It looks like we're both working on this at the same time, so I'll back off, as you are making fantastic progress filling out the article. However, there is one fact that is a bit scrambled in the history section. When discussing the plan for a community of 50,000 people, your wording is a bit off, because it implies that the plan was for a city of 50,000 in 1964, not that the plan was developed in 1964. (grin) The city didn't top 50,000 until 1983. There was a big article in the Coral Springs Forum when that occurred. Horologium t-c 03:35, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi! Thanks for your kind words. Please feel free to change anything in the article, the wording is my weak point :-). I am adding stuff as I go - I had some notes here. Do you have any nice pictures? I found out that my pictures are not very "wikipedia friendly".Legionarius 04:10, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I don't have any pictures, as I moved away from Coral Springs in 1986, shortly after I graduated. My father still lives in Broward County, but he doesn't have a camera (digital or otherwise) to create some. And I see you nicely reworded the section in question. For the history of the city, make sure to take a look at the city history .PDF on the city's website. It's pretty comprehensive, although it doesn't cover the present or immediate past. BTW, you might want to make note of the fact that the Covered Bridge is the only covered bridge on a public right-of-way in the entire state. (That is mentioned in the history, and there is a not-so-clear picture of the historical marker next to the bridge. The text of that marker might be an interesting factoid; A picture of the marker with the text legible could make a nice addition to the article. You also might want to mention the city's blue-chip bond ratings, and the two Sterling Award wins; the city has been extremely well-run over the years. Horologium t-c 04:27, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Excellent ideas. I am trying to put everything together, and will go back to improving those areas of the article. Thanks!Legionarius 04:32, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

(Outdent)You have referenced that FIU and BCC have established programs with one of the charter schools for college credit. With which school or schools are they affiliated? A reference would be a good thing for that.
Same thing with the four water providers; I couldn't find a lot of documentation about the issue, although I didn't do much digging. When I last lived in the city, there was only one water service, the one operated by the city, although the city was half the size it is now.
I'm going to move all of the schools to a list page, where we can arrange them and include the information about the three Parkland schools. The Manual of Style prefers prose instead of long lists of links, and that list is a bit unwieldy. I'll leave the introductory paragaphs in place, though; they are informative. Horologium t-c 20:08, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- I added the missing Cites. I think we are almost there with this article.Legionarius 20:42, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- I guess the article is pretty much done. Maybe some extra prose on Economics & history, or Cityscape. I appreciate your help on copyediting - not being a native speaker makes things more complicated.Legionarius 02:23, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- I went through and did a big copy-edit on the whole article, and reworded and massively sourced the introduction. This article has gone from seriously undersourced to extremely well-sourced over the past three days. The history section still needs some work; it seems to drop off rather abruptly after 1965, which is when development of the city actually started. (The first non-Coral Ridge Properties employee resident moved in in 1965.) Outside of that, the article looks fairly decent, although there are a lot of redlinks to build up. I think that the peer reviews you have requested will give this article a decent rating, considering it is currently rated as a stub.
- I noticed your tendency to slightly overuse articles ("the", in particular); are you Filipino, by any chance? And trust me, your English is a lot better than that of some of the alleged native speakers of the language. (grin) Horologium t-c 05:03, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- I guess my worst area is the in-at-the-an part :-).Writing articles is a good way to learn. I removed Paul Vance, mostly because it would be very hard to be maintaining famous residents (the others are all natives) and they are not that famous either. What do you think?
- I will try to build up the history today.

- I think NOW the fact gathering part is definitely over. Based on Dr.Cash's recommendations, I made a small write-up in my Sandbox, based in a WP:FA. What do you think?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Legionarius/Sandbox#Lead Legionarius 23:06, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
(outdent)Heh. I checked my watchlist after spending an hour or two severely copy-editing the piece. It appears we both had a few misgivings about the location of the city ordinances, but we came up with different ideas on where to move them. I went and moved it into the city history section, because the stringent ordinances were set up under the guidance of Coral Ridge Properties. Without their input, it is quite possible that they never would have been enacted. I also restructured the article to more closely conform to the template suggested at Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities, and provided a few more links to beef up the lighter sections of the article. Take a look at what I came up with and let me know what you think. Horologium t-c 00:54, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Cool for me:-) Now I think you definitely are the man to take this on - I do not think I can take it up to the next level without some help on the writing part.
- Besides that, on the WP:GA list...
1. well, you can say that better than me. We have all the recommended sections, AFAIK. 2. I think we pass this with flying colors. 3. I think we are fairly there. Maybe reduce a bit on the lead section regarding the history of Coral Ridge properties, and outline how big/rich/poor the city is comparing to the others in the state. Maybe a little less factual data. But that's me :-) 4. There's not much to discuss. 5. it probably will be stable after this huge overhaul. 6. I think we are ok with the images, since CS does not have many focal points. Maybe once the one charter place gets done, or a drawing of the final product... Maybe add one to the history section, the Johnny Carson on the stage? Or that one from 1978?
On another note, there are only three redlinks, for the three elected politicians. I added stubs for Broward County Transit and for Paraíso, Costa Rica. Besides that, I think that the only thing that can be added is that the CS forum is published since 1971 and was acquired by the Sun Sentinel and all the middle and elementary schools got an A in 2006, while the HS got a B. Ramblewood Elementary got a Sterling award this year.
Let's go for a grade "A" :-)
Legionarius 02:49, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Do you have a cite for the school grades (rather than individual links to each of them, which would be quite unwieldy)? Coral Springs had a reputation for outstanding schools for many years, which was one of the factors that led to its rapid growth. (I don't have a cite for that statement, so it would qualify as WP:OR, even though it's true). I knew about Ramblewood Elementary's Stirling Award, and Coral Springs Charter School's run of A ratings, but I haven't checked on the other 20-something public, private, and charter schools in the city. You said "the" high school got a B. Which one? There's three of them...
- In the past, I had looked for data to work up a stub for the Forum, but I was not able to come up with enough to create an article that would survive an AfD. It's simply another local weekly paper, not terribly notable and not easy to find in Google. The odd thing is that the Sun-Sentinel is owned by the Tribune Company, but I cannot find any mention of the Forum at the Tribune Media website. (They don't have information on their weeklies, only for their larger properties.) As to the other local paper, I am not at all familiar with it; it probably started up after I left the area. For the politicians, I'm hlaf-tempted to delink all of the State reps and senators, even the one who has an article. They're not really notable, and I know that I, for one, am not going to expend the time and effort to create articles on them, when they could be nominated for AfD at any time. (Nelson and Martinez, OTOH, should remain linked; they are unquestionably notable.)
- I added the stuff on CRP in the lede to comply with the guidelines on Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities, where it is recommended that the lede briefly address the origins of the city. I avoided mentioning how wonderful the city is because I was being mindful of WP:Peacock, which recommends letting the sourced details explain why the city is special, rather than use empty superlatives and filler. We don't want to sound like the Chamber of Commerce or the city's tourism board... (grin) Horologium t-c 04:06, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Good. Here we go:
For the newspaper, this asserts that it belongs to Sun Sentinel: [1]. And you can try to get a $25 dining certificate :-)
For the schools, this link gets them all: [2] (Excel)
About the link to the politicians... well, if the articles are there, I think we can keep them. I will be watching all the articles linked from CS.
I like explaining that the city was built by CRP, but I would keep the explanation of what the heck happened to them for the history part. Another thing that I think makes some sense is that the city took their name from the company. Just my .02. Another grip I had is that maybe it is not necessary to say that the Census got the pop number, since it is referenced. As you can see, I am trying to keep the lead straight to the point :-). I like the tone of the entire article, though. Even being overwhelmingly positive, there is not much to complain in factual terms. The only things that can be said is that there is a 108% school overcrowding and that the police is projecting a slightly bigger crime rate for 2k7. The first may be not significant, since I do not know how good/bad it is in other cities and the crime spike is small and not an RS (in this particular case).
I searched the news for some criticism, and came back with the nothing. The only person who is really vocal against the city looks to be the owner of coralsprings.com.
A couple of interesting links:
some photos that can be used
WCi buying Bay that bought CR properties good for sourcing.
I hope nobody disputes the "distinctive" on the lead.
Legionarius 04:28, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- I pared out the information about Westinghouse, because I never did work in the Electra Lab angle (Westinghouse bought CRP in order to build electric showplace homes; two of those houses were built in Electra Lab, near the charter school; the third and final one was built in Kenilworth, in the Ramblewood subdivision.) I think we need to maintain the reference to WCI because there is no article on CRP, but there is one for WCI.
- Every article I have seen uses the verbose citation about US Census data, even if there is a link to a census page; I kept it because it's consistent.
- The crime rate is FAR below the norm for Broward County or Florida; of the nine cities with lower crime rates in that Morgan Quitno report, only three of them are more populous than Coral Springs. Since crime dropped 17% over the last year, a small spike is not going to make much of a difference. As for the school overcrowding, CSHS has about 2400 students this year; when I was a senior in 1986, we had 2751, so crowding is not too bad. As for coralsprings.com, the guy who runs it is a crank, and that site is not updated very often. (Take a look at the dates on the "articles" on the front page.)
- I don't think we will be able to use those photos, because there is no clear copyright info on them, and they are not irreplaceable photos.
- I worry a bit about "distinctive", but it's less of a peacock word than "Unique", which is what it replaced. (!) Horologium t-c 05:16, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
I liked the new lead a lot! Just to show you the article I said I thought was good, it is Louisville.
Anyway - I don't think I have anything to add besides what we discussed. Do you plan to nominate it for GA?Legionarius 15:08, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I am going to go through and standardize all of the references, and then I will submit it. I'll let you know here when I do. Horologium t-c 15:36, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I finished scrubbing the links, did a last copy-edit, and sent it off to the GA nominations page. Let's see what the reviewers say. Horologium t-c 01:02, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
That was a lot of har work. I will keep an eye on it.What's next, are you eying something? If you liked our partnership, of course :-)--Legionarius 02:06, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I'm been tweaking Fort Lauderdale, Florida as well. (I've actually done more work on that article than I had on Coral Springs, because there was more article with which to work, and more people who at least occasionally contributed.) Fort Lauderdale needs a stub for William Cooley, and some cleaning out of chaff before I submit it for a reassessment. There are two broken links that I have asked the contributor to fix (the same guy who added the language links to Coral Springs), and way too many sites of interest. I am probably going to create a list of museums and link it in to the main article, like I did with the schools in Coral Springs.
- I've also been going through the Regions of Florida section and adjusting some of them; some people have the strangest ideas about which cities belong in each region... (grin) If you want to work on more Florida-related stuff, join Wikipedia:WikiProject Florida, which can always use active editors. I've already posted about the GA nomination of Coral Springs, so they know it's been upgraded. Horologium t-c 02:21, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
William Cooley
I am trying to copy edit, but I keep running into edit conflicts... :) Horologium t-c 04:40, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- I was able to use the back button on the browser to save my edits, which I have moved over to the article (from your sandbox). There is one glaring error--Cooley Hammock is in Fort Lauderdale, not 30 miles south of Jacksonville as indicated in the "arrival in Florida" section. Did something get scrambled during transcription?
- Ah, it is that damn article. I am fixing stuff as I go. The guy messed up people's names, places, etc.Legionarius 16:20, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I went through and did a big copy-edit. I removed a couple of sections where the sentence structure didn't make sense, or where there was no reference. I also changed the date of birth/date of death parenthetical (Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Dates of birth and death specifically states to incorporate places into the biographical portion of the article. I added four categories (Category:American pioneers, Category:People of the Seminole Wars, Category:Florida politicians and Category:Fort Lauderdale, Florida). I also tied it to WikiProject Florida and Wikiproject Biography. Horologium t-c 04:01, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Legionarius. I nominated William Cooley to appear on the Main Page under the Did you know... section. The nomination appears here. There is a five day from creation window for DYK nominations, so I wanted to make sure it was in the cue. Please feel free to revise the nomination hook as you see fit. Great job on the article. -- Jreferee (Talk) 08:18, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Your rewording on the "3 days later -> 3 days after that" was a good call; we don't need two laters in two sentences. :) I am going to use that New Times Broward-Palm Beach piece to add two more variations to his name at the beginning of the article. (Spelling was still rather arbitrary among the semi-educated at that point; who knows how many other variations came from careless clerks mangling a name?) Horologium t-c 03:43, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
At least the lead is getting bigger:-). Look, I got an email from a descendant of William Cooley - she is telling me that his daughter from a previous marriage was in the New River settlement. It is true she was called Cooley before getting married and she is in Monroe County in 1830. The sources look to be a Tampa newspaper and the Territorial Papers of Florida. Unfortunately I could not find anything online. Maybe I will stop by a library this week. Stupid question: Is it "a 170-mile corridor", "a 170 miles corridor" or "a 170 mile corridor"?Legionarius 04:01, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- How did you hear from Cooley's descendent? That's pretty awesome...
- As for you question...hmmm. Definitely not 170 miles. I'd go with the hyphenated version, as it is an adjective in this case, modifying the subject (corridor), and both parts are needed, indicating a compound word of sorts. I don't know if that is grammatically sound, but it's the reasoning I'd use. Horologium t-c 04:26, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
This Fannie lady supposedly had a son called William Cooley Mathews. Now this is something. She left a will somewhere. I will change the corridor in the article.--Legionarius 04:38, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Coral Springs GA nomination
The article passed after the revision; it is now a good article. Congrats! Horologium t-c 22:07, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- For you too! Now I wander how we can go to FA. I can bring a bit more data on Economy, Media and Infrastructure. Maybe education.--Legionarius 23:24, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
William Cooley GA? (copied from here)
That's VERY flattering. Thanks for you support!--Legionarius 16:53, 24 June 2007 (UTC) BTW, what do you consider it would be necessary to bring this article to GA, please?Legionarius 19:32, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Your article is a really great first effort. GA is a big deal and FA is even a bigger deal and more or less the end goal of an article. To move it past GA and FA, it is likely that you will need to use information from the one to three top sources on William Cooley (which probably means a trip to the library to grab a book or two). There are some basic things missing from your article. I would suggest running through the WikiProject Biography 11 easy steps to producing at least a B article to ensure you have the remaining few things that usually are part of a B biography article and as a good way to teach yourself how to develop a Wikipedia biography article. I would also reformat your footnotes to be more consistent with one at Wikipedia:Footnotes. There are many styles. I like to use Last, First. (date) [[Source]] ''[URL|URL title.]'' Section; Page. (Obtained date). Part of the GA and FA process may involve reducing and rearranging the article. Thus, at the B level, you want to include as much as you believe reasonable in the article so that it may be arranged and reduced. It is much easier to remove material from an article then to conceive of adding it in the first place. At the B level, I also would suggest putting a footnote after each sentence (except for the lead paragraph) so that others know where the information came from. Once you do all this, I would suggest revising the article to meet Wikipedia:What is a good article?. Once you think you have a GA article, you may want to compare it with a few U.S. pioneer articles at Wikipedia:Featured articles and incorporate what you learn from the style of those articles into your own. You then may want to list it for Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Peer review|Peer review.]] On completing peer review, I then would suggest seeking GA status and ultimately FA status. -- Jreferee (Talk) 22:11, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
For more information on the topic, you might want to email Helen Landers, Broward County Historian and let her know what you are doing. Her email is at Broward County - Historical Commission. If there is an image of William Cooley, she should know were to find it. -- Jreferee (Talk) 00:14, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you. A bad sign is that there are not pictures of him in the articles prepared by scholars of this same institute.--Legionarius 00:23, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
History of Fort Lauderdale
Hi. I have a new project I am working on in my sandbox that will eventually be entitled History of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, that will be a seealso link from the Fort Lauderdale, Florida mainpage. It will also be the basis of a condensed section on that page, replacing the factually inaccurate and content-deficient section that is currently there. Since one section (1820-1892) will be heavily based on your article on William Cooley, I wanted you to be aware of it. I'd ask that you not edit it until I am ready, but it is available for viewing at User:Horologium/Sandbox. Use the sandbox discussion page if you have any comments on it. Horologium t-c 04:24, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Excellent. I am cleaning up the Cooley article. Nothing major is going to change - I guess I added the last two sources today. All the other sources related to that come from newspaper articles, and they are covered in the secondary sources. Do you plan to submit for peer review on the wikiproject biography?Just asking b/c I saw you talking about it w/Jreferee, but was not sure if you were going to submit or not, and I do not want to "cut off" :-)--Legionarius 04:28, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- I am planning to wait until the end of the week for the WP Florida peer edit; if there is no movement, I'll go ahead and submit it to WP biography. Horologium t-c 18:17, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Notability of Jim Naugle
A tag has been placed on Jim Naugle, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --Finngall talk 23:19, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- I've already left a note on his page squawking about the tag, but this is one of the reasons why using the preview function and adding more with each edit is a good idea. It's better to edit in chunks, using the "preview" function to check your work, than to add a sentence or two for each save. It also reduces the number of edits to review when looking at the history of an article. Horologium t-c 23:35, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'm an admin, I examined the situation, I checked the article history, and I judge that - in this case - Finngall was in error. I've left him a helpful note. You did an acceptable job, Legionarius - the very first version pointed out that Naugle was mayor of Fort Lauderdale six times in a row. That's definite grounds for inclusion. DS 00:16, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I hit the wrong button and published :-) But I was asserting the notability, in my eyes. I guess it can be tagged as a stub, but not deleted. Thanks for your support!--Legionarius 00:25, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for saying "better" instead of "obsessive" :-D--Legionarius 15:22, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- (ROFL) I can be particularly single-minded (take a look at all of the smaller markets in List of radio stations in Florida, and look at the edit history), so I never find fault with those who go to the extra lengths necessary to do something right.
- On a related note, between the immediate CSD tagging of Jim Naugle, the immediate (uncited) tagging of Twistee Treat, which Cary Bass had just created, and the relatively quick (uncited) tagging of the famous residents list yesterday, it appears that the tag-and-run twits are out in full force. I'm all for applying appropriate tags, but not within an hour of their creation. Oy. Horologium t-c 15:37, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- LOL Look, I guess the Jim Naugle thing is done. Nearly everything that is published about him is criticizing, so I don't think I can include that without going POV.
About the tag, I just thing the guy made a mistake, since my first version already had the notability asserted. Legionarius 15:41, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, the dichotomy between his party affiliation and his actual views tends to irk the journalistic community in the area, and his attacks on the Sun-Sentinel haven't helped him much in the press. He's still popular with the voters, though, as his six electoral victories have shown. There are a couple of sources that you use that might not be terribly appropriate in that article; the second reference is a blog, and the seventh reference, while hosted on the Sun-Sentinel site, doesn't appear to be something written by the paper. It might be something from the Lifestyle section, or one of the paper's in-house blogs, but I don't think it's appropriate to cite a section entitled "Our mayors don't try to hide what scumbags they truly are" as a valid reference. Horologium t-c 15:53, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- The sources are valid, though. The blogs are hosted on Sun-Sentinel and New Times by staff members, and there is no criticism, just the factual part. The New Times' link is pretty good - it is a three-page interview full of facts. ABout the reprinted editorial part, I just used the list of accomplishments (he has a 8-page accomplishment ad-like list on his site).--Legionarius 15:57, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Jim Naugle
Hi Legionarius. You are off to such a great start on the article Jim Naugle that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. Appearing on the Main Page would help bring publicity and assistance to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. Again, great job on the article. -- Jreferee (Talk) 20:47, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi J-Ref, thank you so much! Unfortunately, there is not much more to add to the article, so I do not know how good it can be. I am waiting for Master copy-editor Horologium to review it as well. Hope my other article makes the DYK...--Legionarius 20:50, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, what the hell. I am nominating it.--Legionarius 03:15, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Golden Globes list
I noticed a handful of things:
- You should not try too hard hard to "shove" your global references into footnotes, as it obscures their status. It's fine to have them as a list.
- The new list has no categories (oops!)
- You'll need some footnotes for the years without nominees etc.
- The 1953-1958 entry should be "No award given.", not "Awards not given." for consistency.
- I'm not convinced you should list Oliver! Maybe the footnote should be placed at the year: "Oliver! was on the original ballot, but was declared ineligible." or something such.
- Also, there shouldn't be space before <ref> tags and punctuation.

- Thanks for the tips! I guess I fixed 2 to 5, but I am a little lost on (1). Could you please explain a bit more? And about (3), I am a little wary of putting 10 references for explaining the non-nominees, so I put a single reference to the index page. Not sure if it is acceptable.--Legionarius 18:05, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- re (1) What I like to do is something like the bottom of The Lady with a Fan (Velázquez) with "specific references" used as notes and "general references" for stuff not in notes.
- Re (3) I don't see the problem. That would cover only 1947, 48 and 59...
- Oh... and in both lists, remove duplicate links to the same individuals. I can,t believe I didn't notice that sooner... Circeus 18:14, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I am all against double Wikilinks, but I was thinking about this situation: you go to a specific year, you find "Elia kazan", but he is wikilinked before: then, or you go back to find the link, or you have to google him... I do not think it is very comfortable...what do you think? and... I changed the "external links" to "general references". The non-awards are 1953 TO 1959, that's why I was saying (about)10 references... the non nominees are referenced.--Legionarius 18:59, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- in-page search does wonders. And they can always type it in the address bar. If you have the same link twice next to each others, it gets a bit ridiculous. A single ref for 53 to 59 is okay, I was thinking about the years with winners. Circeus 19:15, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (Image:Coral Springs History Museum.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Coral Springs History Museum.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:43, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Ed Bruce
Thanks for asking me to look at the Ed Bruce article. I am currently very wrapped up with some stuff for the Smithsonian right now and have not been able to look at many wikipedia articles. I do like the fact that you put his discography on a subpage as it will give for easier reading. Ed's background and full discography is complex as his career has had so many ups and downs. When his career is up, it is really up and it is hard to manage his discography charting because of the multitude of charts available. I think if we were to submit this for article review, we would want to only go by Billboard charts. They are the most reliable and easiest to cite. As soon as I can get a few minutes free I will go in and see what I can do to work on this with you. I think you did a very nice job so far. I would just need to check the validity of some of them. Thanks Junebug52 11:29, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- You are very kind. I used the same sources you had in the main article, so now it is a matter of ironing it up.--Legionarius 11:32, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
I finally got it done and moved it onto the article space. I have even MORE respect for the work you did on William Cooley after slogging through all the references I needed for that piece. Horologium t-c 01:21, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

- What kind of picture are you looking for?--Legionarius 02:02, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- Historical photos of the area would be nice, preferably something that is representative of the area and not copyrighted. I haven't gone digging through the Florida photo archive at www.myflorida.gov yet, but I think that might be a source. I just wanted to get this article up; it's a lot easier to fix problems with other people poking and prodding it. I'm a little too intimately involved to be able to view it objectively right now. Stranahan + Seminoles Stranahan House Stranahan House 1912
Image:William_Cooley_Armed_Occupation_Act.png Hi. re the above mentioned image, if it's Public Domain had you considered uploading it to Wikimedia Commons, and putting the text of the act on Wikisource? ShakespeareFan00 13:53, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for uploading images/media such as Image:Stranahan Seminoles.jpg to Wikipedia! There is however another Wikimedia foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading media there instead. That way, all the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons. Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Thanks again, and please continue uploading!

Done with Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Okay, I finally finished Fort Lauderdale and sent it to Good Article Candidate review. Now that that is done for a little while, I'll get back to Coral Springs, as promised, and work on expanding the lede there. After that, I am going to take a machete to the Florida article, and do a massive and radical pruning job; I've got the support of at least one editor to prune that 98KB behemoth. Horologium t-c 04:26, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- I am here for the fight, captain. Congrats on the FTL article! I plan to submit Cooley once I get his will. Meanwhile I am having fun with lists.--Legionarius 04:31, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- I did the expansion on Coral Springs, Florida. It's only a couple of paragraphs, but I actually sourced the additions, with bona fide reliable sources (US Census Bureau and US Geological Survey), so the article should qualify for "A" class (although I'm not sure that I would push for that; it actually has less visibility than a GA). I'm considering sending it up for FA status, although I am not sure if it will stand up to the meat-grinder of FA review, which is a lot worse than GA review or Featured List review. While the sources are good enough for GA, they might not qualify for an FA, because so much of it is published by the city itself. Horologium t-c 14:33, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- I would go for FA. Let's see what happens... :-)--Legionarius 17:42, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of List of mammal species in Florida
List of mammal species in Florida, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that List of mammal species in Florida satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of mammal species in Florida and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of List of mammal species in Florida during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Rackabello 22:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Your GA nomination of William Cooley
The article William Cooley you nominated as a good article has passed , see Talk:William Cooley for eventual comments about the article. Well done! MrPrada 08:58, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
Your GA nomination of Jim Naugle
The article Jim Naugle you nominated as a good article has failed , see Talk:Jim Naugle for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of said article. If you oppose this decision, you may ask for a review. MrPrada 03:09, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
The only things I can think of are that some of the language ("taking his side", for example) might be questioned. However, i should rush to point out that I have yet to be involved in very many FA discussions, so your guess is probably as good as mine. Maybe adding a few more links to existing articles as well, but I don't know of any other articles out there to link to. John Carter 17:01, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- You could always try peer review as well. That would get (with any luck) several reviewers looking at it, and maybe a few more qualified eyes suggestiong possible changes. John Carter 17:19, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Imperial Triple Crown nomination
Legionarius, you have been nominated for an Imperial Triple Crown Jewel (two triple crown awards.)
You shouldn't have to do anything, as I notified Durova with all of the relevant information on her talk page.
Keep up the good work. Horologium t-c 13:19, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

FL Main page proposal
You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination recently. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual content will resemble the current content at the featured content page. Such output would probably start at the bottom of the main page. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 18:58, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Vandal-fighting
Thank you for your deletion of vandalism (or, at least, a totally misplace posting) at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. However, removing the inappropriate content did not restore the page to what it was before, because the editor who damaged the page had overwritten information on the page.
In the future, please repair vandalism and page damage by reverting. If you're unfamiliar with the concept, you may find Wikipedia:How to read an article history to be useful. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 20:01, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
LOTD proposal
You either voted on the original list of the day proposal or the revised version. A more modest experimental proposal is now at issue at WP:LOTDP. Feel free to voice your opinion.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 17:34, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Featured List of the Day Experiment
I am contacting individuals in the order of the number of featured lists that they had created by Novemeber 10, 2007. You have created several. So you are among the first. There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:04, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
possible FL candidate
Since you have a little experience with Featured Lists </understatement>, could you take a look at List of Florida state symbols and tell me if it's a credible candidate for Featured List status? It got a DYK mention today, and it's fairly comprehensive, really well-referenced, and has pictures for just about each entry on the list (the only ones without pictures are the state motto and state nickname, which probably don't need pictures in any case...) Horologium t-c 22:31, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Horologium! Looks very good to me. Personally, I would add small write-ups with more detail about the symbol itself (i.e., a version of the first paragraph from each individual symbol), and/or detail on why/how they were chosen. I like to make lists sortable/colorful and adding a little write-up for each section is something I think enriches the list as well. Btw, happy TG!

Pie | Key lime pie |
2006[1] | Key lime pie is a dessert made of key lime juice, egg yolks, and sweetened condensed milk in a pie crust. The pie is topped with meringue, then baked until the meringue is a golden brown. The pie was chosen because the key lime is typical of Florida, invented in FL, etc., won a secret ballot voting competing with the Glazed Manatee Pie. |
Spiffier triple crown, new awards available
Hi, I've been sprucing up the triple crown awards. Here's the new version of the imperial triple crown jewels you've already earned. Feel free to replace your old one with this if you like the new version better. I've also introduced two new triple crown awards for editors who've done a lot of triple crown work: the Napoleonic and Alexander the Great edition awards. If you're active in a WikiProject, check out the new offer for custom WikiProject triple crowns. I'll make those upon request if five or more editors qualify. See User:Durova/Triple crown winner's circle for more information. Thanks for your hard work, and cheers! DurovaCharge! 22:15, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
LOTD experiment
My userpage List of the Day experiment is getting under way at WP:LOTD. One of your lists has been nominated. I invite you to come by and represent it. If you would like to represent your list article please reformat your username in the table so it is normal sized. Among the things you may want to do to represent your list are:
- Change the image selection
- Add talk page projects to the list and then add them on the summary table
- Write a summary of the article in less than 500 characters. I will begin doing this later today for those who don't do it themselves.
- Participate in the feed back process when it starts on December 1.
- Participate in the voting when it starts on December 11.
You are free to remain uninvolved. Your list was chosen as being the first one produced by one of the most prolific successful FL nominators.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 18:57, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for nominating a candidate at WP:LOTD. You may want to come by and address some of the feedback you have received before voting begins, which it will in less than 24 hours.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 00:37, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- I am surprised at the number of people who have nominated candidates and participated in feedback, but have not voted. If I had made voting mandatory, would it have kept you from nominating an article?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 17:12, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Your recent linkspam edits
I notice a lot of your edits dated 18 December 2007 to various Arthur Clarke articles that delete all external links claiming they are linkspam.
Please note that a lot of these articles were created by me, & the link to Arthur Clarke Fansite was simply a form of acknowledgment - that I was the author. Even where I am not the original creator, there are often major contributions by me on several articles.
I maintain that site as a hobby, & mostly to avoid massive edits by others if I were to write story summaries at Wikipedia.
If you do not think it is right to acknowledge the contributors, please remove the entire article where I am the principle contributor & original creator - rather than just the acknowledgment link.
Thank you.

Your "linkspam" removal from Traffic
Summary wholesale deletion of an entire section is not being bold, it is being autocratic. Reverting an unwarranted deletion done without consensus does not itself require consensus. It is evident from your contribs page that you are on some kind of a mission to delete what you personally consider "linkspam". I fear your personal definition of the term is rather wider than accepted standards on Wikipedia; please take a few minutes to read and understand the relevant provisions.--Scheinwerfermann (talk) 04:20, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
LOTD congratulations
Congratulations!!! List of wild mammal species in Florida has been chosen in the inaugural class of January 2008 LOTDs. I hope you will continue to participate in the WP:LOTD process. If you have a date preference get back to me by the end of 2007-12-23 UTC.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 06:38, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Your 18 Dec 07 linkspam edits
I have restored external links dropped by you from most Clarke story articles - except where they really are spam. When dropping them, at least follow them to see if they indeed are spam.
Tinkoo (talk) 13:14, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- I have deleted them again. Please review the policies and guidelines linked to directly and indirectly on the message I left on the Tinktoo talk page. Links to fansite reviews are inherently spam, particularly fansites created by the person inserting the links. Even links to the Arthur C Clarke Foundation are not really appropriate for individual short stories written by Clarke - perhaps on his main bio page and/or the article about the foundation. You (Tinktoo) added inappropriate links to 20-30 articles. Given that 90-100% of the material is inappropriate there is no way I am going to review each one to see if there is any salvageable content. I know you're just trying to help the encyclopedia. But in the future, if you face strong opposition to any of your edits on Wikipedia could you please first take some time to review policies and guidelines to see if you might be wrong before turning this into a contest of will with another editor? Thanks, Wikidemo (talk) 17:05, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Chita
Hello,
I appreciate the valuable work you do for Wikipedia, but I have a question regarding the 'Chita, Russia' page. I lived in Chita for sixteen months, wrote about it and placed my musings online (not for commercial purposes but for anyone to read). For months I linked this to the 'Chita, Russia' and 'Siberia' pages on Wikipedia and received tens of hits from those sources every week, plus some positive guestbook feedback. I chose to link (only) from Wikipedia because I reasoned that those seeking knowledge about Chita and Siberia would be among those who would most value my writings.
Recently, links to both have been removed, so I edited them back in, only to see them removed for being 'Too narrow in scope'. Disappointing as this is, I can accept that writing about life in Chita may be too narrow for the 'Siberia' page, but how is it too narrow for a page about Chita? So many people ask me what it was like to live in Siberia, which is one of the reasons I put up my site, and I'm sure many visitors to these two pages would find my content interesting. I don't profit personally from visitors. Can you explain why my site is not permitted as a link from Wikipedia please?
Thanks
SiberianSpireite —Preceding unsigned comment added by SiberianSpireite (talk • contribs) 21:59, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi James! Please do not take it personally. The guidelines in WP:EL disencourage linking to "to blogs and personal web pages, except those written by a recognized authority" and "sites that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article". Although your account is perfectly enjoyable and an interesting read, the link fails the two conditions mentioned and talk about only a little part of all the aspects that should be covered in an article about Chita/Siberia. If you disagree with my evaluation, please copy/paste your question in Wikipedia talk:External links for additional input from other editors.--Legionarius (talk) 03:49, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Side comment
Hi Legionarius.... I posted this message to Ezhiki and though he seems to be in favour of permitting my link (the source of 90% of the traffic into my site- I deliberately targeted what I thought would be an interested, appreciative audience)- he has referred me back to you. So here's the message........
Thanks for your considered responses. I appreciate why my link was removed from the Siberia page but, regarding the 'Chita, Russia' page would disagree that my site does not meet the condition "sites that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article". Surely many Wikipedia users visit the Chita page in order to seek information about the city: I would argue that my book provides this in abundance, arguably beyond what a 'Featured article' may be able to encompass. I appreciate the work you both do and remain a huge fan of Wikipedia. Of course, I would like to see the link restored for personal reasons but I also strongly believe that the quantity and quality of information I placed into my book- ie virtually everything I had gleaned about Chita whilst living there for sixteen months- is a resource which would be appreciated by Wikipedia users and, I hope, encourage people to develop a more accurate view of Siberian life and perhaps even a desire to visit Chita.-- comment added by SiberianSpireite (talk)

"routinely removing external links"
I have reverted your indiscriminate deletions of external links from Alan Moore and Buddhist art. WP:EL, which you cite in your edit summary, does not mandate the removal of useful links, much less what you've admitted on my talk page as "routinely removing external links". It's perilously close to vandalism. Stop doing it. Nicknack009 (talk) 18:46, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:BCT Logo.png)
Thanks for uploading Image:BCT Logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. NotifyBot (talk) 12:52, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

William Cooley is in Russian Wikipedia
Just thought you might be interested to see it got translated (more or less) into its first foreign language wiki. It looks like it may be up for deletion, although somebody is expanding the article. (I don't speak Russian, so I am not sure of the tag on top of the article.)
Horologium (talk) 15:29, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Image:Fort Lauderdale - Las Olas Blvd.jpg
A tag has been placed on Image:Fort Lauderdale - Las Olas Blvd.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [3], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Fort Lauderdale - Las Olas Blvd.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Polly (Parrot) 15:48, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Legionarius, I have been looking at ("sweeping", if you will) Featured lists that were promoted some time ago. I happened upon Golden Globe Award for Best Director – Motion Picture, and saw that while it is quite good, it does not quite meet current standards. Rather than immediately list the article for FLRC, I would prefer to hold an informal review on the article's talk page. If you are interested and have the time, I would be more than happy to list things that need to be fixed on the article's talk page. Please contact me at my talk page. Regards, Dabomb87 (talk) 01:13, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
