Hey, Kusma! I'm doing a DYK review for the above new(!) article for which the creator has requested a Nov 9 date. Because it's quite likely to get a lot of interest that day, I'd love a quick read by someone who maybe would detect a nuanced neutrality issue better than this Yankee can. :) Would that be something you'd be able/willing to do? --valereee (talk) 18:31, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

Valereee, I have made some remarks on the article talk page. —Kusma (t·c) 20:14, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – October 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2019).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a discussion, a new criterion for speedy category renaming was added: C2F: One eponymous article, which applies if the category contains only an eponymous article or media file, provided that the category has not otherwise been emptied shortly before the nomination. The default outcome is an upmerge to the parent categories.

Technical news

  • As previously noted, tighter password requirements for Administrators were put in place last year. Wikipedia should now alert you if your password is less than 10 characters long and thus too short.

Miscellaneous

  • The Community Tech team has been working on a system for temporarily watching pages, and welcomes feedback.

Stop edit-warring

Kusma, as you well know, there is discussion underway at WP:ANI on whether to revert my edits.

Your unilateral reverts are completely out-of-order. Please stop. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:28, 13 October 2019 (UTC)

Note that your use of rollback was clear breach of WP:ROLLBACKUSE. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:42, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
The irony of your actions is pretty awesome. —Kusma (t·c) 16:54, 13 October 2019 (UTC)

DYK for A Voyage Round the World

On 16 October 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article A Voyage Round the World, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Georg Forster's 1777 report A Voyage Round the World, about the second voyage of James Cook, was not reprinted in English for nearly two centuries? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/A Voyage Round the World. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, A Voyage Round the World), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

ArbCom notice

You are involved in a recently filed request for arbitration. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case#Conduct in portal space and portal deletion discussions and, if you wish to do so, enter your statement and any other material you wish to submit to the Arbitration Committee. ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:04, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Arbitration Case Opened

You were recently listed as a party to a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Portals. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Portals/Evidence. Please add your evidence by December 20, 2019, which is when the evidence phase closes. You can also contribute to the case workshop subpage, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Portals/Workshop. For a guide to the arbitration process, see Wikipedia:Arbitration/Guide to arbitration. For the Arbitration Committee, SQLQuery me! 20:27, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

SQL, thank you for the message. Is there any guidance as to what the scope of the case is or why I am considered a party to the case? —Kusma (t·c) 20:47, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
Kusma, I apologize if I missed something, this is the first case that I've opened. The scope I was given was "The conduct of parties and others in discussions around portals and deletion of portals". SQLQuery me! 20:49, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

Template:WikiProject Hertfordshire

Why did you revert[1] my edit to Template:WikiProject Hertfordshire?

Per WP:REVEXP, a revert should be explained, but your edit supplied no reason for the revert.

Portal:Hertfordshire was deleted. Why reinstate a link to the non-existent portal, thereby pacing the template in the cleanup category Category:Portal templates with all redlinked portals? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 15:51, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

BrownHairedGirl, my apologies, I didn't mean to do that. Stray click :( —Kusma (t·c) 16:03, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
Such accidental reverts usually open the page reverted, so I am surprised that it went un-noticed. But thanks for restoring my edit. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:06, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Conversion therapy in Germany

Sorry, I didn't misinterpret on purpose. :) Beg your pardon :) --CoryGlee (talk) 20:20, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

CoryGlee, no problem, I didn't mean to imply that it was on purpose (sorry if my edit summary made you think so). It is easy to misread the article into believing that the law has changed already, but Parliament still needs to approve it. —Kusma (t·c) 20:26, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays

Merry Christmas, Kusma!
Or Season's Greetings or Happy Winter Solstice! As the year winds to a close, I would like to take a moment to recognize your hard work and offer heartfelt gratitude for all you do for Wikipedia. 331dot, what is wrong with using Twinkle to leave a block notice while blocking a vandal? —Kusma (t·c) 08:04, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
Kusma It is a long term abuser, so WP:DENY. I didn't delete it because of your warning, just to get rid of their nonsense unblock request. 331dot (talk) 08:06, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
331dot, deleting is fine. I was also considering revoking TPA, but thought I'd wait and see: a vandal writing nonsense on their talk page isn't finding a new IP to vandalise anywhere in mainspace. Just please don't send me nonsensical messages like the one above where you told me that leaving that block notice was vandalism. —Kusma (t·c) 08:21, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
I apologize. That was done automatically, I took no action to send it. It went to you because you created the user talk page with your warning. 331dot (talk) 08:22, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
