Welcome

[edit]

Hi Johncello2010, and welcome to Wikipedia! I've written some advice for past students in a similar class at Longy School of Music which you might find helpful. You'll find it here. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page (User talk:Voceditenore), or place {{helpme}} here on your talk page, ask your question, and another editor will come along to help. You might also be interested in WikiProject Classical music, WikiProject Composers, and WikiProject Opera. They have various guidelines for articles in this area and talk pages where you can ask advice from editors experienced in writing articles on classical music and related subjects. You'll find these guides particularly useful: WikiProject Composers: Guide to online research and WikiProject Composers: Copyright guidelines. Happy editing and best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 14:34, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Boston Cello Quartet requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. ttonyb (talk) 02:38, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

General feedback page

[edit]

I've also added some general feedback to this year's class as a whole on the Futureclass talk page. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 10:21, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much Voceditenore. I am curious to see how I might be able to render this situation? i realize now they are not yet a credited ensemble yet, however they will be very soon. How might I still get some information up? Thank you. (AKA) Your solution?

What I would suggest is that you start a new section at Boston Symphony Orchestra called Ensembles. I'd put it right after the Orchestra musicians section. I'd also suggest that you cover both the Hawthorne String Quartet and the Boston Cello Quartet. Write one paragraph on each and tie them together at the end by noting that they both participate in the BSO's community outreach programme, which so far isn't covered in the article at all. The Hawthorne should come first, as it's older. Make sure you don't give undue weight to the BCQ and describe their activities, members, repertoire etc. in prose not via lists. Better to get it drafted in your user space first. Once the section has been added to the article. I can recreate Boston Cello Quartet as a redirect page to the BSO ensembles section. Does that sound like a plan? I'll be happy to help with writing the section on the Hawthorne, if you don't have time for that, because I think its important to have at least two ensembles there when the BCQ bit goes up. P.S. I also have a subscription to Highbeam Research and can access articles from the Boston Globe and Boston Herald as well as other newspapers and journals that are behind pay walls on Google News. So I can help you source this section. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 07:44, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Voceditenore, that all sounds wonderful! I can not thank you enough for the help. I can draft the pieces in my user page tonight. Your help is greatly appreciatted.

Problems with upload of File:Hawthorne.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Hawthorne.gif. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or provided a license tag. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, select the appropriate license tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the information to the image's description. If you can't find a suitable license tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 00:05, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I didnt mean to delete the information regarding the photo. I have been trying to delete it, how might I do this?John (talk) 16:24, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Me again. That image can't be uploaded under "Non-free media use", because the ensemble is still performing, even if you did have information about the source etc. Are you asking how to get the image deleted? If so, just leave it and an admin will delete it automatically on 14th December 2010 (seven days after the notice). Best, Voceditenore (talk) 17:22, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You've probably noticed I've been busy there. I've referenced it to multiple independent sources to establish its notability. It's not a good idea to put up an article before you have all those assembled. If a subject is referenced only to their own website, it looks like no one else has ever noticed them, and this is definitely not the case here. You'll see that I took an axe to some of the other stuff there. It was way too closely paraphrased from the sources/external links. Anyhow, you've got a viable skeleton now and can flesh it out at your leisure. Just make sure that's not with this. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 17:22, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
