Hi Linguaddict, I'm a journalist who regularly writes about Wikipedia for Slate, the New York Times, and other publications. If you're interested, you can read some of my work here: stephenharrison.com. I'd be very interested in interviewing you via email for a potential piece about about the OK Boomer Wikipedia page. Would you mind contacting me via my Wikipedia username or at the contact information that's on my website? Thanks much for considering. Stephenbharrison (talk) 23:34, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ok boomer usage

[edit]

I’m a millennial, so I might be getting this wrong. But I would suggest that one significant usage of “ok boomer” seems to be a response to people who are advocating for change when they won’t be around to deal with the consequences. I think in general, all generational cohorts are dismissive of those who don’t have to be held accountable for their actions. Enough of my cohort had reasonably priced college that was less competitive than what your cohort is experiencing. I would say that if I didn’t advocate for student loan aid in some fashion, I’m hurting others with no consequences to myself and would have earned an “ok boomer” dismissal. Taxes, climate change, healthcare, education, social security, retirement, etc are all issues with significant future impact that the boomers won’t be around to deal with. Anyway, the usages in the article do seem to read as being dismissive based on age, rather than lack of consequences and I figured if someone was willing to give some elegant prose to my interpretation, it might help alleviate some of the sore feelings on the page? I’m not sure if this is a public post or a direct message or if you’ll even see this? Or if I’ll see any responses. But I thank you for reading regardless of my accuracy in interpretation of the phrase. Your cohort is amazing and will make the world a better place. I hope us millennials will use our time with influence to pave a great path for y’all to take the reigns in the future. 71.244.146.88 (talk) 14:48, 13 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
