Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Julia Ohela. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Maria Baranova, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template)—don't forget to give details of reliable sources supporting your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:19, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you DoubleGrazing! I will try to edit the article with more sources included. A lot of the material will be in Finnish (would this be an issue?) Julia Ohela (talk) 12:04, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- Non-English references are allowed. But the key question fomr DG is are you COI or PAID. If yes, please state that clearly on your User page. David notMD (talk) 15:30, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

Paid editing
[edit] As previously advised, your edits give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:Julia Ohela, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Julia Ohela|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. Theroadislong (talk) 02:09, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Theroadislong,
- Thanks so much for your advice. I am not getting any money or other form of compensation for editing, this is simply a pro bono project on a topic of interest to me. I have tried to be as neutral as possible, adhering to the guidelines. Is there still some issues with the content or the disclosure of not being a paid worker is the only thing I need to clarify?
- Many thanks for your help! Julia Ohela (talk) 09:22, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Nevertheless, you have a professional relationship with the subject, which gives rise to a strong presumption of a financial stake, incentive or reward of some sort. Whether you actually receive anything, is a private matter between you and the subject, and not something we can possibly know.
- As a bare minimum, you must disclose your general conflict of interest (COI). Whether you technically need to disclose the more specific one of paid-editing, only you can determine with any certainty. My advice would be to err on the side of caution and disclose the latter.
- From a practical point of view it matters little which disclosure you make, the outcome is largely the same either way.
- The general COI is disclosed with the {{User COI}} template, the paid-editing one with {{paid}}. To use either, please place the template on your user page, and fill in the necessary details.

- Thank you so much for your speedy reply! I have now added the COI and upaid disclosure to my user page :) Hope this solves it! Julia Ohela (talk) 09:57, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. I have removed the
nowiki
wrappers from the template so it renders correctly. (There is no Template:Unpaid, so you can remove that from the page if you wish.) -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:02, 25 October 2024 (UTC)- Oh thank you so much! Apologies for the many issues, it is indeed my first time editing on Wikipedia so lots to learn. Fingers crossed :) Julia Ohela (talk) 10:04, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

- Hi There,
- Thank you for your response. Could you please advise which parts were copyrighted? I also added the note that I am volunteering for Ballet Bond Productions (so conflict of interest). So I am essentially quoting "myself" as advised. Is there any way I can resolve this please? Julia Ohela (talk) 11:01, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
