Userbox nominations at TfD

I see you've nominated another handful of userboxes ({{User html5}}, {{User haskell-0}}, {{User cobol-0}} for instance) at TfD. As you should know by now, userboxes go to MfD regardless of what namespace they're in. Nominating them in the wrong place just causes more work for closing administrators as they inevitably have to be re-listed at the right place. If you're using a script to nominate unused templates en masse (which seems likely), please be sure to check the output each time in future. Hi, I'm still new to writing Wikipedia articles (I've only written one) so I don't know where exactly to type my comments. My first article (about the author Kai Lu) was nominated for deletion and I am requesting that the nomination be removed. My article has been cleaned up per removal of any text that may be construed as opinion. I want the article to stand because the author Kai Lu is well-known and respected in the West Hollywood, CA (and elsewhere) LGBT community not only for literary work but also for contributions to community organizations. Children's Museum update

It's time again to share the latest news on the Children's Museum of Indianapolis Wikipedia project! In the last few months we have been busy with our third image donation, which was made up of 150 images that were professionally photographed specifically for this upload. We are asking for volunteers to categorize these images and distribute them into Wikipedia articles. Your help is appreciated! Check them out here.

We have also donated our first video and a second GLAM-Wiki Infographic to Commons. In September we were thrilled to welcome Jimmy Wales to the museum. Following our successful Edit-a-Thon and Translate-a-Thon in August, translations have continued with the help of the established QRpedia community, (particularly Russian translations thanks to Lvova!) We have begun to analyze our implementation of QRpedia codes and completed an extensive case study. In November we presented at the Museum Computer Network conference about how museums can effectively collaborate with Wikipedia. You can see more details on the Prezi.

In more general news, in addition to serving as the Children's Museum's Wikipedian-in-Residence, it was recently announced that I will be taking on the role of US Cultural Partnerships Coordinator for the Wikimedia Foundation. In this role I will be working to streamline the process of connecting interested US GLAMs with the Wikipedia community. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to let me know. I'll leave it up to you to pick between the two. I will say that LRP has the distinct advantage of having a thinner amount of sources available that discuss it, making it easier to be comprehensive about it (for example, as far as I know it's only ever charted in two countries, and has sales certified only in the US, all due to the band's cult status at the time and IRS' less-than-stellar overseas distribution). You do have a point regarding the Green background. I was mainly thinking in terms of which album I like more, and thus which would keep me better engaged. In light of your argument, Green would be more interesting to work on. Before we start, shall we plan out a course of action between the two of us? About the only thing I ask at this stage is that since there doesn't appear to be an established citation style currently for the page, that we utilize the straightforward no-ref-template style I prefer to use, since I find it far easier to work with and manipulate. I have the Buckley book and the R.E.M. Companion on-hand. I also have the '96 version of It Crawled from the South, but as that has a more fannish bent and a number of outright errors I try to use it as little as possible. Black and Buckley look like what we should rely on the most. How about we work progressively from Recording production to release using Buckley/Black as our main sources, then go back when we are finished and add what is imperative from the remaining sources? So we don't bump into each other, I think I might start on the "music" section, as I tend to have a knack for those. Also, I like that Buckley has chart placings and sales certs in the back, so I think I'll just pop in the cites he provides, and then you add anything that might be missing. I'd recommend covering sales figures and certifications solely in the prose without a table as there are so few, but if you feel strongly about including the table I won't object in this instance. Also, it'd probably be sensible to copy stuff I cited in the Green paragraph in R.E.M., since that gives us the basics about the album which we won't have to dig for. There's about five pages in the Buckley book that dealt with the album specifically; there's a few more about the Green tour. The main thrust for the Music section looks like it's going to be: Stipe told the band to write fewer "R.E.M.-type songs", experimentation present, first appearance of Buck on mandolin, originally envisioned as half-electric and half-acoustic, album considered somewhat haphazard--even by Scott Litt. Buckley also points out three primary stylistic types the songs from the record can be filed under. Mind you, we can address this topic way further down the line, after we take care of other sections first; I don't intend to touch the Release History section it until we agree on what to do. Hey, I don't have a copy of Reveal with me at the moment, so I can only view it on Google Books. Naturally, some of the pages are unavailable. I'm starting on the recording details, but it looks like what I can't see (on pages 140-148) discusses the demos leading up to the proper sessions. Can you add material that looks worthwhile from those pages to the article? It doesn't need to be tip-top shape; get the basic points down and I'll polish them and pair down as necessary. Debut albums

Hello. I see that it is a new development that instead of Category:Debut albums, there are new offshot categories of [[:Category:[year] debut albums]]. You have been adding the year to debut albums categories on a lot of pages, and thank you for doing that. I picked up on this activity because many of the pages on my watchlist are affected. One aspect of this change that has not been taken care of as much, however, is the leaving behind of theCategory: Debut albums</nowiki>. I've taken away, from my watchlist, many of the debut album categorizations that are now not needed on the articles, in favor of the newly instilled categories with greater specificity. If the debut album category could be removed alongside the specifying of the year articles, that would be nice. Thank you and cheers. I came to ask about the same thing. Having read these comments, and your replies on User talk:Backtable I'm still confused as to what is supposed to be happening:-

On Paris (Paris album) you changed "1976 albums" to "1976 debut albums" and left "debut albums"
On Brinsley Schwarz (album) you changed "1970 albums" to "1970 debut albums" and removed "debut albums" with an edit summary of "redundant cat".

Is this difference an oversight? Or do different policies prevail on these two pages?
Nowhere on the page [[Category:Debut albums]], or its discussion page, does it say the category is redundant. Where does it say that it is? and how is an editor supposed to know to stop using a category, if it doesn't say so on the category page?

I go along with your argument that liner notes should not need to be referenced if they are the only source and there is no unexpected information, other than the standard track names, times, etc. My primary purpose in including them is to prevent the article from being marked as unsourced. I think that banners such as the unsourced banner add to the impression that a Wikipedia article is incomplete or needs work, and add to an impression of unreliability when in fact the article really is substantially complete.GullyWalker (talk) 17:24, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Noticed that about a month ago you added him to the Category Vegan sportspeople. He's not a vegan. In his book The All-Pro Diet: Lose Fat, Build Muscle he expressed frustration with people calling him a vegan. He eats meat, mainly chicken fish and no more than 18 ounces of red meat. U2 province

I see you have added a province to U2, I have found the template you mentioned [1]. The problem with this is it doesnt take into account the fact that Irish provinces are not like Canadian ones or American states. I can see where the confusion would arise. Irish provinces are not that important any more and are very seldom used in common address or place discription. A more common example would be Irish addresses use counties a lot more than the USA or Canada. I have left examples on the U2 talkpage of other Irish artists and bands to show you. Category: Sony Music Entertainment albums

Hi Koavf. I realized you have been using AWB for various label related categories. The aforementioned category should NOT contain any album articles directly, but rather it should rightfully contain subcategories to Sony Music labels, which in turn contain their respective albums. I hope you can see how this is much more proper. Also a general 'sony music albums' category for album articles would be forever terminally incomplete due to the tens of thousands of prospective albums from around the world and throughout the century that could be placed in there, defeating the purpose of categorizing in the first place. Ok I realize that my 'hundred of thousands' argument doesn't hold relevance to wikipedia categories on it's own, but what I was trying to infer is that a couple dozen albums thrown into the category is very random in a universe of potentially hundreds of notable articles, each of which can and should belong to other respective subcategories of the said category. Indeed, about 40 something articles have made it into the category, which is just total randomness. As for deciding to message you, it was on the basis of this edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=In_the_Name_of_My_Father_%E2%80%93_The_Zepset_%E2%80%93_Live_from_Electric_Ladyland&action=historysubmit&diff=385110314&oldid=385110286, an article from which I recall having removed this category, as it belongs to Epic Records, for example. My mistake, by the way, you didn't use AWB, but HotCat. Basically 'Sony Music Entertainment' is the parent company and it operates through various labels, label groups, divisions, subsidiaries, national offices, etc., all of which operate and release content under their own names. Therefore there will almost never be an ambiguity that will result in an article solely belonging in 'Sony Music Entertainment albums'. Rather this category should group together all the record label album categories of the parent, Sony Music Entertainment, as subcategories. My apologies if my articulation isn't that clear; I'm not too familiar as to speak with precision regarding wikipedia categorization, but I can expand on the basics of Sony Music Entertainment company structure if you want me to further justify my reasoning. Canadian music project

Koavf, a friendly request? When you add banners to article/category talk pages using {{Canada}}, please be aware that there are currently 36 other projects that use this main banner. If I'm not mistaken, most of your edits (or at least the ones I've seen) are music related? I'm not asking you to be an expert on the template, just add the |music=yes parameter when adding the template. Thanks for your edits. I guess you're one of the few users that understands that the banner is key to article alerts and the wolterbot cleanup list. I tend to see your userid alot! I'm glad I am not alone in knowing the importance of the talk page project banner. I started tagging the Canadian music project early 2011 (I think?). I took a break from wiki but I'm back at it. I tend to stay within the Canada categories so it's more/less easy for me: Canada banner + Bio (musician) banner, + whatever genre of music. I'd have to say, don't worry too much about the prov/terr projects. I only add them to musicians/bands/music festivals (never albums/songs). In fact, if you like, rate/assess the article leaving those blank for the Canada project: as long as you use music=yes, I'll see the article. I tend to always fix the Canada banner anyway. Since talking with you, I've found that the Canada people have added St. John's and there may be an error in the documentation of the template. Thanks a lot!(lol) Later... Removing cats

Hi. I'm afraid I don't understand some of your edits I came across just now. If someone is born in, say, France, of Jewish heritage, and then moves to the US and becomes a US citizen, then both the categories "French Jews" and "American Jews" are appropriate. one because of their birthplace, and the other because of their citizenship -- so I don't understand why you're removing "American Jews" from articles as part of a "diffusion". I am sorry, I was reading more into the talk pages than was there. Since you have a clear idea of what is wanted then it would be best if you did it. At the moment, I am trying to clear up the backlog of split tags. I will do the obvious remove cases and easy ones first. If you haven't had time when I come to the harder ones then I will have a go. Sorry, perhaps should have been clearer. I was dealing with someone who basically shut down discussion on the grounds that I was new. I then realised that last year, you had raised the same point that I had - you put a banner on the article suggesting it was very long and consideration should be given to breaking it up into smaller articles. He deleted it just 5 minutes later. So essentially your involvement consists of me having used you as an example to show that I'm not just making crazy trouble off the top of my head, but trying to raise a concern that other, more experienced editors have shared. Thanks for the reply, but I wasn't thinking about the lack of a source. The problem is we have sources where Moby says he's a Christian and others where he says he isn't. It's ambiguous so I think we need to leave him out of this category. (Chorleypie (talk) 23:04, 13 February 2012 (UTC))

Hi. Please don't change the format of the date pages as you have done at November 18 without first discussing the change to consensus at WT:DAYS. The date articles all have a consistent format and any change should be discussed. Making a random change to one article creates a lot of work for other editors in reverting the change. The extra work didn't come from that particular revert, it came when you had changed the format a while back. Since there were intervening edits, the fix had to be done manually. Okay, that kind of makes sense. I've added the cat Category:African American novelists since he did publish five novels, and that is a bit more specific than "writer" or "philosopher".
