Hi Keith. Do you think this is OK? I wasn't sure and I'm not an admin and didn't want to get up the guy's nose unnecessarily. It's not the most offensive thing I've ever seen here (!) but I did worry a little about its wisdom. But maybe it's fine. Would you mind having a look please? Thanks! Best wishes DBaK (talk) 21:48, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi, had a look and it could be a bit provocative to other users. May be drop them a note on talk page to see if they would mind changing it to less offensive wording. Keith D (talk) 22:05, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I have had a little try. Watch this space ... best wishes DBaK (talk) 22:22, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
Looks like someone thinks it is a sock account and has blocked it. Keith D (talk) 22:27, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
Yup - I've been overtaken by events it would seem. Ho hum. Thanks anyway for your help. DBaK (talk) 22:29, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject Yorkshire Newsletter - June 2014

Hi Keith. Please could you kindly look at what is happening to the above article, and its talk page. Today and yesterday there has occurred a large number of edits made by a single editor to this Good Article, in which a few valid copyedits were made, many arbitrary and unnecessary changes to language were made, some erroneous changes to content/meaning were made, and some updates which may have been valid but not discussed in advance on the talk page. In the middle of this massive edit, your own valid copyedit, removing the word "was" was reverted for no good reason by the same editor. I have reverted all of this accumulated two-day edit, and put a message on the talk page asking for discussion before each detail is changed. However this editor may respond in a problematic manner, as has happened previously regarding edits of Wetherby Town Hall, so this is why I am asking you whether you could please kindly monitor the situation and intervene if/when you see fit. Thank you. --Storye book (talk) 11:27, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Yorkshire Newsletter

Hello mate, I'm aware that you're behind the Wikiproject Yorkshire Newsletter, which I receive monthly for being a member of Wikiproject Yorkshire. I've had an idea, I was wondering if it would be possible in future to advertise the Leeds Wikimedia meetups? It is going to be our third meet-up in Leeds (the only current one in Yorkshire) and we'd like to get a bigger turn out of Yorkshire wikipedians. I think the Wikiproject Yorkshire Newsletter would be a great opportunity to notify Yorkshire wikipedians of the Leeds Wikimedia meetups. I think many Yorkshire wikipedians are unaware of the meetups in Leeds and this is a great opportunity for Yorkshire Wikipedians to meetup and discuss all things Wikipedia and Yorkshire. It'd also be an opportunity to expand Wikiproject Yorkshire. The next meetup is this Saturday. Kind regards IJA (talk) 17:03, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi, many thanks for the idea, will not be possible for the one this weekend but if I know about it the month before it happens then I could publicise it in the monthly newsletter. You can write a paragraph that I can insert into the newsletter if you like or if I know it is coming up then I can put something together to see if we can get more people to attend or get involved. Keith D (talk) 18:17, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
Cheers Keith. The newsletter goes out towards the beginning of the month, so next time I'm aware of another meet up, I'll inform you before the newsletter goes out. There was a York meet up back in 2011, I'm going to try and sort out another one at some point. Regards IJA (talk) 18:38, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

changes

Hi, or as someone said to me a short while ago, heyup, and I had to stop and think as it was a long time since I’d heard that

It’s nice to know someone is taking an interest in my hard work, I had a quick look at your profile and it says you are a male native speaker of English, like me, but then it sez thas from Yorkshire; you are also an exile, again like me, probably doing missionary work, but you’re daan sarf and I’m oop north just over the border in Durham County But down to the nitty gritty. You had altered my Yorkshire Cup articles, and I bow to your greater superior knowledge re your comments on the text box (although the text box on my first article on the Lancashire cup, yonks ago, was modified by A N Other), so please carry out any modification required and also reference the bolding (which was my error and is easily rectified). However, I disagree with your change to the wording, which now doesn’t make sense. The Yorkshire cup is a metal article and not an occasion, and it was held by the winning captain/team, the occasion was the date The articles were rough checked by several friends prior to entering on Wiki, and speaking to them since, they agree that “mine is better than yours” Maybe my phrasing wasn’t perfect, but rather than both of us playing silly things, I would like to hear more of your thoughts on the errors in my phrase I’m sure between us we can come up with the perfect answer, Thanks in anticipation Alan

Alanfromwakefield (talk) 10:24, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
Hi, the change I made was to bring the articles in line with the WP:MOS where it indicates the articles normally start with the article title in bold text. As the first word would be a number I inserted the word "The" before this as you do not start sentences with a number. The name of the competition is presumably Yorkshire Cup so the way I phrased it was suitable indicating it was the competition that took place in that particular year. Keith D (talk) 11:32, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

I've corrected the page number of the reference. Mjroots (talk) 15:52, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

Change of date format in footnote on number format on Triumph TR7 Sprint

I shall have to check the certificate referenced in the article, but I think the format that was used is that on the certificate being referred to. And since this is a footnote specifically on the subject of numerical format, and on the basis of Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Dates and numbers#Quotations, titles, etc., I shall return the article to using that format and make it clear that this is a reproduction of what is there, despite that being a format that is deprecated by the MoS, whatever the reason for that may be.

The only alternative I can see would be to cite a reference in the footnote, which seems to me to be a bit too incestuous.

Graham.Fountain | Talk 08:11, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

There was rather a mixture of date formats in the article and standardising it seemed appropriate. None appeared to be direct quotes and so appeared to be modifiable. Keith D (talk) 09:29, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Referencing

Hi Keith. As you know recently I've been adding quite a few articles on Lincs Grade I churches - a happy hunting ground. I would like advice on referencing architectural detailing. National Heritage, Kelly's, Cox and Pevsner are good sources, but in abbreviated form and typically very limited, which I develop somewhat elaborately, and enthusiastically stray into involved description based on photos I've taken, and use this within the info from the sources above. I am a little uncomfortable about this kind of thing which might be seen as original research and hiding non-reffed stuff within reffed—something I come down hard upon in others—even though the pictures show clearly the fact of the written detail. Can I use an inline citation link to the photos on Wikimedia to prove the text ? Am I straying onto dodgy ground with the developed text ? Any advice ? Acabashi (talk) 13:06, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi, difficult one this best advice I could locate was this which seems to imply that they are not useful as sources but can be used to give obvious descriptive details. Hope this helps. Keith D (talk) 13:26, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for that. I suppose if the "descriptive details" use could be seen as reasonable, how do I point to the details in photos. I think I will get further advice from the Wikipedians involved in that discussion. Acabashi (talk) 14:11, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
I have opened up a discussion on this here. Thanks. Acabashi (talk) 15:24, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi Keith. Would you consider a semi-protect on this one please ? Thanks. Acabashi (talk) 22:08, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

Looks sensible, I have given it a month semi-protection for now. If it needs longer then let me know when protection lapses. Keith D (talk) 22:13, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

07:07, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi Keith. Please could you kindly give me some advice on this one? It's the same problem and technically so far I've done two reverts (one compound 8 June, one simple 8 July). I don't want to do a third. I have explained the difficulty at great length and detail on the discussion page. I think the editor concerned believes he/she is well-intentioned, but has so far been unable to learn that his/her edits are not helpful. The editor is also refusing to discuss on the talkpage before editing.--Storye book (talk) 14:37, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi, cannot immediately think of what to do with this one. There is some engagement on the talk page which is at least promising but resorting to IP edits is not very helpful, especially as it leaves a red-link in the infobox. The new section on the accident needs looking at as the English needs sorting out as it does not read right in places. I think that all you can do is to try and engage the editor on the talk page and to correct errors they introduce. If there are specific content problems then you could try Third opinion or Request for comment but probably over the top. Hope this helps. Keith D (talk) 21:43, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Because you commented at this discussion, I would appreciate your views at this RfC on the larger issue of DOI templates. Thanks! -- Ricky81682 (talk) 05:24, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

Bradford History

Hi there. I am new to wiki and noticed your edit of Bradford page. I am not sure yet how to edit. I think 3 important events are missing and wondered if you might add them. Even if it just a sentence for each event The wool combers strike 1825 The planned chartist uprising (to join in with Newport uprising Dec 1839) in Jan 1840 The 1842 plug riots (general strike ) at Halifax when Bradfordians marched to Halifax , some armed

All the best — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.205.237.93 (talk) 13:59, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

I have put in a sentence about the wool-combers strike as I found a place to fit it into the text, though I could not find the page number for the reference as Google books did not give the page numbers. I could not find anywhere to fit the other items into the text as it stands. If you have any suggestions then I can revisit. May be we need to think about creating a History of Bradford article to give more details. Keith D (talk) 01:25, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I was just wondering where you found the names of Matty Fryatt's parents? Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 22:53, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Check edit

Hi. I recently tagged a new user's article for deletion. I then checked their contribs and saw they made this change to an article which you'd previously reverted a similar edit. I'm assuming you know something about this athlete then, so could you please check if this edit is also vandalism? Thanks, Brambleclawx 22:37, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

Looks like someone has already reverted this. I assumed it was vandalism as the height change what rather drastic and was not in accordance with the external link on the page. Keith D (talk) 22:52, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

Consider unblock

User_talk:Ulfarf | You denied this user's unblock request under If you can pledge to avoid any other promotional activities, and outline what topics you would like to contribute to instead, it may be possible to move forward. As it is, you don't appear to be acting transparently. The user has done that, but in a rambling motion, but done it nonetheless. However, I like to assume good faith to exponential proportions, so as a result I am going to request that you unblock the user under the condition that they are banned from linking to any external site pending community consensus to the contrary as a term for unblock. Reblocks are very cheap, and a single edit out of line and it'll be back to indef. I know that you doing such does not seem very likely, so I won't fault you if you decline my request. I just want to see what articles they'll contribute to other than spamming links, given the condition of the ban on that specific portion. So in summary, I want you to give him some rope and he'll hang himself if he does it again. Tutelary (talk) 01:53, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for delay in responding but internet connection appears to be very poor at the moment and have only just managed to achieve a connection, after several tries during the day. I was the one who blocked the user, the denial you quoted above was by User:Kuru. I will take a look and see if an unblock is suitable though you will have to monitor the user's contributions closely to see if they overstep the mark. Regards. Keith D (talk) 17:49, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

Suggest unprotect

Years ago you protected {{Track gauge/metric}} (edit talk history links # /subpages /doc /doc edit /sbox /sbox diff /test) (then named {RailGauge/metric}). Since the parent template is in Lua now for a year, this one is abandoned and deprecated. I suggest you remove the protection. -DePiep (talk) 18:59, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

Same for its abandoned twin sister {{Track gauge/imperial}} (edit talk history links # /subpages /doc /doc edit /sbox /sbox diff /test) . -DePiep (talk) 19:15, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

Jahraldo-Martin

caluam jahraldo-martin has no squad number at hull city this year so why are you and others continually adding him to the squad list? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.100.248.212 (talk) 16:52, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

Because he has not left the club and made appearances in the pre-season matches - it does not matter if he has a squad number or not. Keith D (talk) 17:06, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

So you make up your own rules re Caluam Jahraldo-martin saying "it doesn't matter" if that's the case then what's the point of Wikipedia? factually incorrect information put on here by people like yourself. He isn't listed in the squad, has no squad number, and shouldn't be on the list. You also shouldn't be making up your own rules either — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.100.248.212 (talk) 08:10, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

can u answer the question re your cyber bullying and making up your own rules re Wikipedia — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.100.248.212 (talk) 09:40, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

You mis-read what I said. I said that a number is not the criteria for being in the list it is presence on the roll of the club. Caluam Jahraldo-Martin is still with the club as he played during pre-season so should be in the list. What evidence have you that he has left the club apart from absence from the players page?
