I think I had these listed in an excerpt from Taft family geneology website, but editor asked that that be removed or redacted which was done. Let me see what I can find and get it back to you . Ksherin 03:45, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your entry regarding Peter Rawson Taft 1 is interesting and I am curious if you also have a listing of the other children mentioned. Everyone has the father of President Taft but no one ever lists Alphonso's siblings. Searching. Thanks! I think the Blackstsone daily photos has copyrights. Some of the historical societies like Erie PA historical I am not sure. I agree add nothing more and just try and edit down and reorder it. If you are new at this, I am very impressed!

Thhanks Meredyth. Your edits are terrific. I will just try to look up the citations that are needed. Thanks!. Ksherin

I notice that you've been adding a lot of external links to Uxbridge, Massachusetts. Please note that there is a protocol to this sort of thing. External links should be few in number, and consolidated at the bottom of the article wherever possible to avoid cluttering the text. Commercial links are to be avoided and may be removed as spam.

You may wish to consult these references:

WP:STYLE WP:LINKS

Please consider carefully whether a given link adds to the article, and consider cleaning up rather than adding more. Acroterion (talk) 02:49, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to check WP:REF for advice on reference formatting - once you understand it it's a lot easier than doing it all by hand, and your references so far don't fit style guidelines. I would also suggest a copyedit to get rid of all the second person "you"s - all writing should be formal in nature. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to help. Acroterion (talk) 20:40, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You want to put the entire reference in between the <ref></ref> ref tags; the ref will then appear below. Acroterion (talk) 22:39, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to be having some trouble with the footnotes and formatting on this page. Do you need any help? Stellar 18:34, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah Meredyth|Stellar. Where have you been? Any help is appeciated. I will quit editing and let you pollish this one up. It only needs a few references, like maybe 3 to 5, and the rest can be footnotes or something. I see acroterion's notes about external links, so they should be few in number. Several of the external links make sense, like good pictures or documents, especially where national significance is noted. The small town has a lot of history, and the write-up grew my interest so I helped add references and such. I will look for the "you" words that acroterion mentions and try to get rid of them. Thanks. ksherin

ksherin - I will fix up the formatting and you can check it to see that I haven't changed the meaning. It will take a while - you have inserted lots of citations and references. Glad to help. Stellar 07:37, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Ksherin: I am going to do some more work on this page tonight. When I looked at my watchlist I saw that you have made more changes again. Hope I don't undo what you have been doing. If you keep adding text, I will fix up the formatting and hopefully it will come right. Stellar 07:25, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reply: You are doing great. I will just try to cite the references as requested, but my formatting is not in final form. Sometimes I can just find internal or external links. Sometimes, it is old obscure text from books which can be found with google. I will try to put them as paranthesis next to where citation needed, or as links at same place. Your help is appreciated. I have never worked with wikipedia before but found this article in July and noticed the editors had requested lots of work. So am trying to help, but also learning a lot about things of history. thanks. ks

My first attempts at editing were pretty ordinary, and I am still learning now. There are always people to help if you ask questions and people will fix things if something breaks. You have chosen a challenging page to work on with this article.
  1. Adding more to the article is probably not the way to go now - what is needed is to tidy it up and re-organise the information so that it flows properly, and then get some feedback from others.
  2. Pictures in articles can only be displayed if there are no copyright restrictions. Are all the pictures you want to display in the article free of copyright?
I'll do more tomorrow when you are not making changes. Must go. Stellar 13:41, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

updates to Uxbridge

[edit]

Ksherin - the edits are not yet finished, I will do some more work tomorrow. Can you check what has been done so far and see if it is OK? There is still the middle bit to fix. Stellar 14:52, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uxbridge 2

What you are doing is awesome. I am only trying to look up the citations needed and correct errors I made. Like 'Great John', instead of Big John, for the native american Chief.

Uxbridge 3;Hi Meredyth/Steller; I am done with adding citations. When you finish with proper editing and formatting, You may wish to take a look at Lydia Taft, and Colonel Seth Reed. As near as I can tell they were the two most significant historic figures not otherwise cited in Wikipedia, so I added them. Thanks. Kevin

Australia

[edit]

Ksherin - I am an Australian. I didn't think the accent was that noticeable. My usual interests in Wiki are Australian women writers, who are still very under-represented. Although I live in Canberra - home of the National Library, a great resource - my time is limited and I don't have the opportunity to do much research. If it was open at 3am I would be there reading, but... Biographies on the whole do interest me and I will look up the two you mentioned.
I will try and finish editing Uxbridge tonight (life intervened the last couple of days). I am going to take out the editorial comments you have added referring to a sustainable environment - the article should just be factual information and not commentary. While I wholeheartedly agree with the opinion, these comments are out of place in this particular article. Stellar 11:41, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Florida

[edit]

You would not have guessed it, but I am in FLorida. THe sustainable environment is a great concern here just as it is in Australia. How is the Great Barrier Reef doing these days? FL, though not yet our nation, is taking a turn toward the green, and conservation. I think Wiki is a wonderful educational tool. The kids today are lucky to have it for research and education. You have truly helped improve what was there for Uxbridge. I grew up there and never knew most of that history. Maybe the young folks there today can learn more about it and appreciate it. Thanks again, Stellar(Meredyth). 8:53 EST; 9/28/07 ksherin(Kevin)

I had assumed you were living in Uxbridge. You write about the place as though you have just walked down the main street. I have cousins who were born in Florida. They have duel citizenship and made growing up there sound very exotic. They now live all over the world. I read a lot of crime fiction - there are lots of books set around your territory. I hope it is mostly fiction! Yes, I think the internet is a great invention, at least it has become so - I like they way it retains it's own sense of anarchy and wikipedia gives me somewhere to go to do something constructive. There is no need to thank me, I am happy to help with this article. It is interesting and you certainly have enough information to build this page. I hope my help gives you some clues on how to do the formatting for other pages. There are templates for citing references which make it relatively easy (Wikipedia:Citation templates) It is a case of cutting and pasting and then filling in the spaces. Stellar 14:21, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Rotary Club of North Queensland recently visited the Rotary Club of Orlando. They were great. The hats the gents wore were terrific. You all have lots of fun down under. Was there a real Crocodile Dundee? User:ksherin 22:14, 28 September 2007 UTC)

PS Meredyth Stellar: Just for the record, I did not write a lot of that. I would say that most was written by a town historian who calls himself Scott. But there were no references. Then someone added references when the big mill fire happened in July. Then I got interested in adding to it, since I had done a picture book of history and slides from the internet for my mother last Christmas. Now I think it is pretty much done with your help. It is a reasonable product and reasonably well documented. I did learn about about references now for next time. Kind of like writing old computer programs with commands. One slip up and you mess up the whole think. Thanks for your guidance and support. Hope you can help on the other two wiki's I mentioned. kevin ksherin 7:54PM EST 9/28/07

References - you did good!

[edit]

I saw the work you did formatting a reference. It is great - trial and error, see what happens and fix the mistakes. And you are right about the article - it is time to set it free in the world. I took off the "work in progress" flag. Most of the articles in wiki appear to be team efforts. Someone starts an article and then others come in with new ideas and new information. It is a collaborative process. it will be interesting now sitting back and watching people polish this article. Hope we can collaborate on another project - perhaps Lydia Taft?

There was reputed to be a real Crocodile Dundee - he did not have a happy life at the end, he was in prison for some time and died relatively young. This was blamed on the reputation and fame he got when the story was told - he lost contol of his life. Stellar 00:44, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes to future collaboration

[edit]

I enjoyed working with you and enjoyed the collaboration. Yes it will be interesting to see future work on this. I think this town is a sleeper for the history it has. President Clinton declared this valley a World heritage site (or some such designation) in the 1990's. I remember when I was a kid that a local lumber yard owner was working on the national corridor designation with collaboration in Rhode Island. I look forward to working with you on Lydia Taft. The source materials are pretty thin. But wew can do what we can do. May have to retrieve the town records or something!. She sounded like a 'cool' lady for her time. Take care. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. Uxbridge - the illustrated version?

[edit]

Ksherin - I looked at the page but you seem to have worked it out. I only did a little bit of tidying. Are you going to look at pictures for the article? I know you have added lots of picture references that I commented out. Wikipedia is very particular about the copyright on pictures and will delete them if the information is not complete. You can't just take picutres from the web and display them. You can post your own photographs. There is an image library with pictures people have added. Search for this - "Image:Blackstone valley from king phillip's rock.jpg" It might be useful to display this. Stellar 11:06, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you need a workspace?

Writing style

[edit]

Ksherin, thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. To improve the articles you are working on, you might want to take a look at the Manual of Style. If you look at the article history of Uxbridge, Massachusetts, you will also note a large number of edits correcting links to disambiguation pages. It would be appreciated if you would make an effort to avoid creating such links. Finally, as noted on WP:CONTEXT, please avoid linking to the same article multiple times in a section, and try to limit your links to those that are most relevant to the subject of the article in which they appear. --Russ (talk) 16:29, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reverend John Elliot

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Reverend John Elliot, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Reverend John Elliot. Hello again. I've noticed you're adding a lot of new content regarding locations in Massachusetts to Wikipedia. Just to reinforce what I've mentioned above, you may want to add sources to these articles. Otherwise, someone may tag them for deletion based on non-notability or other such criteria. Adding at least a couple links as references could go a long way towards keeping the article(s) from the proverbial chopping block. Cheers. ++Arx Fortis 06:17, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yup.. adding the referneces now. Starting with one for each that has multiple footnotes, but can add more over time. no more for tonight!. Good night.

I just noticed that. Nice work. Cheers! ++Arx Fortis 06:21, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at this article it seems that what is actually notable is not the man (who seems to have done little apart from marrying, owning a house and being a coronet- interesting locally perhaps, but not really notable in a Wikipedia sense) but the house itself, which certainly sounds like a notable historical building. Would you consider restructuring/moving the article to be about Coronet John Farnum House, Uxbridge (or whatever its exact name is), and including the significant facts of JF himself in that article? Otherwise I think the article as it now stands may not be easy to defend, and it would be a pity to lose all that work. Regards, HeartofaDog (talk) 03:01, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That seems to work much better. Best wishes, HeartofaDog (talk) 11:37, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I like this article. Interesting the way the focus shifted when the article became about the house. People are often famous for what they leave behind, it is not just a case of having lived. The categories need to be sorted out - should be some categories for historic buildings? Stellar 02:58, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uxbridge Pictures

[edit]

Hi - I have been busy and not been on wikipedia for some time. Thanks for your message. If you put up picutres without completing details about their ownership then they will quickly get taken off. A lot of the pictures you have in the Uxbridge article were from articles or internet sites. These will probably not be able to be used because of copyright. I commented them out in the article because of this problem. If you can sort out the copyright issues then the pictures can be put onto the article.

If you have any picutres that you have taken yourself, you can add them to the wikipedia pictures and these can be put into the article. You will need to complete the details to say that it is your picture and you make it available for public access. Stellar 02:39, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Stellar. As always.

A tip

When creating redirect pages redirect them to the main article not another redirect page or else the readers will have to click the link manually to get to the actual article. -- Mentifisto 11:49, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Historic places in Uxbridge

[edit]

Recently you have created many articles on historic places in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. I request that you merge all of these articles into List of Registered Historic Places in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. As anyone can see, every one of these articles is a very short stub. Also, they have no unique information other than where in town the house is and the type of architecture. Every single one of these articles even includes the exact same two sentences: "The town has 60 buildings listed on the National Registry. Uxbridge has over 250 buildings listed on the State's historic register." The majority has the same two external links. Rather than having so many useless stubs, it would be much easier to merge them all to the main list. It would be rather simple, as it would only need to move the address and relevant link. The articles can then become redirects. I really do not believe that every one of these places is independently notable and deserves its own article, so I kindly ask you to merge them together. I can do some of the work if you like. Thanks, Reywas92Talk 02:34, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Though I will admit that some articles are more about a person or a place with more relevant information and are encyclopedic. These may stay main articles linked from the list. Reywas92Talk 02:38, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can do. It may take a bit of a while

Formatting issues

[edit]

WP:LAYOUT says that no heading should appear before the first paragraph. Also, "Biosketch" is not a word. Plain English is preferred in Wikipedia to make it easier for people of varying degrees of English proficiency to read. It is not a place to use neologisms.

WP:MOSCAPS indicates that sentence case, not title case, is to be used for section headings. To help improve the consistent appearance of Wikipedia, please use capital letters in headings (and article names) only for the first letter and for proper nouns. FO other words, please use lower case letters. Thank you. Ground Zero | t 11:33, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please follow Wikipedia:Manual of Style with regards to capitalization of headings, naming of articles, linking and other formatting issues. It is not the responsibility of other editors to clean up after you. You have been around Wikipedia long enough, and enough people have drawn this issue to your attention that you cannot use the "newbie" excuse. If you are not willing to edit in the Wikipedia style, I will revert your edits, rather than clean them up. I am spending too much time taking care of your articles. Ground Zero | t 04:22, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ground Zero, I will take your comments into account, and am not, nor do intend to be a professional editor. Therefore I am probably not up to the standard. Am learning a bit at a time, and tend to learn best by trial and error. I will stay out of Wikipedia if I am too far afield and not learning. I will try to clean up what is done and just stay out of it for future and watch style if I ever edit again in the future. It's a lot of work that I don't need to do either. User talk:KSherin|t}} 05:30, 16 December 2007 {UTC}

Ksherin, I have just found this comment after posting below. I will let that stand, and respond to this comment here. I do not wish to see you leave Wikipedia. Wikipedia is an amazing project in sharing knowledge, and it needs more editors like you creating content. However, as you spend more time in Wikipedia, it is expected that you will pay more attention to Wikipedia policies and style. You will notice that I initially cleaned up your mistakes without comment, hoping that you would follow my lead. When you continued making the same mistakes, I asked you to pay attention to Wikipedia style. As you continued in the same vein, I have been successively more blunt in order to get your attention.
I do know how much work is involved in being a "professional editor" because for the past couple of works I have been cleaning up your work. I am not asking you to edit anyone else's work. I am only asking that when you are creating your own new content, you follow some basic rules, which I have outlined below. Following these will not take any more of your time, but will save time for others like me who have been cleaning up after you. For example, not putting repeated links in an article to the same article will save you time -- one link is enough, unless it's a really long article, then you might put in a couple. Not linking an article to itself and not linking date fragments will save you time. No writing long stretches of stuff in genealogical shorthand that are not appropriate for an encyclopedia article will save you time. (If you are just copying these, then they are likely copyright violations and therefore have to be removed anyway.) Not using title case in headings won't take you any longer.
You will note that I have also been correcting spelling and typographical errors. I have not commented on this because most people (me included) do these, and I am as happy to help fix those in your writing as I am happy when other people fix them in my writing. You don't make an inordinate number of spelling/typo errors, so no comment is necessary. I am not asking that your contributions be perfect, only that you learn as you go (e.g., by following other people's advice when they offer it to you) in order to save the rest of us time.
You are making excellent contributions to the American history part of Wikipedia, and I strongly encourage you to continue. Thanks. Ground Zero | t 16:06, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your many contributions to this list and to Uxbridge related articles and would like to work with you rather than in opposition to improve them. One concern I have relates to the exactitude that is required in Wikipedia. For instance, the number of place on the list is an exact number. We need to be able to agree on it. Also I find there is a fifference of spelling of "Bazaleel" vs. "Bezaleel" Taft, Jr. We need to decide on the preferred one and use that in article titles, etc., with just a comment on its other spelling. It's perfectly OK to have an article on the person and another one on his house that's listed on the National Register. The house article is concerned with things like architecture, present use, etc., that are different from the biographical article. Best wishes clariosophic (talk) 15:04, 13 December 2007 (UTC) Understand the confusion. Written texts tend to spell the name Bezaleel, and local material tends to spell it Bazaleel. Hence it is confusing. I am preferring Bezaleel and will only mention the Bazaleel spelling once in an article if that is ok. I will also try to stay off of Wikipedia for the near future having felt I have gone as far as I can now. User:Ksherin (talk) 05:35, 2007-12-16 (UTC}[reply]

I've added some structure and formatting to show you what a stub article looks like. The reference is to the government source rather than to the tourism website which really just copies from the government site. It's OK to use the tourism thing in your sandbox but not in the article. The long quote from the walking tour should be avoided because of copyright concerns, etc. It would be better to paraphrase it. There is a discrepancy in the street address. The National Park service says 147 South Main Street, while the tourist thing says 195 South Main Street. It needs to be determined which one is correct. Best wishes clariosophic (talk) 15:40, 13 December 2007 (UTC) You are very good at this and I thank you. KSherin[reply]

Thank you again for your interest in Uxbridge topics. Coronet John Farnum, Jr., House should be focused on the house. You should keep the separate article on the man. That should be focused on him. Your attention, please

[edit]

Ksherin, I recognize that you are eager to contribute to Wikipedia, and applaud you for it. You must accept, however, that Wikipedia has policies and a Wikipedia:Manual of Style that you must follow. I have been trying to bring this to your attention, and I see that others have tried as well, but you do not seem to be willing to heed our requests. As a result, I am spending way too much cleaning up after you. It is not the responsibility of other editors to fix your mistakes. If you do not follow the Manual of Style, I will be entitled to revert your edits. If you want to continue to have your contributions included in Wikipedia, you must make your edits in accordance with Wikipedia policies and style. I ask, once again, that you respect the following "dos and don'ts":

  1. Don't link the same thing over and over in the same article;
  2. Don't use title case in headings within an article, or in article names;
  3. Do use sentence case in headings and article names, i.e., capitalize only the first word and proper nouns;
  4. Don't link date fragments -- you can link January 13 1754, but don't link "1754" or "January"
  5. Don't link to redirect pages -- these are sometimes deleted, and your links will be broken, link to the correct article title instead;
  6. Don't use small fonts or subscript -- these are hard for many readers to read, and Wikipedia strives to be accessible to as many people as possible regardless of sight or other impairment;
  7. Don't write in the style of a genealogy --this is an encyclopedia, please write in full sentences without numerous abbreviations;
  8. Don't copy from genealogical books -- this violates copyright laws;
  9. Do provide references for your contributions -- Wikipedia depends on verifiability; and
  10. Don't create a link in an article to itself, i.e., do not link "Uxbridge, Massachusetts" from the "Uxbridge, Massachusetts" article. Also, do not link to a page that redirect back to the article you are linking from.

If you follow these "dos and don'ts", your contributions will help make a better Wikipedia. If you don't, I will start reverting your changes until you do. I am sorry that I have to be so blunt, but you have continued merrily ignoring Wikipeida style despite my previous entreaties, so I am left with little alternative.

I really hope you will heed this advice, and not cause bigger problems in the future. Thank you. Ground Zero | t 15:23, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ground Zero: Thank you. My problem seems to be retention span for reading the feedback, and repetitious mistakes later. Doing much of this late at night. True I admit to short cuts and not being careful. I have now taken the list of rules and copied them on a separate document on my desktop. I will definitely be more careful if I write any more. For now I will just take the list of rules and try to clean up mistakes I have left. Thanks again. Ksherin | t 18:23, 16, December 2007 (UTC)

And thank you, Ksherin, for all of your great contributions to Wikipedia. Happy editing. Ground Zero | t 13:35, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please use the Move tab instead of cut&paste to 'rename' articles

[edit]

Hello, Ksherin. It appears that you copied and pasted Wheelocksville to Wheelockville. Please do not move articles by copying and pasting them because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself using the move link at the top of the page, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you, MBisanz talk 21:05, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We already have an article at the title Charles V. Chapin; it's not standard Wikipedia format to include postnominal letters such as "MD" in the article title itself. Please feel free to improve the existing article as needed. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 18:15, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the work on Uxbridge

[edit]

Hi Ksherin, I was researching recent edits in Wikipedia and noticed that Uxbridge is the third most edited article in the past month (before such as Iron Man(!)). Thanks for all the work, you're doing unbelievable job. I hope you will continue on other articles once you're done with this one. The only thing about the article that I didn't think was a good practice is that it's written as bullet list. Generally speaking, articles on Wikipedia should be written in paragraphs so they can be read as a coherent and continuous text. The article is very hard to read this way – as a list of facts that don't really construct history. This isn't major objection just a feedback on what you might want to consider while editing Wikipedia. I don't want to discourage you in any way from continuing your work, should you require any help please feel free to ask. Once more thank you!--Pethr (talk) 02:37, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pethr: I want to put this one to bed. I grew up in this town and caught the article on Wikipedia when the local mill fire made national news last year. It was a mess... no references, but interesting trivia. I learned about American History, local history, and how to be more helpful to the Wikipedia cause rather than to mess it up worse. No problem with your edit suggestion about bullets. Its done, not too much work. Probably not the best grammer and syntax, but I am no pro. The bullets helped me to organize what was important to retain from a a very long winded article which is now down from over 10 pages of text to around 6. Thanks. Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page List of people from Uxbridge, Massachusetts has been reverted.

Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): \bblog(?:cu|fa|harbor|mybrain|post|savy|spot|townhall)?\.com\b (links: http://aminports3.blogspot.com/2008/01/hall-e-portraits-of-root-family.html). If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, or similar site, then please check the information on the external site thoroughly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creator's copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).

If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Baxter Hall, Lexington and Concord

[edit]

I've once again removed Baxter Hall from Battles of Lexington and Concord, for reasons documented on the article's discussion page. Please feel free to discuss the point there. Magic♪piano 13:48, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

All I can add is that it is documented that he enlisted for the battle of Lexington and Concord, was a drummer, and later became a Captain. that is why I listed the two references for that. User_talk:KSherin 03:19 April 22 (UTC)

This is also true of thousands of other individuals, yet they are not listed in the article. Furthermore, merely enlisting in response to the alarm does not even mean he was actually involved in the battle in any way. Do you have evidence that his company reached any portion of the battle road on the day of the battle (about 40 miles of marching, by my reckoning), and that he actually did something worth mentioning when he got there? If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Captain James Buxton requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Cind.amuse (Cindy) 06:28, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your contributions to this project but have removed the text ("The Massachusetts league of Women Voter offers a discussion of Counties in the Commonwealth.") and its accompanying link to the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts web site you have added to all the Massachusetts county pages. The fact that LWVMA has a web site about Massachusetts counties has more to do with the League and the counties as a whole and little to do with each individual county. I think this link with much shortened text (e.g. "League of Women Voters info on Massachusetts counties") could have a place in the External links on some state-wide pages. I also think there could possibly be a mention in the External links section of each county page but only if it linked specifically to the section about the particular county. If you disagree with this action, please discuss it here. Jojalozzo 03:47, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Captain James Buxton for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Captain James Buxton is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Captain James Buxton until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Cind.amuse (Cindy) 05:47, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I note the article is considered for deletion. Captain James Buxton served in Colonel Benjamin Tuppers Regiment in the American War for Inedpendence. He held the rank of Ensign, Lieutenant and Captain. He served at Valley Forge and signed an oath of allegiance to the USA during a time of severe hardship for the American revolutionary war soldiers. He is locally recognized as a colonial folk hero in the border towns of the two states of Massachusetts and Rhode Island with a local Fife and drum corps named in his honor. THere are now four references as links to the article. Paid references could be added to strengthen the article but I don't think I would spend the money if you plan to delete this. He is basically a colonial figure of the revolutionary war period.

I have tried to edit to save the article from deletion. I have found references that show links where James Buxton was rostered at Valley Forge and at the Battles of Saratoga. There are further links that verify his family origin from with his grandfather from Salem Massachusetts. Altogether I have added another 8 or so links and a total of 16 citations to the original 3 citations. I hope that helps to save it from deletion. He held 4 separate commissioned ranks in the American Revolution, Ensign, Second Lieutenant, Lieutenant, and Captain, and served in at least two or three known major battles with five years of service. Here is a summary.

Significance of Captain James Buxton in Regional Historic Record

[edit]

Captain James Buxton had an honorable record of five years of military service in the American Revolution as a Massachusetts militia man including the battles of Saratoga, and Valley Forge, and Hudson River, three commissioned command advancements, elevation to the rank of Captain, and an award of 300 acres of land for service to his country. His Commission as a Captain in the Continental Army was signed by John Hancock in 1781. Captain James Buxton is recognized in the New England region by a fife and drum corps named in his honor[[.[User:Talk]]; Ksherin]][[KSherin) 03::16 06 (UTC) Sept (UTC)

Autopatrolled

[edit]

Hello Ksherin -- I have removed autopatrolled from your account because the BLP Skip Shea which you created does not meet current standards. There were problems with copyright violation as well as unsourced material of a type that absolutely requires sourcing under the BLP policy. I notice that you have not created an article in a while before this one, and would ask that you review current policies, especially on living people and copyright, before creating another article. License tagging for File:KoasekAbenakiNationFlag.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:KoasekAbenakiNationFlag.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Understood. Working to improve independence of references. The states largest media has covered this tribes efforts. I am rusty with Wikipedia references, processes and critiques. but working at it. The “copyright violation” was by permission from tribes website, edit by chief. The flag is Creative Commons 1.0. This project is important to indigenous history of New Hampshire which is the only state lacking state tribal recognition. Certainly true among New England states. The citations needed for population in ethnic info box should be on the tribes website next week. Ksherin (talk) 10:54, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:KoasekAbenakiNationFlag.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:KoasekAbenakiNationFlag.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 06:04, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Ksherin! Your additions to Ko'asek (Co'wasuck) Traditional Band of the Sovereign Abenaki Nation have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 13:05, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I notice from your recent changes to Uxbridge, Massachusetts‎ that you seem to be adding information that you obtained from ChatGPT. A tag has been placed on File:KoasekAbenakiNationFlag.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

WP:F11: File tagged as permission pending with no ticket in the VRT system for more than 30 days

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. — Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 18:52, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Taft family

[edit]

Thanks so much for your articles about Taft family members from Mendon and Uxbridge, Massachusetts. They are very interesting.

I have been doing some editing on Bazaleel Taft Sr. and Josiah Taft because there are some sources that are considered unreliable because there's no editing process to ensure that the content is truth or published in documents. Rootsweb and other user-driven genealogy sites, find-a-grave, and personal family websites are not reliable for those reasons. Newspapers, books, and journal articles are examples of reliable sources. I am going to work on Lydia Chapin Taft's article next.

These articles were written awhile ago. If you're already aware of the need to ensure that sources come from reliable sources that have an editorial function, I am sorry to bother you.

For Bazaleel Taft Sr., I moved it from Bezaleel Taft Sr. to be in synch with Hon. Bazaleel Taft House and I was initially finding sources under Bazaleel - especially in more modern sources, but I see now that Bezaleel was used in his vital records and information about his legislative career. I do say, though, that his name is also spelled Bezaleel. Does that work? Or do you think it should be changed back?

Happy editing. So glad you're here!–CaroleHenson (talk) 00:13, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
