New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

[edit]

Hello LM2000,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Scarlett

[edit]

Hi, LM2000. Can you help me? Some months ago, I wrote the character section for Scarlett Bordeaux, using her social media and some interviews for the description. however, an user removed.Since you helped me with the Cornette section, do you think you can re-write the section in a way where it's encyclopedic? Here is a version with my section. [1] Thank you --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 23:08, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Russo/cornette

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for helping with the Russo Cornette section. I started the Drak Side of the Ring and both argued in the Montreal Screwjob episode. Maybe you can include it. Russo thinks Cornette style is to 60s and Jim think Russo has no respect for wrestling. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 14:57, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I started watching at the end of season one, so I missed that, but I see some sources covered the episode. I removed a claim that said Russo was involved in Cornette leaving WWF's writing team in the 90s though, do you know where I can find a source for that.LM2000 (talk) 21:58, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean Russo left WWF because of Cornette? Or Cornette left WWF because of Russo?Anyway, maybe I can find something in wrestlinginc. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 14:09, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
this edit said Cornette left the WWF writing team after conflicts with Russo. It wasn't sourced so I removed it but it may be true. I couldn't find anything reliable.LM2000 (talk) 18:22, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I made a quick search. I found that Cornette left the commitee after attacking/insulting Kevin Dunn. [2] --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 21:56, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The article League of Nations (professional wrestling) you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:League of Nations (professional wrestling) for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. New Page Reviewer newsletter June 2020

[edit]

Hello LM2000,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Discussions and Resources
  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
  • Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.

Up for deletion again

[edit]

The Category:Professional wrestling jobbers is up for deletion again. Davidgoodheart (talk) 02:07, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category has been kept

[edit]

You probably know by now the Category:Professional wrestling jobbers has been kept. I have created a subcategory called Category:Professional wrestling jobbers to the stars to go with it. The reason for this is because "jobbers to the stars" differ greatly from regular jobbers. I have added Johnny Rodz and Koko B. Ware who are "jobbers to the stars" to it. If you know of anymore wrestlers who were "jobbers to the stars" please feel free to add them to the new subcategory. Davidgoodheart (talk) 01:33, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bull Dempsey

[edit]

Hello, LM. I have one question and I think you can help me. During the Speaking Out Movement, Bull Dempsey was accused and removed from his job in NYWC promotion. I included the info with a source (411mania) but the information is always deleted by IPs. I don't know, looks suspicious, like some people trying to delete bad news. But, the last IP noticed that the promotion deleted the tweet. Do you think it's similar to James Ellsworth? Thanks --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 09:37, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

HHH Pedrigree, sorry for delayed response, I've been busy in my personal life lately. 411Mania is borderline reliable, but Fightful covered it with a passing mention. I think it's clear that James's suspension happened and that isn't a controversial claim. However, it looks like he has since been reinstated and sources haven't covered that story. If they had, I'd say we should include a short paragraph about his suspension and reinstatement, like we do with the Pat Patterson situation in the 90s. It's a tough call but in my opinion, BLP concerns favor omission of the entire story. Abuse claims should have a high bar and I don't think the coverage has enough depth to include at this point, especially since we may not be able to tell the whole story with the sources we have right now. But that's just my opinion.LM2000 (talk) 05:27, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. I was thinking the same since the promotion deleted the post and has no coverage after that. Thanks --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 14:38, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I have one more question. As you can see, I'm having problems with the Melina article. PWInsider confirmed she signed a contract with WWE. However, Melina denied the information. There is some kind of policy about this? PWInsider is a reliable, independent source. As you can read, PWInsider confirmed after talking with several sources, so doesn't look like a hoax or rumor, it's a confirmation. Melina denied, but pro wrestlers denies a lot of thing. Almost no wrestler confirm a contract with a promotion. PWInsider, in 2019, also confirmed WWE signed John Morrison. Morrison and his wife, Taya, denied the information but one month later, Morrison appeared in WWE. I think the information about Melina should stay since 1, PWInsider is a reliable source 2, PWInsider had similar news in the past and they were right 3, Melina is too involved with the information. 4, PWInsider calls it a confirmation, not a rumor. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 14:45, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you. If she never does appear for the company then it can be removed but I think it should stay for now.LM2000 (talk) 00:33, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol December Newsletter

[edit]

Hello LM2000,

A chart of the 2020 New Page Patrol Queue

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Rank Username Num reviews Log

10 Utopes (talk) 3,958 Patrol Page Curation
Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

Titanic task

[edit]

Hello,LM. How are you? As you know, I want to include reception and legacy section in pro wrestling articles. I have one in mind, but is huge, titanic, colossal... Vince McMahon legacy. As you know, McMahon is one of the most influential figures, as well as a plarized one. I think we have a lot of material, from the territory days, the mr mcmahon persona, the current booking 50/50 of their stars. Do you want to help me with this section? --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 16:59, 14 December 2020 (UTC) PD. Great. I think the following: Legacy about WWF becoming a national promotion and reception of other promoters at the time. The steroid scandal. Mr. McMahon character reception. Decrease of ratings since 2010. Booking 50/50. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 10:10, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

PG-Era

[edit]

Hello. I have seen you improved the PG-Era article. Maybe, I can help with two thing. One, on the internet is said that one of the reasons to change was the bleeding between Jericho and Michaels at GAB, but I can't find any source. Also, I remember a few name changes for the kid-friendly program. The FU was changed to Attitude Adjustment, the One Night Stand was changed to Extreme Rules. I don't remember if there are some other examples. BTW: Thanks for your edition on Vince's article :) --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 15:10, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
