The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Clivedon Road Highams Park London until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Hi again. I wanted to let you know that I undid your deletions of others' text at talk:Betamax. Please review the talk page guidelines at WP:TALK: With rare exceptions, such as fixing formatting errors, you are never supposed to delete (or modify, for that matter) talk page comments made by other editors. (And the exceptions allowing deletion of others' text should usually be handled by admins.)
Even modifying your own comments is considered controversial. You should most definitely not change or delete comments of yours to which replies have appeared. If you made a comment and would later like to retract it, do not simply delete the text. Instead, please use the <s>...</s> markup, which produces strikeout text. To add to what you have already written, simply add another paragraph, at the bottom of the existing section, with the first line preceded by one more leading colons (:) than the previous writer's. With rare exceptions, a talk page section should read from top to bottom in the order in which the material was added.
Also, please be aware that it is generally unnecessary (and quite uncommon) on Wikipedia to use HTML markup such as <br />. On all types of pages here, just press "enter" twice (i.e. insert two newlines) to start a new paragraph. Within article text, a single newline has no effect on the layout (WP automatically fills the lines), so if you really want a line break without a paragraph skip, you could use <br />.... but a line break without a paragraph skip is not appropriate for most text in Wikipedia articles. (Exceptions can exist in places like cells in tables.)
On talk pages, a single newline will be honored, causing the next text to appear at the beginning of a line but without an inter-paragraph space... again, though, this is not something for which there should often be a need in prose.
This is a minor quibble and use of <br /> is actually supported by WP's "Manual of Style" (WP:MOS for the main page; this specific detail is at WP:LINEBREAK). It's just that there should usually be no reason to use it, because prose just isn't supposed to be formatted that way.
Oh, one other thing that I did: I moved your "thanks" to the end of the section. All new text in a section should go to the end of the section. If you will edit the section you will see how I used the leading colon (:) to cause indentation. This sets your reply off from the material to which it is a reply.
Finally, please let me state that as you are a new editor it is not unexpected that you will make a few mistakes. No one is counting them! I hope you do not find the formatting corrections I have made annoying; they are intended to format the page into normal WP format so that others can participate in the discussion without trying to figure out who said what and in what order. Similarly, the information above is not intended as a rebuke, but simply to help you make your use of talk pages more effective. Jeh (talk) 09:35, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks i am getting the jist and lurning from the mistakes you corrected.John Johnstone Smith (talk) 10:12, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
Your talk page
[edit]After saving my previous edit I noticed that the entire page was now within the box created by the "Welcome" template. Earlier you deleted two notifications from this page and the last line of the "Welcome" template, so that template was not terminated. I restored it. This also left the last paragraph of the deletion discussion notification without its section head or its first paragraph, so I restored those as well. This seemed better than either leaving the partial section as it was, or presuming that you wanted the whole thing deleted. Per WP:TALK you are free to delete material from your own talk page, particularly after a discussion is finished, although archiving is preferred. Please do be aware that you are presumed to have read any notifications to your talk page that you delete.

The article Handsworth Primary School in Waltham Forest London has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Primary schools are rarely notable and this one shows no signs of notability.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Charles (talk) 14:42, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
Take note
[edit]While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. You seem to be uploading a lot of images that you have not created yourself, claiming that you are the image creator. Wikipedia takes copyright seriously: please upload images that either are your work or , if not, have come from a source that states that they can be freely used. In these cases, you need to say where the image actually came from, & include the url. TheLongTone (talk) 16:32, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Betamax Video cameras requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Images at Leicester railway station
[edit]Hi, you appear to be attempting to restore images to Leicester railway station by undoing the edits of CommonsDelinker (talk · contribs). This is not possible, because the images have been deleted from the system. I believe that they have been deleted because you have not been addressing the problems notified to you at commons:User talk:John Johnstone Smith. Many of these notices concern the copyright and licensing of the various images that you have uploaded; both Wikipedia and Commons take a very dim view of persistent disregard for copyright. --Redrose64 (talk) 09:28, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- Well i am afraid that wiki commons editor is no better himself as he deleated all my photos i uploaded on every page i had and most was my own all because of one or two expired ebay it listings photos i put on a page all the rest was mine and if they was not a gave the website hhtp to the commons i got the photos from ebay expired listing photos are free because the photo disapears over time from ebay over time, this was unfair to "vandalised" all my work and i am not ruling out it was because i made a betamax video camera page that was deleated and just two minutes before the page disopeared, all my photos in my wiki pages made a mysterious disopearence and to uncanny, that is what it looks like to me unless you can convince me otherwiseJohn Johnstone Smith (talk) 12:03, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- You seem to have a very poor understanding of what constitutes "ownership" and "copyright". Whether the ebay listing has expired or not is immaterial: the copyright of photographs (whether found on the internet or not) rests with the photographer, unless they have explicitly waived their rights, and does not "expire" when the item depicted is no longer for sale. Read what eBay USA Copyright Basics and eBay UK Copyright Basics have to say about copyright; also the eBay USA Images and text policy and eBay UK Picture policy. Making a copy of somebody else's image and uploading it to either Wikipedia or Commons does not transfer ownership to you, and nor does it give you the right to misrepresent either the copyright or licensing of the image. Please read Wikipedia:Copyright violations and Wikipedia:Image use policy very carefully and heed the advice of these documents. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:52, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Moved page
[edit]I moved the page to User:John Johnstone Smith/Betamax Video cameras. The problem here is that the other users are right: you will have to show that this specific type of camcorder is notable enough for its own entry apart from the main camcorder article. You can say that it is notable, but ultimately this all boils down to coverage in reliable sources such as reviews about the camcorder, articles in places such as newspapers, and coverage in books. I'm sure that this exists, but we can't just say that it exists and that the product is obviously notable because it exists. You have to justify content forks by way of coverage in RS. Now I've moved this to your userspace, so you will have a chance to flesh this out and look for sourcing. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:30, 14 January 2014 (UTC) Ok But how can i get advice on the Betamax video camera page(camcorders) because there are lots of other camcorder formats that have there own page apart from the page entitled "Camcorders" one third of video cameras sold on the consumer markert from 1980-1885 and it maybe be a good idea to have a page dedicated to the beta camera format.

Recent video related edits
[edit]I have yet to figure out your entire agenda here. I've actually been intrigued by some of your summations, your rant on the talk page of Format Wars makes you sound deranged. Problem 1, almost everything you have posted is unsourced. Please try to find sources that support what you say, or your contributions to wikipedia will get reverted and removed. I'm not even saying I will do it, that's just the wikipedia way, particularly when you are taking a stance contrary to the norm. Problem 2 is your english. on Camcorder you used the wrong form of their (you spelled it "there"), and misspelled committee (you wrote "commity"). This poor use of English reflects also on the content you contribute. It makes you look uneducated. Rather than correcting it, I have left those edits in tact so others can more clearly see your work. I think you might actually have something positive to say here, but you have to be more precise. And you need to find other, informed sources to back you up. Original Research is not allowed on wikipedia. So take the suggestion, clean up your act before you post it on the worldwide stage. Trackinfo (talk) 07:04, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for your advice but contary to the norm is only your opinion as any body could put a page on wikipedia and make out it isthe norm, indeed is the norm to go on rumours that one herd about the betamax in the early 80's but it is the norm to correct them also and that page should be removed because they state no fact in the way of legislation taken against Sony , any court cases that shows Sony getting fined for how they suposebly caused the Betamax to get a bad reputation it seems to have got,. we need facts and i am entitled to my opinion and "the page should go" as it serves no purpose but to give fulse information without the facts i have stated that need to be pressented on that page "they pressent no evidence" that is all i am pointing out please keep a open mind.John Johnstone Smith (talk) 07:30, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Opinion is exactly the issue. Wikipedia is not a place to post your opinion. Yeah, it works its way into what we write, especially if you are an expert in your field, as you portray yourself. But you need to support your opinion with facts and opinions from others. That is what is called sourcing. Again, I am laying back and letting you roll for now, but please go find supporting documentation. Someone else is likely to come along an wipe out everything you have written and I've watched other people go through a declining cycle fighting to keep unsourced material. Trackinfo (talk) 09:26, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- To add support to Trackinfo's position: The problem, John, is not that other people are not keeping "an open mind." The problem is that you are making stuff up out of your own mind. Wikipedia is just not the place to record your own opinions and your own (wrong) versions of past events. Not even on talk pages. Jeh (talk) 11:12, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
I looked at the page "video Tape format war" and it is a disgrace the page should not be there it relies on non fact about a war inside peoples heads that has no place on a encyclopedia the talk page suggests that betamax lost because they "distrobuted illegal porn film" what rubbish for a encylopedia i am not giving my own opinion but the facts and this main stream slader that brain washes you, and all "should stop" there is nothing wrong with the betamax, and i am rallying suport with your editors to remove that page, and the "slander about the betamax" on the Betamax page as well the lines on the page that say" "reasons betamax lost to vhs" because it offends betamax owners, and we want it off our encyclopedia, there was hundereds of thousands of betamax buyers in britain 18 million world wide, and we are not putting up with this slander that ruins the machines image, how would you like it of i slanderd your item, please stop this, we have got rights as Betamax-owner and we will take our case even to "Wikipedia" to get this rubbish removed . PLEASE KEEP THE CONSUMER IN MIND PLEASE it does not matter what you herd about the betamax in a 1980s rumor you should have some respect for other peoples feelings.John Johnstone Smith (talk) 11:35, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Redrose64 (talk) 17:49, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Your recent spate of updates to the Camcorder article expand the history section beyond what is really necessary. The information was largely redundant with the information that already existed, but in a much less well-organized and well-written fashion. I have reverted your changes. Please take the matter up on Talk:Camcorder if you feel there are changes that must be made. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:43, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Mentoring?
[edit]John, you have had an unusually rough time in your first few weeks on Wikipedia, culminating in your above statement that you are giving up and leaving Wikipedia.
I wonder if you would consider accepting "mentorship" from someone? There is a page: Wikipedia:Mentorship that describes the program. From the first few lines:
- "Mentorship is an arrangement in which one user assists another user, the protégé. Depending on the nature of the mentorship agreement, the mentor may give the protégé advice on more effective editing habits and help the protégé resolve disputes. The purpose of mentorship is to help the protégé adjust to Wikipedian site processes and standards."
I think this has a strong possibility of improving your experience here (and others' experience with you). To find a mentor, just place this at the bottom of your user page (not your user talk page, which is where we are right now):
{{subst:dated adoptme}}
Or, you could look at the "adopters' area" to look for those who are actively seeking adoptees.
Hope this helps! Jeh (talk) 01:39, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

- I thought it had been deleated because a editor came along and removed all the articals i wrote on the "camcorder" page as for the photos copyright it was one i made myself from two photos from a expired ebay listing these photos are designed to fade and deleate over time with age on expired ebay listings, and ebay photographs are not protected by copyright. they are share and share alike. but like i said unless there is some way to put the articals back on the "camcorder " main wiki page i guess it is going to be deleated any way. is the editor that deleated the articals decission final should i mke a appeal? thanks
- This has been explained to you before, but - you are seriously mistaken about ebay photographs. Wikipedia has to assume that anything you find anywhere on the web is protected by copyright unless the creator has explicitly stated that it's in the public domain. Which means that you can't just copy it and use it here. It is true that many people find images on the web and use them in ebay listings. That is very often a violation of the creator's copyright. ebay does not enforce this unless the copyright holder finds out about it and asks them to take an image down. Wikipedia's standards are more strict. Jeh (talk) 07:51, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
January 2014
[edit]Please stop using talk pages such as talk:betamax for general discussion of the topic. They are for discussion related to improving the article; not for use as a forum or chat room. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. See here for more information. Thank you. Besides the fact that you are posting voluminous material that is not about improving the article (it is rather about promoting your own unique points of view), you are not supposed to go back and make significant changes to what you've already written - any new text you add to a talk page should be at the bottom of an existing section. If you think that anything you are writing is not final, you could post it to your own "sandbox" page, edit it as you like, and then, when you are finished with it, post it to a talk page.
As it is you have seriously mangled the flow of posts and replies to that page. You also have posted lengthy material to a section that had last been updated almost ten years ago and which should have been archived. Please DO NOT go back in and try to fix it, however.
This sort of thing is why I think mentoring would be helpful to you. Please consider finding a Wikipedia mentor, by means I already mentioned. Thank you. Jeh (talk) 08:00, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Betamax c7.jpeg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Betamax c7.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Replaceable fair use File:Betamax HDCAM-SR CAMCORDER.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Betamax HDCAM-SR CAMCORDER.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 20:32, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Digital camcorders hitachi and sharp.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Digital camcorders hitachi and sharp.jpg, which you've attributed to https://secure.flickr.com/photos/john_dowsett/5716978768/in/photostream/. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Photos
[edit]If you ever upload any photos which are not copyright violations, please note: Creative Commons-licensed and PD images go on the Commons. There is no need to put the entire story in the image name, eg. "Leicester Station entrance 1890" rather than "Brand new entrance for Leicester in 1890 the entrance relocated fron Station street at the side to now be erected on London road bridge", the chat goes in the image description. Photos should be JPGs rather than TIFs or PNGs. Why on earth did you replace the Leicester station images with TIFs? And whilst it would be polite to quote the immediate source you used for these two images, I am sure you would be safe applying a {{pd-old}} tag. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 00:33, 19 January 2014 (UTC) there is no way i could put the description on the page without it being removed so it will have to remain in the description box and as for putting a sourse to the photos i did "john gough"

Talk page comments
[edit]On Talk:Leicester railway station, you wrote:
- It is very important to keep a accurate record of the stations history and must be totally correct by 2015 because this is the stations 175th anniversary. Please do not edit the page if you are just in it to graffiti your name we need facts and removing correct data because "you wrote the article first does not give you licence to be incorrect for your own designer sake.PLEASE BE KIND TO THIS PAGE
Please understand that Wikipedia operates on a principle that there is no deadline by which articles must be complete, and that they are under a constant state of improvement. The fact that this station celebrates a milestone in 2015 is of relatively minor importance. It is extremely unlikely that the article will be "done" by then, as it will continue to undergo improvements as long as there is a Wikipedia to edit.
Also, please assume good faith on the part of other editors. Changes that you have made have been undone because there does not appear to be any reliable source to verify the changes you have made. Simply saying, "I know this to be true, and I know that the article is wrong so I must fix it" is insufficient. You must be able to prove that your changes are true and address errors in the article. The reversion of your edits is a good faith effort on the part of others to assure that Wikipedia remains verifiable as much as possible. Given the changes you are proposing, you must have sources for this knowledge. It is doubtful that you come by the knowledge of the history of this station through the end of the nineteenth century first-hand, so you must have read about that somewhere. Cite the source from which you read the information, and the changes will likely be allowed. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:23, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

- A photo alone will no be sufficient verification because there is not way to prove when the photo was taken. You will need a published article or book documenting the construction. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:09, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

- It should have shown up in the "References" section in the article. In any case, WP is not an almanac; see WP:NOT, particularly the part that says "not a collection of indiscriminate information". We don't list sunrise, sunset, etc., times in the article for London. Why would we list them for Hale End? (And will you PLEASE learn to properly format talk page entries?) [edit] Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to use talk pages for inappropriate discussion, as you did at Talk:Betamax/Archive 1, you may be blocked from editing.
*sigh* Here we go again, John. Your edits in the areas of video recorders continue to not be about improving the article, but rather about espousing your own opinions - opinions which are completely unsupported by any citation of facts, only by your own "reasoning"; in fact, they are refuted by easily-found histories of events, many of which are cited in the articles. Your opinions (even if they are well-founded) belong on your own blog, not on Wikipedia: Not in articles, not in talk pages, not on your own user pages. (Perhaps you should send an article to one of the home theater enthusiast web sites, like AVSforum, and see if they'll host it.)
In addition, you have edited a talk archive page. Do not edit archive pages. Did you miss the warning at the top of that page that said "do not edit this page"? That page is an archive of past discussion.
Your editing an archive page is an example of a more general problem: Your ongoing refusal or inability to get the point, to learn what is and is not acceptable on WP -- along with your apparent inability to write anything but illogical, unsupported, impossible-to-follow, stream-of-consciousness gibberish, in "text walls" hundreds of words long -- is wasting other editors' time and as such is disruptive. Please stop. Jeh (talk) 03:36, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Talk:Betamax/Archive 1. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted or removed. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Administrators have the ability to block users from editing if they repeatedly engage in vandalism. Please do not edit archive pages. [edit]Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to use talk pages for inappropriate discussion, as you did at Talk:Betamax/Archive 1, you may be blocked from editing. This refers to your repeated edits of a talk archive page. In addition to your continued use of a talk page as a forum for your personal opinions, something that is prohibited by WP:TALK, you have been editing a talk archive page. Such pages are supposed to be a record of past, closed discussions. You are not allowed to edit them, ever. I have therefore reverted your edits and will continue to do so. You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Talk:Betamax/Archive 1. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:09, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
