Yes, although I don't change it all the time. If I'm only going to be online for a few minutes, I usually don't even bother. Similarly, if I'm online but I'm going offline for a short period of time, I don't change it. Natalie 17:34, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- When I first added the bar, the auto-changing templates didn't exist. Since then, I haven't really found it problematic enough to think that having it done automatically was worthwhile. I'm also frequently online and perhaps reading Wikipedia, but not making edits, which would make the status-update bot mark me as offline. Natalie 17:41, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure. The only one I'm aware of monitors a user's edits and changes the status based on that. But it's entirely possible that there are other auto-update status bots that use different methods. Natalie 17:47, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

My reverting was to the proper article, you have replaced it with the altered "humourous" version that I spent some time replacing. This was done just two minutes after I sorted it. Warnings to spammers
I blocked the spammer that you had just reported to WP:AIV. Thanks for the report. However, just a thought -- I do think that to the extent possible, go through the range of spamming warnings, rather than imposing a single warning. The four-level warnings exist for a reason -- they allow people who genuinely think that their links may be helpful to get a chance to understand that spamming is not helpful and is not permissible. --Nlu (talk) 07:30, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks for your note. I just took the info from the infobox and wrote an intro sentence. User talk:Metropolitan90 says that the team is in the Primera División Peruana, so he would be a pro. The creator created 7 articles that are now deleted for "no context". I think three survived and one more was recreated. I think the info in the info box counts. Others did not. Speedy deletion of HokieKid
A tag has been placed on HokieKid requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. --TheSeer (TalkˑContribs) 12:23, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Regarding "Copyright problems" on User_talk:E.baracke
Goodness, I think you're right. I just did a google search and found that reference. I didn't know what "Tubious.com" was, and after looking at its home page I still don't. But there is still a problem with "Copyright. 2006 Lippincott Williams and Wilkins", so it's as well the article was deleted. I wonder if we should now delete the article from Tubious.com, which seems to be possible for any user? P.S. - I'll ask the admin who speedied it for advice. JohnCD 16:05, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- You're right, I have boldly zapped it from Tubious, I guess there might be trouble if the copyright owner found it there saying it had come from here. JohnCD 16:17, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
The courtesy of a note to an author is desired and appreciated
Recently, in the last hour, you moved a mis-named template now proplerly called -- Template:USA PATRIOT Act small minutes after it was saved, and it gave the appearance to the creator that the work had been deleted, as another admin cam along and deleted the redirect--making the existence of the page not available.
Communicating with the author, who learned of the typo upon saving the template, and was in process of moving the template to the proper name, would have saved more than a little annoyance and wasted effort. -- Yellowdesk (talk) 07:31, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

DB tagging by an admin
Thanks for asking. Primarily, it's because I believe that nearly every article deserves to be looked at by two people; I think I know the rules, but I've been wrong before and deleted things I later regretted. So I tag things and let another admin delete them, or I delete what others have tagged, but very rarely both. (Only in the case of bad attack pages or vulgar nonsense that obviously merits deletion). What you might be asking is, what prompts me to tag articles instead of deleting them? The answer to that is, first I go through the entire list of pages with speedy tags and look at every single one with an eye to deletion. Most of them I delete, some I decline and reverse the speedy tag, and quite often these days I find I just don't know if I agree with the speedy tag or not, so I leave it alone. Anyway, I frequently reach a point where I've examined every single page that's been tagged -- then I go hunting for new pages that I can tag, and let someone else take over. I don't disagree with other admins who instantaneously delete things, BTW, I just am not completely confident and like to give everything another chance. I hope that answers your question. If for some reason I haven't to your satisfaction, let me know. Cheers, Accounting4Taste:talk 00:49, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

My userpage I designed a very long time ago, and I must add, designed by way of stealing the best of what Wikipedia had to offer at the time :) It's simple, does the job, conveys the message etc... Glad you like it. -- Longhair\talk 03:44, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- A very long time ago... Possibly several years. My userpage history would reveal the changes made at the time to bring the userpage where it is today. I'd need to look up specifics later when I've got more free time if you really want the answers of how long the userpage has been in it's current state. Stealing, borrowing, adpating, call it what you will - the beauty of a wiki is that if you see something you like, just edit the page and copy/paste the interesting bits you like for your own use. Feel free to use any code/ideas you need. It's there for the taking. -- Longhair\talk 04:03, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Avispa
Hi, Mentifisto! In my opinion, all it would take to tone down the advertising language for Avispa is to rewrite the second sentence in the lede and find a source for it. Of course, it coud also be greatly expanded - history, market share, etc. You might post a note at WPP:MUSIC and see if anyone there is interested, or WP:SPAIN. Or, if you're feeling like it really just needs to be deleted, try WP:AFD, though I doubt it would pass that. Anyway, hope that helps! Happy Editing :) -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 15:19, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Northern Sky (song)
Hello, Mentifisto. Thanks for keeping an eye out on article quality. I'm dropping you a note to let you know that I have removed the speedy deletion template that you placed on Northern Sky (song). The article does not seem to fit the speedy deletion criterion. WP:CSD#A7 applies to musicians, but not to songs. However, as the article was a stub on a song that did not assert notability, I have redirected it to the album as advised at WP:MUSIC. Please consider other means for addressing ongoing concerns. Please feel free to let me know at my talk page if you'd like to discuss this further. Thanks. :) Moonriddengirl (talk) 03:52, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Giuliani's Law
I removed the speedy deletion tag from Giuliani's law because WP:CSD says that neologisms are not criteria for speedy deletion unless obviously ridiculous; the user reported that the term is in use on the web, so instead I placed a tag for WP:PROD Thanks, Pnswmr (talk) 01:39, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Question
{{helpme}}
Anyone knows how to manipulate the very text "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" above? (For my userpage.) -- Mentifisto 04:09, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- This is what I was using until I totally changed my layout tonight:
<div id="title-override" class="topicon" style="float: left; position: absolute; left: 0; top: 0px; width: 90%; padding-top: 5px; display:none"><div style="background: {{#ifeq:{{PAGENAME}}|{{FULLPAGENAME}}|white|#F8FCFF}}; font-size: 188%; padding-top: 0.5em; padding-bottom: 0.1em; position:relative; left:0.5em; margin-top:-0.2em; color: #000000; font-family: arial, BankGothic Md BT, Tw Cen MT, verdana;"><font size="6" color="#B900B9"><b>'''A'''</font><font size="5">'''LLSTAR'''<font size="6" color="#000000">'''E'''</font><font size="5" color="#000000">'''CHO'''</font></font></font>
- Place it at the very top of your page. Of course, you'll need to change the '''A''' and '''LLSTAR''' and '''E''' and '''CHO''' -- ALLSTARecho 08:06, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- And of course you can change the fonts, font sizes and colors as well as widths, etc. in the code above to fit your layout. -- ALLSTARecho 08:12, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- Actually I was aiming at changing "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" only (not even remove it... just a bit of format) but I might try the above too - do you know if the user title and From Wiki... are the same element? -- Mentifisto 08:16, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- The code above will cover up your name, ie: "User talk: Mentifisto" and the "from WP, the free encyclopedia". It'll lay on top of that as a div layer. -- ALLSTARecho 08:19, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- Is there some formatting missing? When I test it and then preview it (beginning with all the code at first, and then change stuff) all my userpage is changed with big fonts etc. -- Mentifisto 08:54, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'll have another look from my history but I believe that's all of the code. -- ALLSTARecho 08:56, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Roseline
You are using sources derived from mystery buffs (Philip Coppens) and not from historical researchers - the name "Roseline" did not exist before Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code - there is no link between the Meridian and the ray of light and the gnomon in St Sulpice church as described in The Da Vinci CodeWfgh66 (talk) 22:30, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
The ray of light in St Sulpice church
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89glise_Saint-Sulpice%2C_Paris
You can read here that the ray of light associated with the gnomon at the church of St Sulpice has nothing to do with the Paris Meridian, but with determining the time of the equinoxes and hence of Easter - quote: "At noon on the winter solstice (December 21), the ray of light touches the brass line on the obelisk. At noon on the equinoxes (March 21 and September 21), the ray touches an oval plate of copper in the floor near the altar." This is an accurate description. Wfgh66 (talk) 22:40, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Paris Meridians
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roseline
Needs a little more work on it - because there are two Paris Meridians in this subject matter - the old and the new Paris Meridian - I believe it's the old Paris Meridian that passes 200 metres away from the Louis Lawrence tomb at Les Pontils ("Arques").Wfgh66 (talk) 22:50, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Tubalar
So someone vandalizes the page and removes the stub link and then you immediately add a speedy deletion tag? I don't understand? --Stacey Doljack Borsody (talk) 18:12, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- I just discovered the page because of that edit, not because the stub template was removed. And, at least, as it was before Editorofthewiki wrote a lead it was eligible for the CSD tag of little context, I think. It didn't even say what Tubalars were, just a random piece of data. -- Mentifisto 18:15, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Hercules (video game)
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Hercules (video game), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}}
to the top of Hercules (video game). brewcrewer (yada, yada) 00:33, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. As far as I know, everything has to be notable. Why don't you merge/redirect it to a section in that article of the film? Would you like me to do it? Best, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 00:46, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Notability (schools) for huge fights over the notability standard of schools. I agree that it won't fit perfectly into the film article, but we aren't left with much of a choice. A way of minimizing the problem is to redirect it, not to the article itself but to a section within the article. That way if someone enters the game into the Wikipedia search box it will go directly to the section. Do you know how to do that? --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 01:04, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry if I was a bit too paternalistic. At the school debate, those that argue for the lesser notability standards for schools claim that schools should be inherently notable. Nobody claims that video games should be inherently notable. And I would be shocked if you find someone to agree with that proposition. I know absolutly nothing about video games, so I can't tell you about other video games that are based on films.--brewcrewer (yada, yada) 01:22, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- I were to look I would find tons of articles will get deleted at an afd (if not speedied). But that's not how I want to spend my time. So I only bother with those that I come across. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 01:29, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Is every item on Wendy's menu notable enough for it's own article?--brewcrewer (yada, yada) 01:37, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, but on the other hand, food is eaten more often then video games are played (I think). But I was making an entirely differnt point. I was countering your argument that it should be notable because the company that makes it is notable. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 01:46, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sure that there's other unnotable video-game articles out there. But don't tell me about them. I'd rather not spend my time dragging them through the afd. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 02:06, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Checkout Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Cleanup#Notability. BTW, you can remove the prod yourself (a creator can remove a prod, unlike a speedy), but if it stays the same way I have no choice but to take it to an afd. I'm sorry if I'm pissing you off. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 02:31, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think that the source provided is a "third-party published source with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy" that's required per WP:SOURCES. But regardless, even if the source is legit, it has yet to meet the notability standard. A reliable source is the threshold for notability. But the source still has to show why the subject is notable. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 02:51, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- External links aren's references, they aren't included in the article to establish notability. Similarly, school websites aren't in the external links to establish notability. They have references that establish notability. A good examle would be Stuyvesant High School. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 03:32, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

How did you get this template to work? Didn't you have to add something to MediaWiki:Common.css? 76.16.191.46 (talk) 19:08, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Motto of the day
Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.
When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.
If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:36, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
