Bot credits
[edit]- 11:44, 11 December 2008 - The bot gave me a credit[1] for Castle Crags Wilderness, but had previously given me credit at 05:38, 11 December 2008.
- 11:45, 11 December 2008 - The bot overlaid one of my DYK credits (William Wayte) with another DYK credit (Werner Reinhart).
-- Suntag ☼ 15:38, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- The bot still is overwriting DYK credits. See 18:08, 12 December 2008. -- Suntag ☼ 18:50, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- The bot still is overwriting DYK credits. See 14:14, 13 December 2008. -- Suntag ☼ 07:27, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- This happens when the credit section is not properly formatted, i.e. If the same editor has written/nominated multiple articles we have to add different amounts of spaces after the username for the additional articles, as instructed here. The number of the additional spaces must match the number of the additional articles, otherwise the bot will overwrite a previous credit notice. --BorgQueen (talk) 09:02, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- The bot overwrote my Walter Balderson credit at 04:16, 15 December 2008 with another credit that I was to receive.[2] It may be a result of arranging the nom credits on top of each other, as in this edit. May be some code can be added to the bot to prevent such overwriting. -- Suntag ☼ 21:09, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Not really. Credits were arranged in the same way here and the bot didn't overwrite. --BorgQueen (talk) 08:34, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Adding Talk: template
[edit]I was curious how long it takes for the bot to add {{dyktalk}} to articles that have been archived. In specific to Talk:Van Buren State Park (Ohio), which was archived about 3ish hours ago. Thanks. §hep • ¡Talk to me! 21:04, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
DYKtalk templates
[edit]Can we coordinate the {{dyktalk}} format left by DYKBot so it works with {{ArticleHistory}} and my bot? The {{dyktalk}} templates left by DYKBot include the dyk hook text, although {{dyktalk}} doesn't actually display this text.[3] The hook text wouldn't really fit into {{ArticleHistory}}, but {{ArticleHistory}} supports a link to an archive at WP:DYKA.[4] Can that be included that rather than the hook itself? It would be ideal if the DYK archives supported links to specific dates, either by an anchor link or by making the date a header. Gimmetrow 03:51, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- Comment: {{Dyktalk}} does display the text left by this bot now after a template modification. While I believe the archive link would be useful, it's already coded into the template using the num parameter, why wouldn't it be possible to have {{ArticleHistory}} support the text string? That would make the text easier to find than browsing an archive page. §hep • ¡Talk to me! 20:40, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- It's technically possible to have the hook text in {{ArticleHistory}}, but it doesn't fit the philosophy of the template, which is to reduce talk page clutter. The hook text is listed at the WP:DYKA archives - is that not good enough for the rare cases when someone wants to know exactly what hook text was used for the article when it ran on DYK? Gimmetrow 23:01, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not too familiar with how the bot works, so you can take this with a grain of salt, but personally I wouldn't be averse to having {{ArticleHistory}} totally replace {{DYKtalk}} sometime in the future, if we could get the DYKbot to hand out that template instead of the DYKtalk template. —Politizer talk/contribs 02:11, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
That would work. Rather than add
{{dyktalk|6 December|2008|hook text}}
when {{ArticleHistory}} doesn't exist on the page yet, DYKBot could add
{{ArticleHistory |dykdate=6 December 2008 |dyklink=Wikipedia:Recent additions 235 }}
The problem would be any {{ArticleHistory}} template already on the page. Some new or recently-expanded articles get reviewed at GA before they appear on DYK. Gimmetrow 02:40, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- Also, DYKbot would have to know what to enter for the date and archive link, right? I assume date could be handled with {{FULLDATE}} or one of those things...as for what to put in the
|dyklink=
, would it just be up to whoever creates a new page on Recent additions to also update the bot with whatever the current archive link is? - (and, of course, what you pointed out about articles that already have AH also would have to be dealt with...I don't know enough scripting to know what to do about that, so I'm just focusing my attention on the first part for now.) —Politizer talk/contribs 02:53, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- DYKBot already adds the date as part of {{dyktalk}}. Not sure how the archives work currently. If the archives had anchor links for each day, the dyklink could point to that. Gimmetrow 03:00, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Incorrect DYK text
[edit]Hi DYKBot. FYI, you added the wrong DYK text to Talk:Lola T93/30 at 20:17 on 26 December 2008 (UTC). Instead of this text:
- ... that the Lola T93/30 Formula 1 car was described as "virtually undriveable" by the team's drivers after its first race, 1993 South African Grand Prix, because of its aerodynamic deficiencies?
you added the text from the next DYK item, i.e.:
- ... that author Jacqueline Wilson described Dustbin Baby, the BBC dramatisation of her novel of the same name, as the best ever film adaptation of her work?
I've corrected Talk:Lola T93/30, but it might be worth checking out how/why it happened. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 01:31, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- I've also just noticed this here, I'm not sure where I can find the correct hook however. Smartse (talk) 15:40, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
