Douglas Mackimm
I do not believe that the entry "Douglas Mackimm" that I have created should be eliminated. I read and understand Wikipedia's guidelines for articles, and "Douglas Mackimm" does not violate any specific rules set forth as to the validity of articles. Also, the article in no way, shape, or form is the "pure vandalism" that was cited in the notice I received of its probable deletion. Wikipedia does set forth policy in that it exercises editorial control over articles and publications, but as established in previous similar cases, exercising such control cannot legally be content-based. There is a compelling interest in having the right to publish such information, and Wikipedia interfering with that right is in violation of the First Amendment.

thanx 4 removing "delete" mark from the article about this photographer. He did not shoot for any movies but as far as I know from my recent trip to Ukraine - he's pretty known there, and he's made a great impact on the development of portrait\fashion photography in that country. Check his works on the official website, this photographer is really amazing! thanx again for leaving the article "on". cheers. BTW, can u pls upload the photo of this photographer..'cause it seems to me I do not have rights for that here yet. Lemme know and I'll send it to you. - The article says he shot the photo shoots for movies like "While You Were Sleeping". Where did you get the photos from? Wikipedia has rules on what photos can be uploaded. If it is copyrighted, they won't accept it. If you took the photo yourself it is fine, but other than that, things get a little strict. Killiondude (talk) 01:51, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
- He did not shot for the movie "While u were sleeping", that is the name for the fashion-story he shot. By 'fashion story' photographers usually mean "a series of fashion photographs, mostly of editorial type ones, usually shot for magazines". As to the "While u were sleeping" series, it was published in well known in Western Ukraine magazine called "Lviv Today", which is being published by Peter Dickinson.
- As to the photo of this photographer, everything is legal here, it is the one from photographer's biography. If u need his approval for putting this photo here, let me know and I will ask him to send you a confirmation by email, if u wish. Thanks for assistance. Cheers. - First lets make sure the artist is "notable". Please read WP:BIO and WP:CREATIVE. They list criteria for something to be included in Wikipedia. With the article the way it is right now, it doesn't give any references or sources to meet these required criteria, and as such it Den Shchliker could be considered "non-notable" for Wikipedia. Could you provide any references online to any articles in newspaper, magazines, or journals about him?
- I'd like to establish notability before any superficial work is done to the article. I placed a tag on the article stating that the subject may not be notable (until this is resolved). Killiondude (talk) 18:33, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- His works published (at least those I know about...but actually there could be more and more of them): (1) Photo "When There's No Way Back" was nominated for the 1-st Place winner for publication in "Popular Photography & Imaging" magazine (New York, USA); (2) some of his art-works were published in the well known in Russia photography book "Outlooks On Life. Volume II: Such a Different Love". (3) His special interview was for the STUD mag, which is a Russina or Ukrainian one. In addition to the above mentioned in my previous post: this photographer was also known in collaboration with Ukrainian music band "Monophonic", and was the author of photographic cover for the EP album of the mentioned music band (Monophonic: "Sunny Walk"). - Yes, I was referencing a warning that somebody else had put on your talk page. See Template:Uw-delete2 (which is what Trusilver had given you). "UW" stands for "user warning" also see WP:WARN. It seems to have been given because you deleted (or removed) content from the KOVR page, and I posted a message on your talk page because somebody from your account had removed content again. Newbie Question
Hi Killiondude, I am taking you up on the offer to answer some questions. Thanks for commenting on the Benchmark_Electronics article that I am working on. My question is regarding the fact that the article seems to have gone through a couple of speedy deletes in the past. - From looking at what you've written, I doubt it very much. Speedy deletion happens when an article can't show notability. That's a word tossed around a lot in Wikipedia. It means the article has to prove that the subject is "widely known" enough to have an article. This is proven by the amount of coverage it gets in third party journals, articles, books, sites, etc. Benchmark Electronics seems to meet the notability requirements, so it won't be speedy deleted. The third party references you've provided help its case. You might want to add more--just to be more confident that its notability won't be a problem. But like I said, as of right now it appears to be a notable company. If you click on the link I provided above, (the word notability will lead you to WP:ORG), it discusses this topic further.
On another note, don't worry about asking questions (to me or anyone in general). People for the most part are very helpful on the site. I spotted that exact same thing, and checked it out: the previous deletes were over copyright violations (probably copy-and-pastes from the company website), so there has never been any question of notability problems with this one. PS to Killion: there are lots of reasons for speedy deletion, not just notability.

I have one problem though. There's one article here that has the same title (Charles A. Lockwood, an admiral), except for the middle initial. Mine doesn't have that supposedly, but still it won't allow me to create a page. I did try to peruse some guidelines ... but, I thought I haven't done enough to remedy the problem and I don't really know what to do now. Can you please help me, or tell me the proper way to resolve this? Thank you so much for your time.
- You'll have to add a qualifier at the end of his name when you move it into the mainspace (a "live" article). For example, "Charles Lockwood (author)" or something of that sort. See WP:NAMEPEOPLE and more specifically, WP:QUALIFIER. I've never seen a "(strategist)" qualifier though, so I'm not sure you should use that. In my opinion the "(author)" qualifier might work out better. Once you make the article, you (or I) can add a hatnote to the top of the admiral's page saying "For the corporate strategist of the same name, see X", (something to that effect) where X would be the name and link to your Charles Lockwood. Also, to link internally to your user subpage, you'd write User:Jxc5/Charles Lockwood (I noticed you've been using the web page address instead of internally linking it). - I didn't nominate the article, another (new) user did. I think that Den Schliker meets the requirements to stay on Wikipedia. You can put your two cents in at the deletion discussion for the article here. If you can read Russian or Ukrainian and can find any more references for Schliker on the internet, now would be a great time. It would help show that he is notable.

What is Den Schliker name is Russian and ukrainian? You can use Google to find sources. Add this guys name in russian and ukrainian in the article.

Reference help
hey, thanks for the advice! Doing references that way next time will be much easier. Do you know though if there is anyway I can take what I already put in with the references tags and not re-list the same reference over and over? - Okay, so it did work. I guess I could've recommended this way to you as well (but I forgot). You can just add a "name" value for the references as they currently are in that article. So it'd go something like this: <ref name="blah">reference is cited here<ref> and then when you want to cite the same thing later on, you'd write just <ref name="blah" />. - Oh sweet. That's a nifty category to work from. Yeah, that looks like it'll work but like I said, be careful that community ollege numbers don't get included (some university systems include 4-year as well as 2-year institutions). Wikipedia link help
Hey, Killiondude, I was hoping you might be able to answer a question for me. So I am working on the article Uses of Fungicides right now, hoping to cut down the references and put links in so I can finish up this article and take off the construction tag but I am a little confused on wikipedia policy on links. Basically what I am wondering is within an article how often do you make a word link to another wikipedia article? For example in Uses of Fungicides the article talks about many different U.S. states many times. Now what I am wondering is let's say for California how often do I link to the California page when I mention the state? Onl the first time? Everytime? It is a lengthy article so it seems like I should link to it more than once but not every single time. I tried to find wikipedia guidelines on this somewhere but kinda struggled to so I was hoping you might be able to shed some light. Thanks so much! CPRI04 (talk) 15:30, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- Sure! MOS:LINKS is the page that covers the guidelines for "wikilinking". Typically wikilinking is used as a "cross-reference" to help the reader better understand what the article is talking about. So for a fungicide article you might want to wikilink any technical terms/phrases that have Wikipedia articles of their own so that the reader (if they don't know what that term means) can read more about it. Because the article you're working on is about fungicides, I wouldn't bother with wikilinking to US states, unless reading the states' articles would help the reader understand more about whatever the fungicide article is talking about. But when you link inside an article, you typically do it the just first time that the word comes up, and possibly a second time if the word/term/phrase comes up later on in the article (not in the same section, but further down). There needs to be a "happy medium" of sorts in every article where there is enough wikilinks so that it is not underlinked nor overlinked. Joe Graham article
Hello,
The Joe Graham article is the first I have posted on Wikipedia. I write the article working with Joe. Joe supplied the picture. He's 65 (today as a matter of fact) and is not too tech-savvy. I have some pictures that I have taken of him on my visits to Belfast, but he prefers that one.
When it comes to references, are you looking for third-party references to some of the facts in the article? For example, of the books Joe is written, most are out of print or were of such limited runs that links are not available to them other than used bookstores online and those are very temporary.

- Yes. Articles needs to provide reliable sources (that are third preferably) to show verifiability and to meet notability requirements for people. You probably want to check out Wikipedia:Your first article, Wikipedia:Frequently Asked Questions, and Wikipedia:Tutorial. Also, the welcome box I placed on your talk page has many useful links too. Don't be afraid to ask me any questions though. I suggest citing as many third party sources as possible in the Joe Graham article, so that it'll be safe from deletion (non-notable people's articles get deleted per Wikipedia's criteria at WP:BIO). - I also forgot to mention that it is sort of frowned upon for people to edit Wikipedia articles about themselves. Even with good intentions. It just leads to a lot of information that isn't cited, as well as casting a positive light on the subject of the article. Wikipedia tries at all costs to maintain a neutral point of view. And if you're a friend or contact of Joe, you have a conflict of interest. Basically that means you are connected to the subject, and you need to be very careful when editing stuff about him (to keep a neutral point of view in place). I forgot to answer the question about the photo in my previous post. Check out WP:YOURPHOTO. That page is very to the point and gives step by step instructions on how a person can submit a photo of themselves to Wikipedia. Bascially, Joe needs to email that photo to the email address given on that page, stating that Wikipedia can use it. See the previous link for more info. Cherita (poetic form)
Cherita [pronounced CHAIR-rita] is a Malay word for story or tale. A Cherita consists of a single stanza of one-line verse, followed by a two-line verse, and then finishing with a three-line verse. It was created by ai li, editor of still: home of short verse, on the 22 June 1997.
The Cherita arose out of the English-language haiku and tanka tradition, but is more anecdotal, or nano-narrative, in nature than are the “momentary” haiku and the more lyrical tanka, though it is easily adaptable to lyical expression. It is imagistic in nature, and depends on conciseness and suggestion for its effect.

Thank you. I understand about the reliable sources and I'll look into it, though I doubt I can find more credible ones! And I do still have the welcome box. I'm just making mistakes, because yesterday was my first try at Wikipedia. I'll try for a bit more patience. I tend to learn by rolling up my sleeves and trying things out, then the instructions make more sense when I come back to them. But I shouldn't inflict my methods on busy people. Anyway, thanks for the help.
