Recent changes
- MediaWiki now supports the semantic web standards of Microdata and RDFa 1.0. On Wikimedia projects, a configuration change must be requested in order to enable RDFa 1.0. [1] [2]
Problems
- Adding references with Citoid was broken for approximately 6 hours on 24 March. This was fixed. [3]
Changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 March. It will be on all wikis from 31 March (calendar).
- You will be able to remove the header and footer style from User language (babel) boxes. This will make it easier to use them with other userboxes. [4]
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with part of the Architecture committee, which will discuss a few topics. The meeting will be on 30 March at 21:00 (UTC). See how to join.
- The Architecture committee has sent a summary of new and ongoing RFC discussions.
Future changes
- Commons will soon have improved access to Wikidata's data. It will then be possible to access data about any concept on any page on Commons. Assistance with testing this on the beta cluster is appreciated. [5]
- Wikibits.js will not be loaded by default anymore starting April 2016. Gadget and script authors should have already updated their code since the previous announcements, but there is another migration path available if needed. See wikitech-l for details.
Corrections
- Last week Tech News said the new MediaWiki version would come to wikis from 21 March to 23 March. The right dates were 22 March to 24 March.

Hi. A while ago I re-created the article on former Zutons frontman Dave McCabe in the wake of his solo career, and re-directed an article on the bands first guitarist back to the page on the Zutons as he has not done anything notable outside of the band (plus the article has unreferenced false birth details - he was born in Liverpool). However, the other day the user who added the unreferenced information removed the re-direct and I reverted that (as they have not added anything else to the article to demonstrate notablity) - they have responded by then re-directing the article on Dave McCabe. To avoid an edit war I've left a message on their talk page, but suspect it will continue. As an admin, coudl you please advise? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tonybigears (talk • contribs) 11:12, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, looks like the other user has re-instated the redirect and placed categories on it so that is fine. The article on Dave McCabe they have now PRODed so the best course of action would be to quickly improve that article so that it passes the guidelines for a stand alone article and then the PROD can be removed. I would try to go for something more than the bare minimum as they will probably then go for an AFD which would have more people look at the article to decide it it should be deleted or remain. UFO sightings early 1950's by Policemen, Public etc.....I was early teens and remember seeing the UFO on returning with my family early evening from a Picnic, just outside Ansty, Coventry.....
I would like to know if you have any Papers still on file with the event. I remember my Dad reading it to me from the Coventry Evening Telegragh and saying Judy Other people have seen what you and I did......We saw a Orange Flying Saucer just above some trees as we were coming back into Coventry via Ansty Village, and it kept up with us for at least 10 mins, Dad thought if was reflection of light on the window of the Car, but no Street Lights, just the Car Headlights....it was reported next day many sightings.......thanks Judith Kelly, used to live at 191 Tennyson Road, Stoke Coventry, now residing in Perth, Western Australia..........hope to hear soon... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.186.151.139 (talk • contribs) 12:00, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, sorry but I was not in Coventry in the 1950s. Had a look on the British Newspaper Archive and they only have Coventry Telegraph Newspapers up to 1949 so not very helpful. May be you could contact the newspaper via their web site http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/ Keith D (talk) 12:29, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation problems
KeithD; sorry to be a pain, but I have an issue with which you may be able to Help. I am in the process of creating an article about Bradford Beck; it is as yet unfinished, but in the infobox, two of the streams that are tributaries are coming up with a Wikilink to a disambiguation page without me entering the Wikilink - it does it automatically! When you look at the source text, the words Westbrook and Eastbrook don't have the [[ ]] parenthese around them, so I can't strip that out to stop the Wikilink. Any ideas?

- Unsure how {{Geobox}} works these out it is a bit of black art, though I think that they are trying to get rid of it and have removed some of the options in recent years. May be you could use {{infobox river}} instead. Keith D (talk) 22:03, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
- Roger thanks for that. Incidentally, the Robert Walpole section referenced above, this is in the lede/lead; He dominated the Walpole–Townshend Ministry and the Ministry and holds the record as the longest serving Prime Minister in British history. It doesn't make sense to me what the second ministry is? I'd change it, but I have no idea on what to change it to.
Thanks for the tip about the Infobox. Regards. The joy of all things (talk) 22:18, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks, Keith; Infobox River has worked a treat! The joy of all things (talk) 22:28, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Quick note to say that after the mediation attempt failed, I lodged the issue at WP:COI today. The editor also reverted the restore today again; any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated. Karst (talk) 14:55, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
- Looks like another editor has waded in to the article at the moment, if this is reverted then I think that I will have to protect the article but that may not be in the state that you want. I would wait and see how the WP:COI goes, hopefully more editors will step in who have some knowledge on the subject matter. Keith D (talk) 16:21, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will step away from it for the moment.Someone did a rather strange WP:ANI report on me anyway.Karst (talk) 18:38, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
- Could be another WP:SOCK? Keith D (talk) 18:44, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
- Different editor who once gave me an admin barnstar (I don't have admin rights) using her previous account. She created a second one (instead of transferring the name) and removed the barnstar just before lodging the WP:ANI from my talk page. Odd. Karst (talk) 18:54, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Karst fails to mention any of the crazy reversions he has made. Although I am unfamiliar with many Wikipedia guidelines, I know that Editors can't just get rid of cited content and good images because they don't like them. Eldorado74 - not WP:SOC
Hi This isn't Sock Puppetry by Eldorado. When I used the CandidLibraryEditors Karst repeatedly disrupted my edits. Many other editors can confirm that he disrupts. See my report for their talk pages. Eldorado came to me for help. Karst is now "enlisting editors in an edit war against Eldorado on the article J. Ralph. I do think he needs to be sorted out. Thanks. Limehous-0 (talk) 19:05, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
- Who am I enlisting? This is all rather puzzling. Not in the least as you have never edited the J. Ralph page. I fully understand you might have issues with some of the past edits on the Paloma Faith article, but those should really be discussed there. Karst (talk) 09:35, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Amending a re-direct
Keith - sorry to be a pain but I need some more help. The page Bradford Beck is ready to go, unfortunately it already exists as a re-direct. Looked at WP:EDRED & WP:RTOA and felt that to try and attempt the change from the re-direct page would be a little out of my league. Can you help? the page I have created is now a draft here Draft:Bradford Beck and just needs to cancel out the re-direct. Thank you. The joy of all things (talk) 21:52, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
- I have moved the article into main space. I have also moved the routemap out into a template to keep it separate from the article. Keith D (talk) 22:47, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi Keith. I have just posted a question on the (soon to be renewed - 17 April 2016) Stanedge Pole Talk:Stanedge Pole page. Perhaps you have accurate information about the parish boundary? 86.167.191.243 (talk) 15:07, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Access dates for NYC Subway stations
Thanks for fixing the accessdates for the NYC Subway articles that I've just updated. I have just now realized that the accessdate is wrong. Should I help you fix them? epicgenius: unlimited epicness (talk) 19:44, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
- You can do. I am just working through those that have been added to the error category as they appear on my watchlist. If they get removed from the error category then I should get a removed rather than added message. Keith D (talk) 19:48, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

East Riding elections
East Riding of Yorkshire Council elections * East Riding of Yorkshire Council election, 2015
I'm having trouble updating two pages. One is the East Riding election page under the heading by-elections. I've updated the by-elections however the Labour candidates aren't showing the red box, just grey and the link isn't appearing. The other page is the East Riding election 2015 page where I've tried to put in an infobox outlining the overall results however it doesn't seem to be working properly. Below is the edit I've tried to make with a source. Can you help please?

Change of date in a maintenance tag.
Hello, Keith. You made an edit at Charles Salvador with the edit summary "date formats per MOS:DATEFORMAT by script", but as well as correcting the format of a date, the edit also changed the date in a maintenance tag from August 2014 to April 2016. I am sure that was just a mistake, but I am letting you know so that you can watch out to avoid similar mistakes in future. (I have changed the date back.) The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 18:00, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
- No it was correct, once the dates have been aligned the date in the {{use dmy dates}} or {{use mdy dates}} is updated to flag the fact and then others will know when the last alignment of dates took place on. Keith D (talk) 18:05, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
Sorry again Keith, could you please check latest refs/edits for this page. Then it should be all done. I am too tired and confused. Thanks as always 101.189.0.102 (talk) 12:09, 24 April 2016 (UTC)

Problems
- Wikimedia tested a new data center last week. This meant that the wikis could be read but not edited for 45 minutes on April 19 and for 20 minutes on April 21. [22]
- When the data center was tested, new edits were not shown in the recent changes log for 20 minutes. They are in the logs now. You can read more about how to find the edits.
- Unread notifications were sometimes counted incorrectly. This has now been fixed. [23]
Changes this week
- Wikimedia Commons will have better access to Wikidata. They can use data from any page on Wikidata on any page on Commons. This will happen on April 26. [24]
- It will be easier to choose if you want to watch files you have uploaded with the upload wizard. [25]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from April 26. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from April 27. It will be on all wikis from April 28 (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on April 26 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The "Save page" button when you edit will be called "Publish" instead. This is to help new editors understand what it does. It already works like this on some wikis. [26]
