Green tribology
[edit]Green tribology is a subgroup of Tribology and is related specifically to maintain an ecological balance of any potential environmental and biological impacts of the interactions between surfaces [1]. Green tribology takes care that the friction or wear of material occurs in environmentally friendly manner [2]. Its mission is to develop an advanced engineering components and procedures, to provide new and innovative green concepts, which ensure sustainable engineering impact over the whole engineering-system life cycle. The researchers formulated 12 principles of green tribology [3]:
- the minimization of friction
- the minimization of friction wear
- the reduction or complete elimination of lubrication, including self-lubrication
- natural and
- biodegradable lubrication
- using sustainable chemistry and engineering principles
- biomimetic approaches
- surface texturing
- environmental implications of coatings
- real-time monitoring
- design for degradation
- sustainable energy applications
