Welcome to Wikipedia!

[edit]

Hello LLarson, welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alphax τεχ 3 July 2005 15:06 (UTC)

Assume good faith

[edit]

Please don't accuse people of racism (even "apparent racism") as you did on Hell Gate, Montana‎. You should assume good faith and merely make the change for clarification. - Tim1965 (talk) 17:55, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:08, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Rocio Urquijo, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Palm Beach (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

A page you started (William J. Jameson Law Library) has been reviewed!

[edit]

Thanks for creating William J. Jameson Law Library, LLarson!

Wikipedia editor Animalparty just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

I would recommend a reference that doesn't auto download a Word document? Doesn't seem very reliable, nor is it a needed secondary source.

To reply, leave a comment on Animalparty's talk page.

Learn more about page curation.

@Animalparty: Thank you for the assessment. I created the page after finding that Word document as a citation I used in the U.M. School of Law article, which had an unsourced 20,000 square feet (1,900 m2) figure (the source states it’s actually 20,060 square feet (1,864 m2)).
I, too, disprefer citations to Word documents and to unnecessary secondary sources. I likely wouldn’t have considered using it if it weren’t (i) published by a law school; (ii) published for compliance with American Bar Association regulations; and (iii) the only source I found for the library’s size after a reasonably thorough search.
Please do let me know if I’d missed a better citation, and thank you again for your feedback.
LLarson (talk) 17:55, 29 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Animalparty: I just noticed that {{convert}} thought that 20,000 ft² was an approximation: the larger figure of 20,060 ft² actually displays a smaller converted figure (1,864 m²) than the original did (1,900 m²). (!)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Signpost exit poll

[edit]

Dear Wikipedian, you recently voted in the ArbCom election. Your username, along with around 155 other usernames of your fellow Wikipedians, was randomly selected from the 2000+ Wikipedians who voted this year, with the help of one of the election-commissioners. If you are willing, could you please participate (at your option either on-wiki via userspace or off-wiki via email) in an exit poll, and answer some questions about how you decided amongst the ArbCom candidates?

If you decide to participate in this exit poll, the statistical results will be published in the Signpost, an online newspaper with over 1000 Wikipedians among the readership. There are about twelve questions, which have alphanumerical answers; it should take you a few minutes to complete the exit poll questionnaire, and will help improve Wikipedia by giving future candidates information about what you think is important. This is only an unofficial survey, and will have no impact on your actual vote during this election, nor in any future election.

All questions are individually optional, and this entire exit poll itself is also entirely optional, though if you choose not to participate, I would appreciate a brief reply indicating why you decided not to take part (see Question Zero). Thanks for being a Wikipedian

The questionnaire

[edit]

Dear Wikipedian, please fill out these questions -- at your option via usertalk or via email, see Detailed Instructions at the end of the twelve questions -- by putting the appropriate answer in the blanks provided. If you decide not to answer a question (all questions are optional), please put the reason down: "undecided" / "private information" / "prefer not to answer" / "question is not well-posed" / "other: please specify". Although the Signpost cannot guarantee that complex answers can be processed for publication, it will help us improve future exit polls, if you give us comments about why you could not answer specific questions.

Concerto

[edit]

Hi LLarson,

Regarding your recent edits of that article, I suggest that instead of editing the article as a whole, you begin by pruning and toning down overblown language in the article, of which there is a lot, as you noticed.

On issues regarding the appreciation of individual composers and pieces, I suggest that you be cautious. For example, it's really true that one of Bruch's violin concertos (No. 1) is overwhelmingly more popular than the other two. If in doubt, you could look up specific WP articles.

If in a version you edit I see a relatively small number of places I disagree, I will re-edit those myself by hand. If there are too many , I hope not, I'd have to revert again. Marlindale (talk) 01:42, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Marlindale: I don’t actually know anything about concerti. I’m just pretty good at spotting original research and weasel words in an encyclopedic article. Sorry if I overstepped. Thanks for reaching out. —LLarson (said & done) 02:33, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ideas for HTwiki articles: New York City Department of Education

[edit]

One of the articles I'd really like to see started on HTWiki (not a full article, a stub will do) is the New York City Department of Education (Haitian name: ht:Depatman Edikasyon vil Nouyòk) - It's an important agency for any New Yorker with children, and the NYCDOE has a Haitian Creole website for immigrant families. Queens Library also posts info in Haitian.

If you want I can get a list of schools with large Haitian populations. Maybe having HTwiki articles on these topics will attract US-born Haitians to HTWiki.

Do you know enough Haitian to start these on HTwiki? If not, do you have friends who can? WhisperToMe (talk) 08:32, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@WhisperToMe: Those are great ideas and I’m excited to give it a shot. It probably makes sense to try and recruit the person who taught me all I know, Kreyolnyc; Savvyjack23 would be a big asset, too. Also, that list of schools with large dyaspora populations would definitely help prioritize. Thank youLLarson (said & done) 16:04, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I found a list of such schools for Miami and posted the findings at ht:Wikipedya:Kafe#Topic_ideas_for_Port_au_Prince_and_Miami-related_articles - Check to see if your friends want to start Miami-Dade County Public Schools (ht:Lekòl Leta Miami-Dade County) and those related articles WhisperToMe (talk) 20:21, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We will also follow up on plans for recent (Art+Feminism!) and upcoming edit-a-thons, and other outreach activities.

We welcome the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from all educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects.

We will also place our chapter's votes for the global Wikimedia Foundation board.

After the main meeting, pizza/chicken/vegetables and refreshments and video games in the gallery!

6:00pm - 7:00pm Mini-Video and social hour
7:00pm - 9:00pm Regular meeting: Introduction for new participants, Noshing, Chapter projects

Esperantidoj

[edit]

Hi, and sorry for the seven-month-late reply; it's been a long time since I last logged in.

Regarding what you asked in this message, I applied the rules stated on the Arcaicam Esperantom article and its Esperanto-language version:

  • The verbal ending for present tense and second person singular is -as, so "Patrom nosam, cuyu estas in Chielom", not "Patrom nosam, cuyu estu in Chielom". Estu (singular only; the plural is estuy) means the same as in actual Esperanto, so that line would be commanding God to be in Heaven, rather than claiming that He is there.
  • The case used to express direction of motion is the dative, not the accusative, so "nosin ned conducu in Tentod", not "nosin ned conducu in Tenton". You can find this rule on the aforementioned Esperanto version of the Arcaicam Esperantom article:
13-a regulo
Por montri direkton, la vortoj ricevas la finiĝon de la dativo.

The Arcaicam Esperantom article, in both its English and Esperanto versions, has the very book in which Manuel Halvelik defined this Esperantido as a source.

I hope this helps. Splibubay (talk) 22:34, 29 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Template editor granted

[edit]

Your account has been granted the "template editor" user permission, allowing you to edit templates and modules that have been protected with template protection. It also allows you to bypass the title blacklist, giving you the ability to create and edit editnotices. Before you use this user right, please read Wikipedia:Template editor and make sure you understand its contents. In particular, you should read the section on wise template editing and the criteria for revocation.

You can use this user right to perform maintenance, answer edit requests, and make any other simple and generally uncontroversial edits to templates, modules, and edinotices. You can also use it to enact more complex or controversial edits, after those edits are first made to a test sandbox, and their technical reliability as well as their consensus among other informed editors has been established. If you are willing to process edit requests on templates and modules, keep in mind that you are taking responsibility to ensure the edits have consensus and are technically sound.

This user right gives you access to some of Wikipedia's most important templates and modules; it is critical that you edit them wisely and that you only make edits that are backed up by consensus. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Happy template editing! — xaosflux Talk 13:54, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi LLarson, you were right on the border for the guidelines on this, but I think you can use this responsibly. Please keep in mind, that you should always seek consensus and be willing to revert (or accept a revert) for anything slightly controversial on protected templates or modules. The hardest part of that is when YOU are the person who wants a change, knowing when and where to just do it vs discuss it first. One of the best ways to help is to patrol and watchlist the TPERT table linked above - where you can help process other's edit requests. Happy editing, — xaosflux Talk 13:59, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, if you are receiving this, you have transcluded {{Usercheck-full}}, I have created a Usercheck with more content, that I plan to update with more when I come across it, as of right now Usercheck-Super has only three more things than Usercheck-full, but as mentioned, I plan to update it, the three things I mentioned are pending changes log, giving all of the revisions you have accepted or rejected, Abuse filter, which gives you the ability to examine your edits, and get many details about an edit, along with Articles created, which links to a page which gives a breakdown of all the pages you have made. If you have comments about what should be added, or find something is broken with the template, or else something links to the wrong thing, feel free to contact me. On the last Sunday of every month, the Boardroom at Ace Hotel New York hosts Action Equals History — a unique opportunity for New Yorkers to learn hands-on in a technology training/workshop session about the mechanics, practices and benefits of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects. This is an opportunity for all to gather, share and work collectively towards a more robust account of history.

For this month, and following on the recent Art+Feminism campaign, we'll focus on building better edit-a-thon tools for a variety of different thematic campaigns, and user-testing them with the community. Towards a goal of advancing these tools for wider use with diverse local groups.

Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) 05:13, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, LLarson. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Upcoming changes to wikitext parsing

[edit]

Hello,

There will be some changes to the way wikitext is parsed during the next few weeks. It will affect all namespaces. You can see a list of pages that may display incorrectly at Special:LintErrors. Since most of the easy problems have already been solved at the English Wikipedia, I am specifically contacting tech-savvy editors such as yourself with this one-time message, in the hope that you will be able to investigate the remaining high-priority pages during the next month.

There are approximately 10,000 articles (and many more non-article pages) with high-priority errors. The most important ones are the articles with misnested tags and table problems. Some of these involve templates, such as infoboxes, or the way the template is used in the article. In some cases, the "error" is a minor, unimportant difference in the visual appearance. In other cases, the results are undesirable. You can see a before-and-after comparison of any article by adding ?action=parsermigration-edit to the end of a link, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Foss?action=parsermigration-edit (which shows a difference in how {{infobox ship}} is parsed).

If you are interested in helping with this project, please see Wikipedia:Linter. There are also some basic instructions (and links to even more information) at https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-ambassadors/2018-April/001836.html You can also leave a note at WT:Linter if you have questions.

Thank you for all the good things you do for the English Wikipedia. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 21:18, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your "improvement" to the long-standing link in this template lead to a 404 error. Please stop fucking around with it. Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:26, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Beyond My Ken: Mea culpa but don’t talk to Wikipedians like that. My first edit to the page worked. I missed the ampersand this time. —LLarson (said & done) 21:36, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop following me

[edit]

You appear to be following me to articles that I have had heavy involvement with. Tenth Avenue (Manhattan), Template:Cite naming, and now Commissioners' Plan of 1811, for which I have 65% of the article by number of edits, and 83% by added text, and an "authorship" factor of 89.5%, [3] . Please stop this behavior before I am forced to bring it to the attention of admins on the noticeboards. Following editors is forbidden by WP:Harrassment, whidch is a policy. Beyond My Ken (talk) 18:45, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Beyond My Ken: I appreciate your concern, but it’s unfounded. Stewardship isn’t ownership and you’re not being followed. —LLarson (said & done) 22:58, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please re-familiarize yourself with this. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:41, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You're harassing me again, and if you keep it up, I will be forced to take this to administrators, since I have warned you befor3e not to. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:59, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please review WP:BRD. When your Bold edit has been Reverted by another editor, the next step, if you continue to think the edit is necessary, is to Discuss it on the article talk page, not to re-revert it, which is the first step to edit warring. During the discussion, the article remains in the status quo ante. Thank you. Beyond My Ken (talk) 01:52, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Note

[edit]

Hi, Beyond My Ken has asked that I talk to you because he feels you are following his contributions. Seeing the recent page history at Bir Tawil, at first glance it appears he is correct, especially when taken in context of the recent dispute and full protection at Commissioners' Plan of 1811. Please stop reverting BMK on different pages. Even if it is not your intent, it can come off as hounding. TonyBallioni (talk) 22:25, 12 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@TonyBallioni: I appreciate your taking the time to address this, and I understand how it could seem like I’m reverting Beyond My Ken on different pages, the history you mention looks damning, but I edited the passage after receiving an email about this revision, the first in a week.
However, because Beyond My Ken (i) reverted my edit, which I restored, because (ii) it is their revisions now standing at both Bir Tawil and Commissioners’ Plan of 1811, and because (iii) Beyond My Ken’s edit summaries are aggressive (“stop fucking around”) and tangential to their preferences (“Better before” or “previous wording was better”), it is I who feels bullied.
The reason I’ve gone elsewhere to edit, rather than back to the Commissioners’ Plan Talk page, is because I wasn’t being heard. I had no idea Beyond My Ken edited, and felt proprietorship, over an article – Bir Tawil – that I’ve been editing for years.
In addition to hiding from Beyond My Ken’s reversions of mostly uncontroversial (but completely policy- and guideline-compliant) edits on the Commissioners’ Plan article, I feel that I’m effectively being asked to check each article’s history before I edit it.
More, Beyond My Ken didn’t assume good faith when they reached out to you and accused me of harassment after my lengthy edits on the Commissioners’ Plan Talk page, and they didn’t assume good faith when I recently reached out to them there for their opinion on a specific subject, and then repeated my request, but wasn’t answered. This occurred at the same time I was being accused of harassment on this Talk page above.
Beyond My Ken, who in a recent reversion said that “choices that [Beyond My Ken] made in writing the article are now precedent, and stand”, engages in behavior incompatible with consensus-building. Their requesting bold–revert–discuss, which is neither a policy nor a guideline, while engaging speedy reversion of uncontroversial edits that don’t qualify as bold, is not in Wikipedia’s best interest. —LLarson (said & done) 00:01, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please stop pinging me. Beyond My Ken (talk) 00:40, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi again, please try to avoid taking actions that could be viewed as following or trying to goad another editor, especially over things relatively minor. BMK has asked that the two of you not interact. While he doesn’t have ownership of articles, it’s notmslly good to leave someone alone when they ask. If this continues, BMK would have a pretty decent case to ask for an IBAN. TonyBallioni (talk) 04:55, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@TonyBallioni: Thank you for your attention to this. I think an IBAN might not have applied here because Beyond My Ken, not I, was attempting to undo a good-faith edit by Kjm16216,¹ – their fourth edit in the 2010s. It’s not just Kjm16216: Beyond My Ken’s heavy use of the undo feature to status-quo stonewall good-faith edits appears longstanding and has also mowed over work by Jonesey95,² Imzadi 1979,³ Paul, and Llammakey.
Meanwhile, Beyond My Ken has failed to assume good faith by referring to my work as “entirely stupid, pedantic, and picayune”. At Wikipedia, we are implored to treat each other professionally. Beyond My Ken’s characterization that they’re being victimized, while engaging in bellicose editing and with careless summaries, makes Wikipedia worse for everyone. If Beyond My Ken feels goaded by their edits being undone, I would respectfully request that they consider using the undo tool more judiciously and with more summary than “better before” and “stop fucking around”. Perhaps they could consider partial reversions?
I appreciate the time this takes and position this puts you in. Thank you for your service. —LLarson (said & done) 20:41, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Just to be clear, I never referred to Llarson's edit as being "entirely stupid, pedantic, and picayune", I referred to the dispute as being "entirely stupid, pedantic, and picayune", which it is. Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:59, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:18, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@MB: I appreciate the notice. Thanks! —LLarson (said & done) 20:04, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I have reverted edits of yours on this article, and would like to remind you about WP:BRD. When your Bold edit has been Reverted by another editor, the recommended next step, if you continue to think the edit is necessary, is to Discuss the dispute on the article talk page with other editors, but not to re-revert it, which is the first step to edit warring, a disruptive activity which is not allowed. Discussion on the talk page is the only way we have of reaching consensus, which is central to resolving editing disputes in an amicable and collegial manner, which is why communicating your concerns to your fellow editors is essential. While the discussion is going on, the article should remain in the status quo ante until the consensus as to what to do is reached, per WP:STATUSQUO.

To help move things along, I have started a discussion on the article talk page about the disputed edit, which you will find at Talk:Commissioners' Plan of 1811#Removal of sourced information. Please take the opportunity to make your views known there. It is best not to restore the changes you made until there is a consensus among the editors there to do so. Thanks, Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:50, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring over your removal of sourced information without a consensus to do so

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Commissioners' Plan of 1811; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:57, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:Help me-help requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

this is disrupting the template massively as help me-help is reinstating 5+ year old help me requests that have long since been closed

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

[edit]

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

[edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Gitee moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Gitee, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ... discospinster talk 19:40, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Genetic history of Africa (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hello, LLarson

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Zippybonzo, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, WG21, for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to contest the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Zippybonzo}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!
