Scouting FARC
[edit]Care to explain this since the only person who thought it should go to FARC was the nom and even he admitted the refs were fixed and everyone else thought issues were not FARC worthy, minor, etc? — Rlevse • Talk • 02:58, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- The nominator him/herself did not strike his/her other (even though minor) concerns. In any case, two weeks in FARC should not hurt the article if it is indeed up to FA standards. Joelito (talk) 03:22, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- Minor concerns do not warrant losing FA status. What really irks me is the nom didn't even bring this up on the talk page first. I don't mind improvements to the article but the way the nom went about it and the obvious weak rationale (except for refs, which was fixed and stricken) left a lot to be desired. It's possible the nom isn't even watching the FAR now. — Rlevse • Talk • 03:28, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- Nom has asked the FAR be withdrawn. See FAR page. — Rlevse • Talk • 20:53, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- I will take a look later today. Joelito (talk) 12:44, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Speed of FAR process
[edit]The FAR page says that an article normally stays in the discussion phase 2-3 weeks, but I see some articles that stagnate there with no improvements for close to a month now. Shouldn't these be move to the FARC phase sooner? I'm asking this because there are more articles that should be nominated for FAR, but the FAR page recommends that an editor open only one FAR at a time. Xasodfuih (talk) 17:26, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- This is entirely my fault. I have been slow to move articles from FAR to FARC. Please let me know which article you feel should me moved to FARC. Joelito (talk) 04:54, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
The WikiProject Puerto Rico Newsletter Year III - Issue 1 - Fall & Winter 2008-09

The WikiProject Puerto Rico Newsletter Year III - Issue 1 - Fall & Winter 2008-09
| |
Hello, Joelr31. This is the sixth issue of WikiProject Puerto Rico's newsletter. The newsletter is intended to help all members to keep up with the latest news relating to the project. Continuing our new format, this issue will discuss the news, achievements and other incidences relevant to our project between fall and winter. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:34, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Greetings, during the past months, there has been a lot of activity and active discussion surrounding articles within our scope. Of particular interest is one that took place in Flag of Puerto Rico, in which several project members exposed their points of view regarding the tones of our flag. Ultimately, research brought forth a severe loophole in the regulation employed by the Senate of Puerto Rico. Our flag doesn't have official tones! Attempting to prevent future conflicts, I presented a proposal in the project's talk page. The subsequent discussion served as an perfect example of consensus. Thanks to everyone for your participation. In other news, our friend Tony the Marine added another impressive achievement to his brilliant resume. On December 8, 2008, his DYK hook for Ivan Castro (soldier) broke the previous all-time record for more views, receiving 71,300 visits. Tony has also been actively cooperating with this Newsletter, the inclusion of a new "Did you Know?" section, was entirely his idea. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:34, 16 February 2009 (UTC) |

Stepping down
[edit]Are you sure about this? Is there any way I can convince you to change your mind? Raul654 (talk) 21:15, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
- I also wish you would reconsider, Joelito; you are such an effective delegate there, often stepping in to the most difficult decisions. Perhaps having YellowMonkey as a backup will make the work more enjoyable for you? Also, many that are currently on the page have declarations from YellowMonkey, meaning that he shouldn't be the one to close them. You are a real asset at FAR, and losing you would be sad; is there anything that will make this easier for you? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:51, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- I will stay for a while longer but I desire to edit articles again. At the moment 95% of my time in Wikipedia is spent reading FARs. I appreciate both Raul's and your requests but I think it is time for me to step down and let new people take care of FAR. Joelito (talk) 15:57, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- The timing of Marskell's return is still uncertain; would you be able to hang in there a while longer? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:59, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- I cannot guarantee anything since there is no return date for Tim. Time will tell. Joelito (talk) 23:40, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- The timing of Marskell's return is still uncertain; would you be able to hang in there a while longer? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:59, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Well, I don't think I should close the ones where I already advocated a position in the second half, although I think in quite a few of them, the articles were quite abandoned, so you don't have to think about too much. Epa, Joelito, ¿qué tal? I don't know if you saw Raul's note on my talk page, but YellowMonkey may have quit, and Raul put out a query about appointing another FAR delegate. It looks like YM isn't currently closing FARs, so I was hoping to trouble you to do the next run through ? Espero que sigas bien alli ... saludos, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:06, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Soccer in PR
[edit]I would suggest that while soccer is not at the level of basketball, baseball and volleyball, its popularity has been increasing dramatically:
- The Islanders are moving up and developing a very strong fan base-they sold out at Juan Ramón Loubriel Soccer Stadium in their game against Mexico's Cruz Azul with tickets selling for twenty bucks, much more than most other tickets.
- Soccer is increasingly being taught in private and some public schools
- Soccer leagues are developing in many communities---Fraigcomar and others
It probably already is the fourth most popular sport in PR. Pr4ever (talk) 00:39, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- I could make a similar argument for wrestling but I would not compare it with baseball, basketball and boxing. Joelito (talk) 01:33, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Joel. Can you move this down please? I normally don't have a problem with moving my own noms down as long as I don't close them but in this case I think there would be a riot...the author has said that he feels that citations aren't needed anyway so I don't think extra time is needed (it's been on FAR about 4 weeks without any action) YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 00:57, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

The article Puerto Rican Amazon is schedule to appear as the main page featured article in the near future
[edit]Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of this article know that it will be appearing as the main page featured article on October 22, 2010. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/October 22, 2010. If you think that it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured article director, Raul654 (talk · contribs). If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! TbhotchTalk C. 19:27, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
The Puerto Rican Amazon is the only bird endemic to the archipelago of Puerto Rico belonging to the Neotropical genus Amazona. Measuring 28–30 cm (11–12 in), the Puerto Rican Amazon is a predominantly green parrot with a red forehead and white rings around the eyes. Two subspecies have been described, although there are doubts regarding the distinctiveness of the form gracilipes from Culebra Island, extinct since 1912. The Puerto Rican Amazon reaches sexual maturity between three and four years of age. It reproduces once a year and is a cavity nester. Once the female lays eggs she will remain in the nest and continuously incubate them until hatching. The chicks are fed by both parents and will fledge 60 to 65 days after hatching. This parrot's diet is varied and consists of flowers, fruits, leaves, bark and nectar obtained from the forest canopy. The species is the only remaining native parrot in Puerto Rico and has been listed as critically endangered by the World Conservation Union since 1994. Once widespread and abundant, the population declined drastically in the 19th and early 20th centuries with the removal of most of its native habitat; the species completely vanished from Vieques and Mona Island, nearby to the main island of Puerto Rico. Conservation efforts commenced in 1968 to save the bird from extinction. In 2006, the total estimated population was 34 to 40 individuals in the wild and 143 individuals in captivity. (more...)

Please can you address these issues. thank you Jbrito (talk) 09:48, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- @Joelr31 - not sure why he posted this here
- @JBrito - the talk page was deleted because its title contained your email address, and you want all mention of your email address removed; the more you keep posting it in messages like this, the more it will get picked up by spambots. Now your account has been renamed and the redirects from the old one which contained your email address have been deleted, your email address is no longer on view anywhere in Wikipedia, unless you post it again. MSU Interview
[edit]Dear Joelr31,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talk • contribs) 23:04, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
[edit]Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in more than one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three-year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three-year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Extended confirmed protection
[edit]Hello, Joelr31. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

— xaosflux Talk 23:56, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

The file File:Isabela seal.gif has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
unused, low-res, no obvious use
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
