I reverted your addition of a large number of categories to American Legion‎

Please review WP:OCEPON. You shouldn't copy every single category from the page (American Legion) and add them to the category of the same name (Category:American Legion). Instead categories should only have a select few categories that apply to ever page in the category. WP:OCEPON has some good examples. Mason (talk) 23:56, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

"Roger Wilco." Lieutcoluseng (talk) 20:17, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
I don't understand what you mean with this reply. Mason (talk) 20:46, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
Now, I do... here's the link Roger Wilco if anyone else is equally perplexed. Mason (talk) 20:47, 2 June 2024 (UTC)

I noticed that you've unilaterally changed the caption here and have added a note not to change it. But I do object to the use of "gallant charge" in the new caption. Yes, the charge was gallant, but it's not an encyclopedia's role to point that out in image captions. I also don't think it's good practice to add language indicating that material should not be changed when there has not been a specific discussion over that material. Hog Farm Talk 13:11, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

Good afternoon, Hog Farm. I copied the lithograph's caption verbatim as it was originally copyrighted by the publisher (Middleton, Strobridge & Co.) in the 19th-century (See Library of Congress). With regards to the note; it merely points out that the title, as currently written, conforms to the template's example with an editorial request for talk page consideration before editing. If you find the note or Middleton, Strobridge & Co.'s use of the word "gallant" offensive in the lithograph's caption, by all means, please remove both. Lieutcoluseng (talk) 11:23, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
I don't think it's offensive - I just think in captions that we need to keep in mind that the purpose of our articles (encyclopedic education) is different than the purpose of the 19th century works these illustrations were published in (generally patriotic literature or works rightfully glorifying the deeds of the veterans). Or at a minimum, if you're going to quote the caption of the older work, you need to make it clear that this is a quote. Right now, the caption in the Jackson article is written as to be Wikipedia making this description directly, rather than this being directly from a Middleton, Strobridge & Co. A tag has been placed on Category:Louisiana in the War of 1812 indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. Ping

Just in case you don't get my pint, please see Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view/Noticeboard#American_Legion. Thank you! Polygnotus (talk) 03:47, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

OK that was a Freudian slip I wanted to say "ping". Polygnotus (talk) 03:47, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

Would you please be so kind to stop adding WP:COMMENTs to articles? Polygnotus (talk) 06:28, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

If I inadvertently cluttered up Wikipedia with WP:COMMENTs, it was unintentional as I have merely been following an "Editor's Note:" theme I observed embedded in other Wikipedia articles. I will give serious thought to your timely request and thank you for your own countless contributions to the online encyclopedia over the years. Lieutcoluseng (talk) 11:41, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
No worries, there is no WP:DEADLINE and all problems are fixable. Please read Help:Shortened_footnotes and skim Template:Harvard citation no brackets/doc. You can test it out in the WP:SANDBOX. If anything is unclear the people at the Teahouse will be happy to help. I have cleaned up the mess by putting the sources in the "General Sources"-section, and then using the {{Harvnb}} template to refer to them. Because you've used certain pages multiple times I've used User:Polygnotus/DeDuplicateReferences.js to combine those references. Please look at the history page. Thank you, Polygnotus (talk) 06:28, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
Before I forget, many people on Wikipedia consider WP:COMMENTs that are used to give instructions to other Wikipedians an indication of a form of ownership over the article. So leaving those comments can be perceived as rude by some. I understand that is not your intention of course. Polygnotus (talk) 11:58, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for sharing your insight on how to improve Wikipedia. Your honest feedback was invaluable. Lieutcoluseng (talk) 12:06, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
