Hi there MapleSoy, regarding this draft submitted on 21 August 2020 I have added a significant amount of newspaper and magazine articles featuring the subject. Hopefully this will now fulfil the notability criteria.

Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kerr1000 (talkcontribs) 17:08, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your review of the draft article on Kate Lord Brown. Could I get clarification on "In-line citations are needed for every claim"? (I am technically adept but a very inexperienced worker bee here at Wikipedia.)

For instance, the opening sentence of the draft reads: "Lord Brown grew up in Devon, UK, and studied at St Margaret's, Exeter, before gaining a fine art scholarship to Blundell's." Arguably, there are three claims made in that sentence: that she grew up in Devon; that she studied at St. Margaret's; and that she got the indicated scholarship at Blundell's. Using the same strict interpretation (mine, I mean), that sentence and the rest of the article will be littered with in-line cites. This doesn't to me seem consistent with many Wikipedia biographies' styles. (I understand various editors' standards might differ from one another's.)

Again, not challenging, just wanting to confirm. For example, what sort of external linkable source could possibly provide evidence that she studied at St. Margaret's?

GREATLY appreciate your patience. Thanks for any further help, even if means just pointing me to a source to help me resolve these ambiguities!

FLJerseyBoy (talk) 16:30, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi FLJerseyBoy, thanks for your message. You've asked a good question. The relevant policy is WP:BLP, which describes the high standard that Wikipedia has for biographies of living people. In the example you provided, yes, I actually would provide a source for all three of the claims made in that sentence. The policy linked above says that there should be no original research WP:ORIGINAL, which means that the information does need to be found in reliable, published sources. To answer your second question, the source does not need to be "linkable"; an offline newspaper or book can also be used. And if cannot be found in any published source, it should not be included in the biography (even if you personally know the fact to be true).
To get this draft accepted, I would focus on the author's career achievements. If you can add a citation for the claim that her books have made bestsellers' lists, and add books reviews that can be found in published sources, then she would meet the notability criteria for authors and the draft will be accepted.
Happy to clarify any of this! Thanks for your patience with the AfC process. - MapleSoy (talk) 04:01, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MapleSoy,

Maybe it's obvious but it's my first article with the English Wikipedia and I am kind of confused as what is meant by "does not meet the minimum standard for inline citations". I checked out the link and now I have two competing theories. Do you mean there are too many needless citations (i.e . the sources are not contentious ) or that there not enough of them? I would appreciate your feedback very much. Thank you. --Vasif.khalafov (talk) 07:44, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vasif.khalafov, thanks for reaching out and welcome to English Wikipedia! More references are needed for this draft. All the statements about her career need references in order to be verifiable; you can remove any statements that you cannot find a reference for. Please also include independent, reliable sources that show that the subject has received significant coverage; this is important in order to meet the notability criteria for biographies, found at WP:BIO. For example, it would be helpful to include published reviews of her books. Let me know if you have any further questions! - MapleSoy (talk) 19:02, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much. I've updated the draft accordingly. Please take a look and let me know what you think.Vasif.khalafov (talk) 16:59, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vasif.khalafov, I'm wondering if you can add any independent, published references that show significant coverage of the subject. By this I mean citing newspaper or magazine articles about Gulshan Pashayeva, rather than citing works she has written or author profiles of her on websites that she writes for. This is needed in order to meet then notability criteria for biographies. Let me know if you have any questions about this! - MapleSoy (talk) 18:26, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Okhee Lee: Successful Wiki page

[edit]

Hi MapleSoy, many thanks again for your advice. Your positive feedback made the difference. Take good care.––Mel Lichtenheld (talk) 18:31, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mel Lichtenheld. Thanks for letting me know; the article looks great. As an aside, I read your user page and 'm wondering if Dr. Lee was your client; if that is the case, you should add a conflict of interest box to the talk page for transparency's sake. Instructions on how to do this are at WP:DISCLOSE, but let me know if you need any help with this. Thank you and take care! - MapleSoy (talk) 18:30, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Good advice, again! I would appreciate your help on this. What do you think will be best wording?––Mel Lichtenheld (talk) 18:58, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Mel Lichtenheld, I've gone ahead and added the COI boxes to Talk:Okhee_Lee and your user page. If you are working for a firm/agency or directly for the client, you can add their name in where it says InsertName on the article's talk page. With your user page, you can add other article names to the same box as you create them for future clients. - MapleSoy (talk) 19:13, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi MapleSoy, I appreciate that you took the initiative to add the COI boxes. I will follow your instructions for future work.Mel Lichtenheld (talk) 20:15, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Hey there! Thanks a bunch for reviewing and improving the article I started! I really appreciate it. ^^ ChristianCanCook (talk) 01:41, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ChristianCanCook, my pleasure! I hope you will continue to contribute to Wikipedia! - MapleSoy (talk) 00:58, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Maple Soy,

You recently reviewed my suggested biographical entry for Brian Moeran, an anthropologist, but rejected it on the grounds that details of his life were not properly referenced. This struck me as a bit of a generic response on your part.

I find it difficult to know how to proceed, given that details of this person's life are not available, other than in brief "About the Author" sections in his many books (where we learn, for example, that he was both helicopter pilot in the Royal Navy and television comedian in Japan). The fact that I was able to obtain these details was a result of lengthy interviews with Moeran while he was working at the University of Hong Kong between 2013 and 2018.

Is it, then, acceptable to write something along the lines: [1] with date attached? I am not aware of this form of citation in other Wikipedia biographical entries.

Please help!

Kylenoe

Hi Kylenoe, thanks for your message. You can use the author biographies as references for the article. To meet Wikipedia's notability criteria, we would also need to see references that are independent of the subject (e.g., are there reviews of his books in published sources?). Wikipedia has a policy of only including verifiable information (can be print or online sources), and no original research, so personal interviews can't be accepted, unfortunately. You can read more about this policy at WP:OR. Please let me know if you have any questions about this! - MapleSoy (talk) 16:06, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again

[edit]

Hi Maple Soy,

I hope you receive this message. You mentioned leaving additional references in the Talk Page but I seem to have missed them. May I request for them again?

I am also am working on in-line citations and I am using the same reference throughout the article (which I was informed is acceptable)---should I use "Ibid" in the Author Name and Date or should I list each detail for each citation, varying only at the Kindle Location number (page number)?

Thank you!

Zmdrecidoro (talk) 19:17, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Zmdrecidoro, the talk page of the article is Talk:Kim Loo Sisters. (Had answered the other part of this question at the Teahouse)Thjarkur (talk) 20:13, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Merle Marsicano

[edit]

Many thanks for all the work you did on the article! It's a great learning experience just to see how/what you did. Sadly, I'm unable to identify any photographs of Marsicano in public domain. I DO have one press photo of Nicholas Marsicano, but it appears there is some controversy whether such photos can be added to Wiki commons. Armanddequais (talk) 21:09, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Armanddequais: My pleasure, and thanks for creating the article and introducing me to a fascinating subject today. We may be able to include a non-free image of Marsicano per WP:NFCI; if you can identify one (it cannot be a press agency photo) I can help you add it to the page. By the way, I wonder what you make of the competing birth years that we have on the page right now? - MapleSoy (talk) 21:36, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
MapleSoy: My hunch is that in her own time, Marsicano cited an age much lower - by 17 years! At some point, someone asked her, and she said 1920. And then that reference became referred to in several other publications. The SS Death index, IMHO, is the more authoritative source. Armanddequais (talk) 21:50, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Armanddequais: Good thinking. I've edited out the 1920 date. - MapleSoy (talk) 21:53, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your work on my article! I am not that fluent in English, but I try my best to learn about the English Wikipedia after being fairly active on the German Wikipedia. Can you tell me if the addional sources on my article are enough now? It's not easy for me to find out which source is suitable for here. Thanks and greeting! --Strolch3000 (talk) 07:19, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Strolch3000: Welcome to English Wikipedia! The sources are better and I have accepted the draft. Where possible, it would improve the article to use published, independent sources, like newspaper or magazine articles (rather than television show listings, press releases, etc.). Thanks for your contributions! - MapleSoy (talk) 15:12, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MapleSoy!

Thank you for dropping by my article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ying_Zhang) ! This is a first time for me on Wiki, so the editing process was really new. I saw that you declined my submission due to notability issues in my sources. Is it possible to have some more clarification on that? I went through the Wiki page for academic notability that you mentioned in the comment, but I am still not so sure. Is the person themself not notable or are the sources that I have used as references not notable?

The professor herself is an associate dean (and has been an associate director previously) and is the founder of Erasmus China Business Center (which overlooks relations between the university and Chinese companies and universities). She also holds multiple high positions in other organizations, participates in multiple forums (e.g. Davos 2019), and has received multiple mentions and awards (mentioned in the article).

I'm not trying to challenge your opinion, but I would like to receive your perspective on why the professor (or the sources) is not reliable. As this is my first Wiki page, I'd really like it to be successful since I've put a lot of time and effort into it. I really appreciate your feedback and am looking forward to your response! Thanks for all you do.

Mlngyvu (talk) 10:34, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mlngyvu: Thanks for your message, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope I can clarify some things. When reviewing a draft on an academic, I'm looking to see if any of those criteria at WP:NPROF can be met. The awards currently listed in the draft do not, by my impression, meet criterion #2 for highly prestigious academic awards (these are typically awards given by notable academic and scholarly societies) and #6 refers to positions like president/rector. As she is still relatively early in her career, your best bet may be to show, if possible, that she meets criterion #1, as shown by independent, reliable sources. Let me know if you have any questions about this! - MapleSoy (talk) 14:40, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! You were kind enough to review my John E. Kelly III draft. I was curious if you might be willing to take a look at Draft:Albert Bourla as well. Thanks either way, I don't mind waiting longer knowing there's quite a backlog. Inkian Jason (talk) 15:48, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Yu-Chen Wang Submission declined

[edit]

Dear MapleSoy, unfortunately I still don't understand why there seems not to be significant coverage for Yu-Chen Wang to be suitable for Wikipedia.I was hoping, all the reviews and articles about Yu-Chen Wang, as well as her exhibition in prestigious museum and art spaces would qualify her for a WP article. Looking at your links, I thought it would be ok. Could you help me with more information? I really would like to make this work. Thank you --Sabine Hagmann (talk) 13:04, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
