Reed-Johnson Residence Hall
[edit]A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Reed-Johnson Residence Hall, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. MatthewUND(talk) 00:06, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comments. Actually, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a directory. While a brief mention of residence halls would be appropriate in the NDSU article itself, it is highly unlikely that any of the residence halls are notable enough that they deserve their own article. Everything out there cannot have an article...a subject has to be notable enough before it warrants its own article. As far as prospective students getting information about residents halls on Wikipedia, I'm sure the NDSU website can fulfill that need. Just like Wikipedia is not a directory, Wikipedia is not a guide for helping prospective students choose dorms. It is quite likely that this article will be put up for deletion. When I was new at Wikipedia, I often made articles for things that really weren't notable enough for their own article and the article was subsequently deleted.If you have any further questions, drop me a note. I hope you understand that we simply cannot have articles for everything out there. There have been times that I wished that wasn't the case...but unfortunately it is.--MatthewUND(talk) 06:37, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- You misread "directory" as "dictionary". --MatthewUND(talk) 07:04, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- The article has been nominated for deletion. I encourage you to improve existing NDSU articles before making articles for non-notable structures on campus. There are plenty of existing NDSU articles that need work...it would be great to see you help out. I'm sorry to have to put this up for deletion, but like I said above, we simply can't have articles for everything out there. Do you realize how many articles we would have on here if each and every residence hall in the world or even the country had its own article? We have to draw the line somewhere. I'm sorry if this scares you off, I hope you stick around. It's always nice to see another North Dakotan on here. --MatthewUND(talk) 07:25, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
