looking at the history of my chess game page

Wikidata/interlanguage query

Hi Jasper. I wonder whether you might be able to lend a hand with something that's a bit (a lot, actually) outside my comfort zone? I'm doing some work on the en-wiki article Juldarigi, and would like to add an interwiki link to ko-wiki's article 줄다리기. Unfortunately, that article already links to the en-wiki page Tug of war, and so I can't add it to the Juldarigi page. I've had a read of WP:Interwiki conflicts, which frankly I can't make head nor tail of, and H:IL isn' a lot of help. I've never taken the plunge into Wikidata so I'm frankly scared to try coming up with a solution there, in case I accidentally break the internet or something... could you explain to me how to fix the problem? HP OneView page

Hi Jasper,

I am attempting to create the page on HP OneView. I understand the notability guidelines and feel that HP OneView meets these guidelines because it has been widely reported on by the media.

If you could please let me know piece by piece where you feel the article is overly promotional, I will address it. I have backed up almost every sentence with citations that meet Wikipedia guidelines, so it would be helpful to know where you feel the entry falls short.

@ITwriter47: I think the entirety of what you wrote reads like it was copy-pasted from a company website (I assume you are aware of rules regarding plagiarism). There is never a need to say "integrated", "portfolio", or any other typical IT marketing terms. They tend to be vague or otherwise too promotional. I know you're new and sometimes I feel like we ask a lot for articles, but organizing it by product is not the way layout works on Wikipedia. Reno TV articles

Thanks for the help here; as you've maybe seen, I've blocked the range that you suggested. I'm sorry that I needed to request your help, but I've read and reread the rangeblocking pages (both IPV$ and IPV^) plenty of times without being able to figure things out, and rangeblocking quintillions of IP addresses based solely on my own initiative would have been reckless and very far indeed from a proper application of WP:BOLD. As WP:RANGE says, "you need some knowledge of how networks and IP address numbering work", and I don't have that knowledge, so it's just a ton safer to follow your instructions than to go ahead with what sounds best to me. Filter bug blocking edits to a page

Hi Jasper, I'm sorry if it's improper to contact you about this. I'm new to Wikipedia editing and saw your name on the filter false positives page so I thought you might be able to look into this problem for me.

It concerns filter 225, "Vandalism in all caps", and the WTFPL FOSS license page. Because the WTFPL license contains blocks of text that are in ALL CAPS, this filter is throwing false positives all over the place, even on some edits that don't seem to touch the license text itself.

I already filed a false positive report for the edit I made but that's not what I'm contacting you about. I was wondering if you could do anything to either improve the filter itself or whitelist the WTFPL article in some fashion so that it can be maintained without tripping the "all caps" filter? I mean, if the article is supposed to contain all caps, it makes no sense for a vandalism filter blocking all caps to be applied to it. I'm a law student and I have a lot of interest in FOSS licensing. I've studied the WTFPL, various GPLs, and other "copyleft" licenses and would like to improve how the articles for these licenses-- particularly the more obscure ones like WTFPL-- are maintained. But this filter is a prohibitively massive roadblock to that. Is there anything you can do; and, if not, can you recommend anything at least? Thanks! Por1h0s (talk) 22:29, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

The filter only looks for new edits containing the offending text. After you make a few more edits, the filter should no longer cause issues, as it's mainly geared towards new accounts or logged-out editors. Whitelisting the license pages might just encourage such users to vandalize those pages in this fashion.--Jasper Deng (talk) 22:44, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

IPv6 prefix overly blocked

Hi Jasper,

I am aware that the blocking policy is set by each individual part of wikipedia (what a nice mess) but can you possibly forward this message to the right people so that they exempt the 2001:1af8:fe00::/39?

We have attempted to provide details at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jasper_Deng/IPv6

to get IPv6 in a better 'blocking' state, that is so that the admins know what to block and who to contact.

Unfortunately it seems that even though for instance:

is banned because of:

That is a complete /32 being blocked.

Note that the /39 that SixXS uses out of that /32 is in RIPE whois:

Can you please exempt the 2001:1af8:fe00::/39 used by users of nlhaa01 (https://www.sixxs.net/pops/leaseweb/) as these are actual users, not hosted customers like the rest of that /32?

@JeroenMassar: We have a {{webhostblock}}: Special:BlockList/2001:1af8:fe00::/39. Unfortunately it is not possible at this time to exempt subranges from a rangeblock. Individual users can request exemptions on a per-account basis by requesting IP block exemption. That is a block for the whole /32 of Leaseweb, which is indeed primarily a hosting company. The 2001:1af8:fe00::/39 out of that is for SixXS though which are endusers. I'll see if Elockid is willing to resolve this problem properly... Jeroen (talk) 15:40, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews

Hello Jasper Deng. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

No, that was vandalism. The edit was based upon leaked information which has not yet been independently verified or confirmed, and was being hosted by a random blog, which in turn, supposedly got the document from a borderline warez forum. 2014 South Napa earthquake

The edit you reverted was unreferenced and poorly written.
