Aussie X Factor

Hi Oz, I'm looking for an article to review for GAN, and saw The X Factor (Australia season 4), which has been languishing at GAC for awhile. I have some questions/concerns I wanted to address before I started the review. You see, the problem I have with this article isn't just that you use Twitter as a source; it's some of your other usergenerated sources, too, like Yahoo7, TV Tonight (a blog), and Throng (another blog, I think). Many of the statements these sources support might be able to supported by other, more reliable sources, such as the audition cities. You state on the article's talk page that other editors had told you that using Twitter was okay; could you refer me to it? You also mention Karise Eden; although it only uses Twitter once, it does use other questionable sources, and it's never been nominated for GA. To be honest, it's my inclination to quick fail this article based upon the lack of reliable sources alone. If you could convince me otherwise, I'll go ahead and review it for GA. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 22:07, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply. It looks like you're not emotionally invested in this article. I looked at the GAN in question; the question about Twitter as a reliable source isn't really answered. I'd follow the WP:USERGENERATED policy, which explicitly names Twitter and other social media sites as an unreliable source. I'm surprised that you couldn't find the sources you need. How about using the episodes themselves? I think that if you worked at it, you could bring this article up to speed. For now, you're right; I think it's best that it's quickfailed. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 05:16, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

titanium edie

yeah -- that would be a lot of work. I note that the previous citation was a pretty flimsy source. I'm hoping that whomever cares about this awe-some song realizes my edits were an essential improvement and does the legwork if they feel a citation is necessary. As written, it not simply a different interpretation, but rather a failure to recognize the irony which is the structure of the song. (e.g. the contrast between the tender vocals and the lyrics' surface interpretation of "strength") Ya feel me?

This song resonates with people not because it is like Queen's, We are the Champions, but because it pulls at the heart like, "send in the clowns".

Your sources for information on Lorna Johnston?

Greetings Oz,

I see from the page history that you were the originator of the Sisters of War article. I am currently planning to create a page about Mrs Lorna Johnston QSO (née Whyte), who is a friend of my wife's family. I was just wondering where you obtained the unreferenced information about her past, as I would like to cite it in the new article. In the Cast section you have written the following information...

  • Sarah Snook as Lorna Whyte. Born in Hay, New South Wales, Whyte was the youngest of eight children. She attended the Hay War Memorial School before training as a nurse at the Corowa Hospital. Joining the army in 1941, she was selected as one of the Australian Army Nursing Service nurses to be part of Lark Force, arriving in Rabaul on 25 April 1941.

I'm keen to make use of this info in the new article, if I can get it verifiably referenced from a reliable source. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. AugurNZ 12:48, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi. The source is the official Sisters of War website by ABC, as mentioned at the bottom of the Cast section. 0z (talk) 20:43, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for that. Hopefully I'll be able to flesh that info out a bit about "Mrs J" as I search for further reliable secondary sources of info about her. Its a shame that Wikipedia doesn't allow primary research, as I am in a good position (with my mother-in-law being close friends with Mrs J and all) to obtain plenty of it. We're all thinking of her and praying for her right now, as she's in hospital at present and not likely to last much longer. AugurNZ 23:03, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
You're welcome. Aw, that's sad to hear. 0z (talk) 23:33, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
Just to let you know, Mrs J passed away yesterday (NZT). Her obituary in the New Zealand Herald can be found here. My wife and I will be attending the funeral. AugurNZ 02:52, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Do you want to collaborate in the edition of Jessie J's page?

Hi, I'm JD3rulo. The thing is that I'm a huge fan of Jessie J, I have made changes in her page, but other users have removed them, replying that the links I referred to don't belong to reliable sources. So I'm wondering if you could dedicate part of your time in helping me to fill some topics that are abandoned, such as Jessie J's vocal type, range and also writing updated news about her career lately. I hope you can help me, cause it seems Jessie's page has been forgotten. If you need some help to write about any article or making research, you can count on me, so this is the only thing I can give you: my friendship to make wikipedia a better and updated site. Chao, have a nice day!JD3rulo (talk) 05:04, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

I read your message in my talk page. So you're interested in Australian artists, the only singers from that country I have ever listened to are Keith Urban and Sia Furler, and I think they're really good, Keith has won Grammy awards, so that validates it. Thanks for letting me a note. See ya!JD3rulo (talk) 05:19, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

samantha jade

Hi oz,

I recently removed some content from Samantha jades awards and nominations page because some of the information on there is incorrect. More specifically the part surrounding the world music awards. Sammi hasnt been nominated for those three awards that are mentioned. She is on a very long list of possible nominations with a heap of other musicians and performers. That's why I tried to remove it. My apologies that I didn't mention that originally.

I am not sure if you put the info on Sammi on there or not but there are some other mistakes on there as well. The photo that has the caption Samantha singing at her birthday is not right. That photo was taken at least a month before her birthday. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Axeyman (talkcontribs) 08:52, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello Oz,

Not sure if you are the person who put Sammies Russian singles chart for firestarter at no 9 or not. If you did I have changed it to it's correct position of currently being at no 10. I have put the proper singles chart link on the reason for changing.. The link that has been used is the Russian Radio airplay chart which is not the official singles chart. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Axeyman (talkcontribs) 20:29, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

sorry and others about awards by Rowland, Beyonce and Destiny's Child

Sorry for people choice awards ! That was pre-nominations only. A question: why in the page of the awards received by beyonce there are also destiny's child awards and nominations? Don't seem me correct! Or they also put it in the awards and nominations's page of kelly and michelle (michelle beginning from the 2001) or delete destiny's child awards also from the page of beyoncé awards! Only Grammy and ASCAP Awards are ab personam" even if defeated to group. All the other prizes are titled to Destiny's Child and not to Rowland, Williams and Knowles.

It is to clarify well and to balance the situation, the feeling is that beyoncė's fan wiki-writers wanted to inflate the number of awards and nomination of beyoncé.

In more in the section Grammy history of Beyonce comes one brought a nomination as featured artist for the album of Lady Gaga of The Fame Monster: motivation is that beginning from the 50th Grammy ceremony all nominations in all album categories must be attributed to every featured artist also? Is it true? Seem me very strange...

But if it were so then Kelly she has received a nomination as feat. artist for the album David Guetta's One Love 52th Grammy cermony and this year for the album Side Effects of Fantasia. We make things clear and we adjust in honest way the situation.

Aafanlynness RUINING Michelle Williams discography

Hi there, I've seen you've already reverted 4 edits by Aafanlynness who is absolutely ruining the hours of hard work I've put in over the years to make Michelle's discography a reliable and ACCURATE source of information. The user has once again made a slew of inaccurate edits including, adding album sales for Journey to Freedom that the cited reference doesn't mention along with changing the chart positions for her first two albums. Additionally the "contributor" has added a column for Belgium in the singles section and listed Say Yes as peaking at #28 when this position was on the URBAN chart and not the main one. Is there a way to revert ALL of their edits? It's awfully time consuming to edit and delete all the mess they've made JonathanLGardner (talk) 00:40, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Her winner single was #1 in iTunes (Australia, Qatar and United Arab Emirates) on day one, and 6 countries on day 3 ( Australia, Qatar ,United Arab Emirate, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Saudi Arabia). The countries she was able to penetrate and reached top 200 on iTunes were the following: 1. Australia 2. Philippines 3. Qatar 4. UAE 5. Saudi Arabia 6. Singapore 7. Hongkong 8. Malaysia 9. Brunei 10. Vietnam 11. Sweden 12. Ireland 13. Cayman Island 14. Sri Lanka 15. Macau 16. Bermuda 17. Canada 18. Bahrain 19. Lebanon 20. Papua New Guinea 21. Norway 22. Chile 23. Egypt 24. Botswana The fans were watching her chart now and then from kworb.net and double checking on iTunes website for each country. I appreciate if you do some more research from reliable source for accuracy to prove the validity of data provided so you can add the information to your write up. Dami Im Heart Beats album sales figures

Hi There,

I noticed that you have made correction to the sales figure for Dami Im's Heart Beats album to say "as of October 2014". Thanks for this, but it's still open to interpretation and likely gives the impression that it's the total sales figure up to now.

The news.com.au article you've cited for point [14] stated that "Last year’s X Factor winner Dami Im’s original album Heart Beats enters at No. 7 on just 3693 sales nationally". Note that it said "enters", so this denoted only first sales returns during October and not the total sales figures up to today. Although what the total sales figure up to now are is hard to determine, because it's something has not been released by ARIA. But it would be appreciated if you could allow the update to reflect this fact.

Joelle is no longer a part of good question. the duo broke up in 2012. Save Me charted at 16 on the iTunes chart. and her X factor performance of Joey charted at number two, the night she was eliminated.

You're right, I changed the picture back. And that decision doesn't make sense. We should try and bring it back, why delete Australian certification categories and keep certs for New Zealand and the UK? Neddy1234 (talk) 14:53, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Jack Vidgen=

Lightsout, I had to remove a paragraph from the article Jack Vidgen as per our policy on biographies of living people. I was unable to find any news sources to replace the dead link and using an exact search, was not able to find the quoted text, other than mirrors of the Wikipedia page. I also did a search across the general media and found there was indeed a police investigation into death threats against Jack Vidgen but very few details were outlined in the reports.I wonder if this information was suppressed from the general public by court order? In Canada, the media is prohibited from release information regarding investigations involving minors and a court injunction can be issued to suppress the information. I wanted to notify you as the article creator and the original source of the content. If you find a replacement source, I will support the information being re-added. Samantha Jade Discography

Could you please remove Armour from the lead artist section. It is only a promotional single. I understand that sources should be used if available, but sometimes common sense should come into it. I also believe I Am Australian should be removed as Sammi is not a lead artist. You cant tell me that with so many artists featuring on the song, they are all lead artists. Finally, Breakeven should also be removed as it is only a promo single and was released in Indonesia as part of the X Factor around the world in August 2013. Axeyman (talk) 06:22, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

Where the single charts is irrelevant whether its a promotional single or not. Armour is not an official single. It was released as a b side to shake that on the physical version and then released on itunes. I dont have to quote any official sources to know that its not an official single. Maybe it should be under another heading other released songs. I could quote you sales figures for shake that as well week 1-5, 138 copies sold week 2-2361 copies sold, week 3-1742 copies sold, week 4-1744 copies sold. But I know if I did you would delete the post, because there is no source provided. Sometimes, its not all about sources. Axeyman (talk) 07:51, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

You are probably not interested but I can give you sales figures of various songs on the aria charts eg Deltas new single wings week 1- 10, 089 copies sold consisting of 8, 547 digital and 1542 physical copies week 2-5853 copies sold consisting of 5, 184 digital copies, 174 physical copies and 495 streaming sales and week 3- 18, 014 copies sold consisting of 15, 764 digital, 1497 physical and 753 streaming sales. So even taking into account that streaming sales dont count towards certification, wings will be definitely be certified gold this week. If you want certain sales figures, I am happy to provide them to you. Axeyman (talk) 08:42, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

I know that Armour is a b side. I mentioned that in my last message to you. Yes, it could very well be a promotional single. My point is where you have listed it on the discography, should only be for officially released singles, and armour doesn't come under that bracket. As far as sources go, we will have to agree to disagree on that. As mentioned to you previously by another user, some things just arent made public. Im assuming that's a no for the sales figures. The offer is still there if you are interested. In general, you do quite a good job. Axeyman (talk) 03:00, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Cyrus' debut single

Hi Lightsout,

Just to let you know that I have created a page for Stone (Cyrus Villanueva song); at the moment, it is a redirect to The X Factor (Australia season 7) as 1) the song has not yet charted on the ARIA Charts and 2) it was getting late the moment Cyrus was announced as the winner.

When you have time, and when you think that it is appropriate to do so, could you please start work on that article ASAP. I would be happy to contribute if need be.

I wasn't going to create it immediately for two reasons: 1) I know how old he is (he's 19) but I didn't know his immediate DOB as there is the chance he could turn 20 between now and December 31 this year, and 2) I am too busy at work at the moment. But your efforts are much appreciated. MasterMind5991 (talk) 00:03, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
