Happy new year, in friendship! - Today seems like a good day to say so, after a Bavarian peasants' mass (sorry, on the train home, no recent pics of that - just keep watching), and two DYK, even with a pic I took. I enjoyed meetings with friends in real life, and wish you many of those. - That's what I came to say, and then you give me that black box to swallow. I still say the same, and hope you'll exchange thoughts and music from time to time. How about turning the box to blue, Floq's colour? Anyway; all the best for where you go. It's also the birthday of a friend, - I'm so happy I mentioned his DYK on his 90th birthday when he was still alive. Excellent choices all El_C! I have all of them except the Zatoichi box set and that is just waiting for CC's next flash sale. By coincidence (after working my way through the box sets of Wong Kar-wai and Federico Fellini) I am watching Tarkovsky's seven films and Solyaris is on tap for this weekend. That line from Blue Velvet has been seared into my brain since the first time I saw the film way back when and is one of the all time greats :-) If you've seen Ikiru you might find this essay of interest. I saw Solyaris a year or two ago...maybe it was because of the subtitling, or because I wasn't in the right mindset for it, but I found the plot very opaque. Perhaps that's intentional, but I lean toward movies with storylines I can follow, or at least ultimately puzzle out. :) I want to catch up on my Wes Anderson films, not having seen many of the older ones, but I'll be the first to say he gives amusingly abstract but ultimately disappointing (because abstract) commentary on his films. You aren't necessarily wrong Doniago. Tarkovsky was a different kind of filmmaker. He preferred his films to have a dreamlike quality and that can make them difficult to warm to. He also made films that have to be seen more than once to absorb everything he was trying to say. Problems with ReFill?

Have you seen this proposal at WP:VPT? I've been using ReFill for years and thousands of edits. I am not in a hurry, and always read the results. I don't recall seeing the sorts of problems shown as examples. Luck of the draw, I suspect. You are vastly more experienced and expert in these matters, so perhaps you might wish to comment.

Hi Tribe of Tiger. I just happened to stop by the ol 'pedia today. I looked at that thread and all I can say is Yikes!! I never saw refill operating like that. I stopped working on bare refs last fall so I am way out of date on things. I do hope they can work out the kinks that have appeared. Today is a feast day for which Bach wrote several cantatas including Mit Fried und Freud ich fahr dahin, BWV 125, which was on DYK 10 years ago and TFA 4 years ago. I'm less happy that Georg Christoph Biller had to wait days for a Main page appearance under recent deaths, and then stayed not even for a full day. It would have been so meaningful today, with the man in the cantata saying he can depart in joy and peace. - The February pic was taken in memory last year. - In peace and joy I watch you making little corrections, - that's all we need. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:03, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for all of your posts Gerda Arendt. The pic is gorgeous. Growing up in the mountains has left me with an affection for streams that have a combo of ice and flowing water. I used to hike to Elk Falls at all times of the year and one winter you could see water flowing underneath the ice which is a treasured memory. Thanks so much for all of these GA. They are wonderful. I finally got to see this documentary about Marin Alsop. It is well done and she is extraordinary. Early in her career she was in charge of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Whenever I was in the audience I marveled at the music she created. Bare URL question

I'd just like an opinion: Does Template:Cleanup bare URLs apply to bare urls in an external link section or does it just refer to references? (I can see reasons for either way.) Thank you. RJFJR (talk) 01:53, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello RJFJR. I hope you are well. I can't remember if I ever saw it used in an EL section. IMO it's not really appropriate as the instructions contained in the template are about fixing citations. I also feel that dead links in an EL section are better off removed as they aren't supporting any info used in the article - there are probably exceptions to this and I'm sure other editors will feel differently. Another IMO is that adding links to the internet archive is not a priority in the EL section. Although I have seen a few ELs that were in a cite template I'd say about 99% of the rest use the [URL followed by a short description] format. OTOH placing the bare url tag there probably does little harm. What would be best as a new template specifically for EL section. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 04:37, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
