Blocked for copying plot summaries from external websites
{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
. - Previous warnings: User talk:Kailash29792/Archive 24#Mr. Sampat, User talk:Kailash29792/Archive 27#March 2017.
- Copyvios in the last 24 hours: [1] from [2], [3] from [4].
As your copying of plot summaries has occurred over at least two years, I have opened a Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigation on your edits: Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Kailash29792.
I cannot let you edit while you continue to copy plot summaries in violation of the copyright policy. You may be unblocked if you are able to demonstrate an adequate understanding of the copyright policy to the reviewing admin. Please follow the unblock process in order to do so. Request reason:
I incompetently copied plot summaries from web sources almost verbatim without rewriting them significantly, and from the bottom of my heart I apologise for that. WP:CV opposes "copying material without the permission of the copyright holder from sources that are not public domain or compatibly licensed", and I understand and respect that as the page says, "copyright violations not only harm Wikipedia's redistributability, but also create legal issues". It was never my intention to copy verbatim; I tried rewriting the plot of Shareef Budmaash as differently as possible, but maybe it's just bad luck that I'm not good at rewriting plots; only changing informally written ones into formal ones. I do understand WP:CV in the eight years I've been on Wiki, that is why I no longer copy full-length plots of at least three or four paragraphs from web sources. The only times I was warned for copying plots (Mr. Sampat and Aalukkoru Veedu) was when I was still amateur in that concept. The only solution to avoiding a situation like this, when you are not good enough, is to avoid copying even small plots from other web sources. Since I now understand that even miniscule sentences in plots are recognised as serious copyright violations, I apologise for my addition of a single plotline at Sheep Without a Shepherd. I accept full responsibilities for my actions, and promise never to repeat them; I will stop being involved in the business of taking plots from web sources and trying to rewrite them. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:15, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
Accept reason:
Per the discussion below. Galobtter (pingó mió) 03:04, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- [5] was a near-verbatim paste of two paragraphs from IMDB. I think the easiest way forward would be for you just to not add plot summaries at all. Would that be OK with you? Also, have you systematically copied text into Wikipedia in other contexts? If so, what are they? MER-C 08:16, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
- MER-C, yes that is an agreeable condition. However, if someone else has written a verbatim plot and I rewrite that to be different, will it be acceptable? Also, if I add a plot from the web to my sandbox and test the copyright percentage using this gadget, if the result is declared "Violation Unlikely", it can be added to the mainspace article? If you consider 2019 over, in the one year that I've decided to remain up to (2021), plot adding is not going to be a top priority. At many points before 2015 when I wasn't so great, I copied large sentences. Now that part is over and I no longer want to repeat those mistakes. Kailash29792 (talk) 08:42, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
- (1) It's probably better to just remove it. A superficial rewrite is still a copyvio. (2) Your sandbox is not exempt from the copyright policy either. Earwig is not the final arbiter of whether a page is not a copyvio - I have deleted pages as G12 that were labelled as "violation unlikely" because the pages were superficially rewritten. MER-C 08:56, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
- MER-C, okay this is another agreeable condition: remove the plagiarised plot instead of rewriting it superficially. I also intend to check all pages listed here and undo any close paraphrased/copied content. Kailash29792 (talk) 09:29, 27 December 2019 (UTC)
- Sounds reasonable. I do not object to an unblock if the reviewing admin agrees. MER-C 11:23, 27 December 2019 (UTC)
- MER-C, thank you for those soothing words and sorry for the late reply. I hope an admin has agreed to review my unblock request. I'm not trying to show impatience, I just want to reduce my anxiety caused by uncertainty. Kailash29792 (talk) 08:35, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

- This unblock request needs to be declined since the copyright violations are occurring for years of years even after many warnings. Multiple sections below concerning the deletion of images uploaded by this user also indicate that the community needs time to review copyright violations committed by Kailash29792. I would say there should be no speedy unblock until Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Kailash29792 is over or the user has at least complied with WP:SO. - It is an admin's discretion to decide on an unblock. Aman.kumar.goel, Why should the unblock be declined if an admin is convinced that he has shown an understanding of the problem with a guarantee that it will not be repeated ? Once unblocked he can actually help in clearing the COPYVIOS if he co-operates. So that is a plus. Happy New Year! ᗙ DBigXrayᗙ 22:21, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
- @DBigXray: This is actually a HUGE deal, considering how much work Kailash has put in and I am stunned by this, as copy/pasting is such a rookie "mistake". I say "mistake" sarcastically, since most educated children learn early on that copying is a cardinal sin in academia, so it's even more stunning that someone so versed in building quality articles would resort to this. Other editors absolutely have the right to ask questions about this issue and about the scope of the problem, and I have yet to see anybody fully clean up the damage they've caused by copy-pasting. - "Most educated children learn early on that copying is a cardinal sin in academia" - this isn't the case in certain parts of the world, India being one of them. MER-C 07:43, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
- Cyphoidbomb, Where did I say that it is not a HUGE Deal ? ? ? If you check my comments closely, you will find that I have not said anything about his case. I have not seen his contribution history in detail hence I am not in a position to make such comments specific to his case. My comments are in response to AKG's comment on denial of unblock and are general comments applicable to all and not specific to Kailash. Happy New Year! ᗙ DBigXrayᗙ 10:03, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
- @DBigXray: You did not say that, my poorly-written comment was intended just to say that other editors have the right to weigh in, but then I got so involved in expressing sanctimonious outrage that the point was lost. So, my apologies to you. And also my apologies to Kailash. Anyhow if this case is going to go anywhere, I think we need to get a clear idea (preferably from Kailash) about the scope of problem and a plan for how he intends to remedy it. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:32, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
- Cyphoidbomb, Thanks for elaborating on the circumstances, I accept the apology. Again I would like to avoid commenting for or against the outrage due to lack of knowledge on this case. But from what I see above, User:MER-C stated that "Sounds reasonable. I do not object to an unblock if the reviewing admin agrees". So Now a reviewing Admin should accept or reject his unblock request with reasons, instead of letting it linger for 6 days. Happy New Year! ᗙ DBigXrayᗙ 16:48, 1 January 2020 (UTC)

No problem Cyphoidbomb, I'm not angry with you. And wish you a happy 2020. Though I don't generally take New Year's resolutions, this time I've taken one: run away from danger if you cannot face it properly. Also wishing DBigXray a happy new year. Kailash29792 (talk) 17:15, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
- Kailash29792, Man, I just recently watched your page and you are in soup. Another resolution would be to help in cleaning up this mess that led to your blocking. User:Cyphoidbomb has made some points. Think about it and probably strike off the old unblock request and start a fresh one below with the necessary amends to it. If you feel that your original unblock request already covers everything that was asked of you then you can just wait and see how it goes. Happy New Year! ᗙ DBigXrayᗙ 17:21, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
- DBigXray, yes that is also my intention, which I already told MER-C about on 27 December. Now I won't talk any further until an admin reviews my unblock request, as my talk page access might be revoked. Kailash29792 (talk) 17:35, 1 January 2020 (UTC)

- MER-C, I'm really sorry to keep inquiring when my unblock request will be reviewed. I know you can do nothing to speed up the block review process, but am I allowed to ping other admins so they might review my request? It's not that I'm paranoid or impatient; it's just that one of my articles is at a well-progressing FAC, and I fear my failure to address minor lingering issues will result in its archival. Though I've asked Laser brain to stall the closing until I am unblocked (he in turn has conveyed this to other FAC co-ords), I'm not sure how long they can hold this. So it's only because of the ongoing FAC that I'm asking about the long time taken to review my request, nothing else. If pinging other admins is wrong, I'm sorry so I won't do it. - No addition of any plot summaries anywhere in Wikipedia
- Looking through your CCI and removing copyright violations Galobtter (pingó mió) 23:43, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
Yes Galobtter, both conditions are agreeable. Kailash29792 (talk) 01:43, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, I am thinking of unblocking you, with the first restriction on adding plot summaries being a formal WP:CONDUNBLOCK restriction and the second being an informal promise. Do you agree that? Galobtter (pingó mió) 00:45, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Mani Malai.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:50, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Yaar Paiyyan
Hello Kailash29792. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Yaar Paiyyan, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: While it is understandable that in this particular case you might want to recreate this arictlice afresh, this would defeat the purpose of Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Kailash29792. Maybe you could start draft:Yaar Paiyyan? Thank you. Shirt58 (talk) 10:47, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
- Shirt58, I was blocked last Christmas... err, the day after, for several unintended copyright violations. After I promised not to involve in such activities (mainly copying plot synopses from the web) and to undo my past copyvios at the aforementioned CCI page, I was conditionally unblocked. My copyvio issues are mainly before 2015, when I wasn't so great. Now as part of my promise, I've been rewriting articles labelled as "violation possible" by Earwig, the copyvio gadget. Though I have successfully rewritten quite some articles by now, I felt requesting the ones I created with blatant copyvio issues for deletion would allow me to recreate them in a superior manner, similar to the rebirth of a phoenix. But okay I'll stop that, instead I'll add {{revdel}} to each article. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:19, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
Minnale and Cheli
@Kailash29792:, Can you show me strong proof with reference that Minnale's Telugu version Cheli was official? Please prove that Minnale's Telugu version was made by it's producer and director, otherwise the Telugu language related information can be considered for removing from Minnale article. Walter Saphron (talk) 05:10, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
- Walter Saphron, just remove information about the dubbed version if there is no third-party RS for it. Kailash29792 (talk) 05:36, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Kailash29792:, I think references from fullyhyderabad.com are reliable; what do you say in this context? I have just added information that Telugu version was not officially made, if my writings are wrong then please revert my edits. Walter Saphron (talk) 05:58, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi
Happy Republic Day. I recieved your ping. I will be editing sparingly for some time now, so you might want to ask around for the Peer review. I will try to get on it when I return to normal editing. --DBigXrayᗙ 11:23, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
- DBigXray, Happy Republic Day. Too bad it fell on a Sunday, so I applied for Monday leave. Even if you can't edit now, I hope you can still read this and help me on MM when you can. BTW, many GOCE articles are now getting edited just 10-11 days after submission, so we should see SL back in FAC soon. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:27, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
Post-unblock tasks
Galobtter, thank you for unblocking me, I promise I will use this chance wisely by undoing all copyvio plots. For a start, is my most recent edit at Ghazab acceptable? Or is there a different admin I should ask about this? I deleted the near verbatim copyvio plot and kept just two sentences which are largely different. The older revision(s) by me may be deleted. --Kailash29792 (talk) 03:43, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- That edit looks ok. You can use the {{revdel}} template to indicate what revisions need to be revdeleted. I am concerned by other edits like [6] though. As MER-C mentioned to you above, Earwig's isn't really an accurate measure of copyright violations; if you did copy the plot from somewhere, then no matter how much you rewrite it it is a copyright violation - you need to remove it or write it in your own words. Galobtter (pingó mió) 04:49, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
- Galobtter, at this page it states that I have agreed to "No addition of any plot summaries anywhere in Wikipedia". That is true with regards to taking plot summaries from the web, but I hope I don't get blocked for writing plots in my own words that are not from the web. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:05, 27 January 2020 (UTC)
- @MER-C: said above "I think the easiest way forward would be for you just to not add plot summaries at all." which you agreed too. The idea is that, since you have difficulty distinguishing what is or is not a copyright violation in regards of plot summaries, that you shouldn't add them at all. You can always appeal the restriction after a period of time. Galobtter (pingó mió) 21:08, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

I wouldn't place too much emphasis on FA, it's far more important generally just to get more articles up to GA status. Ritchie333 is one of our best British editors and doesn't bother with it. It's a lot of nit picking to deal with. Even Giano, one of our most prolific FA contributors in the early days isnt concerned about them being demoted. That you got a 1936 Indian film to GA is a considerable achievement in itself. So cheer up!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:38, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

You don't need to notify me about deletion nominations for filename redirects (of which I've created hundreds). Thanks anyway. DS (talk) 16:56, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- DragonflySixtyseven, it was never my intention. Maybe there's a way to avoid notifying the uploader? Kailash29792 (talk) 16:57, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
Sathi Leelavathi (1936 film)
Hello, Kailash29792. This is a courtesy notice that the copy edit you requested for Sathi Leelavathi (1936 film) at the Guild of Copy Editors requests page is now complete. All feedback welcome! Cheers, Baffle☿gab 02:12, 13 February 2020 (UTC) |
"Moon over Bourbon Street"
Hi Kailash, I just wanted to say that I don't agree with your change to this song title. Per MOS:TITLECAPS, prepositions of four letter or fewer should not be capitalised... and "over" is specifically included as an example. Bridge over Troubled Water was changed as a result of this MOS, if you have a look at its talk page... it's more correct to say that articles like Bullets Over Broadway (musical) should be changed, not the other way round. Richard3120 (talk) 13:55, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
Richard3120, I moved the article title to reflect the case used throughout. The official tracklist spells "over" with a capital O. Kailash29792 (talk) 14:16, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, but we never reflect stylisations on Wikipedia, regardless of whether every word on the tracklist (including "the" and "a") start with a capital letter, or if they are written entirely in capital letters... we follow MOS:TITLECAPS which states "Other styles exist with regard to prepositions, including three- or even two-letter rules in news and entertainment journalism... These styles are not used on Wikipedia, including for titles of pop-culture or academic works, respectively." The official tracklist on Sting's next album ...Nothing Like the Sun spells all the titles in capital letters... should we follow that track listing then and have all the song titles on the Wikipedia article in capital letters? Richard3120 (talk) 15:43, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
- Richard3120, alright I've moved it back. I hope Williamsdoritios (who created the song's article from Moon Over Bourbon Street (Sting song) and requested it to be moved) doesn't have an issue with my moving. Kailash29792 (talk) 15:58, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
- It was actually me who requested it to be moved, but thank you. We don't follow the naming patterns on record sleeves because they are so irregular... for example, look at the track listing on Sting's official website for another of his albums, If on a Winter's Night... [7]. The title at the top has "A" as a capital letter, but the track "Lo How a Rose E'er Blooming" has it in lower case, and again the description below the track listing the album title also uses lower case, unlike earlier. "There Is No Rose of Such Virtue" has the preposition "of" in lower case, while "Hounds Of Winter" has it in upper case. So you see that even official websites don't stick to one style and aren't consistent – this is why Wikipedia sticks to its defined MOS style, regardless of how the artist uses it.
- Incidentally, why are you planning on retiring next year? Wikipedia needs to keep hold of good editors like you, and India-related articles are among those that could do with someone who knows the subject and can keep an eye on the articles... Richard3120 (talk) 16:13, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
- Richard3120, one of the reasons is the traumatic year that 2019 proved to be for me on Wiki (my FAC failed for the fourth time despite my hardest efforts, I was blocked for almost a month, during which an easy peasy FAC failed, and one of my closest allies is seemingly gone for life) in addition to real life details I won't reveal, and my declining interest in Wiki. Kailash29792 (talk) 16:40, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
- That's a real shame, but I can totally understand your waning enthusiasm, and yes of course real-life issues must take priority. I hope your final year here is a happier and more productive and successful one. Richard3120 (talk) 17:02, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

12B
I was wondering what the qualifications were for a good article and if 12B is a possible article for nomination? --DragoMynaa
- DragoMynaa, please read WP:GACR. But first format all the refs correctly; eg: <ref>{{cite web |last=Ramanujam |first=Srinivasa |title=If you instantly recognise a Harris song, that is my success: Harris Jayaraj |url=https://www.thehindu.com/entertainment/movies/if-you-instantly-recognise-a-harris-song-that-is-my-success-harris-jayaraj/article25849331.ece |website=The Hindu |accessdate=23 February 2020 |date=28 December 2018}}</ref>. --Kailash29792 (talk) 07:40, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
Are the references better now? DragoMynaa (talk) 22:23, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
Reviewing
Hi, glad you're still active. To be honest I've not been that interested in the FAC process for a while. I admire the people who work hard for it both in contributing and reviewing but generally I feel like the time is best spent expanding poor quality articles to a half decent level. Unless the articles taken to FAC are really core/important entries it often shows how unevenly developed we are. If a 30s Tamil film is an FA yet articles Pune, Agra, Tamil cinema etc aren't even GA class, it makes you wonder why it was such a priority. Tamil cinema even contains entirely unsourced sections! I just think the time is best spent in getting articles like those up to GA rather than worrying too much about FA.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:10, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Dr. Blofeld. More than getting it to GA or FA, it is important that the article represents three things above everything else: the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Sometimes when the FAC fails, I feel it's because of the article lacking the complete truth due to errors in the sources, usually hard to prove. Kailash29792 (talk) 17:19, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- I think in some ways priorities are backwards in the way this site is developed. Of course in an ideal world every article on an Indian film would be FA quality. I just think we're best developing in stages. Make sure articles are clean and reliably sourced first. All the time spent stressing about on one article, a few dozen could be brought to half decent status in the process. When I browse Wikipedia I'm generally more concerned at how many poor quality stubs or poorly sourced/written articles I see on things I want to read about that if an already good article is elevated to Featured status. Can you understand where I'm coming from? Of course accuracy is very important, but you don't really need an FA review to produce an accurate article.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:28, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- I should have the satisfaction that if an article is at GA level, it's not a deplorable like other articles, but a part of the sub-elite. Even classes like A and B should give that satisfaction. But factual errors often get copied by reliable sources, and overlooked during GA. However, since Sathi Leelavathi is already at FAC (and is most likely my final attempt at a FAC as a fifth attempt at MM may not happen unless Ssven comes back), I'd rather finish it regardless of the outcome. I need it's prose to improve per Laser brain's comments, so is there someone you know can help me? Or a page where I can ask for help? --Kailash29792 (talk) 18:41, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
FAC reminder
Hello again! I just wanted to remind you about my FAC per your previous request since it is currently 27 February. I hope you are having a great end to your week. Aoba47 (talk) 20:54, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- Promise, I'll make comments today. Kailash29792 (talk) 01:33, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
- Take as much time as you need. Thank you again for the help. Aoba47 (talk) 02:08, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
I've fixed the copy & paste move to put all the history in one place, but I can't find the copyright violation you mention here. It's possible I'm missing something – can you point me to the problematic text? Thanks. – bradv🍁 14:19, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- Bradv, I already removed the copyvio content. I wanted the article deleted and recreated to eliminate the copyvio revisions. The revisions copied from here: http://web.archive.org/web/20200228112135/https://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-features/tp-cinemaplus/kanniyin-kaadhali-1949/article3021024.ece Kailash29792 (talk) 14:29, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- We can't remove all this history as it's required for our attribution rules. Otherwise it looks like you wrote the entire article, which isn't fair as other people have worked on it. In which revision were the copyright violations removed? – bradv🍁 14:31, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- Bradv, every revision before this and after this contains copyvio, and needs to be deleted. Apart from me, the only other significant contributor was an incompetent Sangavitamilmani who is indefinitely blocked because of persistent copyvios and pathetic grammar. Their writings at Thigambara Samiar attracted the attention of V. Sriram, who ridiculed it saying: "the entry on this film has also got a storyline which should be held up as an example of bad English in all schools". Andha Naal scheduled for TFA
This is to let you know that the Andha Naal article has been scheduled as today's featured article for April 13, 2020. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 13, 2020, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.
For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point. I've not used the article image since it is still nominated for SD, but I've fixed the director's image's licence and used that instead.
I suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:09, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
