Hey, I'm workin on it. I was trying to revert as you did. Give me a minute please, unless you can fix it yourself. Try not to be so gung-ho about 'helping'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 156.26.17.11 (talk) 19:23, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

What is it you're trying to fix? It was not obvious (for example, you provided no edit summary), or I would have gladly corrected the change.
Please remember to:
  • Put new posts at the bottom of talk pages
  • Sign your posts
  • Provide edit summaries
  • Assume good faith (had you provided an edit summary, it is likely someone, or myself, would have corrected it for you rather than reverting).
Cheers, JoeSperrazza (talk) 19:33, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Before you edited this page, i posted again (on the bottom of your page) listing the problem. It is also now on the Tiger Balm discussion page, as I do not know how to properly fix it. 156.26.17.11 (talk) 19:40, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! I tried adding that brace in the sandbox, but it didn't appear as though it would work. Oh well, it's fixed so that's good for me! 156.26.17.11 (talk) 19:44, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
(Edit Conflict) See Talk:Tiger_Balm#Composition. Fixed. The timing of your talk page entry on the article came after my comment - apologies if I missed it otherwise. As for your comment added to the bottom of this page, I'm afraid an edit conflict interfered. All's well that ends, well, however. P.S. Please indent your comments using ":". Thanks for the updates. I hope you will alert me to everywhere that links back to User:Reisio in the future as well, very handy! :D Goodness knows I can't find those pages myself. ¦ Reisio (talk) 20:08, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

You are welcome. See Special:Contributions/Reisio if you are having the trouble you mention. Regarding the WP:SPI, I noticed you hadn't been notified, so I did so. I didn't make the report, and don't have a strong opinion on the issue. A very brief glance at the edit histories suggests that the reporting user may be mistaken. As for the Warning header on your talk page, see Wikipedia:Template_messages/User_talk_namespace#Layout for its use, and use of warning templates such as I placed on your talk page earlier. Cheers, JoeSperrazza (talk) 20:14, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Like I said I appreciate it; I hope you'll continue to inform me of such things gratis for the foreseeable future. As for the Warning header, that page doesn't appear to be policy, so I don't really care what it says (and even if it were policy, there'd probably be other policy contradicting it), but it is admirable that you were following some convention, I suppose. :) Mostly I'm not interested in your warning because it's unjustified. If you look at the preceding discussion on my talk page, you can see that User:EncMstr reverted me for approximately the same reason you did. He asked me to give a summary, so I did (one he's personally used before). If you didn't think my edit was a "cleanup", I'd hope you would explain why. ¦ Reisio (talk) 20:22, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Regarding the removal of the tag, if the article has not been substantially improved in terms of the issue (references), than removal of the tag is not cleanup. As I noted on the article's talk page, I don't see that the article has been improved in terms of references, hence my revert of your removal. Please continue this discussion regarding that article on the article's talk page, should you choose to continue discussion. Thanks JoeSperrazza (talk)
To me, a giant, redundant, and clearly ineffective box makes an article less clean. ¦ Reisio (talk) 20:30, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
While I agree it is less clean, a more productive approach, rather than searching for such boxes and removing them ("drive by removals") would be to improve the article. Leaving the box allows them to be in a category for those who look for such articles to improve. If you have knowledge of the subject, or the article has special meaning for you, why not lookup and add some references yourself? JoeSperrazza (talk) 20:36, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
I don't search for them, I merely remove the redundant and ineffective on a case by case basis, as I come upon them. If they take more than a year in their looking, I question whether they will ever find it. "If you have knowledge…", that's exactly what I'd ask RexxS. ¦ Reisio (talk) 20:40, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Please use ":" to indent each entry. If you care to not follow that convention on your talk page, you are of course welcome to do so, but I prefer to follow the convention here. As to your comment, I believe we'd agree there is policy to be considered, and not just your opinion, namely:
I'm glad to have your point of view espoused here, but consider stating it earlier (e.g., in response to warnings on your talk page) and attempting come to consensus, not just redoing the removal (note: you reverted another editor's restoral of the tag in question before you reverted mine. I warned you about your first revert, and about removal of the tag, on your talk page). Cheers JoeSperrazza (talk) 20:48, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Please be sure to read and make sure you understand our policy on usernames before warning users about it; usernames which suggest a conflict of interest aren't prohibited in the policy unless it appears that they are editing on behalf of a group or company, so User:Hannover dk does not appear to be a violation. They've already been warned about their potential conflict of interest, which is the issue here. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 18:01, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you, I appreciate the heads up. JoeSperrazza (talk) 18:12, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
As a follow-up to my own comment:
  • You said "usernames which suggest a conflict of interest aren't prohibited in the policy unless it appears that they are editing on behalf of a group or company"
  • They were "editing on behalf of a group", and created an article which showed a COI. That's why I thought both a username and COI warning were appropriate.
In a future, similar situation (I've seen others very similar), should they only be warned about the COI? Browsing UAA, I've noticed similar situations noted there (but recognize that such things have a human element involved, i.e., different admins interpret policy differently sometimes).
Best regards, JoeSperrazza (talk) 18:16, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
It seems unlikely that the username is being edited by the entire Hannover family, though I take your point; I'm not an admin, so I can't see the content of the now-deleted page they created. I had assumed the page referred to the "Hannover family" as in a family tree which the username is very unlikely to represent; if it was deleted as being a non-notable, small family group, then perhaps there is cause to believe that multiple individuals are using the account after all. Essentially there are two sections of the policy relevant to conflicts of interest as they pertain to usernames: WP:ORGNAME, which forbids the use of company names since they imply they intend to advertise for the company, and WP:NOSHARE, which states that an account may only be operated by a single individual. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 18:22, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
" If it was deleted as being a non-notable, small family group" - yes, that was the case. Unless you disagree, I think I did the right thing in this case, therefore (issuing both COI and Username warnings on their talk page, but not on UAA).
Thanks again, JoeSperrazza (talk) 18:25, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes, in that case it's a possible interpretation that the account is meant to represent the family and your actions were correct; apologies for the misunderstanding. I'm wondering if the "dk" represents the initials of an individual though (or maybe it represents Denmark). GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 18:29, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
dk is the top level domain for Denmark. The article was about a Danish family by the same name. No worries, and thanks for the kind notes. JoeSperrazza (talk) 18:32, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Hey,

Do you think that a WikiProject on School Cleanup would be something of interest? I mean after George H. Moody Middle School was redirected to the main district school site, and your tags, would it be a good idea to start redirecting/merging non-important information back to the district page?

Template for Redirect

The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

I'm not too good at looking stuff up, but do you know if there is a template that we can put on the article telling the viewers abouta proposed redirect? ► Wireless Keyboard ◄ 19:24, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

I believe the talk page notice (such as one I saw you did already) is the best way. I'll look to see if there's a template, but if so, I'm not aware of it. However, there are templates for lack of notability and lack (or no) references. Those should be added to the article's page, as appropriate.
{{Notability|date=January 2011}} {{Unreferenced|date=January 2011}} {{Primary sources|article|date=January 2011}}
{{Notability|date=January 2011}} {{Refimprove|date=January 2011}} {{Primary sources|article|date=January 2011}}
Finally, I'll note that Henrico High School may not be appropriate for a redirect, based on a very liberal interpretation of the WP:GNG:
1. In the lede, the article states:

Newsweek Magazine ranked Henrico High School number 928 in its 1500 top US high schools. Henrico High was the only Henrico County School to make the list in 2009.[http://www.newsweek.com/id/201160 "The Top of the Class The complete list of the 1,500 top U.S. high schools." Newsweek. 9 June 2009.]

2. I've seen it mentioned that while U.S. Elementary and Middle Schools don't get a "free pass" for articles, U.S. High Schools do. This discussion alludes to that. I've not found the base policy discussion that is explicit on that issue.
As a consequence of point 1, I'm inclined to not Redirect or Merge that specific H.S., but instead try to improve it. As a consequence of point 2., I'm inclined to not propose Redirect or Merge of any U.S. High School articles, until or unless we find a policy or discussion that supports doing so. There's plenty of work to do by concentrating on Elementary and Middle schools only, and hopefully less drama will ensue, as well. I'll reiterate that it will make the process easier if everyone involved takes a very liberal view of "asserted notability".
Cheers, JoeSperrazza (talk) 19:51, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Awesome research! I will stick to that. Thanks ► Wireless Keyboard ◄ 19:53, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! Here's the School Page Guidelines: WP:WPSCHOOLS. Let's be careful to follow them liberally (and by that I mean, if unsure, leave the article be). Encouraging good articles is the name of the game. Cheers, JoeSperrazza (talk) 23:41, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Greetings Joe,

I've received your letter about my new editing. I understand well the responsibility new and old contributors have for wikipedia and people who are reading it. The information we provide must be reliable, trustworthy and providing lots of references for it's validation.

Please notice, that the sections I added in the page about Shen Yun, have many references to them and the information is not something "I made up", as it was well documented and published in various media sources. I hope you'll take some time to read it for your reference, to see that what is written is a valuable source of information and can be checked and verified.

I am not affiliated with Shen Yun, but I've seen the show three times when I lived in Toronto. Now I reside in Israel.

Smart edit filter

The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

It's entirely possible that the post removal was accidental - particularly as the edit includes additions from DMS. There is a new "smart edit filter" which I ran afoul of a few times - when editing a section I think it tries to merge changes which previously would have just conflicted. Not 100% sure on the details, but this comes up fairly often :) --Errant (chat!) 23:27, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

The diff clearly shows my text removed, and the editor in question's being added, with one intervening edit. If it is a "smart edit filter" bug that's doing that, its a doozy. My best guess is it was an edit conflict that was ignored. JoeSperrazza (talk) 23:30, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Here's the diff I remembered[1], which prompted me to post this. This came after Dylan Flaherty (talk · contribs) seemed to have erased a comment from another editor (though I'm having trouble locating that diff ATM). Cheers :> Doc talk 00:52, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

On the surface, the circumstances seem different. Moot point, I think, given the editor in question as responded at ANI and the talk page. JoeSperrazza (talk) 01:00, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
I guess the best thing to remember is that there is some sort of "edit conflict" bug out there (as Errant and Boing! said Zebedee confirmed for us), and if the editor vehemently denies purposely erasing another editor's post on a high-profile page like AN/I, it's very possible that it was in fact inadvertent. Dylan was already in quite a bit of hot water when he "did" his, and it made no sense for him to deny it if he had done it on purpose. So it's not an isolated incident we're talking about here. I have registered support or opposition to the various pictures proposed for the lead there, and given reasons or based my support or opposition on reasons already given by others, as everyone there has been doing, but in what way have I been using it as a forum? Hi, I was referring to you not refactoring other's comments, or logging in if they were you. Do read WP:REFACTOR if you have a chance. I am sure you mean well, but it is hard to read some of your talk page comments given that you, at least sometimes, insert your comments between others', and edit your comments after the fact. Except for correcting typos, better to:
  • Strike out things you've changed your mind about or retract
  • Add things below others comments, in chronological order and indented

The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

I appreciate you taking the time for the very tentative and self-contradictory welcome, which includes the threat implied in the warning template you used. However I don't think I will ever create an account on Wikipedia, it seems like a licence for real abuse of privilege as my recent experience with "editors" and "administrators" has taught me. By all means report my abusive behavior to Optimum Online or anyone else, why should I be the only one to have a laugh at this? 68.198.135.130 (talk) 15:38, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry if the templates irritated you. Not registering for an account is your choice. Assuming a less-than-civil attitude won't get you far. Failing to play nice with others or not following the rules will inevitably result in you being blocked again, whether from this IP or another. If you find what you're doing so aggravating, perhaps you should find another way to occupy your efforts, whether it be other articles, other WP tasks, or just finding a better way to get along. JoeSperrazza (talk) 17:30, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
I'm not irritated in the least. Your arguments about civility and playing nice are specious and self-serving. I also have a suggestion: why don't you take a break from administering Wikipedia? Spend some time researching and citing a topic you care nothing about except for the fact that (to your extensive knowledge on the subject) it is portaryed inaccurately or inelegantly. Then have an "administrator" clown all over you. I'm willing to bet that unlike me, you would be irritated. Btw, not nice to have met you. 68.198.135.130 (talk) 00:37, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Well, if you just want to "hit and run" and post unpleasantness mixed with accusations, I'd ask you find someplace other than my talk page to do so. However, if you'd like some help, I (and others, I'm sure) would be glad to oblige. One general way is to place the {{helpme}} template on your talk page. My most fundament suggestion is to tone down your talk page posts. Your comments sufficiently lack good faith and civility such that they are off-putting. This makes it hard to assess your position on content. If you think your edits are correct, and others' are not, make a verbally neutral, rational argument on the talk page(s) of the article(s) in question. Lashing out at people (here, there, anywhere) is a less than optimal way to contribute to the encyclopedia. Best of luck, JoeSperrazza (talk) 01:03, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Neither the WP:TROLL or WP:TE apply here, as all the pages I posted on are directly related to persons involved with this single incident. Is this a fishing expedition? My reactions mirrored the actions others started, as you should be able to tell from the log time and date stamps. In my talk page there are 2 posts of mine and double that number of threatening/warning posts by others. Maybe others (yourself included) should also read the WP:AGF page (for the first time by the looks of it). If I make an edit that accurately portrays an acceptable source I don't need to justify it. The people who hold opposite views should, as it is clear in the editing and citing policy pages here – and there are specific pointers regarding not removing information unless you substitute something better or in extreme cases. Are you ignorant of that point? My view of Wikipedia administrators gets dimmer and dimmer. Btw, if you don't like unpleasantness on your talk page, maybe you shouldn't post unpleasantness on others' talk pages. 68.198.135.130 (talk) 15:04, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Funny how you always urge me to discuss, and then clam up when the going gets tough. OK, fine. Still, there's the case of your thinly concealed attempt at intimidation on my talk page. Is that even legitimate? Do direct me to the appropriate Wikipedia page where I can lodge a complaint about this, would you? 68.198.135.130 (talk) 01:19, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

That's an excellent idea. Do you have one? How do you let people know where it is? As an aside, the talk page protection is only for 1 week, so it should not be a long-term problem. Thanks! JoeSperrazza (talk) 21:28, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
Actually, my talk page isn't protected, so I don't need one (anyone can edit it). If there is semi-protection, policy says that there should be an alternate page for non-autoconfirmed users and IPs, so they can ask a question/comment there because they can't comment on your talk. ► Wireless Keyboard ◄ 21:35, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
I did not know that. Would you mind pointing out the policy (I absolutely believe you, I'd just like to read it). Thanks! JoeSperrazza (talk) 21:42, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
It's the fine print right here. Kinda wierd they don't put it under semi-protection. Although you really don't need to have it, you're only protected for a short time (why did I not see that? Haha). Cheers! ► Wireless Keyboard ◄ 21:48, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
Given that WP:UPPROT says "Users whose talk page is semi-protected for lengthy or indefinite periods of time should have an unprotected user talk subpage linked conspicuously from their main talk page to allow good faith comments from non-autoconfirmed users.", I agree it is not necessary. In this instance, it would more likely just provide a temptation for the IP in question to continue his improper behavior. JoeSperrazza (talk) 21:56, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for noticing this. Do you think a checkuser needs to be done to identify who the IP is?DMSBel (talk) 15:56, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm glad to help. Per Wikipedia:CheckUser, "Checks are inappropriate unless there is evidence suggesting abusive sock-puppetry.". This is sometimes referred to as "Checkuser is not a fishing expedition". Only when there is behavioral evidence of sock-puppetry (e.g., overlap in edits of pages) would a clerk endorse a CU.
Troll are best reverted and ignored.

Querying why DMSBel's religious convictions do not prevent him from editing Wikipedia is a totally legitimate line of discussion and I'm not sure why you're choosing to censor it. 76.105.209.218 (talk) 22:26, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
Hi, I think reasonable people would interpret your comment as a Personal Attack, which are subject to removal by any editor. Whether you agree or not, you are welcome to remove the comment from your Talk page, per WP:USERTALK. For the record, my point of view is likely diametrically opposed from that of DMSBel on the topics which he edits (Also note that I don't edit them), but I do believe in a positive editing environment for everyone. Thank you for that. Unfortunately, it is not necessarily relevant to me, as the editor apparently wants to enlist the efforts of an administrator to help, what, preserve a page? And you, based on that, slap a NPOV warning on my talk page, without even probing why? The nature of my edit is far more neutral than what the other editor is advocating. I have commented on the article's talk page. Also, as you appear to not be an administrator, I will waste no more time with this discussion. 76.66.26.228 (talk) 16:53, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

You can request that the deleting administrator restore it to your user space, where you could edit it to meet WP policies. However:
  • I've not read the article in question, so can't guarantee that it would be considered capable of being salvaged.
  • It is not clear that the subject, regardless of wording, is encyclopedic in any way, as you seem to be saying in the article that there's a conspiracy among administrators to censor Wikipedia, and that conspiracy is comparable to vandalism.
You may want to consider reading WP:NOT and WP:NICE. The article in question seemed to be designed to make a WP:POINT, which is never well received. If, however, you really believe that WP is a conspiracy-driven organization, you'd find many other places online where you would be happier contributing. JoeSperrazza (talk) 20:38, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi JoeSperrazza. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. ISP Tag

The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

You added an ISP tag, which was then removed by the IP here with an absurd edit summary. I was tempted to revert, but I'm not really sure how these tags are added. In other words, I don't know what the process is for determining the pool and the owner of the pool. Anyway, in case you are not watching the IP, I thought I'd give you a heads up. If you wouldn't mind explaining how this works for my benefit, that would be appreciated.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:30, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up.
  • Regarding how they're added, there's two parts - the technical, and the policy:
  1. Technical: In most cases, simply using http://www.ipchecking.com/ will get you the information you need, in terms of host name / reverse DNS and IP whois. Determining if the IP is static or dynamic is not always something definitive. You can use http://robtex.com to check on which, if any, blacklists the IP is listed. Some, like dyn.nszones.com and dul.dnsbl.sorbs.net provide an indication (but not a guarantee) that the IP is not static. However, in the case of this IP, as it is in a Verizon pool, it may be static or dynamic. When in doubt, use the ISP template, which notes it as being possibly shared or able to be reassigned (which it is). Based on the IP's reaction, I'd guess the editor has a permanently assigned IP (you can usually get one for a few more dollars per month) and doesn't want the identifying information shown.
  2. Policy: When to add which ISP-type templates is pretty well described at Template:ISP:
"Once an IP has been warned/blocked a few times, it is usually a good idea to add a header to the IP's talkpage, which identifies the WHOIS information"
Note that I interpret the slash "/" between warned and blocked to be "or".
  • Regarding removal:
  1. Per WP:OWNTALK, a user may remove almost anything (including warnings) from their own talk pages.
  2. Per WP:BLANKING, there is a list of things that may not be removed, including "For IP editors, templates in Category:Shared IP header templates". This same restriction is also noted in WP:DRC.
So, technically, it is perfectly acceptable to WP:REVERT the IP's blanking of the ISP tag. However, I don't interpret that reversion as being required. In theory, you or I or anyone could revert, but then the IP will surely blank it again, and quickly a dispute will ensue - with no real value:
  • The ISP tag is visible in the history
  • A link to the Whois information (which is mostly what is shown in the ISP tag) is at the bottom of every IP's talk page.
Thus, I'm inclined to let it be. The IP editor appears to be looking for conflict - and who needs WP:DRAMA?
Best wishes, JoeSperrazza (talk) 20:40, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
Wow, what a great explanation. Thanks for taking so much time to do so.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:47, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

By policy, you may not remove the ISP tag, as I explained on your talk page [4]. Continuing to do so may result in administrative action, from warning to block. As noted before, to disassociate your IP from your edits, create an account. JoeSperrazza (talk) 18:21, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

scottkriz 04:09, 21 July 2011 (UTC)Scottkriz — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scottkriz (talkcontribs)
Scott,
  • I made a few formatting changes to use wiki-markup per the Manual of Style.
  • There are three open questions:
  1. Is the level of detail provided for this film (a level which I suspect is meant by you to be a template for other such article additions) in violation of the guidelines for "Due Weight"? While the city it was filmed seems, to me, to appropriate to have in each films article, it may be considered to be more detail than it is due. This is likely to be somewhat different from article to article. For some, certain locations (perhaps even all) may be notable in context of the film and the addition wouldn't overwhelm the rest of the article. Read WP:UNDUE and WP:NOTE.
  2. Is the site you reference a Reliable Source? Ultimately the Reliable Source Noticeboard should be consulted, if (as I believe) you intend to update many (all?) films with such references. Read WP:RS, and take a look at WP:RSN.
  3. Given that the site you reference is your site, is it a Conflict of Interest for someone associated with the site (e.g., you, but anyone else overtly or covertly involved in the site) to be adding such references yourself? Read WP:COI and take a look at WP:COIN.
I really appreciate you being up-front about your involvement, and doing a sample edit first. When you have a chance, read the references I provided, and let me know what you think. I'm here to help. Best regards, JoeSperrazza (talk) 05:41, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Joe

I'm going to review the documentation that you suggest today and figure out the best way to contribute content. Thanks for helping with the wiki-markuup. I'll take a look and read the Manual. Hi Joe,

i am hoping you can give me some help with getting logged in properly to all parts of Wikipedia. I created an identity yesterday with which i created a page for Rebecca J. Keck. Please take a look at the page and let me know what you think. Today, i decided to work on links relating to Dr. John H. Rauch, but find that the identity i used yesterday no longer works with the usertalk identity you sent me...? thanks! Greta Nettleton (talk) 22:11, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Greta,
I'm happy to help in any way I can. I'm a little confused by your comments about identity. Your user name is User:Greta Nettleton, and if you click on the link (currently ed) that says Greta Nettleton, that brings you to your user page, which is blank at the moment (which is OK... if you like, you can put a simple message there, like "Hello"). If you click on the blue link here -> User talk:Greta Nettleton, that will bring you to your talk page. Finally, if you click on this blue link here -> Special:Contributions/Greta_Nettleton , you'll see the history of your edits. The latter shows that, among other things, you did create the article Rebecca J. Keck.

Regarding the article Rebecca J. Keck, I'll take a look at it. If I see anything in terms of formatting that needs updating, I'll do so.

Please let me know if you're having any more trouble or questions.

Best regards, JoeSperrazza (talk) 03:22, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Joe, i clicked on the link you sent me and received this message:

Wikipedia does not have a user page with this exact name. In general, this page should be created and edited by User:Greta Nettleton. If in doubt, please verify that "Greta Nettleton" exists. You can also go the login page directly by clicking on this link http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin. Enter your username (Greta Nettleton) in the username field and the password you created in the password field. If you check [x] the Remember me option, assuming the computer you're using is not shared with anyone else, then you'll only have to login every 30 days. 65.102.212.115 (talk) 15:12, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Was this edit a mistake? I can't see how the edit you reverted could be seen as vandalism. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:31, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi, James. When I looked at the change, somehow I read it as the IP adding two left braces to the front of the ISP tag. I actually (mis-)read it twice, and couldn't see a constructive reason for the IP making a formatting error and leaving an edit summary noting a fix to a formatting error.
I guess it was just a bad day on my end, for which I apologize. I'm glad you corrected my error. Thank you, JoeSperrazza (talk) 15:01, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

What is it and why is it needed on my page? 76.125.58.198 (talk) 14:52, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

The IP says it's his home computer. How does that square with it allegedly being a shared IP? Or is it that the IP is dynamic? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots15:32, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the questions!
  • "What is it?" Per Template:ISP, the ISP template "Adds pages to Category:Wikipedia user talk pages of shared IP addresses." This lets editors know that contributions from this IP address are likely to be from different editors over time.
  • "why is it needed on my page?" Per Template:ISP, "Once an IP has been warned/blocked a few times, it is usually a good idea to add a header to the IP's talkpage, which identifies the WHOIS information". Note that I interpret the slash "/" between warned and blocked to be "or".
  • "The IP says it's his home computer" By host name, it clearly is a residential assignment.
  • "How does that square with it allegedly being a shared IP? Or is it that the IP is dynamic? It is the latter. Determining if the IP is static or dynamic is not always definitive. You can use http://robtex.com to check on which, if any, blacklists the IP is listed (this one is listed in two dynamic lists - dyn.nszones.com and dul.dnsbl.sorbs.net). Sometimes, this provide an indication (but not a guarantee) that the IP is not dynamically assigned (meaning, under conditions not always under the users control, the IP can be reassigned). In the case of this ISP, it is definitive that this is not a static IP:
Per Comcast, [5] "Static IP's are only given to business accounts; all residential online service accounts have dynamic IP's."
From a practical perspective, the ISP and hostname are visible to anyone, from links at the bottom of IP talk pages. If the IP editor prefers anonymity, the best approach is to create an account. Happy editing, JoeSperrazza (talk) 01:03, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Yep. With or without the template, I could see his information on the Geolocate feature. Regarding static vs. dynamic, I've had the same underlying IP for at least 3 years, but that might have something to do with the way my service provider does things. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots01:55, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Deluna etc IP blocks?

Hi Joe- I really appreciate you seeing the situation so clearly over on the Marisol Deluna page and in that investigation. I should have kept my cool through it all, but thanks for seeing I was simply frustrated. Moving forward, I was wondering if ElizabethCB123 can be permanently blocked, maybe along with her IP. She's since evaded the block, as you noticed and acted upon. I am nominating page for deletion again - the last time it was all of these now blocked socks and users that basically kept it from happening - and it would be a shame if she could just come back and do it all again (which she certainly shows a history of doing.) Thanks again!Tao2911 (talk) 18:48, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Sock- and meat-puppetry is a problem, sometimes, but I don't think ElizabethCB123 or her IP (which may have changed) yet meet the requirements for a permanent block or ban. Cheers JoeSperrazza (talk) 01:39, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi Joe, coming back from wikivacation, I just learned about this thanks to the template you put on my user page. As the case is closed and I am cleared, could you please remove the template from my user page? Thanks, Racconish Tk 22:15, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Of course. FYI, you're welcome to remove such things yourself, but I'll do it now. JoeSperrazza (talk) 00:29, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Joe, is Deluna now showing up less than a week later using her actual name an evasion of the block? I think it should be pretty clear to all now that it was her all along. And since we can't seem to get action to get the page deleted despite an overwhelming tide for doing so, should we pursue a block on Deluna?Tao2911 (talk) 20:43, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Suggestion for WikiProject United States to support WikiProject Maryland

It was recently suggested that WikiProject Maryland might be inactive or semiactive and it might be beneficial to include it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States. I have started a discussion on the projects talk page soliciting the opinions of the members of the project if this project would be interested in being supported by WikiProject United States. Please feel free to comment on your opinions about this suggestion. --Kumioko (talk) 03:31, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Thank you, I will comment. JoeSperrazza (talk) 13:50, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Hello JoeSperrazza. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Southern fried chicken bun, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: criterion A7 does not apply to products. Thank you. Salvio Let's talk about it! 13:49, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, Salvio. I'll PROD it, then. Cheers, JoeSperrazza (talk) 13:52, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Wicka Wicka block notice removal

Before restoring the block notice again, please see the discussion at User_talk:Drmies#Arsenal_F.C.. No criticism, just FYI. Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 19:38, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

OK. I believe the revert is allowed per WP:3RRNO. JoeSperrazza (talk) 19:40, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
What possible benefit is there to edit warring over the tag? –xenotalk 19:43, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
The policy, as I read it, says it must not be removed. The user has clearly violated WP:3RR (before I even got there), and, IMO, should have talk page access revoked. However, I defer to the judgement of Drmies in not removing such access. JoeSperrazza (talk) 19:45, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
The guideline (currently) only prohibits removal of block notices where an unblock is being requested. Since they seem perfectly willing to sit out their block, they are free to remove the block notice (and they are exempt from 3RR in their userspace). –xenotalk 19:47, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
I wish the policy would be clearer in that regard. My reading of the policy did not make that point in a way that was clear to me. If that's the policy, so be it, and mea culpa - I failed to understand it. I do see that there's lack of consensus in a prior discussion on that point. I would accept either policy (no removals allowed, or removals allowed if not contested) as long as it was unambiguously clear. Apologies if I'm the only one who thinks the wording of the policy could be clearer on this point. Cheers, JoeSperrazza (talk) 19:50, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
No worries. You should feel free to try and re-word it for clarity. –xenotalk 19:57, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
I've made a proposal here. Regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 21:32, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Sockpuppeting allegation

I was somehow accused as being an alias of someone editing as an unregistered user here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/188.27.81.41 I had a weak password, but haven't really had issues in 3 yrs, but after this issue I immediately changed it. How exactly did that IP become connected to me? Running reverse DNS, it's not even in the same continent as I am. Cantaloupe2 (talk) 21:29, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

Ask the blocking administrator for details. JoeSperrazza (talk) 21:33, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
Per your discussion with the blocking admin, I've reverted the IPSock tag and the comment at the RfD. Cheers, JoeSperrazza (talk) 23:58, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

Joe, thank you for your message and extremely helpful information about editing Wikipedia pages. As a new Wikipedia user, I valued the information and guidelines you shared. As you’re likely aware, I have made edits to the entries for carfilzomib and sorafenib on behalf of my client, Onyx Pharmaceuticals. The changes are referenced and are designed to provide updates about the two medications, including recent clinical trial updates for carfilzomib. If there is anything you find inaccurate about the changes, please do let me know. Onyx is committed to ensuring appropriate, updated content about its medicines is available on Wikipedia. Best, Adam Silverstein (talk) 17:01, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Adam, Thanks for noting your COI in advance, and thanks for your careful and sourced edits. JoeSperrazza (talk) 17:50, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi Joe, I am looking to submit a new Wikipedia page about Onyx Pharmaceuticals as a company. There currently is not an existing page with basic information about when the company was founded, where it is located, products it develops or researches and its leadership. I am wondering if you might offer some advice on the best place to submit the page for reviewers' consideration. Is it on the discussion tab of my talk page, or as a new section? Alternatively, should I submit for review as a talk page under Onyx Pharmaceuticals? I would appeciate any insights you could share so I can ensure to allow for a conversation about this page and follow appropriate protocols. Thank you. Denver Mountain Parks etc.

Buaidh referred me to you in hopes you can guide me a bit on some editing. As I told him (?) I've been attempting to do some cleanup on pages (e.g., Dedisse Park and Bergen Park) and discovered Denver was credited with Elk Meadow Park, so fixed that. That latter page needs work! They all do-- but Elk Meadow was so different I almost didn't know how to start! Is there a good pattern/model/template that should be followed for pages like these? (Parks, communities?)

I'm trying to get back in to editing, but am not up on the gadgets. Or the lingo. I joined WP:Colorado, and would like to focus on content for parks and history, but may need some backup or cleanup until I get up to speed. Buaidh says you need a page on Jefferson County Open Space, and maybe I can get to that sometime. If you could take a look at the Elk Meadow piece and jump in or give me suggestions, it'd be appreciated.

Also, is anyone else working on Jeffco history-- could that be a subproject or task force? Just a thought... I'm off to add a history section to Indian Hills. Another thought: how about a page listing CCC projects in Colorado?

Thanks!! Araucana (talk) 18:49, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
