Congrats on the profile in Wired

[edit]

Congratulations on this glowing profile in Wired! Madcoverboy (talk) 22:46, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Your work is very inspiring! --Ghastlyman (talk) 23:41, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Came here to say the same thing :) Sadads (talk) 11:52, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, congratulations! You're doing good work! Hal Boo (talk) 14:03, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, congrats! Love all the detail about your work. Doug Weller talk 14:08, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Really enjoyed the article. And please let me know if I misunderstood: [1] Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:05, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Madcoverboy, Ghastlyman, Sadads, Hhfjbaker, Doug Weller, and RegentsPark: thanks all; I appreciate it! @Gråbergs Gråa Sång: yes, SS Division Wiking is the correct article. --K.e.coffman (talk) 01:57, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! Thanks so much for your work. Bilpen (talk) 14:55, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I also read your Wired profile and came here to congratulate you K.e.coffman! Kudos to you for disallowing glorification of Nazi war criminals, standing up to editors opposing your accuracy edits and winning, and for the sheer volume of your work! You are a true hero! Anson from San Diego 20:21, 11 September 2021 (UTC)
Piling on the bandwagon here, great job. --Golbez (talk) 16:29, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I’ll add my congratulations and thanks as well. A lot of times good work on this site goes unnoticed so it’s good to see someone getting attention for it. DogsRNice (talk) 20:55, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Golbez and DogsRNice: thanks guys! It's great to know that my Wiki contributions are appreciated. --K.e.coffman (talk) 14:19, 29 September 2021

agreed. just finished the article and you are inspiring. thank you for your work 70.169.28.165 (talk) 03:17, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Forgive my somewhat redundant praise, admiration, and heartfelt thanks for the work you do here. Rawja (talk) 18:11, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

My Apple News feed just showed me the Wired article, as well. CONGRATULATIONS on the writeup in a national publication! Moreover, thank you for helping make the English Wikipedia more reliable; your work is amazing! I have a few articles I monitor for non-RS additions (e.g. Pedro_Paulet), but nothing I've done comes anywhere near to the improvements you've made—it's not even in the same universe. Keep up the great work! — UncleBubba T @ C ) 14:30, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@UncleBubba, Rawja, and Ermenrich: thank you! As an aside, I was quite surprised by the amount of support I received; it's great to know my contributions are appreciated. @Ermenrich: I think one just needs to have a (free) account to view the article. --K.e.coffman (talk) 05:17, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wow. Just saw the Wired article. So proud of you. I've drifted off from Wikipedia because of the general stupidity, bullying and so on, and it is great to have a reason to get back into the game. Coretheapple (talk) 13:30, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Coretheapple: I'm glad that you are back. Are there any articles that you'd be interested in editing in the WWII realm? There's a small team of colleagues that's doing it now -- the more the merrier. BTW, I very much appreciated your contribution during the ARBGWE acceptance phase: Wikipedia talk:Arbitration/Requests/Case/German war effort#Statement by Coretheapple. I did not seem certain at the time that the case would be accepted; so every bit of support helped. --K.e.coffman (talk) 05:17, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dachau_liberation_reprisals&diff=1056009199&oldid=1056008405&diffmode=source why thanks! Just saw your reply. I am somewhat sporadic in my contributions in the World War II subject field, though in the past I have done quite a lot. Recently I'm looking into Dachau liberation reprisals, for instance, given some recent language changes in the lead. Coretheapple (talk) 15:21, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Coretheapple: -- I will keep an eye on the article and participate in the discussion to the extent that I'm able. --K.e.coffman (talk) 04:52, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@K.e.coffman: thank you, that is appreciated. Coretheapple (talk) 05:15, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is my only ever contribution to Wikipedia to personally thank you as a Jewish person in America for doing what you do. Ratstick (talk) 21:39, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The experience was long and laborious, but also quite interesting. The article was written by Noam Cohen who's written quite a bit about wikipedia, so we did not need to spend time on Wikipedia basics: Wikipedia:Noam_Cohen. --K.e.coffman (talk) 14:38, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@François Robere: fixing ping. --K.e.coffman (talk) 14:38, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know that our paths have crossed here before, but I've been seeing your name around WP for a long time. Yesterday I saw the article in WIRED, and just had to reach out to tell you how awesome you are, and how very important this work is. Thank you!! Your work makes a tremendous difference, and it is deeply appreciated. Netherzone (talk) 16:20, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I also want to join the chorus of editors who are immensely grateful for all the work you do. After cleaning up some articles based on Franz Kurowski over in Russian Wikipedia (thanks to your work!), I can only imagine how exhausting (as far as writing about Nazis goes) your contributions must be over the years. Let me know if anything needs to be corrected over in ruWP, either via wiki mail or talk page (if you still read in Russian, of course). stjn 17:42, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Same here! I found the Wired article via P.Z. Myers' Pharyngula blog: [2]. --Hob Gadling (talk) 08:19, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Netherzone, Stjn, Hob Gadling, and Ratstick: Thank you -- I appreciate it! I was quite suprised about the outpouring of support. I did not think people cared. I am glad I was wrong. --K.e.coffman (talk) 04:59, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am aware that I am just one more in a long line of admirers, but I too just read the Wired piece and I'm so grateful for your work. I teach college writing, and I am going to use the article to talk about Wikipedia and the importance of sources. --User:kmecholsky — Preceding undated comment added 13:46, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi! I just read the article in Wired and I am absolutely fascinated by your work, thank you for helping slow the spread of disinformation online, as well as the glorification of nazism. I am American and I find this is a major problem in this country, I hope to help lift the veil as well. I look forward to following more of your work!!! @Trainsandotherthings and Evrik: thank you guys! --K.e.coffman (talk) 05:53, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I also waded over her to offer a congrats on the article. Thank you for your vigilance and dedication to factual sources. Joey2250 (talk) 03:44, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • My wife showed the article to me. As an admin on the English Wikipedia and as the grandson of Holocaust survivors, thank you for applying neutrality where villains were being praised. – Muboshgu (talk) 05:48, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Just some guy, that moved from Balkans to Scandinavia, created profile just to say how much we appreciate your work, and how important it is... Too much revisionism on Wiki :/

Looking for your advice

[edit]

Hello K.e.coffman! I would like to ask about your opinion - since you spent a lot of time and efforts evaluating the credibility of sources using in Second World War-related articles. I was thinking about writting an article but it seems that the key source in this case will be the book of Rolf Hinze. In your opinion, is he a credible author? Thanks in advance!Dreamcatcher25 (talk) 19:06, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Dreamcatcher25: I personally would not use this book. Motorbuch-Verlag [de] is known to me as a publisher of hobbyist / war-romancing literature; this is not a serious publisher. I'm not familiar with this author, who appears to be quite obscure. Here are some of the books available in English: Rolf Hinze. The titles speak for themselves: "East Front Drama"; "To the Bitter End"; "Courage of Desperation" -- that's full-on Lost Cause of the Confederacy right there. There's so much of scholarly literature available on the German-Soviet war that such books are not needed. Hope this helps. --K.e.coffman (talk) 16:16, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If this is the same Rolf Hinze, then I would say avoid anything written by this author. --Kansas Bear (talk) 16:30, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both. To be more specific... in his "East Front Drama 1944" Hinze described the alleged massacre of few thousand wounded German soldiers by Red Army in Babruysk, during the Bobruysk offensive of 1944. Initially I was quite trustful, since it was mentioned also in other sources - at least some of them seems to be credible enough[3]][4]. However, when I dig deeper, in all cases Hinze shown to be the the primary source for this story. Taking that into account, I will hold my horses. Rommel Myth on Simple English Wikipedia

[edit]

Hello, I had a look at the Simple English Wikipedia page for Erwin Rommel, and it seems to be very pro-Rommel, saying "Soldiers captured by his army were treated well and orders to kill captured Jewish soldiers and civilians were ignored." and "The Afrika Korps was never accused of any war crimes". It's quite a sensitive topic, and something I'm not remotely qualified to write about, I was hoping you'd be able to lend a hand? I've been told you're brilliant with combatting this kind of pro-Nazi standpoint on Wikipedia. I don't want to cause you any bother, and if you don't have time that's understandable, but if you'd be able to take a look at some point, It'd be a great help. Many thanks for your work so far,

DirkJandeGeer (щи) 22:27, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@DirkJandeGeer: thank you for your note. It looks like some portions need to be trimmed. Are you able to edit the article? --K.e.coffman (talk) 09:07, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@K.e.coffman hello, thank you for your reply. I can try end edit the article, I'll need to learn how to edit articles properly as I'm not much of a content editor but I can certainly try and fix some of the issues with the article, hopefully in the near future.
