Toronto Zoo
I am just asking why you are deleting important edits to the Toronto Zoo wiki site? the additions are not for advertising they are to let to reader know about the Toronto Zoo. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.64.51.49 (talk) 00:13, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- Because it's not encyclopedic. It looks like advertising from a holiday agent even if no company is mentioned. -- Mentifisto 00:16, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
There is nothing on that website that shows any advertising material. All it is doing is expanding the readers knowledge. When you add the information (example) to the Eurasian section. It lets the reader no what the zoo is trying to do. Therefore expanding there knowledge about the section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.64.51.49 (talk) 00:25, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- The text you added itself is advertisement-sounding. An encyclopedia doesn't try to convince people that the places are beautiful. -- Mentifisto 00:30, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Newbie wants to say hi
I was directed to this page because a page I tried to set up got deleted (the message was blatant ripoff or something.) What I did was only using the text on our website for a new entry about the organization that the web site was for. I'm new to this so can you tell me what I should do?
Thank you, and God blesses. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Charles doan (talk • contribs) 18:37, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
- It needs to be released under the same license or the public domain: see also WP:DCP. As it was it read like an advertisement anyway (using 'we' etc.) so ideally it's rewritten in a neutral tone. -- Mentifisto 18:45, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Article My Comic Book Creator
I would like to ask why this page was deleted when it was still being updated? I was going to gather more information and references, there was no reason for it to be deleted within five minutes of it being created. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JoyRain (talk • contribs) 20:45, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- Well, if you wanted to work on an article you can always create a subpage in your userspace until it's ready. As it was it didn't have any context and it may well not satisfy notability either. -- Mentifisto 20:51, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- I understand what you're saying, but it was pretty much deleted so quickly that it gave nobody else the chance to contribute to the article, I really don't see how that can be treated as fair considering I wanted other people to also contribute to the article because I myself don't have all the information. To be honest I'm quite new to Wiki so I obvously don't know everything, but I disagree with the deletion because it was unnecessary, the article would have been updated properly, given time. JoyRain (talk) 20:57, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- If you knew that this subject needed to have an article here, though, giving it a context should have been easy. In any case I restored and userfied it. Move it back into mainspace (by deleting 'User:JoyRain/') when you think it's adequate. -- Mentifisto 21:03, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- Alright then, that'll be fine, glad to have this resolved quickly. JoyRain (talk) 21:08, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Question About Deleting
Hi, I guess I'm still fairly new to NPP and all that entails so I'm wondering - a couple of articles I flagged for speedy deletion got deleted (eg Samantha Jenkins), but then reappeared and had to be deleted again, by a different admin. Can deletes be reverted? What am I missing? Dylanfromthenorth (talk) 06:40, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
- Deleted articles can be restored, yes, but in that case the user just recreated the article so it had to be deleted again. -- Mentifisto 06:42, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

What the hell?
Man you really don't have anything else to do but delete pages. Did it bother you or do you just take pleasure in surfing wikipedia and looking for pages to delete? As for Yi Chao's importance, he's important to a small community of 150 people, a high school student, a successful violinist as a student and loves life. Maybe someone should delete your page because you seem to be important only to yourself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yichao2009 (talk • contribs) 01:42, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- No, it simply met WP:CSD#A7... you were the one who didn't say why he requires an article. -- Mentifisto 01:45, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Why?! Because of his significance to a growing international Taiwanese community. Sorry that I didnt include this information in my first edit, or that i didnt create a sub page, but jesus, like literally in one minute while i was gathering information for the article, you just went and deleted it. It seems kind of ridiculous to me that such a useful resource as Wikipedia is controlled by people who dont give others the chance to contribute, as if they consider themselves better or something. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yichao2009 (talk • contribs) 01:52, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- The article needs to meet WP:N. Besides that though, even "his significance to a growing international Taiwanese community" is too vague to establish notability. If you want I can recreate the article in your userspace... and honestly, I'm not trying to 'control' anything. Imagine if many people created articles with "Joe is a treasured person" or such... Wikipedia wouldn't be very useful anymore. -- Mentifisto 01:58, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Ok, well Yi Chao's significance is that he is an aspiring Taiwanese student musician and entertainer. He has already established a small fan base in Taipei and across Taiwanese communities in America. His accomplishments include playing in several European youth orchestras, and various Swiss Singemeinde groups. Would this be good for that WP:N? Hey have you created a page for your mom? Is she a treasured person? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yichao2009 (talk • contribs) 02:06, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- Are you serious or not? The most reliable way to meet WP:N is if third-party sources published accounts of someone or something, so if you provide references to such and state clearly why they're notable then the article is valid. -- Mentifisto 02:11, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Ah thanks anyway brother. My mistake. I'll contact in about a month & see if I have anything notable for you.

Equitable Life of Canada
You just deleted my page, Equitable Life of Canada which follows the same format as Manulife and Sun Life currently housed on Wikipedia. This is my first post so please help me understand why this one justifies deletion while the others have remained?
Thanks,
ID98765 (talk) 19:22, 31 March 2009 (UTC)ID9876
- I deleted it because of WP:CSD#G11 which means it was like an advertisement. Manulife and Sun Life don't have similar prose... "strong emphasis on responsive, personalized service" and claiming that it offers "sound financial protection" is PR talk, not encyclopedic. I also noticed that some of it is brought from its website in which case that's also WP:CSD#G12 - copyright infringement, and even if the website is yours you'd need to release it under the GFDL licence. So ultimately it needs a rewriting. -- Mentifisto 22:23, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Now I get it, thanks. Will work on re-writing and try again in a few weeks. May I ask another question? I want to add our logo to the site and it is getting stripped out even when I tried to explain that it was provided and approved by various people at Equitable Life. Now I am being warned that I could be blocked. Again trying to follow the rules but am confused on what would qualify to allow me to post the logo? Scared to try again and getting blocked going forward. Any advise?
ID9876 (talk) 12:39, 2 April 2009 (UTC)ID9876
- It must be released under the GFDL or equivalent and said so on your website (see also WP:DCP) or try to contact OTRS. -- Mentifisto 00:47, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Sommer Shadoe Deletion?
Mentifisto,
I had created a subpage and was just starting the edit. Sommer was half of a stunt team,Strange Stunts, in the 70/80s that held the world record for ramp to ramp picup truck/dune buggy jumping and driving on two wheels. Recently the Sports Illustrated that had their profile was made available on the Sports Illustrated website. Chuck Strange the driver is also resurfacing on the internet. There seems to be growing interest in their careers. I have up to date information on everything about Sommer. She thought it was time to resurface as well. If world record holders that appeared in numerous magazines, the likes of Truckin, Mini-Truck, Stock Car Racing, Hot VWs, Sports Illustrated and others isn't interesting enough? What about multiple AstroDome Houston TX appearances, one in which Chuck almost died and was featured in Faces of Death 3, notable? Appearances on Mike Douglass, Tom Snyder and "In Search Of" television shows then so be it. I can find a lot of other pages in wiki that aren't nearly as significant or noteworthy.
````
Regards,
Ken —Preceding unsigned comment added by Klloyd01 (talk • contribs) 03:01, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- The article didn't mention all that though. It also said that the biographical bit was brought from somewhere verbatim (by implication) and that's not allowed per WP:CSD#G12 because of copyright reasons so it needs to be rewritten, ideally. By the way I didn't delete the subpage (which is still here), the article in the main article space which didn't claim notability was deleted. -- Mentifisto 03:12, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
Manifesto,
This is my first attempt at wiki. I created the subpage earlier today and didn't like the looks of it. I deleted the content, then the folder. I came back in and started from scratch and was only about 10-15 minutes into adding content and it disappeared between me doing a show preview and going back to editing mode. Maybe the previous deletion has me messed up some how. The klloyd01/Sommer Shadoe I get by clicking on the tree appears empty on my end. The part that you say is verbatim was Sommer's words from the press kit. I was just trying to get it to look like the bio page short of uploading the actual jpg of the bio page.
Regards,
Ken
64.128.16.7 (talk) 03:25, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- I understand now - sorry for the quick deletion. I restored what you started and it's here now (that is your userspace area, just like where your last article User:Klloyd01/Sommer Shadoe was in, which you can still restore if you want by going on the 'history' tab and pressing 'undo' for the first most recent entry so the blanking would be undone). The thing is with copying writing off another resouce is that it's a copyright infringement most likely so it just isn't allowed, even if it doesn't have the same image. It also didn't conform to a manual of style used here and sounded like an advertisement so it needed a rewriting based just on that as well. -- Mentifisto 04:17, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
Mentifesto may I plead with you not to delete future postings of the Metaphysical article? I wrote in "My talk" my reasons for creating the page. Please understand the posting of this article is not simply to promote a band memeber or musician but to extend the topic of Metaphysics through music. Music is unlimited such as Metaphysics. It stops no where and advance through many realms and to be as open and free as possible in expression is our purpose as individuals and artists. Is that not what you seek or stand for in your life and all you do? If I am wrong please give me reason and guide me as to what is accepted in your judgment.
(Metaphysical lives (talk) 15:54, 4 April 2009 (UTC))
- It wasn't deleted because it was promotional, it was deleted because it didn't meet WP:CSD#A7 - you didn't say why and how the musician is notable. -- Mentifisto 16:00, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
In that case what would be suitable references that would leave me exempt from deletion?
(Metaphysical lives (talk) 16:15, 4 April 2009 (UTC))
- Well, check WP:RS - I tried searching for some but there doesn't seem to be any reliable sources (of course since 'metaphysical' has many results I tried 'metaphysical hip hop' which I suppose could still be prone to inaccuracies). Mostly though the article just fails to say why the musician is notable at all, let alone veriable sources. Have you won awards? Have you been featured in third party sources? -- Mentifisto 16:25, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
