Delhi, Qinghai

I've deleted it per the guideline, but your example of Guanting, Minhe County misses the point — if it followed the same naming format as Delhi, we'd have it at "Guanting, Qinghai". Nyttend (talk) 23:53, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks much. For some reason, towns are never disambiguated by the province. The underlying spirit is the same, however. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 00:00, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Your username

"Warrior of the people"? "One who fights for the people"? Close? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:09, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Not quite. If you are familiar enough with some politics and history, you can decipher the two subtle references, one to a political phrase and one to a military doctrine. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 05:01, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited List of township-level divisions of Shanghai, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Miao, Zhongxing and Xianghua (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

List of township-level divisions of...

Are you the one responsible for the loads of links to disambiguation pages in those articles? If so: GO ON! At least you make (most of) the links solvable. Think I have to leave 1 or 2 behind in each article, and that is not a big problem (at the moment). One of the articles I could not solve, so I left it. A day or half a day later, I tried it again and shot down about 95% of all links. So I think you are doing good and important work. When you do your heap of work and I do my tiny job, Wikipedia will be the all-time winner! Kudos, and keep up the good work! Night of the Big Wind talk 10:03, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks much! This is an inevitable result of the mass creation of articles for the entries at List of township-level divisions of Anhui and List of township-level divisions of Hebei...and once more start churning out, we'll have the same scenario all over again. I am glad that you have not taken offence at my occasional reversion of your edits; no one is always right. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 15:38, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
I am shocked and devastated but you are right with those headers. Never seen that the second "==" came a few lines later. You know that there are in total ten (10) of those articles? (See [2]) Night of the Big Wind talk 17:30, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
Hehehe. Actually, if you look at the sidebar of each article, there are more than 10 blue links; it may be that Xiaoyu alone created 10 of them. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 17:33, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
/me shivers. Hmmm, might be time to sharpen my battle-axe. Night of the Big Wind talk 18:10, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

By the way: you don't have to watch for that dab-template. It will be placed if the bot finds 15 or more links to dab-pages. The bot will also remove the template when the number gets under ten. Nothing to worry about! Night of the Big Wind talk 20:26, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Those climate data are reliable on China's official website and government database. Climate data from 1971-2000 obviously goes far back enough.Lzy881114 (talk) 02:03, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

I don't think it goes back far enough, especially when the all-time extreme max is 2.7 ℃ higher than the 1971–2000 extreme max and the all-time extreme low is 3.7 ℃ lower than the 1971–2000 extreme low. These are far too large of differences. I am going to comment out the record temps for now, and there isn't really any reason to include mean temps. Please do not blanket revert: there isn't anything wrong with removal of fields that are automatically calculated. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 02:16, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
The -41.4℃ extreme low temperature is said to be recorded in the 1940s unofficially. I don't know whether it is trustworthy. Why don't you doubt that record? At least the 1971-2000 meteorological data is authentic since it is published by the CMA(China Metrological Administration) which is obviously an authorized institution.Lzy881114 (talk) 03:08, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
What about the extreme max then?
Combining with 1961–1990 records, the CMA record low is −38.1 ℃, while the record high is still the same. That's still 1.9 ℃ short of −40, and it is also said that Harbin has gone down to at least −40 ℃. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 03:48, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
I think the minus 38.1 celsius degree record is suitable for the climate chart, and we should modifyit to display that this record is from the CMA's 1961-2000 data. The minus 40 or lower record should be explained in the paragraph, with the exact date specified. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 113.8.251.185 (talk) 15:42, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

AutoEd and Climate chart/Weather box

Original query:
When using AutoEd to edit articles that use Climate chart and Weather box, could you refrain from removing some of the extra spaces? For example, if a place drops to −10 °C in winter, all values in the template above −10 °C need to be indented by at least one space. The extra spaces are there for ease of editing and to maintain a tabular format in code. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 15:52, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

Responses:

Thanks for the information. Did this change the formatting of the content in any way that made the information inaccurate? I always check information after using Auto Ed, and haven't noticed information being unintentionally changed. When auto ed reduces the indent in the templates, I certainly hope this doesn't change the actual information in any manner. Northamerica1000(talk) 00:51, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
Not at all. Reducing the indent only makes it slightly more difficult to edit the information. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 00:55, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
All right, that's the most important point, Auto ed doesn't change the information on-screen. The thing is, you should contact the developers of Auto ed about your ideas regarding this matter, because many, many other users use Auto ed, and even if you ask that all use Auto ed per your idea, it's unlikely that everyone would. Perhaps its developers can create parameters to add an extra space in the areas you have mentioned. Northamerica1000(talk) 01:54, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Frysun

I think he's arguing that 藏区 covers Greater Tibet, while 西藏 covers the TAR (so-called Central Tibet). I've seen people argue that the latter is more "Sinocentric", because of the 西, but I am unsure of the connotations of 藏区. Wikipedia really needs an article explaining the political implications of the different terms. I started a draft, and once that's done, I hope Tibet will become a conceptdab. But on the narrow question of Frysun's recent edits, 西藏 would seem to be the common and customary name, while 藏区 is a neologism coined for political purposes. (See the different webpages that a search for each elicits: Chinese govt, Travel agencies, Baidu Baike; vs Boxun, Voice of America, Epoch Times) If the Chinese and English terms have different connotations, they should be explained rather than homogenized with calques and coinages. Primary topics

I've come across numerous articles and dab pages you've created, and really appreciate your hard work. There's only one thing I want to bring to your attention: I hope you'll give more consideration to WP:Primary topic before converting existing pages to dab pages. Of the 10,000s of towns and townships in China, most are barely known outside the local area, but a handful are popular tourist destinations visited by millions.

A few months ago I had to submit a WP:RM to move Zhouzhuang, Kunshan back to Zhouzhuang. I've also noticed that you've moved Xitang to Xitang, Jiashan County, and Xikou to Xikou, Fenghua. But both towns are popular tourist destinations far more famous than the others of the same name. Xitang is a World Heritage Site candidate, and Xikou is the hometown of Chiang Kai-shek and one of the few AAAAA tourist sites in China. I hope you'll agree to move them back to their original locations. Cheers! --Zanhe (talk) 17:42, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Will do when I have the time, perhaps come Friday. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 00:34, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Just stumbled upon another one: Nanxiang, Shanghai, famous for the xiaolongbao. I think it should be moved back to Nanxiang. --Zanhe (talk) 20:20, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
CSD-G6-ed them all. Though technically I could have tagged GSD-G7 for at least one of them.
By the way, there is no need to correct the blue links at List of township-level divisions of _____, because moves take care of redirects. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 20:34, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Here's one more: Luzhi, Suzhou -> Luzhi. Another World Heritage Site candidate (see here). --Zanhe (talk) 18:34, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Jaguar's subdistrict stubs

Hi, GotR. Since it has been decided to delete Jaguar's subdistrict stubs, it would be helpful if you could stop moving them. Kanguole 07:58, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

I still need to perform some moves to disambiguate ambiguous titles. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 22:06, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
When they're deleted, they won't need moving, but turning them into moving targets is making it harder to assemble a list for deletion. Kanguole 23:04, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
I will actually back down for the most part, because creating DAB pages with all red links is pointless. However, if an article has been significantly edited by someone else, or if other non-Jaguar township articles with the same title exist, I will proceed just as before; disambiguating ambiguous red links is much harder than disambiguating links to DAB pages. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 23:15, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. If someone else has filled them in properly, or added zh-wiki links (fewer than 100 of them), there will probably be no call to delete them. But if not, it's a waste of your time, and error-prone too without the hanzi. Kanguole 23:42, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Pinyin

Without reading pinyin I know what it is, and Wade-Giles too. However, disambiguation pages are meant to help those who are unlikely to be aware of the existence of multiple places with similar names. Duplication is a good thing when it makes it easier for readers to find specific articles; your idea will confuse the average English-speaking reader as well as slowing down admins who are doing speedy deletions and find a deletion tag that does not apply. Nyttend (talk) 12:37, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Firstly it isn't fair to exclude the red-link entries on both pages, and I fail to see how a hatnote deals with the problem. Until you agree that the hatnote does this, I will simply merge everything at Xin'an back. Having a DAB page such large when it can be easily split is ridiculous.
For your information, the former hatnote at Xin'an is as follows: Not to be confused with Xinan, which may also be spelled "Xi'nan". The former one at Xinan is . The non-template hatnote makes it particularly clear where the syllables are. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 17:46, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

I've just blocked those two ranges I mentioned on my talk page for 2 weeks--sorry it took so long. Fujian

I do not think putting your bias on editing is a good idea

 • 1. What image i'm deleting? i am only change its place to the government section, did you watch my editing carefully?
 • 2. An ROC passport write FUKIEN as the name of this province [3]
 • 3. County-controlled city is township level, not county level. This link is wrong.
 • 4. Xindian at the time fujian province loceted is a Township (新店鎮) not Xindian district (新店區)

140.109.113.28 (talk) 15:22, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Since you insist on responding here... The only bias in my editing is to describe reality, that is China≠PRC, and Taiwan≠ROC.
I have no idea about Taiwan≠?=ROC i am only following the former editing. But in my opinion, i think the conventional representation "Republic of China (Taiwan)" is allowed in this case. And Kinmen is the current link now. The order of 金門 names should be changed.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.109.113.28 (talk) 15:49, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
If I recall correctly, I changed it to Quemoy (Kinmen) in the section about the 1950s skirmishes between the PLA and KMT. At the time, the place was known mostly as Quemoy. However, all other mentions of the county should be Kinmen. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 15:58, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Northern Chinese and Southern Chinese stereotypes

GuerillaRenMin's source is a British travel book, it is not a trustworthy source. It is a travel book for God's sake. Until you get a book about the geneaology of the Chinese peoples, and it's stereotypes in skin colour and other bodily forms then you cannot state anything solid. It's also true than Sichuan and Shanghai have light skin tones, but it is mostly Northerners who are genrally percieved to have whiter skin. Because Northerners are seen as paler, by many of the Chinese, it is a stereotype - which clearly does fit into that subsection. This section does not really need a citation or a source/reference. It is not a fact - the section clearly on requires stereotypes. GuerillaRenMin is trying to pull a farce and rewrite 5000 years of Chinese self-sterotyping with a Fodor's travel book's conjectures and assertions. What if it was a typo? Who knows. You need more sources to back it up. (Pugu (talk) 22:50, 30 June 2012 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pugu (talkcontribs)

Chongqing edits

Firstly, thanks for thanking me on my edits!
Secondly, thanks for improving that poem in the article.
Thirdly, is their anything I can do to make the article GA class? Want to collaborate on the article? I have a GA mentor, and she can probably help us out. Anyway, thanks for being active regarding Chongqing! Oakley77 (talk) 02:08, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

I can begin by pointing out the weaker links, or sections I should say. Education critically misses the developing Education City and should not be merely a list of institutions, and unfortunately that is a problem found in nearly every article on a mainland Chinese city (except for BJ and SH, which are a great model to work off of). History and, to a lesser extent, Politics are sorely lacking—No discussion of Grandpa Bo's fall? That Demographics fails to discuss ethnic groups (56 of them in the PRC) is discouraging. Tourism needs to be reworked into prose format (shouldn't take long); BJ (see Places of interest) is excellently done. Transport does not need to be much longer than it already is to be complete (see SH), but needs to be better-cited and again, in fluid prose format. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 02:38, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Great, thanks! I will try to complete all this, and I hope you'll help! Oakley77 (talk) 15:26, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
I did a complete and total renovation of the tourism section, and added tons of information about Bo Xilai's fall from office.I invite you to check them out! Oakley77 (talk) 16:34, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Hey, about the Chongqing article? What else needs to be done to make it a Good Article? Is it ready? See, I can't nominate articles for the GAN process, but I can certainly help. What else needs to be done to make Chongqing a GA? Oakley77 (talk) 22:44, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Nominating for GAN now is a bit too ambitious—I say, after I perform copy-editing, the next step should be to call in a WP:Peer Review, so an "outsider" can point out specific improvements to be made. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 23:43, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay, sounds good! Should I nominate it for Peer Review later, or should you? Oakley77 (talk) 03:09, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
I'll do it. I've done it before, and I will need to copy-edit first anyway. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 03:15, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Just wondering, when will you do the copy-edit? Because you said after completing it, you would send Chongqing through peer review. Oakley77 (talk) 17:11, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Good thing I never made a promise until now. It will be done before 27 July. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 17:30, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Hyphens RM

Although this RM was successful, the instructions to move Jiao-Liao Mandarin and Lan-Yin Mandarin with it were apparently ignored. Any reason you know for this? And I wonder if the procedure is just to contact an admin to fix it, or to start another RM. Shrigley (talk) 23:20, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

No, neither was ignored: they were moved (Jiao-Liao and Lan-Yin) by R'n'B, but, without any explanation, moved back on 25 July by Kwami. However, we shouldn't be too tough on him, either. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 23:32, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Also, do you think the Town/Township disambiguation rules at WP:NC-ZH should be amended to allow exceptions (even when unique within province) for (inter)nationally known cities, such as Harbin, Wuhan, and Shenzhen? If yes, then there will be a specific exception list similar to the AP Stylebook used for US cities and towns. Not only does it keep recognisability the same (unlike, say Handan vs. Hebei), it will also save me a lot of work (since the guideline was changed, I've been going around changing links to conform to it) "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 06:38, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, Kwami is facing possible desysopping over behavior like this. And as someone who has been on the receiving end of his arbitrary and unexplained reverts, I can't say I disagree with the proposal. I'm not sure what you mean about the disambiguation rules. Do you mean that if, XX town is under Daoli District, the exception would allow a XX, Daoli rather than XX, Harbin? Guidelines aren't inflexible about these things, but I would support any exception that helps with recognizability in disambiguation. Shrigley (talk) 20:24, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
This Arbitration case was totally invisible on my radar, but after Perth, WA and these two, I am not surprised. I am pushing the guideline to be changed so that a town in Daoli District will read XX, Harbin, not XX, Heilongjiang. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 20:29, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletions

Hello. Thanks for all your contributions. I just wanted to make sure that you're clear on the speedy deletion criteria, because I fear you've been misinterpreting them. After moving a page, the redirect at the original page normally shouldn't be deleted under CSD G7, which reads "For redirects created as a result of a pagemove, the mover must also have been the only substantive contributor to the pages prior to the move." CSD R3 also doesn't apply to page moves. These restrictions are designed to reduce the chances of breaking links to the article (both internal and external). If an article has existed at a title for more than a little while, there's a good chance that there are external links pointing to the page, and deleting the redirect would contribute to link rot. As always, redirects can be nominated at WP:RFD when they don't meet the speedy deletion criteria. Thank you! - Eureka Lott 04:15, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

All right then. I hope I made my intentions clear with the G6 nomination. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 04:20, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Although the continued lack of a native name, and, as you said it, the "rough database coordinates for villages I always like to match it up with a settlement you can view on satellite, the exact location will need chasing", greatly bother me, I believe it could survive the way it is now. Of course, there are 'replacement' locations that I can always fill this title under, and if this article does survive, I will move it immediately. Geonames says fourth level which means Town. Either way, we can literally prove that one exists at least by seeing it on the map.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:20, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

As per NBS (洞桥镇). In the mean time, I am going to clean up the new dab page; some of these don't exist (not much use to create articles for these) or have been renamed. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 20:58, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Edits to Sansha & Paracels lede

If you had thought of having a discussion then do not act by removing my text in the Sansha lede first. I added some lines of clarification to re-balance the text without altering what you (and others) have written. You could have just opposed and raised a discussion in Sansha talk. I read your modification in the lede of Paracels article and agree with the current writing. Note, however, that this is not a matter you compromised; we all contribute to make the information in wiki less and less bias. I will discuss further the Sansha article in Sansha talk. Gacma (talk) 12:22, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

The reason why I raised this issue on your talk page was because this involved more than one article and was not a mere question over content, but also over your editing style. Sansha was tagged with a POV tag, so there is a discussion at Talk:Sansha. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 14:36, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of List of township-level divisions of Jiangxi, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.enotes.com/topic/List_of_township-level_divisions_of_Guangxi.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

Disambiguation question

Given that zh:焦庄乡 is ambiguous, but one of the places is in Baoding, Hebei and one in Henan, is the correct convention Jiaozhuang Township, Hebei or Jiaozhuang Township, Baoding? I am not fully clear on the optimal way to do this (and I am not sure I understand WP:NC-ZH correctly). Can you help and move Jiaozhuang Township (about the one in Hebei) to the correct place? Thank you, —Kusma (tc) 17:53, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

In this case, Jiaozhuang Township, Hebei fits the guideline because "Jiaozhuang Township" is unique (for now) in the province. The revised guidelines are quite confusing, especially for towns, which don't normally use "Town". I recommend that you tag Towns and Townships that need disambiguation with dab needed. ROC District Move request

I noticed that you are opposed to the move request for County (Republic of China) being discussed at Talk:County (Republic of China). There is a similar discussion underway for District (Republic of China). Right now the move for District has unanimous support. While I support the move in both cases, it seems logical to me that the outcome should be the same in both cases. My guess is that since you oppose one you likely oppose the other. To keep the outcome consistent I hope you can contribute your opposition on both pages rather than just one (unless of course you have a reason for opposing one but not the other). I realize this might be considered canvassing but since I'm asking for someone who I think opposes my view rather than someone who supports it I hope there won't be a problem. Readin (talk) 07:12, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

The more relevant parallel is between the County and Township articles, because no offshore (outside of the island) District exists in the ROC and District (ROC) doesn't cover historical material. Although I oppose the District move in principle (i.e. mass moves that are a consequence of an RM at a main article) and believe there should be a moratorium on moving anything X in PRC/ROC, I wouldn't be as upset if it were moved. Benlisquare, as always, should be able to provide more fiery rhetoric, so you may (???) wish to turn to him with a simpler message. Template talk:Countries and territories of East Asia

I'm guessing what I wrote isn't what you were hoping for.

When I started editing, the people who thought we should use "Republic of China" seemed to have the upper hand most of the time. I stopped editing for a while and was pleasantly surprised upon returning to discover that things were changing, and to see the three-admin decision. Ever since then the people who prefer "Taiwan" seem to way outnumber those who prefer "Republic of China". But the time I spent discussing the issue with editors who preferred "Republic of China" forced me to think about it a lot. While I still agree with changing the name of the main article to "Taiwan", I think we're going too far in using Taiwan exclusively in article names.

The way I see it, there is a "Taiwan" that represents a country just like France, Spain, Germany, Indonesia, America, or Australia. That country (land, peoples, cultures) has a current government, but it also existed prior to the current government. There is also a "Republic of China" that has a story to be told. It has institutions, laws, symbols, and it existed prior to the move to Taiwan.

In most cases the government exists only within the country so both are easily and naturally covered in one article. With Taiwan and the ROC, they may be married now but each had a past that is independent of the other. That plus the fact that the ROC still hasn't come to terms with Taiwan's existence, make me think we should recognize that the two are separate beings. Taiwan is a country. ROC is a government. Both are important. Both exist. Both have a history. And while they are joined for now, they are not a single being.

But I wasn't able to persuade enough people with that argument. I still try - but as I said, the people who prefer "Taiwan" all the time seem to be carrying the day. Readin (talk) 00:35, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

I don't think "I'm guessing what I wrote wasn't what you were hoping for" is a good description of my view of you—I knew from the move discussion at the main article that you are not going to agree with me even 75% of the time. However, you have set yourself apart from those who have taken a hard line on this issue (i.e. to use Taiwan in all situations except the UN and the Civil War). So I am thankful that you fully explained yourself. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 01:08, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

whitewashing on turkic people articles

a turkish user, socks of the banned Tirgil34 have been adding pictures of caucasian looking people ( who look like anatolian turks from turkey) on articles of turkic people who look predominantly asian, like the salar and kazakh. The uyghurs look about half caucasian and half asian for their general population, which means that there should be an equal balance of pictures on that article. However, he also swapped the primary picture in the uyghur article ot a caucasian looking person, and did it on all the other language articles on uyghurs such as the arabic, japanese, and other wikipedias. He uploaded the picture himself and claimed it was his own,but the metadata on wikimedia commons indicate that the photo has been through adobe photoshop, not a personal camera. He took the photo off a random uyghur website and im sure its a straight copyright violation.

His contributions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Aparhan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Greczia

And on wikimedia commons there was only one salar guy who looked caucasian. Every other picture was of asian looking ones, but he deliberately selects a caucasian one, just as he did for the kazakh article, so his agenda was really obvious. Mendsetting (talk) 04:31, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

I saw that your changes to Wikipedia:Manual of Style/China-related articles‎ were reverted by N-HH and I agree completely with his reversion and for the reasons he stated. However, I'm pretty sure words similar to the ones you inserted were once part of the convention. If you have time you might look into the history of the article (which unfortunately has had name changes so it might not be easy, there is another convention for "Chinese" articles you should find and look into since that section of text used to be there) to see if you can find when those words were removed. I'm guessing it was done after the 3 admin decision that occurred early this year. If you can find when the change was made, and show that it was made with little or no discussion, you'll have a good case for putting the old text back in place until there has been decent discussion. Those guidelines should not be changed without a good deal of discussion but it looks to me like they have been. Readin (talk) 16:08, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Merry Christmas!

Hello Guerrilla of the Renmin! Wishing you a very Happy Merry Christmas :) TheGeneralUser (talk) 13:00, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Guerrilla of the Renmin. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Zhonglu, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

 1. edit the page
 2. remove the text that looks like this:
 3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Skrelk (talk) 08:07, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Mess

What can we do to undo the mess created by Fizikanauk?[4] 14.0.208.107 (talk) 07:11, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

I've reverted the moves that would attract certain opposition from Jiang and more neutral users such as Shrigley and Readin; everything else, though, 1) I have already reverted back in May or 2) does in part deal with geographic issues or 3) is not worth initiating any confrontation over. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 23:28, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
What exactly do you mean by your points 2 and 3? 14.0.208.112 (talk) 07:04, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
2) "in Taiwan" can have geographic connotations, so the justification for using ROC is not as strong anymore. 3) Someone upset with a potential move to ROC may revert my actions, so if the topic is not, for example, the military or the government itself, it may not be worth a move war. Note that 2 implies 3. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 07:07, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Stub tags

Hi, I spotted your comment at User_talk:MrNiceGuy1113#Stub_tagging. As you're obviously familiar with the relevant part of the stub tag hierarchy, it would be helpful if you could just add the appropriate stub tag when you create each article. That's the best way to ensure that it gets the right tag, and would save other editors from having to work out, sometimes wrongly, how to stub-sort the article. Thanks. Speedy deletion declined: Pink Friday :The Pinkprint

Hello Guerrilla of the Renmin. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Pink Friday :The Pinkprint, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: A9 doesn't apply because Nicki Minaj has an article. This probably fails WP:NALBUMS - suggest PROD or AfD. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 12:23, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the message, I got to know my mistake after "cut copy paste move" but somehow I am not able to see the drop down thing. I have already approached an admin for help (as I know very few admins). To be correct I have re-moved the page as the page was moved to a different name by an editor without consensus. Any help in rectifying my mistake is appreciated. Thanks. Also I have not moved any other page --sarvajna (talk) 15:58, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

Xidian (town)

Hi GoTR, and first of all thank you for your tireless contributions. Also thank you for nominating Xidian (town) for speedy deletion. It was the right thing to do, since I had created it in error and then I simply turned it into a redirection. However, after you marked it for speedy deletion, I thought it was a good opportunity to turn it into an actual article, so I did. So I hope you will agree it was a good idea to remove your tag. Cheers, Azylber (talk) 22:46, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

No worries. BTW, when Google Earth does not automatically provide it (as is often the case), how do you lookup the postal code for particular towns? "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 23:41, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Caoqiao station

By the way, I'm being harassed on the Chinese Wikipedia.

We wrote an article about a train station in Beijing, Caoqiao: [5]

It has 4 valid references, a photo, an interwiki link to the English Wikipedia article and some relevant location and facilities information. It's one of the new subway stations that opened in Beijing last month. All the articles about the other stations exist and nobody is trying to delete them.

However, there is a user constantly tagging this one for deletion, notability, etc. I don't know why he's doing this, but he refuses to answer my requests to explain why he's doing it. He send it to AfD and the decision was keep. But he's still doing it. And every time I remove the notability tag he adds it back, without saying why. I don't want to engage in an edit war, so perhaps someone uninvolved could remove that tag.

Would you please be able to take a quick look? Cheers! Azylber (talk) 00:21, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

that same user is still doing the same. He re-added the tag you removed: [6] what can we do next? Azylber (talk) 13:07, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
The Chinese Wiki equivalent of WP:ANEW seems to be barely watched and highly ineffective. The same goes with their WP:ANI, which in fact has been deactivated, and WP:ANM. I am not familiar with the administrative infrastructure over there, so the most feasible option would be to contact individual admins. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 19:18, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I know what you mean. I have contacted an admin individually now. We'll see what happens. By the way, this guy re-added the tag again, after you removed it for the second time. Azylber (talk) 19:39, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
Hi, update on this. After I contacted an admin, he stopped his agressive behaviour and removed the tag himself and even did improvements to the article. Very strange, but I am glad this problem is over. Thanks for your help. Azylber (talk) 11:37, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Hainan map with highlighted counties

What do you think of the idea of using a cropped version of this image in each county article, with the county shown in a colour different from the rest of the province? It might convey more than the pushpins. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:54, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Looks nice :) (sorry for stalking, I saw it by accident!) Azylber (talk) 11:38, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
Agree that it conveys more than the pushpin (especially the dreaded Location map China which is akin to using a nuclear warhead to kill a mouse!) alone, and it would be a must-have, though it wouldn't hurt to keep the Hainan pushpin which pinpoints the location of the seat precisely. Yinggen and Qiongzhong

Hello my friend. Long time. I'm confused about:

I've been to the town, and I think it's called Qiongzhong. Do you have information otherwise? Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:54, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

The reason this confusion exists is because on less-detailed maps, counties may be labelled as points which in fact correspond to the county seat, which, in this case, according to the PRC National Bureau of Statistics, is Yinggen. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 15:54, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
Now I'm even more confused. :) I'll phone someone there and ask. I know that's OR, but maybe they can offer a clue to sort it out. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:01, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
Well, to me the NBS (in addition to news releases on changes to administrative lineups since 2011) has the final say on this. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 00:47, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
I have to agree. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:05, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Nomination of 松山 for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article 松山 is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/松山 until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. —Ryulong (琉竜) 04:57, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Also per WP:BRD, you made a bold edit eliminating Matsuyama (disambiguation). I reverted it. And now the AFD is discussing it. Please do not eliminate the disambiguation solely for articles titled "Matsuyama" again.—Ryulong (琉竜) 06:48, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

There is also no reason to remove all entries from Songshan that are written with the CJK characters listed above. And this is a personal attack if I ever saw one. Lest we forget your behavior hasn't exactly been spotless either.—Ryulong (琉竜) 10:42, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

My block under GotR was self-requested, so no there is no need to make a tomfool of yourself by mentioning it. As Tartanator, there were a few mis-understandings on both sides, which I will not elaborate or rant on unless you ask me to. I have moved beyond all of what you mention, and my actions under the name GotR speak for themselves.
The point of my (I will admit, bluntly-worded) edit summary is; you have fallen from a historic high as an administrator and, if you continue to abuse rollback as you have done at both Matsuyama (disambiguation) and Songshan, the community may not look kindly upon this and thus your history may be modeled by f(t) = −(t−1337)3, where t is Time and t ≥ 0. Tholing

Hi. Expanding Tholing Monastery, I spotted an earlier stub on the "village" of Toling which I moved to Tholing, However, I believe that this is actually a township-level division and town now called Zanda, Tibet, can you check and move and add data as appropriate?♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 12:36, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

No, per the PRC's National Bureau of Statistics list for Zanda County, the county seat is a town by the name of Tuolin (托林镇), which I suspect matches "Tholing". "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 18:48, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
Can you check Qingfengdian, couldn't find the official PRC source for the info.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 23:40, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
Calm head mate, nobody removed it on purpose..♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:13, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for creating useful pages such as this: List of township-level divisions of Jiangsu! However, I wonder why this and other similar pages do not have the county and district names (Baixia District, Gulou District, Nanjing, Jiangning District .... Lishui County 等等) wikified? -- Vmenkov (talk) 00:09, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

I kept the links in the headers while the lists were under construction, mainly for my benefit so I know which county and county-level city names are unique, but delinked the headers after completion due to MOS. I suggest adding, say Jiangsu to the list for Jiangsu, just below the TWP-LV division "sidebar". "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 01:01, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
I guess that would do. But from my point of view, making each second-level header into a wikilink (i.e. ===Baixia District=== etc) would be highly convenient for navigation. Suppose a casual user was searching for "XXX township"; he found the appropriate "List of township-level divisions of YYY" page, then he found the "XXX" line in this page - but all he sees (as it is often the case) - is a see of red links. In some cases (so far) not a single blue link in sight! Even if all the county links are hidden in a Jiangsu template at the bottom of the (rather large!) page, the user probably won't know about it. This is why I think that making the county name into a (blue!) link would be helpful.
Anyway, you've designed these pages (and it's great that you've done it!), so I won't make haphazard changes myself, but rather would defer to your opinion. -- Vmenkov (talk) 04:41, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
I suppose that those divisions with less than perhaps 75% of the links being blue can have their headers linked, but for places like Shijiazhuang, Hebei and Dongguan, Guangdong the added benefit is reduced and not worth coming to odds with MOS. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 19:10, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Don't use misleading edit summaries to restore your preferred version of the page. There is nothing "ungrammatical" other than the missing word "located" but its omission did not require you to go back to a version of the page you like better than the one the rest of us have been working on.—Ryulong (琉竜) 18:28, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
