- Oh, and I forgot to ask. What should I know about changes since I was last here (like 2 years ago!), so I don't get myself into trouble so quickly? Keilana|Parlez ici 18:32, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
There's been a few changes, including the inactive administrators proposal. Many of the users that were active back in 2008 became inactive sadly, few prominent users, most notably User:Rlevse got embroiled into massive controversy which led to a lost of adminship. RFA is practically dead with one or two users passing RFA a month on average. Monobook was replaced by vector.js, Twinkle became a add-on tool every registered user can add in their pref, Wikipedia:Flagged revisions went through a trial and more or less rejected. We gotten way much stricter in copyright and plagiarism concerns, which is one of our biggest advances, plus despite the lack of extremely experienced users now, vandalism and junk is at a all time low, with being a reason. Wikipedia:New Page Triage is something you will extremely interested. Too much to list, signpost can also help. Thanks Secret account 21:17, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
- Damn, I hadn't realized we'd lost so many experienced editors. Or that RfA is now so hard to pass! I've been slowly catching up on the Signpost while editing and some stuff may take getting used to. Thanks for summarizing - I really appreciate it! Keilana|Parlez ici 21:22, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Since this thread has been closed I'll reply here. I wasn't suggesting a block based on vandalism he performed back in July. However, I did think that it was something that anybody reviewing the thread needed to know. The main problem seems to be his current extreme POV as this is "Wikipedia" not "DRMsucksapedia". What the past vandalism might indicate is that there's a possibility that he's just screwing with us. In any case the thread is closed and he's been warned. --Ron Ritzman (talk) 02:00, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Should "Back from Ashes" be "Delete without prejudice to recreation when ensemble becomes notable"?
[edit]If Two Dollar Grey is "Delete without prejudice to recreation when ensemble becomes notable", shouldn't "Back from Ashes" be listed similarly?--Jax 0677 (talk) 13:25, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- Well yeah, as far as I know, any deleted article is deleted without prejudice to re-creation given that it wasn't salted or specifically prohibited from re-creation. Listing it as such just makes it abundantly clear that it may be recreated sometime in the future...I personally don't think it matters all that much. I can put a note on the AfD, though, if you want. Keilana|Parlez ici 19:53, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

- Hello there. We've had 8 reverts at Requests_for_comment/Muhammad_images in the last 24 hours. It seems that there are many editors who would like the RfC to remain open while others believe it is closed. Perhaps your input would be valuable here. Clarifying the RfC's status is needed. Thanks. - I'm posting this here, on AN, and on the RfC/its talk page. I'm going to disregard any comments made after Xavexgoem closed. I'm also going to disregard any comments - especially inflammatory comments - made on the talk page after the RfC's conclusion. I don't know what Black Kite and Someguy are doing, and will of course take those comments into consideration should the three of us decide that it's necessary to determine the consensus. I would also like to point out to everyone involved that edit-warring over comments on the RfC is kind of annoying, and request that they stop. Thanks again to all who participated. Block needed
[edit]Would you mind enforcing BLP by blocking Cabj1905? Despite my warning on his/her talk, Cabj is revert-warring to add unsourced BLP information to an article, including negative material: saying that someone was unable to win a competition. Nyttend (talk) 05:34, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- The scores say that half of the individuals who were mentioned lost in competitions — simple negative statements about living individuals absolutely require sources. Anyway, the user has been repeatedly adding unsourced information (and repeatedly deleting the unsourced-section template, so it's not likely to be a simple oversight like it was when I removed it a few hours ago), and there's a good reason that {{uw-unsor4}} is a redirect to {{uw-vand4}} rather than being a level-4 don't-add-unsourced-information. Nyttend (talk) 06:38, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry to keep piling on comments, but you'll notice from Cabj's talk page history that s/he received a warning of having violated 3RR already (left by Mtking), so Jasper and I aren't the only ones believing a 3RR block to be in question too. Nyttend (talk) 06:42, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- No need to keep me posted: I'll not be online for a while. It's 3AM here, and I'll be heading off to church almost as soon as I wake up in several hours. Thanks for the updates. Nyttend (talk) 06:59, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Looks like you will have to block me (and several thousands of other users) from updating wikipedia because I have done absolutely nothing different for UFC 145 than has been done for every single event prior to that. I suggest you see my changes to the article before obliging to that guy's request because I did nothing wrong (or at least nothing that hasn't been done before and still stands for all other UFC events). I updated event results. Never before UFC 145 have fight results had sources. I didn't slander people's biographies like that user suggests. If I do get blocked, so be it. Questions On Being Blocked
[edit]- Keilana. I sent an email yesterday asking questions about being blocked. Wanted to make sure you got it as I haven't heard anything back so far. I also would like to get an idea when I might have my questions answered. Please respond to my talk page. If I need to post my questions here again, I will. Please let me know. Angelone7749 (talk) 20:13, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
I got your message on my talk page. Since you didn't get my email I created an new section, moved my earlier post to this new section and have copies by earlier email below. It's a bit long, but I had a lot to cover. I would appreciate your response as soon as possible.
Hi Keilana;
I've been out of town for a few days and I come back to see my site is blocked for suspected "abusing multiple accounts". Where does this come from?
I have one Wikipedia account as Angelone7749. I don't know what I need to do to prove I have only one account. Please tell me how I verify this issue.
My question is who reported such an activity? I have looked at places on Wikipedia that this reporting is suppose to be done and I do not find anything. I know someone requested the block and my guess would be a contributor named Orlady.
I ask this question because Orlady has demonstrated that they are not abiding by the neutral POV rule. He/she expresses several opinions that clearly state their bias and more recently Orlady has reverted numerous of my contributions in the main article. I think this contributor is much more involved in the Wikipedia behind the scenes culture and rules than I am. They appear to be using that gained working knowledge, and their relationships to active Wikipedia administrations and personnel to block my editing of the site in an attempt to suppress my different opinions.
You can read the talk section under "Controversies Section Edits 2012" to see the exchange. It appears that as soon as any contributors started to agree with my position, it triggered the block request. Perhaps this person is so opinionated they can't believe anyone else would agree with the points I am making.
At the hub of the disagreement is that I am stating that a site recognized by the State of California and their regulatory authority on Private Post-secondary Education, the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) recognizes Education Services as the official custodian of records for PWU - California. There seems to be lots of opinions on the topic, but neither Orlady, nor any other contributor, can quote any source that would override this Official California State Recognition as a reliable source. Orlady in fact openly challenges the State of California's BPPE as a unreliable third party source on this issue. Of course, all of this is opinion and I found it hard to believe that anyone could actually ask others to consider this personal opinion above the credibility of a State Bureau. My repeated question to Orlady was, if the State of California and their official regulatory agency in the State is not a reliable source to verify Education Services standing as custodian of records, who is?
If Orlady, or anyone else, can deny a legitimate source because they have been a Wikipedia contributor longer than I and obviously has connections to administrators and insiders in Wikipedia that I do not, is this not abuse of the system? Orlady, or whoever made the claim against me, may know how to manipulate the system, but do these actions serve the credibility of Wikipedia or the neutrality of the main article?
Consider this: If I am a PWU California graduate and I search for PWU California in Wikipedia and I am redirected to the California Miramar University Page, I should be able to find out that accreditation requires all PWU California records be kept separate of CMU records because the accrediting body and the State of California consider the two schools as separate educational institutions. This is an important fact and as an alumni of PWU California I need would need to know exactly who is the official custodian of records for my student records, where I can find them and know that the State of California verifies that this is the legitimate custodian of my student records. This is the type of information Wikipedia is suppose to contain. In this case, I tried to add this information, only to have the material reverted or significantly changed by Orlady several times for several "reasons". Orlady has deliberately edited out the fact that the State of California recognizes Education Services as the official custodian of records. Orlady has tried to minimize the information because he/she doesn't agree with the information. This is abusive behavior and should not be allowed.
I know this is not the proper forum for this discussion but I would like to suggest that PWU California might need to have its own article on Wikipedia. Since the State of California and the accrediting agencies officially consider CMU as a separate entity from PWU California due to the way PWU California was purchased (an asset sale) and the verifiable fact that both the State and the accreditation bodies list the foundation date of CMU 2005, what is any information concerning PWU California prior to CMU's foundation date doing in this article in the first place?
Using opinion and abusing the Wikipedia system to silence, even for a few days, those who are not in agreement with you opinions, is not in keeping with Wikipedia policy and should not be tolerated.
This main article was locked down in the past due to contention. I can see why this contention occurred when you have zealots who hold themselves above the State Authority and want to restrict the content of the Main Article to suit their strongly held personal opinions.
I await your answers on the questions of: 1. What do I need to do to prove I don't have multiple accounts? 2. Who was the contributor that made the request to block my site and where on Wikipedia was the blocking request made in writing? 3. Your relationship to the person who requested the block, if any. 4. How can I make a formal complaint about abuse of process on this Contributor on this block request and the questionable editing practices? 5. What process can I explore to make this contributor discuss future edits with me on my contributions prior to making the edits, as I requested of Orlady in the talk section before the request was made to block my site. 6. Your opinion on Education Services as a verified source on records and student information concerning PWU California. 7. Your opinion on PWU California having its own Wikipedia article.
Thank you,

Cut and paste move
[edit]Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Tweakhere a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Tweakhere/Archive. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. jfd34 (talk) 04:16, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
References in GA nominations
[edit]On the GA page of Bivalvia you state: "In general, your references are formatted inconsistently." I am currently doing a GA review of another article, Boddingtons. My review is much less thorough than yours but it has got to the stage where I have asked the nominator to improve the formatting of the references. I would like to clarify in my own mind exactly what GA criterion (2) means. My question then, - is it essential (or merely desirable) for an article to have well formatted references to pass GA or is the fact that the references lead to reliable sources the important thing? This has particular relevance to whether I pass or fail Boddingtons if the nominator takes no further action. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:57, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

I'm one of the reviewers for the GOCE May drive, and I went over this article (randomly selected from those you'd done; we try to check about 1 in 10 of them). You closed this AFD as a merge April 13. Will it be possible for you to do the merge and redirect to the school district at some point? Thanks. Edison (talk) 17:22, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
- For an example of a school article being merged into the school district or locality, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Saint Joan of Arc School. Thanks. Edison (talk) 17:26, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for your efforts! No rush. I don't do that many merges, but a key thing seems to be putting the name of the source article in the edit summary in the target article if any text is merged into it, and adding the template to the talk page of the target article. Hello. You recently deleted this page. I was wondering who nominated it (I'm the creator) and why it was deleted? It had three entries, all of which had an article or met MOS:DABRL and MOS:DABMENTION. It is clearly a valid disambiguation page. User:A Brutus speedy nominated it a couple of days ago. He/she didn't inform me, and didn't respond to my polite message saying that I should have been informed. Please let me know, thanks, Boleyn (talk) 12:41, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. Just wanted to check who nominated it? Thanks, Boleyn (talk) 15:39, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Just seen that it was the same person, A:) Brunus, who nominated it without telling me. He's then ignored my message saying that you should inform creator, and to take to AfD if he had further concerns. He's then nominated it for a speedy again, with no edit summary and not telling me. I've left a message, again, on his Talk page...should I just leave it at that and hope he doesn't do it again? Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 16:13, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Bivalvia
[edit]When the WikiProject Bivalves was started at the beginning of the year, someone lamented the fact that Bivalvia was not even a GA. This was what stimulated me to get to work on it. I now wonder, after you have done such a detailed review, whether the objective is GA or ultimately FA. I have virtually no experience of the latter (and little of the former) and don't know quite what is needed. If the objective is GA, I would think that the article might be considered to have a broad enough scope already. If it is to go further, I can think of a further 2/3 topics I could include - evolutionary history, use by humans and toxicity. I would be interested to know what you think.
I have now worked my way through your list of suggestions for the article, adding some additional material and sources on the way. Thanks for all your help. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:51, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply on my talk page. I will work towards FA then and add the sections I mentioned above. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:27, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Hello Keilana, I saw you had indicated interest in reviewing Hurricane Gilbert. Unfortunately, Jeffrey Gu has been inactive for more than 1 1/2 months (No edits since March 22: [2]). I would suggest that you post your comments on that page and fail it (most of the editors in my project do not think it is worthy enough to be considered a GA, even after a review); this will allow others to see potentially how to improve Gilbert and possibly pick up the tab and finish it. Additionally, doing like this will also not leave you hanging there.--12george1 (talk) 21:48, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
User NinaHj
[edit]Can you clearify whats the rationale behind indefinite blocking of User:NinaHj? I have a real problem with how I shall explain this block, and it could be nice to have a clear and concise explanation of why the indefinite block was used, which statements you used when you reasoned about the block, and which rules you believe supprts this indefinite block. Thanks for your understanding, and proper explanation. Jeblad (talk) 22:23, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hi! Thanks for your note. First of all, she was disruptively blanking a template despite more than one warning. That, combined with her incredibly biased edits to the article about her website and the threat to "take the matter further" if the article wasn't changed was enough to tip the scales for me. If you want, you can always ask for a block review at AN, but I hope that's enough explanation. Keilana|Parlez ici 02:27, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
- I can't see why this isn't a one day block, an indefinite block is way above what I can explain as a reasonable. The article about the website is not even close to Wps own standards and should be fixed asap. Jeblad (talk) 08:08, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Decision regarding Muhammad Images RFC
[edit]Hi Keilana.
Question: - Is a decision about WP:RFC/Muhammad images forthcoming or is it already out?
It's been weeks since the RfC was closed. FYI, I concur with your view that “a correct interpretation of community consensus is far more important than a speedy interpretation of community consensus.”
But, is it out yet? And, as you might already know, talk page of the said RfC got closed which, in turn, deprived editors like me of the chance to air this query. Hence, I post this query on your talk-page. Brendon ishere 13:33, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Brendon, I don't know where Black Kite and Someguy are in the process, but I've written a decent chunk of my personal analysis and I expect that we'll come to an agreement within a week or two. I'm sorry it's taking so long. Just so you know, when we do post a decision, it will at least be posted to the ArbCom case page and to the RfC, if not elsewhere as it's binding. {HELP} Thanks for your note. I didn't realize that you have to be famous etc to be listed in the scholars section. Some students put up a bio for me, with my information. I received a very unprofessional response from someone Humanv2.0. He was quite unpleasant. In the case of the posting the place of employment etc is all accurate and the people I have been influenced by, the one that are alive anyway, I have worked directly with. The others are of course dead. References are down at the bottom. Anyway, nevertheless, I instructed students to remove the wiki. I would like to voice a complaint with someone who manages this group. The person who wrote to at first was just out of line. Cheers! Transit of Venus 1639
[edit]I see from your request on Malleus's talk page that you have an interest and some expertise in astronomy. As you may know the second of a pair of Transits of Venus is due on the 5th and 6th of June and to mark this twice in a lifetime event I've asked the FA director, Raul, to consider putting the Transit of Venus article on the front page on the 5th. I have also knocked up an article in my sandbox here to tell the story of the 1639 transit which I hope to get into the DYK section for that day. I became interested in the story as I live a only mile or so away from where Crabtree made his observation but I have very little expertise in astronomy. Do you think you could read through it and see if I got the technical bits correct? Please feel free to make any changes you think it needs although I will be asking Malleus to do a copy edit before it goes to DYK in the next few days. I should also say that I know the lead is too short and I'm just about to expand it now the article is more or less complete. Thanks in anticipation. Richerman (talk) 22:59, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
New section
[edit]{Help} Hello, and thanks for you kind note. (I tried to send a note to you but I was signed off so I don't think it arrived) I am beginning to become a big fan of wikipedia and the work of Wales and people like you (and one other person who responded to me). I would hope there is some way to restrain the occasional Humanv2.0. All of the info I put there on the site is true and factual. Actually, I only put recent publications to keep it short. I really did not know that I couldn't put up a bio. Actually, I gave the info to students who said they will put up the info; and I gave them my password with is a standard university password. Also, once I received your first note, I sent an email to the students to take my info off of wiki. Below is my response to Humanv2.0 who would not reveal who he was or his manager. It's fine, but he has to have 'peer' review from others as well. I hope that something can be done about him. At one point, he wrote to me saying we was GOD Muhhhaaha, (then he said no seriously).... This is not professionalism, or well, decent at all. Here is my response to him: (I sincerely hope he doesn't do this again to others)
--Well, I can see that this is unhelpful. All of the info I did write and I asked students to help put it up. They took over the process and yes, used my email or username. I thought that it was ok to put personal bios wikipedia, other friends have done so. I had no idea that you could not write your own bio. Whenever and academic does anything professionally, including CV, s/he writes a bio. It's a common thing. Actually, my reasoning is that by putting a bio up on wikipedia would prevent me from having to maintain a personal website. So, all of this ego issue is fairly strange when all of that info I put up is factual - and not massive - it was 1.5 A4 sized paper. Another thing you didn't notice is that most of my academic influences ARE people I either work with now or have studied with. As for the dead, well you seem to expect some kind of miracle from me. So, let's leave off with your self inflations and rhetorical references to yourself as God as you sit behind code and won't allow peer review of yourself. You mentioning that I should be familiar with peer review and thinking wikipedia is 'peer' review is absurd. I had no idea that though 'all can post' something, we can't post bios. It was an honest non-understanding on my part, because, well I don't use Wikipedia alot, or have no idea of how to post things (not a mistake), something you clearly have no concern other than to act as a 'peer board.' If you have debate with my publications, the recent ones are there at the bottom, the referenced ones, you can contact the reviews at those institutions. That's how academia works. That's how peer review works. I expect that you will follow journalistic integrity here and mine will be the last entry in this matter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hartsellml (talk • contribs) 23:16, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Professors
[edit]Hey, I know it can be difficult to deal with newbies, but you bit Hartsellml kinda hard. Maybe have a cup of tea or something? He could become a really valuable contributor. Thanks for keeping an eye on new pages - I know how much of a drag that can be. Keilana|Parlez ici 01:24, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
- Simple fact of the matter is that I did not say anything incorrect (correct me if I'm wrong). The page was put up incorrectly, and it was also a mess to boot. It also was expected that I was dealing with an individual who both (a) was the wiki's subject (b) had created the wiki. I've actually gone to more effort to try and explain the situation to him than everyone else combined, all the while with someone demanding to speak to my manager (which should lay out exactly how much this user is currently unaware of). As I said, "I'm not being harsh, I'm being blunt." The man's a professor, but that doesn't really change anything it seems. Human.v2.0 (talk) 08:23, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
- I understand, but bluntness can often come off as harshness. Yeah, he's kinda clueless, but I think he could be a good contributor if we don't scare him away first. Keilana|Parlez ici 13:30, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
- shrug I guess he's going to have to have words with my manager. Human.v2.0 (talk) 17:07, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Bivalvia again
[edit]Since you helped Bivalvia to achieve GA status, I have been working on the article to make it more comprehensive. I have added sections on "Use as food", "Use in controlling pollution", "Other uses", "Mariculture" and "Evolutionary history". The rest of the article is little changed though Invertzoo has been doing various tweaking. Would you be able to look at the new sections? Your help would be much appreciated. Are there any other essential topics that I have missed? I am looking forward to giving it a go as a FAC and have been watching with interest how you have been getting on with Andromeda. If Bivalvia achieves FA status I would prefer that to be achieved during the next round of the cup which starts on July 1st so I don't want to propose it too soon. Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)
[edit]In my opinion, the article is not yet qualified to be reviewed for GA as per WP:Recent. The song is still active in charts worldwide so a lot more new information could appear about the song. What do you think? — My December (talk) 08:35, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
- If that is the case, I think the article is ready to be reviewed for GA. In addition, the next single has started to receive airplay. Anyway, thanks a lot for the insight! :) — My December (talk) 23:21, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
- That would be great! I once nominated Kelly's Since U Been Gone for GA review. Halfway through, I forgot about the nomination and I didn't do the correction. Perhaps you can take a look and review it for GA? I would appreciate it. — My December (talk) 00:18, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

STiki revert
[edit]Hello, Keilana! Regarding this edit, I have undone it for the following reason: The denverchannel.com reference is not appropriate for a List of Players, for the list we use a reference from one of the Negro league websites, in this case seamheads.com since he did not have an entry at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum website (see the other refs used in the reflist). The denverchannel.com reference IS appropriate for the player's article and is used here. Just wanted to drop you a note to avoid any misunderstandings. Rgrds. For making Andromeda (constellation) a featured article and for being one of the very few wikipedia editors actually focusing on core articles of major importance. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:39, 3 June 2012 (UTC) |
Well, indeed, I think the time has come when we just have to stop and look at what it is we are really here for. Wikipedia becomes much more pleasurable when you can read and trust several articles in a row and not have to worry about expanding or sourcing it. It really is up to us to try to spread quality and develop wikipeia from a scruffy outline into a consistent high quality resource. The way wikipedia is currently set up though this will make the task impossible. Reform is badly needed and some form of incentive which gets editors to focus on core and high importance articles needs to be introduced.. Most editors opt for stubbing or low importance lower scale articles to develop to GA and beyond because they're easier to research.♦ Dr. Blofeld
What angers me is that the foundation potentially could raise a lot of money to fund into a monthly Core Article contest and Best Article contest which is strong enough to lure editors into producing high quality content but they do nothing. I've proposed in many times and the foundation never do anything as incentives to them is a taboo. A monthly contest could be held and indeed a Best Featured article prize at the end of the year or whatever with a handsome reward judged by a panel of editors involved with FA which would get editors to produce a great deal of good content for wikipedia. Personally I know a few people who would not touch wikipedia normally but if there was a reward for writing a piece they'd invest their time and effort in it. We rely on the good fortune of people and the vast majority of people are unwilling to go to the efforts needed of an FA without being compensated as they require a lot of effort and indeed patience to see it through. If the foundation truly want to improve quality I think they'd start introducing schemes which naturally attract a great deal more contributors to the website and indeed get many of those who spend most of their time engaged in wiki politics to contribute to what matters on here.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:15, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
- I cull for stubbing due to the fact that there are hundreds-of-thousands of missing articles here, which are currently ensconced and need to be covered in some way what-so-ever. I wouldn't participate in an 'edit-for-money' idea, that's just making the goal of the encyclopedia terrible - the goal is 'The Free Encyclopedia' - not where people get paid to edit. Wikipedia should not be phantasmagorical, where people dream of making money for editing, they should be editing to help. If there was one of them contests, the winner would end up overcharged with awe and probably never edit the encyclopedia again. Then what will happen is thine plausible antique pen will end up writing featured content for free, not for money, along with some few editors. As invariably, just my abhorrent contemplations. Regards, Thine Antique Pen (talk • contributions) 20:32, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Autopatrolled
[edit]It might be best to notify User:MBisanz that I have received this right and was nominated for it, just so there is no confusion. (I was topic banned from requesting rights myself by MBisanz, but I can still be nominated). --Thine Antique Pen (talk • contributions) 21:10, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, you should not have been granted it at all - my reading of the AN-imposed ban on obtaining rights meant no rights could be granted, whether someone else nominated you or not. Somehow that was not even mentioned in the "application". Besides, since when do we assign rights when someone else asks on your behalf? (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 09:04, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- Bwilkins, did you read WP:PERM? "Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent". Also, Blofeld does know of my restriction. Finally, I can "obtain" rights, but I can't ask for them myself. See User talk:MBisanz. Regards, Thine Antique Pen (talk • contributions) 09:12, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- "Did I read PERM" ... wanna throw more insults around during this discussion? As one of the regular patrollers at WP:RFP/C, I'm pretty sure I've read it once or twice. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 09:23, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- I would've thought autopatrolled would be exactly the sort of "right" that we assign "when someone else asks on your behalf", for obvious reasons.

- It's also worth noting what was said by MBisanz the last time this was discussed - which, as I read it, was that he has no objection to it if it's what the patrollers want (which seems to be what happened). --Demiurge1000 (talk) 09:21, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- Normally, I'd say "yes" - but in this case, since he was not permitted to have it the "normal route", doing it by "forcing people to beg that I have it" seems to have become his new direction (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 09:23, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

- That assumption seems to be as lacking in good faith as your assumption that his question above is an "insult". I'm not sure what the need for all the aggression is. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 09:34, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
First of all, I'm sorry somebody as esteemed as Keilana has got to put up with this on his talk page in what is an obvious simple thing. Sorry but I have to say folks you're making a mountain out of a mole hill over this. Yes he is very pushy, but he is also very keen, and wikipedia needs keen contributors. BWilkins, just give the guy a chance and see what happens. He has the potential in my opinion to develop into a great editor. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:52, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- As there is a discussion on WP:AN about this right now, there's no sense continuing it here - but his failure to disclose the limitation on permissions at the RFP/A is disturbing (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 10:12, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- I don't see a topic ban as constructive though. Newbies need to learn from their mistakes and develop into good editors. Punishing them for eternity for their earlier errors as they develop I think is wrong.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:34, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- Blofeld has previously participated in discussions about me and knows about the restriction. --Thine Antique Pen (talk • contributions) 12:18, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- Bwilkins, your comments on this topic are becoming increasingly ridiculous (not to mention, at AN, hypocritical). I noted the previous discussions (which included mention of the apparently arbitrary limitation) within an hour of Blofeld's post to RFP/A, and more than seven hours before TAP commented on it at all. I don't see what else you imagine he or anyone else would have been required to do or say about it. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 12:34, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the input, everyone, but all I've really got to say is that I saw a need for TAP to stop pissing off the NPPers when he was making perfectly fine stubs, so I filled that need. If the community agrees that that was dumb, by all means revert me, that's how we roll around here. And for what it's worth, I do appreciate healthy debate around here, so that's not a problem in any way! :) Keilana|Parlez ici 15:05, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Constellation references
[edit]I see you have been busy editing various constellation entries. In the process you have been referring to an older edition of my book with Wil Tirion, rather than the latest edition. I appreciate you referring to the book, but can you please update the reference and give complete publisher information, as follows: Ian Ridpath and Wil Tirion (2007). Stars and Planets Guide, Collins, London. ISBN 978-0-00-725120-9. Princeton University Press, Princeton. ISBN 978-0-691-13556-4. It's now the 4th edition, if you need to know that. Thanks, Ian. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.210.25.89 (talk) 22:00, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
- Hello, and thanks for your note! I've actually been citing that edition because I've only got access to the 2001 edition because both of the libraries I frequent only carry that edition as I've seen, and it's not viewable on Google Books. I also don't want to give citation information for a book or edition I don't have access to, as there could be a difference between editions or something. If you think it would be useful, I could put in a request at one of my libraries or something. What do you think? Also, I noticed you haven't edited before, perhaps you could make an account and contribute! If you have any questions, you can always post to my talk page or you can email me at keilanawikigmail.com. I'd love to hear from you! All the best, Keilana|Parlez ici 22:25, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
- Why not leave the 2007 edition as an additional reference, as it has been; that would cover it. Incidentally, note that the romanization of Chinese names in Staal’s book uses the old system of transliteration, which might introduce inconsistencies with the spellings given by our Chinese colleagues on the pages about Chinese constellations. Some of the star identities might be different, too, so this is worth cross-checking. Ian. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.210.31.116 (talk) 08:48, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
- Sure, I can put it in the references section and anyone who wants to can use a linked citation to that edition, and anyone who has the 2001 edition can cite it also, separately. I was wondering how the transliteration in Staal lined up with the transliterations you give in "Star Tales", and was going to check those after doing a massive formatting fix, but I don't know of any other sources to cross-check with. Could you recommend any? Keilana|Parlez ici 15:18, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors
The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their July 2012 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on July 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on July 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to eliminate the articles tagged in April, May and June 2011 from the queue and to complete all requests placed before the end of June. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 6 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in April–June 2011", and "Longest article". [edit]Bonjour Keilana,
With regards to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/FishingKing, now that FishingKing has confirmed that the abusive edits were made from his home (although he claims they were made by his brother), should we cancel the request for a CheckUser? It seems logical to me, but I am new at all this SPI stuff. Merci Mille Fois, Ebikeguy (talk) 23:42, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
- I added a note there, as he said his brother was using his account after him, which would make it a compromised account. Not to be overly bureaucratic, but that does raise a separate problem. Dennis Brown - 2¢ © 00:01, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
- I'm a little conflicted, WP:BROTHER is always a good excuse. I still think there's a good reason for CheckUser but if other clerks/the CUs disagree, that's fine with me. Keilana|Parlez ici 00:06, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
- Now he admits that it was him after all. He says he is sorry and promises to never do anything like that again. It's pretty clear that he is a young kid. He seems to have a relatively good heart, but his editing history is problematic. I'm glad that blocking decisions will be made "above my pay grade" (Can you use that phrase in a volunteer organization?). In any case, thanks for your help in this matter. - I've indef'ed both accounts. Maybe in 6 or 12 months he can ask to come back, but I think he is still lying about the IP vandalism, and he has obviously been lying about the socking to begin with, so indef is the only way to insure a little peace here. - The SPI page history where Fishingking commented without logging and then logged in and signed. Along with this comment on my talk page leaves no doubt that the IP account is also used by him. --DBigXray 14:40, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
- I can't find the diffs right now, but I am pretty sure they both used the spelling, "horassing" as well. Ebikeguy (talk) 15:06, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

- Now he admits that it was him after all. He says he is sorry and promises to never do anything like that again. It's pretty clear that he is a young kid. - I'm a little conflicted, WP:BROTHER is always a good excuse. I still think there's a good reason for CheckUser but if other clerks/the CUs disagree, that's fine with me. Keilana|Parlez ici 00:06, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
Yep, that's what I assumed; I would have indeffed had I been awake. :P Thanks all for your help! Glad this is sorted. Keilana|Parlez ici 16:19, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi! I tagged this page for speedy deletion yesterday as per WP: G5. It was deleted shortly after I tagged it, and I closed the MfD as deleted. Cheers! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 13:40, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
