Canvassing

Hi KaragouniS, you may not have been aware of it, but the kind of vote canvassing you've been doing for the football template is rather seriously frowned upon. Can I ask you to stop? Thanks, Fut.Perf. 13:59, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Ah yes, just going to say the same thing.  OzLawyer / talk  14:01, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Honestly, I have no idea what's going on in the football pages. Apparently there have been precedents and some perceived consensus among football editors that only world championship teams should have such templates. Nothing I personally care very much about, to be honest. Fut.Perf. 14:06, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
 • No, KaragouniS, Greek users should not have been notified before it was put up for deletion. All the other templates of the group are deleted, so it's clearly ripe for deletion. And to notify all the Greek football users individually means slanting the !votes towards keep for that reason. This is an encyclopedia for everyone, even when it comes to Greek football templates, and the !votes should be universal.  OzLawyer / talk  14:24, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello. Thank you for your recent edits regarding football players. Your edit included one or more links to the page defender, which is a disambiguation page. This type of page is intended to direct users to more specific topics. Ordinarily we try to avoid creating links to disambiguation pages, since it is preferable to link directly to the specific topic relevant to the context. You can help Wikipedia by revising the links you added to defender to refer directly to the most relevant topic, such as defender (football) by writing out defender. Regards, -- Jeff3000 00:42, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

As a typing tip, you might also consider using the Help:Pipe trick. That is, type only defender (football) which will automatically produce the correct defender when you press save. :-) NikoSilver 12:50, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Image:JJBorreli.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:JJBorreli.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add Replaceable fair use disputed, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 21:10, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Since you scanned it from an old magazine, you would need to state this, and the magazine information. You then need to also provide a fair use rationale per the WP:FU policy. It appears that the player has "retired" and so your main claim should be that this image is not replaceable since the subject no longer plays the sport and it would be impossible to provide a free image of him playing, since he no longer does so. Good luck. --MECUtalk 21:20, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Arvanites and Marcopoulo

You said: I live in Markopoulo, Eastern Attica, a village formed by arvanites in 14th century and I'm one of them. I hear this dialect every day so i know better than you what is it - Well, to which I answer: I am a linguist and I have read Tsitsipis, Tzaveras, Botsi, Kollias, Biris, ... Guess what they are. They know better than you what it is. For the rest, see WP:NOR. - That said, could you perhaps send me a little package of those moustokouloura they sell in that bakery shop at the lower end of the central square, on the corner of the street towards Keratea? You can't get those anywhere else. Fut.Perf. 15:00, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Rainbow band.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Rainbow band.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

Γειά σου, Καραγούνη. Θα απαντήσω στα Αγγλικά... I understand that the other user has been difficult. Experience shows that we can often convert difficult users to constructive users by engaging with them positively rather than aggressively, so I encourage you to try to work with him rather than threaten him with (bogus) administrative action, which will only encourage him to be more difficult.

As for the term "Northern Epirus", whether this is a common term in Greece is not relevant. Even the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs avoids this inflammatory term, preferring the term "Southern Albania": "in Southern Albania, where most of the Greek minority lives."[1] In fact, the MFA does not ever use the term on its official site. You say:

δεν δεχομαι σε καμμια περιπτωση οτι ο ορος "Βορεια Ηπειρος" ειναι προσβλητικος για τους Αλβανους

Do a Google search and just look at the contexts in which the term is used, or read the Northern Epirus article; it isn't an appropriate term for the editorial voice of WP to be using.

But there is a sensible way to approach this. Given what you say, I assume that Ninis considers himself to be an ethnic Greek from Northern Epirus. So find a quote from him or his parents saying exactly that. --Macrakis 14:13, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

The championships of 1940/41 and 1942/1943 officially started (the 1942/43 started twice!) but didn't finish due to the Greco-Italian War. So i think we should include them as long as we note that. --Darth21 13:51, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

The fact that they are not in the official site doesn't mean they don't exist. In Panathinaikos wikipedia page (a page i see you edid regularly) it is mentioned that the club won a Panhellenic (SEGAS) Championship and a Balkan Cup but these titles aren't included in EPO's official site or even in Panathinaikos' official site. --Darth21 18:48, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:UCL2007Final.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:UCL2007Final.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:AndreasI.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 13:39, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Machlas.jpg.

 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Orphaned non-free image (Image:GipedoPAO2.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:GipedoPAO2.jpg. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:36, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Personal attacks

Just saw this: [2]. Final warning. If there's one thing we really don't need on a sensitive discussion such as that, it's gratuitous ethnic insults. Next time's a good long block. Fut.Perf. 12:06, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Request reason:

This block is ABSOLUTELY WRONG AND BIASED. I haven't swore user Argyriou but I've just asked him to speak with me in GREEK to talk about the Northern Cyprus template. When he refused I supposed he doesn't know any Greek and I wrote that in his talkpage and challenged him to prove me wrong. I admit my tone was a slightly ironic, but afterwards he came in my talkpage and called me "twisted-mindless nazi", said my opinions are "spewings" and told me to go "the fuck away". Therefore, I request to be unblocked and instead block this guy for his totally inapropriate behaviour & comments.

Decline reason:

You were asking him to speak in Greek on the English Wikipedia? What were you thinking? Your tone wasn't ironic; it was blatantly attacking. Also, tu quoque is not a reason to unblock. — Kurykh 18:17, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the unblock template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Note to reviewing admin: the block has also been submitted for review on WP:AN/I. MastCell Talk 17:12, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
