What gave me some suggestions many time ago. Thank you. Is now everything ok? 92.217.87.244 (talk) 19:11, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

As the most recent reviewer, Compusolus may be able to answer more articulately - pinging them here for their convenience. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 19:19, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. The sources for the article do not demonstrate the notability of the subject. The article also reads like a resume, hence the 'advertisement' review tag. Compusolus (talk) 23:23, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

I accidentally pressed Shift+Enter instead of just Shift while entering the edit summary, before actually placing the reference. I would have appreciated a wee bit more time to fix the problem, rather than getting an edit-conflict with your lightning-fast revert. XAM2175 (T) 09:56, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, clearly wasn't paying attention to the times on my watchlist! Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 05:36, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

Request on 19:48:06, 15 April 2023 for assistance on AfC submission by Lao-ke

Hi - I'm having trouble getting a new page accepted. It's an outline history of the Institution of Locomotive Engineers. It might be described as a UK-based learned society whose members were professional locomotive engineers, similar in form to the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

My submission has been rejected two or three times on the grounds that it is “not adequately supported by reliable sources”. Yet so far I've added 19 references, 23 external links and over 20 internal links to other Wikipedia pages. I'm therefore left wondering how many more references I need to add before they are considered “adequate”.

The main problem appears to be a table that I have created which lists the names (such as I know) of the Institution’s officers over the 58 years of its existence, and its membership numbers over that time. I've left blanks or added “??” in the cells to indicate where I don’t know the officeholders' names or the membership numbers.

My prime sources of information are two papers written by ex-officeholders, both eminent in their day: one a president of the Institution and the other an editor of the Institution's journal. These papers were published in the Institution's journals in the early 1960s, a few years before its disbanding. Yet, one reviewer (perhaps you?) rejected my submission on the grounds that these sources weren't "independent". This seems unreasonable given that the people best placed to know, and to record, the Institution’s history were those who were involved in running it. It seems to me that any “independent” author who have written about the Institution's history could not possibly have known more about it than a past president and Journal editor. Indeed any independent authors are likely to have relied on these two Journals that I have referenced.

One option would be to delete the table altogether since it seems to be the focus of reviewers' rejections, but this would seem (to me) to diminish the value of the article as it serves as a useful summary of the Institution's history - even though it is incomplete.

I might add that in writing the article, I am (or was) hoping that other contributors will be able to fill in some of the gaps in the story and add further references to it. But this will not be possible if the article is not published.

The Institution of Locomotive Engineers was a well-established and well-recognized organization in its day. There is very little information to be found about it on the Internet, which is why I believe that it deserves to be included in Wikipedia's pages. Lao-ke (talk) 19:48, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

(Talk page watcher) I'm willing to take a look at this at some point in the next few days. If I might make a very quick comment in passing, though – per the comment from 16 February, you still have a lot of references presented in the form of external links. They need to be included inside <ref> </ref> tags to appear in the list of references. XAM2175 (T) 23:20, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
Hi Lao-ke, XAM2175 is right to point out that a lot of the references aren't formatted correctly (they appear as external links instead) - see Help:Referencing_for_beginners.
I'll be honest, if that's done, it could be accepted potentially - although for the table, I would suggest that if there's just "??", then just leave it blank for it to be filled in later, because there is a sense in which it might appear unfinished...!
Hope that helps. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 06:34, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

Could you please complete the AfC acceptance you requested this redirect be deleted for? Thanks. * Pppery * it has begun... 23:49, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

Done, thanks for letting me know. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 04:50, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

Looks good, I'll try and accept it tomorrow if I can/remember, as I'm a little busy this evening! Well done! Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 18:37, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Dropout Bear

Hello Mattdaviesfsic, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Dropout Bear, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: G6: Page to be moved here is a draft that has been repeatedly declined, and appears to be a copyright violation. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 20:04, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Sorry about all that. I had my doubts that an IP wrote that 7,000+-byte draft in one edit without having copied it from somewhere, especially given the older declines they brought over. I found it buried in a different draft that was blanked and overwritten, and I've put it back where it should be now. If there aren't any other problems and the draft is ready to be promoted, let me know and I'll go ahead and do that for you. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 20:15, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
Should be ready to accept, yes. Thanks for letting me know. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 04:45, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
I'm just reviewing the draft now and I am accepting it, just letting you know. Thanks, Wikieditor019 (talk) 18:58, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
Interestingly, Primefac posted a message saying they were reviewing it yesterday evening - only a few hours after your message, Wikieditor019 (although nothing seemed to change afterwards, accept or decline), but I just accepted it this morning anyhow. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 06:06, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
That is because we were waiting for a Redirect page to be deleted. Wikieditor019 (talk) 11:15, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
Correct, though next time if you mark it under review yourself I will be much less confused as to if the draft was still pending :-) Primefac (talk) 13:11, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
Yes of course. Wikieditor019 (talk) 15:11, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

Nissan TD engine

Hi there! I am a little bit confused - I was going to write up an article on the Nissan TD engine but life got in the way and I just hadn't had time. I had left the article in draft space and then it seems that someone else tried to submit it. It was not in any way meant to be submitted yet; I would not try to promote it at this stage as it's mostly a list of specifications. The person who requested it to be moved has an odd edit history, btw. I meant to fiddle with it in my sandbox until it is ready so please don't hold this against me when I do submit. Thanks,  Mr.choppers | ✎  03:22, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

I declined it for the minute (can't remember why, though), so you can very much still work on it. It may be worth putting that editor a message on their talk page, perhaps offering to work together to improve it for acceptance or something? Thanks for your work, and feel free to put a little message here when it might be ready for another review! Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 06:04, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

Please complete the AfC acceptance you requested this redirect be deleted for. Thanks. * Pppery * it has begun... 04:38, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
