What is the reason for using {{la}}? MrKIA11 (talk) 23:26, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

It seemed better to me to have direct links to talk pages and logs (in the case of deletion). If you disagree, feel free to revert my change. JACOPLANE • 2008-04-7 14:24
Do you know of any other templates that don't have as many links, possibly just talk pages and logs? I though I had seen some before, but I can't seem to be able find them. MrKIA11 (talk) 22:02, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Looking at Wikipedia:Template messages/Links, I can't spot any right now. Of course, we could always create a new template, which shouldn't be too hard since we can just copy {{la}}. JACOPLANE • 2008-04-7 22:11
Actually I think those thinks links are good. I find myself using them quite a bit. Good idea. MrKIA11 (talk) 13:43, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

"one game in a career shouldn't have its own header"

Hi. Where in Wikipedia does any style guide or policy say this? You removed a sub-header, not a header, which prefaced a controversial incident in the life or career of the subject Pieter Vink. Please now tell me why I should not restore this stylemark, quoting the style guideline or policy which disallows it. You will subsequently find that there is much work to do removing other instances in other similar articles if you are proven right. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 19:16, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

The reason I removed the header is because it is a rather insignificant event in the referee's career. Wenger himself has dismissed the whole "controversy", saying "There is no credence in [the reports]. A referee is like a manager - you want a clear game and to do your job well. I have no suspicion at all." [1] I'm not going to start Wikilawyering with you over which policy says what because it seems rather common sense to me. JACOPLANE • 2008-04-6 21:23
Here's Wenger complaining again about a referee: [2]. Clear penalty, I'm sure you'll agree. JACOPLANE • 2008-04-8 22:30
Whatever. Good editing. Ref (chew)(do) 20:10, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

StarCraft images.

So I can just upload the images to the the new names and you'll delete the old ones for me? Thanks Jacoplane, I'll note the ones to delete in this section. -- Sabre (talk) 16:13, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Ok, lets start off. These can all go, I've reuploaded them with the organised names. Added some more. More to come later. This should be the last lot. Thanks Jacoplane!

Would you mind deleting these too? They didn't come out as I hoped, so I don't want to use them now.

-- Sabre (talk) 09:33, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Talk pages? For the images or my archived ones that I just requested speedy deletion of? Either way, go ahead. -- Sabre (talk) 16:56, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Well did it work?

Well I very nearly fell foul of Wikipedia:Don't_template_the_regulars when I saw that test page. I'm guessing there was probably a good reason since you're an admin, now I'm just curious. Ignore me if I'm being more nosey than I should :) --BrucePodger (talk) 22:14, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes it did :) I've set up an RSS feed that filters out new articles on Wikipedia related to video games (we use that here), but it no longer seemed to be working. So I created a new article which included "Infobox VG", which is one of the things that is filtered out, so I was just testing if my test article would be picked up by my RSS feed. Hope that helps :) JACOPLANE • 2008-04-10 22:20
Makes sense.  :) --BrucePodger (talk) 22:27, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Since you're probably online here

I left you a comment on your Commons RfA. Good luck. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 10:29, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I just noticed, thanks for your support! I'll be more active in the commons namespace from now on :) JACOPLANE • 2008-04-11 10:32
I sure hope so - as I said, closing a day's worth of discussions isn't my idea of a fun time (well, you could say it is, since I did it...). See 'ya around. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 10:41, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Pagecounts

Hi,

I'm just waiting to get my account at the toolserver working. (I got kicked off my previous server when I ran the bot for its excessive bandwidth usage so need to find somewhere wikipedia based; as with anything there's a lot of waiting for beaurocrats! I hope it'll be running in the next week or so.)

{{xboxp}}

I was wondering if you could help me with something? I see that you helped make the VG Project box and I was wondering help me with this problem. I'm from WikiProject Xbox and for some reason our infobox does this. Thanks. BW21.--BlackWatch21 22:23, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

RSS Feed

Since the RSS feed was not working (for me at least; no one responded to my post on the VG talk page), I created a new feed, and increased the size to the newest 1000 pages instead of 500. MrKIA11 (talk) 16:29, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi,

Stats pages already exist (something I learnt yesterday!) at stats.grok.se - and are quite niftily implemented. Of course, there's no way to include the data in the Wikipedia templates; I suspect that even tagging pages with categories such as "high traffic video games page" will be too much site traffic to be deemed worthwhile.

Verisimilus T 08:56, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

P.S. thanks for the offer of sorting out a server! I do now have space at the ToolServer which can be used if useful. Verisimilus T 08:59, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Louvre

Hi! I saw you added a photograph to the Louvre article. Some other editors and I have been engaged in a major overhaul of the article and...well...since you demonstrated an interest, would you consider stopping by and helping out if you have the time? You can see our discussion on the talk page! Any help would be appreciated. Lazulilasher (talk) 00:51, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Man!

I had tried to add the page on Sand Storm, but it was invalid. Thanks for the help! Sand storm was my first video game ever, and I respect it very much. NatWill2 (talk) 23:59, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Bendtner

Hi, I've reverted your changes to the font size in Nicklas Bendtner's career stats tables, on the basis that at 90% they were unnecessarily difficult to read. Please remember when making changes like this that not all your readers have perfect eyesight and wide monitors :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:09, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Templates : Football player statistics

Hello. Thank you for being interested in the template which I made. I carried how to use template here : Template:Football player statistics 1. Cheers. --Nameless User (talk) 00:38, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Why did'nt you convert the external links you removed from above into references. That would have better then just removing them. Djln--Djln (talk) 11:18, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Future of Task Forces(part two: Atari)

(a message I left on WPVG talk page) In archive 41, we talked about sending video game series task forces into whole Publisher task forces. Example: Devil May Cry to Capcom. I would like to request that the actual creators of the task forces would meet here to discuss the issue I talk of in Archive 41.Gears Of War 01:50, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

What's the problem? He IS moving to Dynamo Kyiv, here, if you understand Croatian (this is his current club's official website saying he and his agent are going to Kyiv tomorrow for him to undergo a medical and sign for Dynamo http://www.nk-dinamo.hr/vijest/prikaz/904/Default.aspx ) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.172.7.154 (talk) 20:33, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, fine, add it tomorrow, but just because there's no news in English doesn't mean it's not true. Ajax stories were speculation, as were the Celtic ones. The Kyiv one is true and it doesn't get more official than when the club says it in their statement.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.172.7.154 (talk) 22:11, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Time Zone

So apparently the dutch are a day and a half behind the rest of the world? --Lemmey talk 11:44, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi! I had already uploaded a slightly differently cropped version, Image:R ferdinand.jpg. I don't think we need both. Which one do you prefer? Regards, --Kjetil r (talk) 21:59, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Er, right, sorry, I hadn't noticed you'd already uploaded the image. I don't care which one we'll keep, I'll delete my version tomorrow I guess. JACOPLANE • 2008-05-26 22:37

UEFA Badge of Honour

You can't take it upon yourself to reject a merger proposal. Please contribute to the discussion at Talk:European Champion Clubs' Cup#Merge_UEFA_Badge_of_Honour so we can try to arrive at a consensus. jnestorius(talk) 23:14, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for tagging those articles! I completely forgot to do it! -- Sabre (talk) 14:25, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

What's Up?

Yes. It is quite a funny story how I got that username. Despite being Colombian I fondly admire Germany and totally love the German national football team (I also like Netherlands and Turkey... and with Germany already in the EURO semi-finals I hope that NED and TUR win their respective matches :)) Anyways, my original idea for username was "Spielführer", which translates "team captain" in the football language ("capitán de campo" in spanish). Unfortunately for me, Wiki does not accept the word "führer" even when combined with another word (for obvious reasons) so I searched for synonyms and found that curious, long and rarely used in everyday German word, Mannschaftskapitän.

I am glad of helping out with Huntelaar's article. It was a minor edit but, well, it improved the article's appereance. I am sure that it will be soon a featured article, you have done a great job with the page. With all this EURO fever I am focused in football related pages, especially in those of biographical nature. We'll be in touch and well, let's keep on improving and updating all the players' data! If you need me for aything related to football don't hesitate to leave me a message. Mannschaftskapitän (talk) 22:32, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Chamakh

86.148.101.209 (talk) 20:11, 24 June 2008 (UTC) I notice you've protected the Mourane Chamakh page (quite sensible really, given all the nonsense flying about). However, I'm not sure whether you noticed, but there's still an 'and is joining Newcastle' at the top of the page, which appears to be unsubstantiated. [aside: I was going to create an account so you knew who it was who was telling you this, but after 11 attempts to create a username, constantly getting the message that all the variations of my name appeared to be in use, I gave up!]

Free license video game images

Hey Jaco, I've been thinking of making some subpages on the VG Portal for images, similar to Portal:Video games/Featured article; something to add some more variety to the portal. Anyway, I was looking in Category:Ubisoft screenshots, and I thought there were more. Do you happen to have a list of some kind or know where more free license VG images are located, if any? (Guyinblack25 talk 14:47, 28 June 2008 (UTC))

There are a bunch of images here commons:Category:Video game screenshots. JACOPLANE • 2008-06-29 15:51
Awesome. I'll try to get it set up some time next week. Thanks. (Guyinblack25 talk 21:56, 29 June 2008 (UTC))

Update: Hey, I gave it try just now and it looks to be working. I started out with six images Image 1, Image 2, Image 3, Image 4, Image 5, and Image 6. I'll add some more later this today and the rest of the week as I stumble across good ones. Feel free to change them out if you can find some better pictures.

Also, what do you think of changing Portal:Video games/Picture to a list like Portal:Video games/Featured article? (Guyinblack25 talk 15:43, 30 June 2008 (UTC))

Cool, nicely done. I'm kind of busy at the moment but when I have more time I'll look into it. The featured article list is mainly there as a good overview so it's easy to see all the items the portal switches between, so yeah, that would probably be handy. Cheers, JACOPLANE • 2008-06-30 20:21

Something else I wanted to run by you. I just made this page, Portal:Video games/Did you know/March, as an example of something else to add to the portal. Kind of like a "This month is gaming history" or something like that. Anyway, I was going to make one for each month, list about 5-6 interesting items, and set the portal to display for the current month. Any thoughts? (Guyinblack25 talk 16:21, 1 July 2008 (UTC))

I tried to do something similar back in 2006, but I wanted to include the WP:VG community in doing so, but never got much feedback, so I let it go. If you look at the main page DYK: Wikipedia:Did_You_Know#The_DYK_Rules, they use only new articles, so perhaps we could do something similar in collaboration with WP:VG/N. It would be a nice way to give a little more prominence to new articles. But anyway, I really applaud you for your overhaul of the portal, it's been on my list of things to do for about a year, but I've just been too lazy to do it. Are you eventually going to try to make this a featured portal? JACOPLANE • 2008-07-2 00:38
Also, maybe we should move this discussion to WT:VG, perhaps merge it with the section where I announced your changes to the portal? JACOPLANE • 2008-07-2 00:40
Well, I don't know if I'm willing to go for a featured portal. My time on here has been very sporadic and I don't have much time to commit to a Featured candidacy. But it would cool.
Anyway, I've been trying to think of ways to add some dynamic content to the portal that is also very low maintenance. I agree that having a "Did you know?" for new VG articles would be good. My only issue with it is that it would require a good deal of participation from the community. If the community can't maintain the process, then the content suffers. Creating content that draws from a pool means that only the "Current events" section needs to be maintained.
And yeah, go ahead and move the discussion to WT:VG. (Guyinblack25 talk 02:07, 2 July 2008 (UTC))

Hey, I did some changes to the portal to add that "gaming history" section and rearranged things a bit. I figured it's better to see this stuff than just talk about it. Let me know what you think and if you think the new section is worth keeping. (Guyinblack25 talk 15:04, 2 July 2008 (UTC))

Thanks for uploading the lower resolution version of that, it was on my "to do" list for today but you beat me to it! :-) --Stormie (talk) 22:25, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

The image you deleted of mine was found on a fan site of the player, under a free image license as they were mostly self developed. I had no idea that it was off the specified website you provided.

Just to clear up something, I didnt state in the description that I took the image completely myself. I did clearly state that it was found on a free photo fan site which other users took and uploaded with a free license. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Domiy (talkcontribs) 23:26, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Spore (2008 video game)

Hello Jacaplane. There was a report at WP:ANI#Spore (2008 video game) concerning a deletion of yours, but it was quickly stricken since the article was restored.

I just wanted to double-check that everything was okay. Whenever you get a chance, you may want to drop in over there and comment. Thanks a lot. — Satori Son 15:58, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

I added the project to the bot's list. The results will be here, but I will continue to maintain it. The rules are here, so feel free to add to them as you feel appropriate. It is basic now, but I will add to it as time progresses. MrKIA11 (talk) 21:40, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Dragonage logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Dragonage logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:20, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

NAA numbering

It doesn't matter to me, but it makes sense for the newsletter, as you said. But for that same reason, do you know of a way that it can continue numbering through the days? And possibly reverse the numbering, so that it shows what number article the newest is for the month, just for kicks, if for nothing else. MrKIA11 (talk) 00:17, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

VG Portal queries

How do you think the Portal:Video games/Did you know/July is working out on the portal? Do you think it's something that we should continue to do, or modify in someway? Also, do you still want to get that "Did you know?" for new articles going? I may have some free time coming up if you think the portal could make it through a FPOC. (Guyinblack25 talk 21:45, 17 July 2008 (UTC))

Very busy at the moment, I'll get back to you on this. Looks good so far, though. JACOPLANE • 2008-07-20 23:06

WikiProject Games

Hey, this is Blackwatch21 from WikiProject Xbox. I was wondering if you could make me a barnstar for WikiProject Games the same as WikiProject Video games barnstar except with the WikiProject Games logo on it. (which can be found on the project page). Thanks. BW21.--BlackWatch21 04:42, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
