Guidance Barnstar
The Guidance Barnstar | ||
Lenticel, I give you this Guidance Barnstar in recognition of your kind guidance regarding the matter of merging Luzon Empire and Ancient Tondo. -- Alternativity (talk) 10:33, 18 October 2008 (UTC) |

Hi. As per LK's suggestion, I've given much thought to the name of this article, and the appropriateness of a "Kingdom of" format. In light of this, and the existence now of Kingdom of Maynila and Kingdom of Namayan, I'd like to move Ancient Tondo to Kingdom of Tondo. But I'd specifically like to ask if you have objections to it. I've raised the matter up on talk:Ancient Tondo. Thanks. (I know I'm supposed to be on Wikibreak in preparation for NaNoWriMo, but I can't help myself... -- Alternativity (talk) 17:14, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm okay with that. I think there are no other English translation that would be useful to describe that settlement.--Lenticel (talk) 11:33, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
A suggestion
I'd like to suggest you take a look at WP:GAR to see what it's about. What you'll find is that GAR is not a hostile delisting task force, it's just another group dedicated, as it seems you are, to the quality of the encyclopedia. Malleus was working for GAR, doing tedious work to make sure the quality of GAs had not deteriorated. As you know, articles can worsen over time, as miscellaneous edits accumulate, so this is a job worth doing. He had no intent to offend you, or any editor, and in fact did a good deal to help the article; but when you didn't understand why he was doing what he was doing, your blunt reaction startled and irritated him. Like you, he's a volunteer, after all.
Malleus has now essentially given up on the project; see this recent version of his user page. I know that you're an administrator; I read your RfA and it appears you're well liked and respected, and were trusted to make mature decisions. I'd like you to consider how this interaction looked from Malleus's point of view, and then see if you find his reaction understandable. If so, it would probably be helpful if you stopped at his talk page. I think you do owe him something of an apology: he did a good deal of work on Chocolate Hills, thinking that the editors of that page would be grateful for the help in keeping the article at the same level of quality it was when it was taken to GA. If I were an editor of that page, I'd be glad of the help; I think you should consider thanking Malleus. And if you can get to the point where you can understand why Malleus became so disenchanted with Wikipedia after his interactions with you, an apology would be very helpful.
Thanks -- Mike Christie (talk) 01:35, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- I would have to second what Mike says. Looking at the edit history for Chocolate Hills, he worked his ass off to fix it, and if an article isn't GA quality to some, then a GAR can help determine whether it is. Trust me, I've seen articles listed as GA that aren't even close to meeting the criterion, at least this article just needed a bit of help, which he mostly provided. I'll defend those I've nominated for adminship, but if they're in the wrong then I'm going to let them know that. Granted, this isn't huge, just someone getting a little too attached to an article they're trying to keep in the best shape that they can (though on that matter, you only had 3 edits to that article before the GAR, so the passion was a lil surprising). I'd like to see an apology to Malleus for overreacting, as I truly believe he was just acting in good faith, and I hope you can see that too. The last thing I want to see is one of my nominations go off the deep end after getting too passionate about something.. it happened once already and I probably couldn't handle a second one :/ Wizardman 16:47, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- Mike asked me to chip in, so I guess I'll just assume the "sensei" role again. I think that your labelling of the reassessment was over the edge. Periodically, the GA Wikiproject will perform sweeps to check for old GAs that don't comply with the criteria. As such, they gave some ways in which the article needed to be fixed a year after the article passed GA. The issues that were raised might have been fixed themselves, but they were better dealt with by someone with some past expertise. Part of the reason why it took you less than an hour to fix the issues was because Malleus had already dedicated more than an hour cleaning up and copyediting the article to get back to GA. Both of you guys got impassioned, and consequently both of you guys lost your heads. I think it would be good if you gave Malleus an apology, because he is on the brink of leaving, and we should not risk the loss of a capable copyeditor around here. I stand by and look over those that I have known, coached, collaborated with, and nominated, so I ask you to please apologize to him, for both of you guys' sakes. bibliomaniac15 21:59, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- I would third or fourth this advice. Adminship is a responsibility as well as a tool, and an apology here would be most welcome. Geometry guy 22:02, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

If I may just interject. I have absolutely no interest in an apology from Lenticel, and would not accept one even if it were offered; he is just one more example of the rot in the administrator corps. Not his fault, rather the fault of the system that chose him and finds it impossible to unchoose him once he's demonstrated his unsuitability for the position. --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 23:59, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'll just give you a truce then. I'll stay out of your business and you stay out of mine. I interacted with you as an editor and I never abused my tools on you or anyone else. Admin status does not give your opinion an edge and it doesn't get you popular with the ladies. It also doesn't mean that you're perfect as well. I still think that GA Sweeping is wrong and I'm quite disillusioned with the GA process right now. Wikipedia is a volunteer project and anything that forces people to edit using negative means is wrong and I'm quite passionate about it since the begining. Had you requested help and not do a "do my demands and I'll spare this article" then I might happily agree to edit the article. To be fair with my mentors and my fellow tambay I think it is better for me to take a chill pill to clear my head.--Lenticel (talk) 00:31, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't recall anyone being forced to edit "using negative means" or even at all. Much less you, who just barged in. You may never have abused your tools, but you have certainly set a pretty poor example of the standards that have sadly come to be expected of administrators these days, and continue to do so. I will consider accepting an honest apology from you if and when your head ever clears. --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 19:03, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Dream Satellite TV
Jerry deleted Dream Satellite TV article last January. It means this is the satellite network in the Philippines. Can you please restore the article? You're an administrator, right?
Here's the AfD discussion of the article.
Website: Dream Satellite TV website is still currently active. 121.96.104.137 (talk) 07:19, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- I looked at the old version and I think that it will be deleted again even if I restored it since it has no multiple reliable sources that suggests notability. I suggest that you create a new version of the article that fulfills the requirements in here instead. Note that the mere existence of the website only suggests that the organization is existing. You need to include multiple independent and reliable sources (sources outside the employees and management of Dream Satellite TV). --Lenticel (talk) 08:13, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Revive the Tambayan collaboration department?
I think the Tambayan needs to try getting another crack at this collaboration thing. The previous attempt failed due to a lack of interest, a lack of available materials, and too lofty a goal (FA). Looking at what happened to WP:MMM, getting articles to FA status is not an easy task especially for a loosely-held group of people like the Tambayan.
I know you're leery of the GA process, but I think that getting articles to GA status is more achievable. I certainly prefer getting 10 articles to GA than getting 1 article to FA for the same amount of effort.
So I suggest that we overhaul the Collab process in the following ways:
- Only 1 article at a time
- No deadline or maybe a deadline of 1-2 months (not weekly or fortnightly)
- Goal is GA or B-class
- Nomination for articles must include proof that the goal for that article is achievable (e.g., show that there's plenty of online references)
- Nominator of chosen article will lead the collaboration
- Nominate articles from the Top- or High-importance categories
I'm also thinking you be the Collaboration department chair since I'm already handling the Assessment department. :-D
What say you? --seav (talk) 03:10, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Since that fiasco, I got disillusioned about the GA process. I think I'll be able to help as an article builder but I can't take the role of department chair. By the way, I think you should re-run that script to get a new batch of articles to assess.--Lenticel (talk) 03:19, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'll run that assessment script within this week.
- As for the collaboration, ok, I'll try to look for a willing guy to be chair. But what can you say about the collaboration process? Based on what you've seen happen for People Power Revolution, how can we improve the process? --seav (talk) 03:41, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- I think it is better to have two or more point people to manage the article rather than just one. A single point person seems to burn out faster thus slowing down the momentum of the collaboration.--Lenticel (talk) 03:55, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Can we semi-protect the Bukidnon State University article?

Me having problem with wiki.
Idk, i am paranoid. When I am logged out, Wiki seems to be working good. But the moment I log in, there seems to be a problem with the pages I am visiting. Something to do with the skin, but no, I am in no doubt it has nothing to do with the skin. When I edit pages, there seems to have a problem too, my tools in editing is missing. Do you have the same problem as I do? I tried logging in at our office, it is the same, the page appear to be not organized. I tried logging in at my house, it is still the same. Do you have the same problem as I do or I am the only one? Axxand (talk) 06:45, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
- Ow then. May be I should contact the helpdesk if this problem persist! Thanks! Axxand (talk) 07:53, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
- Ow really gawdy! Whew, I am having problems with wiki since 3 or 4 days and I really can't edit articles as my tools are missing, additionally, I can't see the differences between revisions. Yesterday, I tried to fix it.. reviewing my "aking kagustuhan" or my preference, but to no avail, didn't fix the problem. Then I asked you, and you suggested the preference section again. Hehe. I got it, I am on Classic, then I switched it on Simple and I put it on Modern, not until I realized the default is the MonoBook. Thanks again, if you did not suggest the preference section, I would have given up. Axxand (talk) 08:01, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Debate Results Protest
I argued to remove the redirect argument by analogy → false analogy and I have now found that "the result of the debate was Keep." Why is this the result? Because I stopped arguing and lost by default? B. Wind's "argument" ("we are left with two options: either deletion or keeping the redirect. Clearly the latter is the better option. . . there is no valid reason to delete the redirect right now") is merely an expression of opinion that cites no reasoning behind it, and Rossami's reply is actually an argument to keep the page history, but similarly makes no attempt to justify the opinion that the redirect should stay. Neither B. Wind nor Rossami say anything to refute my reasoning to remove the redirect, which is actually destructive, since it implies that there is already an article for "argument by analogy" and thus decreases its chances of being created as a separate article. Minaker (talk) 22:19, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
I am trying to follow your advice, but the deletion review page is hopelessly confusing. I can't even find the archive of the debate. Where exactly on the deletion review page do I post? Minaker (talk) 22:52, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Why exactly shouldn't this be included in WP, given that we have articles on a single verse/saying, such as But to bring a sword? It is well-sourced, and under what part of WP:NOT doesn't it belong? Thanks for an explanation. Carl.bunderson (talk) 05:40, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- The article will be kept, deleted, merged or redirected regardless of transwiki. See Wikipedia:TRANSWIKI.--Lenticel (talk) 05:46, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, I didn't realize that. I thought transwiki meant "delete, and then transwiki". However, it seems that by saying transwiki, you've avoided a "real" answer in the AfD debate ;) :p Thanks again! Carl.bunderson (talk) 05:51, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Leverage
I wanted to note that you raised concerns that "leverage" meant politics. Not at all. Simply put, admins don't really concern themselves with discussing blocks with non admin, and non admin are totally left out of the ArbCom enforcement discussions. Both of these areas tend to weigh heavily to those who seek to put harder punishments than are necessary, which drive editors either off of Wiki or, in the worse cases, sets them up for years of being a vandal or sock puppeting. I've witnessed it many, many times in the past. Ottava Rima (talk) 23:26, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi. A quick question: is this a legitimate term that's known about in the Philippines, or is it just the invention of some blog the author lifted it from (in which case WP:RS would not be satisfied)? Thanks. - Biruitorul Talk 03:39, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

I enjoy being in Wikipedia but alas my time here is coming to an end. This WikiSloth is floating in the river of IRL, away from the dense jungle of the wiki and into newer horizons. I'm not leaving at Wikipedia because they don't treat me well enough or other arrogant nonsense. On the contrary, there are now editors that can easily take my place and give me the peace of mind that the wiki will eventually improve. The Tambayan has good editors that produce great articles and help shape old ones. MFD and RFD has more admin monitors now. Even DYK has experienced some nice boost in volunteers.
As for me, I'll be devoting more time improving real life things so I have to cut down on my internet entertainment and volunteering usage (not all usage, I still need it for research and my job).
It may take a little while before I get back to editing but I hope you guys and Wikipedia will be much better than when I left.

Hello, I noticed you have a UP Student/Alumni User box for University of the Philippines (UP) and thought you might want to support our recent proposal to create the WikiProject University of the Philippines. We've recently revamped the proposal and started a drive to push the approval of this project. We have a lot of articles that may be under this project and we would like assistance and support for its approval. Hope we'll have a very positive response. Go Fighting Maroons!

Dude, i've already prepared the stub for the Hayden gate article on my user page. can you give me some ideas on what sections to include on this one.Flamerounin (talk) 03:05, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
i'm still collecting the sources and still working on the article outline. will put in the sources before i publish the whole thing. i'll be working on this one and my other project (tayong dalawa page revamp) over the weekend. Flamerounin (talk) 12:02, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
can you check the progress of this article? give your opinion on the tone and manner of presentation, also on the headings used. i'll make revisions and further expansion based on your comments. Flamerounin (talk) 04:07, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Gerald Gonzales sock
i've tracked a suspected Gerald Gonzales sock lurking around again. he went by the name of Offending or Overhead something (can't remember the exact name, was doing office work when i caught this). he did some vandalisms on the hayden kho page. and from the looks of his "contribs" the account is new and most of his entries are as such. he is apparently lying low now, as i can't see his user entries again. kindly report this to blake and the others to catch him if shows up again Flamerounin (talk) 15:19, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- I can't find him in the history section of the article, a lot IP vandals though. perhaps it's just a false alarm.--Lenticel (talk) 00:28, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
nope, he had the account for two days i think. and he used a particular user name. anyways, i'll try to track him down if he shows up again. Flamerounin (talk) 02:45, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
I fixed this up a bit, cleaned up the bad English, and added cites. It appears to be notable. Bearian (talk) 18:21, 11 June 2009 (UTC) P.S. I removed your ProD tag. Bearian (talk) 18:24, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

In English language discussions of the feral or random-bred population of dogs found in the Philipines, the word "Askei" is sometimes used. The problem with the article is what to call it. The word Mongrel and Mutt both link to mixed breed, which says that it's a vague misnomer that is based on reverse logic about how such popularions arise; namely that they are what results when purebred animals mix, while the reality is that such random-bred populations as the "Askei" are the gentic soup from which purebred dogs are artifically selected.
The word "breed" is going to be problematic, because according to one very popular definition, it implies breed recognition by the UKC or some such. The word "mutt" says random-bred, but probably says more about how we feel about these dogs, which may have a very healthy set of genes. "Lesser dog", "disrespected dog", "filthy, dirty, mangy mutt". It's a lot like the word "cur", it's heavy on the negative connotation and maybe therefore too point-of-view for an encyclopedia, except for maybe in a subsection about how the native population feels about the native random-bred dogs. You could say the same about "Mongrel".
The word landrace is pretty accurate. That's what they are, but you have to think whether you want a word so few people understand in the lead of an article. They're definately random-bred, and that's more easily understood. But remember these two are not exactly the same meaning.
Adding to this is the fact that, outside of this very narrow topic range, the word basically doesn't exist in English, but is rather one of several words the native populations tend to have about such dogs, and most of them have the meaning of "no particular type of dog", "street dog", "stray dog", or some such. Native speakers of the language stop by objecting to the specialist English langauge borrowing their words.
Your thoughts? Chrisrus (talk) 01:01, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- I haven't heard about askei before so I can't comment on that. Basically in our country, askal is any non-purebreed dog. I don't even know if these dogs could be considered as a landrace since I can't find sources that do state askals as such. Hmmm... Perhaps it is better to convert this to a Stray dogs in the Philippines article in the vein as Stray dogs in Moscow and Stray dogs in Bangkok.--Lenticel (talk) 07:57, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

What to do with the Persondata article
Hello. I was trying to find information on what "Persondata" was and came across the Persondata article, which has been deleted multiple times. I wrote on the talk page about how there seems to be a problem - the article has been deleted multiple times, but there seems to be a legitimate issue where people can't find information.
I see you were involved in an RDF for the article so I thought I would leave you a message - if you have input on what we could do to solve this please visit the Persondata talk page and leave a note. Thanks! --Culix (talk) 04:10, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors
Hi! Since you've been identified as an Awesome Wikipedian, I wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.
If that sounds like you and you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors during the current term, which started in January and goes through early May. If that's something you want to do, please apply!
You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).
I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:43, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Trypanosoma lewisi DYK nomination
Hi, I just reviewed your nomination for WP:DYK of Trypanosoma lewisi. I just had a few concerns with the paragraph cited in the first hook:
- Many researches have been done on this parasite because it was easy to grow it in rats in the laboratory, which made it easier for the researchers to maintain it and get the results. ablastin, an antibody that arises during an infection in the host’s body, was a fascinating subject for the researchers. The presence of the antibody prevents the parasite from reproducing although they remain in adult form.
- "Many researches..." – not actually incorrect to use a plural form of "research", but it is very rarely used. Maybe change to "Much research" or "Many research studies"?
- Should "ablastin" be capitalised in the second sentence?
- I know it's not the hook, but I'm not sure about the statement that ablastin was a "fascinating subject", it doesn't seem to be mentioned in the cite—it's the sort of statement I would be careful to reference as it ascribes an emotional response to the researchers.
- The hook sentence is fine as it is clearly mentioned in the abstract to the paper.
Let me know if you want me to re-review the nomination. Thanks, --Canley (talk) 23:53, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Maybe it was a bad-faith nomination.
HOWEVER, this song is no more notable than the ECU song is. You can't have it both ways. You either keep all the college songs, or you go through a notability process and chop it down to the most notable. (Notre Dame, for example). ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 14:37, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
- You could re-nominate it if you want.--Lenticel (talk) 00:06, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
- Only if they kill the ECU song article. It's hypocritical to ascribe notability to an otherwise-unknown song just because it goes with a more prestigious school. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 00:13, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
- No idea on what the ECU song is all about. I don't have any judgement on the notability of any of the Afd's in question. I only acted to stop the disruption caused by the mass Afd nom. I leave the issues of notability to the editors as no admin tools are needed for that. Should I come and comment on those Afd's I'll come as an editor not an admin.--Lenticel (talk) 00:22, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
- The disruption was stopped when the editor was blocked. You didn't stop any disruption, you merely pre-empted discussion of the other songs. You should have left the AFD's in place and let the individual songs be judged on their own merits. Obviously, songs like Notre Dame and Michigan and Wisconsin and a number of others have very famous fight songs. But it's not fair to single out one "non-notable" song while leaving so many other "non-notable" songs on the books. You should revert your closures and let the editors decide what qualifies as "notable". ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 00:29, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
- You could translate events the way you wish. I have said my piece and wouldn't comment any further. --Lenticel (talk) 00:37, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Requesting help watching an article
Hi. Could I ask for your help specifically on the Rajah Lakan Dula article ( Which I'm convinced should be renamed Lakan Dula, but that's a fight for a different day) and its talk page Talk:Rajah Lakan Dula? Anons have been pushing a fringe theory there, and have not hesitated to personally attack me for disagreeing. I think you're online more often than I am and able to watch over those pages more often than I am. I'm not asking for major work there (although more hands would be welcome hehe), just for folks to guard against the unwarranted addition of uncited facts, the removal of cited facts, the use of unreliable (oral family history) sources, and vandalism.? Thanks. :D Sigh, it's "Luzon Empire" all over again. - Alternativity (talk) 06:53, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
- I'll try Alt. Man they wouldn't give up, would they?--Lenticel (talk) 07:01, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
- I don't entirely blame them. They're unfamiliar with Wiki's way of doing things, and are trying to defend the version of history as they understand it from their family history. With a history as complicated as ours, that's almost commendable. Except that it damages articles. haha. :D They've been messing with wikipedia a lot, actually. See "Dulay", for example (I don't want to link to the article from here)- an uncited mess full of original research and peacock terms. But I haven't the heart to fight them over it right now. Keeping the Lakan Dula article orthodox is hard enough. Besides, as you well know, I've made well-meaning errors myself before, and have had to shift positions when the citations prove me wrong. The only problem with them is that they insist on their interpretation of the sources! hehe. If they could give me verifiable, reliable, non-fringe sources, I would gladly add their theories to the page myself. (Except, of course, that as far as I can tell, theirs IS a fringe theory. Hm.) - Alternativity (talk) 07:11, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
- Heya! :D Any chance I could convince you to put a Template:Requested_move tag on the article? Towards the redirect page "Lakandula"? He is sometimes erroneously referred to as Rajah Lakandula, but the terms "Rajah" and "Lakan" have the same meaning, making the use of both "Rajah" and "Lakandula" at the same time redundant. Or do your Admin privileges allow you to make the move yourself? :D Hehe. Just wondering. Also, is there a way to sue for the removal of the personal attacks on the talk page? Hehe. Seeing them gets in the way of any work I wanna do on that article. :S - Alternativity (talk) 02:28, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

ANI report
Thanks for your advice re: WP:ANI. I reported the latest incident (although not directed explicitly at me this time) at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#Repeated_personal_attacks_and_fringe_theory_pushing_at_talk:Rajah_Lakan_Dula_and_Lakandula_related_pages. - I hope that it would stop the damage.--Lenticel (talk) 07:11, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi. What does it mean if the report at wp:ANI got archived? It never got a response and is now at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive747#Repeated_personal_attacks_and_fringe_theory_pushing_at_talk:Rajah_Lakan_Dula_and_Lakandula_related_pages. Perhaps the move affected it? Also, I've been thinking of whether I should reiterate WP:NOTOPINION and Wikipedia:No_personal_attacks on the talk page? Or should I let someone else do that? - Alternativity (talk) 14:49, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah it happens, sometimes the ANI people probably had too many on their plates. Perhaps in the next incident you could re-file it and then link to the archived version so that they would know that the problem is still ongoing. I have to report my Bukidnon State University fiasco twice to get their attention (separate incidents though).--Lenticel (talk) 00:07, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

en dashes in category names
Hi,
Do you find the en dashes in category names a pain?[3] I've switched over the names of many of the language-family articles (from hyphens to dashes), but I don't know how we expect people to add categories when they have to type an en dash and can't, or don't know they need to. With the MOS, we've made it clear that this is just a formatting issue, that no-one should have to use them. I've asked to have these categories moved back; would you support that? — kwami (talk) 07:50, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah it's a problem especially since HotCat can't detect it. Is there an RfC or a Cfd for this? --Lenticel (talk) 00:47, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Taxobox
Hi, Lenticel! Thanks for adding a taxobox and cleaning up Stelechocarpus burahol. May I ask, though, if you had copied and pasted the taxobox code from somewhere, where did you source it from? At WP:PLANTS we're trying to rid the taxoboxen of the severely outdated Tracheophyta and less-but-still-outdated Magnoliopsida in favor of the APG III system. We've switched most of the plant taxoboxen, but if there's a source being copied that still uses Tracheophyta, I'd like to identify and change it to reflect consensus. If you didn't C&P from somewhere, just know, then, that the APG III system is the preferred system of higher classification :-) Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 14:43, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I copied the taxobox from my older plant article Muntingia. I forgot where I got the taxobox for that article though since I made it 6 years ago. If there's a new classification scheme for WP:PLANTS then feel free to post an article that I can copy the taxobox from here (The Muntingia article would be nice :) ).--Lenticel (talk) 00:55, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
- Well, curiously, the Muntingia article has the updated APG III classification, and has since Hesperian updated it several years ago. And before that it didn't include Tracheophyta. So if you had copied it, the correct APG III classification should have come along for the ride. It's a minor point, but we're striving for consistency. The best course of action when you encounter a plant article without a taxobox is to go to the article one taxon above it (for species, go to the genus article; for genus, go to the family article or subfamily). It is, in all likelihood, going to have the correct classification. WP:TX has the updated taxobox examples, which includes "Angiosperms" for the division instead of Tracheophyta or Magnoliophyta. Regardless, I believe we answered my original question in that there's no central location from which Tracheophyta is making its way back into taxoboxen. Thanks for the assistance :-) Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 16:53, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
Spotware
Hi Lenticel, please can you explain why Spotware page was deleted? It was originally under cTrader but has been edited. The only complaint against it was not enough primary sources and those have now been added. The information is factual not promotional.
Many Thanks Forextrader2011 (talk) 11:02, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
- It was speedy deleted because it was a recreation of the material deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Spotware Systems Ltd not Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/CTrader. Notability is also can be verified through third party sources not primary sources.--Lenticel (talk) 00:53, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Sorry but I still don't understand/ What do I need to do to get it accepted? I don't think there is anything wrong with the material and in this forex space could sight many examples not as thorough as this one that have not been deleted.

Cultural depictions of spiders
Hello!
As I'm sure you've noticed, I did a lot-o'-stuff to the Cultural depictions of spiders article. You seem to be a major contributor to it's original content, so I thought you might want to comment on the changes, make suggestions, etc. Actually, I didn't originally intend to do a major overhaul. At first I simply moved a couple of "urban legend" items from the Huntsman spider article because there was a consensus that it really didn't belong there. After creating the Modern myths and urban legends section, I moved appropriate items from other sections, and found a couple of additions to fill out that section. - That was all I originally intended to do. Then, after reading the article, I could tell that it was a "good article" (a few years ago), and had a lot of interesting information, but had become disorganized from "too many chefs" over the years. I simply thought I'd sort things out into a logical sequence and do a little re-organizing, in the hopes of restoring it to a truly "GA" again. Well, ...
...I kept finding interesting stuff to add, and one thing leads to another... —I hope you don't mind my doing such a major job of messing with the article. Feel free to change/remove anything that I've done. Some things I hoped to accomplish:
- Organize things with some sort of underlying structure and logical sequence. Perhaps the Myth/folklore section could be broken down into regional sub-sections, but I'm not sure — I tried this out in draft form, but wasn't satisfied with it.
- Have some semblance of a narrative thread (pardon the pun) to prevent it from becoming simply a list of examples; and have various parts relate to each other whenever possible. I believe I did only an okay job at this, it could be improved.
- Give it a globally balanced, multicultural perspective. For the most part, this was easy. You can pick just about any region or culture, and find significant associations with spiders. The biggest problem is "how much is too much?" — You can just about pick any or region or even individual island at random, and find something. Oddly though, I can't seem to find much from central Asia (China, Tibet, etc.) - "Indra's Net" was about the only significant thing I could find.
- The Philosophy section was almost unintentional. There was the bit about Vedric philosophy just sort of hanging out by itself, so I thought I'd find other stuff to go with it. This section could be expanded, but I'm not sure if it should, at least not much. There is stuff from Nietzsche, Hofstadter, etc., that could be added.
I'm at least 90% done with what I hope to accomplish with this article. I hope my efforts meet with your approval. Please don't worry about offending me if you think some things should be changed, or wish to undo stuff. This post is already too verbose, so I'll sign off. There are items that need to be addressed, but I'll discuss them later. ~Thanks, ~Eric F 74.60.29.141 (talk) 20:57, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
- I really appreciate what you have done with the article Eric. Keep up the good work! Perhaps one day we could even make the article an FA. By the way, if you wish for a more challenging article, you might want to have a go with Cultural depictions of elephants --Lenticel (talk) 01:16, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
- I see what you mean about the article - it is essentially a list of examples without any underlying narrative to encourage reading the entire article. Unfortunately, my To-Do list grows faster than I can keep up with, but I'll see what I can do - eventually. ~Eric F:74.60.29.141 (talk) 09:36, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Cultural depictions of elephants
There is a poster image uploaded to a Picasa album that could be useful, (iconic depiction of a Circus Elephant). I don't have upload privileges, and believe there should not be copyright issues. "Big Bingo" was with Ringling Bros 1896—1918, so the poster was presumably made during that time. See also, "Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus". I did some minor correction to the poster image - also uploaded is a photo that might be useful: an antique Circus Wagon depicting an elephant. My minor crop version, from Library of Congress Archive; (image info:[4]), with "No known restrictions on publication". There are other images that you might want to check out in this archive gallery:[5]. There is another interesting poster depicting an elephant "band" - but the one that I uploaded to Picasa is more iconic, and features a single elephant. Also, I uploaded my "quality upgrade" version of an interesting 19th century Japanese woodcut engraving from Library of Congress. Details:[6] - This might be an example of variation of "White Elephant" story.

Poster: [9]& Print: [10] - Google drive:

~Let me know if you might be interested in uploading either of these, ~thanks, ~Eric F Last modified:74.60.29.141 (talk) 11:38, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
- The new images are really interesting :) We need to add some cites about circus elephants since it is an integral part of cultural depictions. Then we could add the circus pics for flavor.--Lenticel (talk) 01:15, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

I have a draft on my computer that needs work before adding. Suggestions welcome! ~Thanks for all you've done, ~Eric F 74.60.29.141 (talk) 05:55, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

For expanding the Vanilla ice cream article from this to this. Normally expanding a single article like that wouldn't warrant a barnstar, but that's a pretty important article. Probably more impotent then the vast majority of our articles. It's pretty embarrassing that it took until 2013 for us to have a vanilla ice cream article. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000.
