those of the suspected sockpuppets. I warned the user, though I haven't put up a case in Suspected Sockpuppets since this is a relatively new user, and it wouldn't be fair to make assumptions right away.--milk the cows (Talk) 22:19, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

---North Dakota articles on Main Page---
This past month, two new North Dakota-related articles appeared in the Main Page's "Did you know?" section. The articles were Zip to Zap and Climate of North Dakota. Congratulations to the creators of these articles — it's always exciting to see North Dakota articles on Wikipedia's Main Page. A request has also recently been made to make Grand Forks, North Dakota a Featured Article of the day.

---Active members and inactive members---
In an effort to more accurately gauge just how large WPND is, the WPND members list has been split into an active and inactive list. If you have not made an edit to a North Dakota-related page within the last three months, you are moved to the inactive list and do not receive the WPND newsletter. If you disagree with moving members to an inactive list, please share your thoughts at the WPND talk page.

---New administrator---
WPND member MatthewUND (talk · contribs) was recently promoted to Administrator status. That means that he has been granted the use of special tools so he can take care of housekeeping tasks such as blocking disruptive users, protecting pages, deleting pages, and quickly reverting edits to pages. It has been mentioned in the past that WPND was in need of an administrator. With MatthewUND's promotion, that is now a reality. Please contact MatthewUND if you are ever in need of an administrator's help.

NDSU Residence Halls

[edit]

Why shouldn't we have something on the residence life at NDSU? Each hall is unique in its own way, and if there is information on each hall on wikipedia, people who are planning on living in residence halls will be able to get information on the halls via wiki. Isn't that why we wiki in the first place? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Koreywith1k (talkcontribs) 06:23, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reed-Johnson Residence Hall

[edit]

Hello,

I want you to know that I created a section in the NDSU wiki for Residence Life. I believe the placement of this is much better than the last attempt. While I understand where you're coming from with the page about Reed-Johnson, I disagree with you when you say that it's acting as a dictionary instead of an encyclopaedia. I also disagree with you about it being unnecessary to have a page about Reed-Johnson, since the same information can be found on NDSU's website.

Wikipedia is about sharing knowledge. That is what I am doing in creating a page about Reed-Johnson. Helping prospective students is just one of the many uses for a wikipedia page about the residence halls at NDSU. When I was in high school, I know that I would have appreciated a wikipedia site about the different residence halls at NDSU. Plus, reading about this stuff on wikipedia is just plain fun and interesting.

To conclude, I think it's ridiculous to accuse my article of simply being a "dictionary" type of entry. This is a growing page that I believe should remain on Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Koreywith1k (talkcontribs) 06:54, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

KVRR website

[edit]

Alright, fine - how do I leave this as an article that would not be considered vandalism?

Also, I don't believe that some of the things that you have presumably posted on the KVRR page are true. For example, you state that this station has received "newscasts have won local broadcaster awards, and have been competitive in viewership ratings." You, or whoever wrote this, leaves no references or cites. Based on this - what's to stop me from voicing my own views on this station?

You state this station has received awards and accolades - yet leave no source. I report a true situation about this station, and am told that I'm "vandalising" the page.

Something reeks of hypocrisy. I report the truth, get bashed for it. You report information that you don't verify, you get praised from it and appoint yourself "Lord and Commander of KVRR Wikisite" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bigfog (talkcontribs) 13:34, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re. KVRR

[edit]

Thank you for clearing up your involvement with the KVRR article. Yes, you are correct in the idea that one does not read an encyclopedia article for personal views on topics that are researched.

News
---Article deletions---
A series of deletions of North Dakota articles this past month is a good reminder that we need to be careful when creating new articles. Before creating any article, it is a good idea to 1) check out Wikipedia:Notability to see if the subject deserves an article and 2) make sure that worthwhile sources can be found pertaining to the subject and are effectively used to cite the article. Often, instead of simply creating a brand new stub article for a subject, it is a good idea to expand an existing article that in some way can address the subject.

---Peer reviews---
The University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University articles are currently up for peer review. Please take a moment to visit UND's peer review and NDSU's peer review. Read through the articles and then share your opinions of where the articles currently stand and how they might be improved. Peer review is often a step in the process of getting articles to Good Article or Featured Article status. As a WikiProject, we are very much in need of more GA or FA class articles.

Housekeeping
---Mandan demoted---
After a review, the Mandan tribe article is no longer considered Featured Article class. This is a reminder that even after articles have made it all the way to FA class, it is always possible for them to lose that designation. This also means that WPND is down to one FA class article.

New articles
Please help to improve and expand these new North Dakota-related articles:
740th Missile Squadron · 741st Missile Squadron · Bison Illustrated · Carrington High School · KMAV (AM) · Mandak League · NDSU Magazine · Northern Tier Bicycle Route · Phoenix Elementary School · William P. Tuttle

Vandalism

[edit]

There seems to be a lot of vandalism on the North Dakota page of late. Is there something that needs to be done about this? Also, the user: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/165.234.180.41 seems to be doing most of the vandalism and I was wondering if a ban should be put in place or something... 1997 Red River Flood

[edit]

Thanks for correcting that, I read it incorrectly. If I make any more mistakes on the article, please continue to point them out. I'm hopefully going to finish adding all of the information from the book sources by this weekend and then continue with online information. --Nehrams2020 06:00, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, but I moved there from Oklahoma for my first winter in 1997 when my dad transferred to GFAFB. I lived there for five years before he retired and we moved back to CA, where I was born. So our first winter of seeing snow was quite a shock with all of those blizzards and then the huge flood. During the flood, I helped to set up some of the cots for the evacuated residents in the hangers and was able to see Clinton's helicopter when he visited. Based on that first winter and the events that occurred, I have interest in the article and would like to bring it up to GA. Even though I haven't been back to ND since my family left, I'd like to visit again sometime, especially to see how GF has changed. --Nehrams2020 06:19, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:UNDlogo.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:UNDlogo.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 17:54, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Manipulation of WP

[edit]

I read an article in the newspaper about manipulation of Wikipedia a few months ago. A few days ago, I saw a message board about someone banned from WP by a moderator just because he didn't like what was said (even though other message board contributors failed to see anything bad about the edit).

I just came across an article about an American presidential candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton being one of them. The moderator there is bullying others and striking out comments. He claims socks but this is just an excuse for eliminating any discussion. As far as the comments that he objects to, they are nothing radical.

In fact, I just put a suggestion there and I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to eliminate me. If so, you should make the correction to the Prentice Position article. It has a major error. MD12752 04:19, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cryptic? I posted a suggestion to the article. Then it hit me. I should have stayed away from the article because there's some incivility going on in the article. The moderator there has a bad temper and blocks people who write things that he doesn't like on the excuse of that person being a sock. Since the person blocked didn't write anything inflammatory but got blocked and I actually wrote a criticism, then I will probably be blocked by tomorrow. If this happens, you should correct it but if not, I don't need Wikipedia. Let me see if I can get the message board text. If so, I'll post. MD12752 04:46, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here's some quotes:
and gave a perfectly reasonable rationale. However, somebody decided to delete his vote on grounds that the account was created soley for the purpose of voting in the election, even though he had edited several articles. I think the actions by wikipedia moderators were uncalled for.
That's about how it looks to me.
Wikipedia is a wild place. There are areas of wikipedia that are wacky. You just need to know where to look.
This is a business message board.MD12752 04:50, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Prentice Position article that I mentioned has a major error to it. I'll fix it some other day unless something happens like that crazy moderator attacking me.MD12752 04:54, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are writing to the moderator who willy nilly bans people. He will claim he is right and block me. It's not so much a victory that he blocks me as it only shows that he is ruthless. The reason for unblock of Derek is to deny him the excuse that he uses to block anyone that he disagrees with. MD12752 06:42, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is clearly another Dereks1x sock, the third one uncovered this evening. Tvoz |talk 06:48, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You fall back on the same old cry (he's a sock). Where's the disruption? Where is the vandalism? Where is the extremist viewpoint? You are part of the manipulation of articles. At first, I didn't believe it but now I am seeing it with my own eyes. What I've heard about manipulation of Wikipedia is true. MD12752 06:59, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As you well know, banned users are not allowed to use sockpuppets to evade their bans - without regard to whether they are vandalizing or disrupting or being "extremist". Banned is banned. But as you've been told many times, if you would stay away from the editors and the articles that you have caused trouble for, no one would be looking for you and you could edit here productively even though you're banned because no one would know or care. But you seem unable to do that - you just repeatedly return to the same places and people, and behave in a manner that arouses suspicions, and another one of your personas is blocked. There are now over 40 identified socks, and several others suspected. When are you going to stop this and start doing something productive here? Tvoz |talk 07:14, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In other words, you are saying "you can post as long as you stay away from MY articles". That's censorship. As far as saying 40 socks, that's just your scare tactic. Have you ever thought that there may be several people that were unfairly labelled as socks and were banned along with this Derek guy? Banned is banned? It was just some manipulation of Jersyko from what I've heard. He just destroyed evidence so that nobody would see it and agree on his ban. I heard he is a lawyer. If so, then he knowingly committed fraud because he knows the rules of evidence.
Do you know why I'm talking so much? It's because I've heard at the water cooler months of these wild wikipedia stories and found out today that they are true. You are the proof, Tvoz. I was told that aggressive person is Tvok, but I think I heard it wrong and it's Tvoz.
Do you know what was suggested that I do? I was told "just write some neutral commentary about 1 or 2 leading presidential candidates and Tvok or a few others will ban you. I can now say it's true. I've been convinced about how a few can manipulate wikipedia so that they feel powerful. I am a bit surprised that others, like MatthewUND, will sit and let the high tech lynching proceed. MD12752 07:30, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, right. You heard that at your water cooler. You've been banned and you should accept that and stop creating personas to edit in evasion of the ban, anywhere. I was merely pointing out to you that despite what you seem to think, no one is interested in hunting down your alternate personas - so from a practical point of view you could avoid all of this. As for the 40+, you'd know better than I if anyone was unfairly labeled and banned along with this "Derek guy" - I am quite sure that there are more socks, not less. That's it for me, I have nothing more to say here, and won't be responding beyond this - we don't need to muck up Matthew's talk page any further. Sorry, Matthew. Tvoz |talk 07:43, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No need to apologize Tvoz. The only apologizing should come from the user who, by means of cryptic messages, tries to solict random, previously uninvolved administrators to carry out his bidding. "Morris" (MD12752) tells me by email that I am immature...I would tend to call someone who edits under 40 pseudonyms immature. This will also be my last response...shut the door on your way out, Morris. --MatthewUND(talk) 08:22, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Matt: The Williams County Historical Society has received many requests (120) for the History of Wheelock because of your entry. The Wonder of Williams is a compilation of historical stories done by the Society in 1976 and we never renewed the copyright and we do consider it as public domain material. Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MichaelsLogo.gif. ---UND article upgraded---
The University of North Dakota article was recently upgraded to "good article" status. This brings WPND up to two good articles and one featured article. We should work on bringing other North Dakota articles up to a higher status. Look in Category:Top-importance North Dakota articles for articles to work on improving. It would be great to get the main North Dakota article to GA or FA class in the near future. There are also a number of other articles which are close to GA status already...a little work will make them ready for that designation.

---Assessing article importance---
Work continues on assessing the "importance" of all articles that fall under the banner of WPND. Currently, around a third of all articles have been rated for importance.

Please help to improve and expand these new (or newly added to WPND) North Dakota-related articles:

Newsletter delivery question

[edit]

I'm interested in creating a newsletter for Wikiproject College Football, but am wondering how I would distribute it once it's been created. Someone recommended that I should ask you the best strategy for distributing a newsletter. Any ideas? Thanks. JKBrooks85 (talk) 18:38, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:FargoPublicSchoolsLogo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:FargoPublicSchoolsLogo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Thank you. Zedla (talk) 23:21, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The WikiProject North Dakota Newsletter

Issue 7 - December 2007

WPND · WPND talk · WPND article list · WPND article statistics · New ND articles · ND Portal

News
---A new "Good Article"---
WPND now has another new good article: 1997 Red River Flood in the United States. This article was recently split off from the 1997 Red River flood article. Much of the credit for this article's promotion should go to Nehrams2020 (talk · contribs).

---Let's improve our main article---
For a WikiProject whose focus is the state of North Dakota, there is likely no article that should be more important to us than the North Dakota article itself. We should work on improving this article to at the very least good article status and ideally featured article status.

---UND on the Main Page?---
The University of North Dakota article is currently listed as a good article. Given UND's 125th anniversary ([4]), perhaps we should think about improving this article to featured status so it could potentially be the article of the day in February when the event is officially observed.

New articles
Please help to improve and expand these new (or newly added to WPND) North Dakota-related articles:
1997 Red River Flood in the United States · Bakken Formation · Beulah High School · Carrington Public Schools · Dakota Central Telecommunications · Hazen High School (Hazen, North Dakota) · Henry Holt (North Dakota politician) · KEYA · Lisa K. Fair McEvers · North Dakota census statistical areas · North Dakota Century Code · North Dakota wine · Valley City High School · Valley News Live · Williston Basin

The WikiProject North Dakota newsletter is a work in progress so please share your ideas about how the newsletter can be improved. If you no longer wish to receive this newsletter, please add your name to the opt-out list. Those who have not contributed to a North Dakota-related page in the last three months are inactive and will not receive this newsletter.

North Dakota State Treasurers Category

[edit]

I noticed that you are a member of WikiProject North Dakota, and thought you might be interested in the "Categories for Discussion" vote that I initiated with respect to Category:North Dakota State Treasurers. I am proposing that the category should be renamed to Category:State treasurers of North Dakota in order to conform with the standard used in all other similarly-named categories. For examples of what I am talking about, see Category:State treasurers of the United States. --TommyBoy (talk) 18:50, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind, the discussion on the matter has closed. --TommyBoy (talk) 02:00, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
