Natalie Portman

Jack, not sure why you keep reverting on the Jerusalem discussion in the Natalie Portman article. The issue had been previously resolved per the discussion page. Rather than continuing the edit war, I would ask that you at a minimum state your reasoning behind the changes on the discussion page so that other editors can be made aware of it.

Thanks, Thedukeofno 04:00, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Jack, you have again reverted. Once more will be in violation of the 3RR and I request you blocked from editing the article. Your current edits are not aligned with what has been agreed upon on the discussion page.

If you feel your edits have basis, please note such on the discussion page or at least in the "edit summary" box.

Thanks, Thedukeofno 04:15, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Kris Lemche

Why did you remove my stub on the Kris Lemche biography? Rejnal 05:13, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

German Americans

Thanks for the help. lol it gets tough being the only one working on the page. Thanks for helping me I appreciate it. If you could help me add captions and organize it even more that would be even better!

JJstroker 06:24, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

I dont know about John Tyler but I am pretty sure that hoover was German. I have read several articles saying he was a german american. As for Nixon I believe he was mainly English, Scottish, or Welsh (Something like that) and was part German. Allegedly that is were the origin of his name comes from. He definitely wasnt full blown German but I do believe he was part.

Also keep in mind most Presidential pages dont post their ancestry. It is very possible about John Tyler being part German, although be sure to check links and post questions on the talk page before deleting a important person. If nobody says anything go ahead. You can also just post part German or make a new section saying "Distant German" or something. Hope that helps.

JJstroker 06:32, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

agreed...

Good idea about that picture... But i may make some changes... Parys 14:53, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

That's the new template for all artist now. And yes i think that picture is better than the cover. Reason... Because the cover is too small and really doesn't give us A good idea of Mandy. I think that picture is one of the best she's taken.

Parys 04:40, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Sire

Do you know how much the contract was that mandy signed with sire? Parys

  • Also seaching, i am guessing atleast 1 million if not more for multiple disk. but i dont want to guess. It will be "Once Moore" all over again.

Parys

Mandy Moore page

Just curious, why do you think it "looks better" with a Selected Filmography section instead of having all of her filmography on there?? Wouldn't it be better to have all the movies she has performed in rather than just a selection? Sarz 03:25, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Ok sorry, my mistake *lol* I misinterpreted it. But yeah it does look better with the table :)
Sarz 09:46, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

The reason I put the information on her interests with her biography is because they naturally go together. We talk about her life, then get to her career. It feels disjointed--to me at least--totalk about her background in one place and to go back to this material at the end. PedanticallySpeaking 16:19, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Edit summaries

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

KILO-LIMA 22:09, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Why did you -CAT on the article Richard Dean Anderson ?? Would you please start leaving reasons in the edit summary, so people can comprehend your reasoning. (Opes 19:54, 31 January 2006 (UTC))

Arrangement of categories

Is there any particular reason why you made an edit to Leif J. Sverdrup where the only change was to move the categories "xxxx births" and "xxxx deaths" to the top? Some edits aren't worth cluttering up the watch lists and recent history. Furthermore, these two categories are rather trivial and less important than the other ones in almost every case. Just because in most numeric codes representing the characters electronically the numbers have lower code numbers than the letters in no reason to "alphabetize" with numbers coming before letters. Gene Nygaard 13:09, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

(reply to response my talk page, posted there too)
Well, you can't say that any more: you've had a complaint now. And since you've only been editing a month, not having had any before is not terribly significant. Gene Nygaard 14:01, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Part of my point, of course, is that it is equally valid to alphabetize numbers after letters. Gene Nygaard 14:04, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

De Niro

Hi, I wondered why you removed De Niro from the German American category as he is as much German as he is Italian or Irish? Arniep 20:39, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

as I said, he is as much German as he is Irish or Italian (one grandparent). Arniep 20:42, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Well I think people don't often mention their German ancestry for obvious reasons, and generally being Irish or Italian American seems to be more "fashionable". Arniep 20:51, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
um, two world wars? Arniep 20:54, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
true, but Germany is generally made out to be the main villain. Arniep 22:19, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Vocal Profile

Can i ask you why you moved the vocal profile? I think it's best where it was. Parys

I think that fine. Ty Parys 18:21, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

3RR block

Hi JackO'Lantern! You have been blocked from editing Wikipedia for 24 hours because you violated the three-revert rule in these edits:

Please try to follow this rule in the future or else you will be blocked again. Thanks! --M@thwiz2020 22:55, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

The guy I was reverting was removing cited information - which is officailly considered vandalism. One can't be blocked for reverting vandalism. This guy's edits are still being reverted, as I write this, on the Jack Abramoff page. I request to be unblocked. JackO'Lantern 23:01, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
I concur. This block is a mistake. William M. Connolley 23:02, 5 February 2006 (UTC).
It looked to me more like an edit war. However, you appear innocent enough so I unblocked you. I didn't know blocked users could edit their talk pages, though - interesting... --M@thwiz2020 23:03, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. Yeah, this was the only page I could edit. It seems fair enough that blocked editors could, so they can at least defend themselves on their own talk page. JackO'Lantern 23:05, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Freddie Prinze, Jr

Oops! sorry, my blooper! Tony the Marine 21:24, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

  • Hi Jack, I just got home and I received your message. I'll also investigate about Freddie Jr's., however in regard to Freddie Prinze Sr., Hispanic Magazine states that Seniors father was a Hungarian Jew and that Freddie Prinze Sr. sometimes referred to himself as a Hungri-Rican. Let's keep in touch. Tony the Marine 01:00, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
    • Hi Jack, this has become a very interesting case. To tell the truth the name Frederick Karl Pruetzel sounds German. I read the links you supplied and I did some research. It is true that I don't ever recall Freddie Prinze Sr. stating that he was Jewish. What I'm leading to is, as you mentioned, maybe most of the websites state that his father was Jewish-Hungarian because it was obtained from an early fansite. However, the most reliable source is Freddie Prinze Jr., who stated on the Howard Stern Show that his grandfather was German (note, he did not mention Jewish, which I believe that Howard being a Jew himself would have touched the subject). Another thing, Freddie Sr., attended the Lutheran Church as a child, which I understand is the primary church in Germany. I agree with you that you should make the proper changes to the Freddie Prinze Sr.' page and post the external links.

In regard to Freddie Prinze Jr.'s mother I always believed that she was a Catholic / Irish-American. I seem to remember reading about that but, I don't recall where. Maybe the fact that Freddie plays an Italian-Puerto Rican in his sitcom may have people confused. The thing is that I haven't been able to find anything that mentions that his mother is an Italian/Irish-American. If there isn't a source which proves that alegation then the "Italian" part should go. Tell me what you think, Tony the Marine 05:04, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

Left Behind

It looks like your new, so the proper way to handle this is not get upset about something so trivial and start capitlizing letters, its simply to put a citation needed template or find it yourself. See my edit as an example. Thanks.Gator (talk) 20:40, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Please do not keep undoing other people's edits without discussing them first. This is considered impolite and unproductive. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia under the three-revert rule, which states that nobody may revert an article to a previous version more than three times in 24 hours. (Note: this also means editing the page to reinsert an old edit. If the effect of your actions is to revert back, it qualifies as a revert.) Thank you. RexNL 20:55, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Barnstar

This Tireless Contributor Barnstar is presented to User:JackO'Lantern for his continous work in Wikipedia. Presented by Tony the Marine 22:57, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

I present you Jack, with this barnstar for your dedication and continous work in Wiki. I see that you have done quite alot of research into the Jewish-Puerto Ricans. I think it's great. I've reorganized some of the cats., because I noticed that alot of people are bumping off previous posted cats. Keep up the good work and if I can colaborate with you in any subject, just let me know. Tony the Marine 22:57, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Ethnicity-by-occupation subcategories

Please think about this discussion on this issue, which while it isn't official policy, I do believe it represents consensus reached through discussion and experience. Also, while I personally would prefer far fewer such categories, the principle that page expresses makes sense to me in establishing a dividing line. Cheers, Postdlf 01:43, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Please note, first, that full dates have to be linked, so that they show up in browsers according to readers' preferences. Secondly, the "reliability" of interviews over IMDb isn't the point, even if your claim were true; the IMDb site is more NPoV than the interviews and other journalistic stuff. It's also usual to put that sort of link first. In fact, I nearly cut a couple of the interview links ("Wikipedia is not a link farm" — see Wikipedia:External links, but decided to leave it for the moment. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:38, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Well, I'll leave it for now, but I don't really see that interviews with subjects of articles are more reliable than a site whose main vice, you seem to be saying, is that it repeats what people say about themselves (as in interviews...). IMDb offers filmographies, etc, which is why it's a more useful resource. But let it pass; it's not important enought to fight over.--Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:51, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Haley Joel Osment and Emily Osment

The Osments are Catholic; I read about it when Haley was nominated for a Supporting Actor Academy Award (he lost to Michael Caine) and the magazine detailed the family as an ethnic Catholic family who went to Mass the same afternoon as the Oscar telecast. Trust me, they're RCs. Yours, R. Sieger email:rms125a@hotmail.com

P.S. I still am positive I am right about Sean Faris, but I bow to your pointing out the need for proof besides the school he attended. I know a lot of non-Catholics go to RC schools, but I still think I am right. ANYWAY....

OSMENTS CONTINUED

Haley Joel Osment

Anon user, do you really have a source that he is Catholic? We need something better than "I read somewhere" - you have to at least name the where. Plus, according to your page, you are a multiple-offending vandal. JackO'Lantern 04:28, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

If you think I am a multiple offending vandal, then don't bother contacting me. The requirements that you are demanding for the Osments, Sean Faris, and Liam Aiken are not ones you made regarding Jodi Lyn O'Leefe, Anita Colby, Kevin Federline, Caroline Kepcher (whose maiden name is unknown), Paula Raymond, Julia Barr, Joyce Randolph, et al. You have to have an equal standard for all. THE OSMENTS STAY!!

How am I anonymous when I gave you my name and email address?? (Robert Sieger email:rms125a@hotmail.com)

ASSHOLE!! 65.88.88.45 20:40, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Please refrain from personal attacks and register a user account. If you think there are inadequate sources for the people you mentioned, then please remove them as well. The Osments can stay if you provide a source. JackO'Lantern 21:21, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

I cannot register a user account due to an ongoing dispute with "Jtdirl". Of the names above, I added all of them and you accepted them w/o question. You also accepted anyone with an Italian or Irish surname, even though that does not guarantee they are RC. Liam Aiken is returning and thew Osments are staying. If you don't like it--too bad. I created this list almost from scratch. Why don't you make a list of Canadian Catholic actors--eh??

Stay out of my work product.

I am not going to argue with you about it--they stay and if it becomes a revert war, so be it, eh.

  • Since when did you become owner of all that's Wikipedia, Robert? Please try to remain civil and once again, try to not post POV to articles. Y'know - the usual stuff. - Ali-oops 23:38, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Continuation

You can take all you have written to me and stick it. I practically created the list and I know what I am doing. Stay out of my work product.

Why don't you create a Canadian Catholic actors List?? Too depressing?? Try: Dan Aykroyd Dave Foley (Boys in the Band) Kevin McDonald (Boys in the Band) etc., etc. etc.

Kilmer

There are parts of The Appalachian Mountians where race matters get really weird (see: Melungeon).

That combind with the fact that the Cherokee aren't really interested in how much blood so long as you retain the culture makes who is and who isn't Cherokee even harder to figure out even for the Cherokee.

I'm guessing Kilmer is part of that stock

132.241.245.49 01:06, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

"Well, I think we should use a really simple standard for putting people in categories based on ethnicity. If they are "fully" of that group, list. If they have a parent of that group, yes. If they have any less (usually just a grandparent) we should put them in if they've expressed specific identification with that group. It's different for lists, because you can explain anything. I've noticed certain editors putting in people to "Italian-Americans" who barely have an Italian grandparent, and other editors taking people out of "Jewish Americans" because they father is Jewish but their mother isn't! There are so many different "laws" for each group (heck, Italian-American gangsters don't consider someone Italian unless they're 100%) that I think using the rational I just explained, and using it for all groups, is probably best (and this would eliminate the problem of putting Kilmer under the eight or so different categories). Btw, it's pretty clear that it is just a great-grandmother - sometimes it's stretched out to "grandmother", but when Kilmer is asked specifically about it, he mentions "great-grandmother", like in the Actors Studio interview. I'm surprised that Lipton didn't ask Kilmer as to how the Mongolian and Sephardic Jewish "grew on his family tree", those are definitely more exotic. JackO'Lantern 01:12, 19 February 2006 (UTC)"

Well I know the last President of the Cherokee Nation before the Trail of Tears was an 1/8 blood. However I hesitate to call someone who is less than a quarter blood a member of an ethnicity.

I think we are in agreement that Val doesn't meet Wikipedia's standerds of being an Indian I'm just saying that it sounds like he's not sure how much Native blood is in him.

He's definetly proud of it though.

Sephardic Jews and Val

I've heard a large # of Jews settled in New Mexico when it was still dominated by Spain.

maybe they were Val's Sephardic ancesters.

132.241.245.49 01:24, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about the revert; some of your edits would nullify WP:FA status (mostly the wikidates). I will reincorporate some of them in the meantime; however, Mean Girls is her critical breakout as is referenced. Also, you've reverted to an older version of the wikitable. Sorry once again. RadioKirk talk to me 01:28, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Okay, I want to explain the changes I didn't keep, rather than leave you wondering:
  1. "As an adult, Lohan is beginning to take on more adult-oriented projects,..." She already began, that should be past tense; "adult-oriented" is ambiguous;
  2. "She persisted, and eventually performed in more than 100 print ads..." I kept "did" because a still ad may be a "performance", but one is not "performing" (moving);
  3. "... their long-divorced parents, (played by..." Parentheses suggest "this is who did that", making "played by" repetitive;
  4. Wikilinking Janet Maslin and Kenneth Turan. Red links;
  5. "... although it earned more in its international release than in the United States." A metter of personal preference, but the prose as it existed was fine;
  6. "... a lower-budget film directed by..." The implied question in that statement is "lower than what?" "Independent film" does not violate WP:NPOV while "lower-budget" walks the line;
  7. According to the Manual of Style, the correct way to wikilink dates is month day (or day month) year;
  8. "... in early 2004; their breakup in November of that year..." Prose; matter of preference;
May I suggest that you read Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates/Lindsay_Lohan to get some insight into the process that led to WP:FA status? Meantime, let's find a compromise for "adult-oriented" which, to many people, means "porn".
Again, write me with any comments :) RadioKirk talk to me 02:31, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

I've got it!

One of the claims I've heard about ethnic Western Europeans who have Asian traits is that some of their ancestors must have "met" with Ghengis Khan and his Mongolian Horde.

I'll bet that's what Val is refering to.

In re Pitchka

Pitcha I am just letting you know that your contributions to the page "List of Catholic American actors" were reversed by "Jack O'Lantern" because he was under the mistaken impression that "Pitcha" was one of my sockpuppets (rv uncited additions by Robert Sieger puppet "Pitcha").

Obviously, this is not the case, and you should let him know.

Yours,

R. Sieger Rms125a@hotmail.com

No, you shouldn't let me know, because regardless of the contributor, the edits are disputed and were unsourced. JackO'Lantern 20:56, 20 February 2006 (UTC) Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Dwain"

Yes, he should because you accused me of using the name "Pitcha" [sic], when I did no such thing, and Pitchka is a Wikipedian in his own right, with nothing to do with me. He had the right to know of your accusation which mentioned him by name (username). Got it?? 70.19.56.230 23:46, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

You're not supposed to link month and year links unless there is a very good reason to do so; see Wikipedia:Only make links that are relevant to the context. Also, please do not insert piped links (such as 1999). Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 21:41, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

If you log in with a registered username, you shouldn't be affected by the block to 216.221.81.98. As far as I understand, the system blocks usernames, not IPs. That is, it's User:216.221.81.98 who's being blocked, not users of the network with IP = 216.221.81.98. Some anonymous users produce so much vandalism that we cannot simply let them go on without blocks. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 22:20, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

I believe this is incorrect, AutoBlocks are instituted against users having usernames on the same IP adddress. That being said, the IP in question was just blocked for 15 minutes in response to vandalism. I made sure the blocking admin knew it was shared which is why it was only for 15 minutes, hope this doesn't cause an inconvinence for you. --lightdarkness (talk) 05:33, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Emma Roberts

I reverted some of the changes you made to the Emma Roberts article, because they violated Wiki's guidelines (for example, Wikipedia is not a mere collection of external links, and Years in films should not be piped), f---ed up the References, or where simply false (for example, Spymate was released in Canada in 2003[1]). --Fritz S. (Talk) 21:06, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Again, your list of Interviews violates Wikipedia is not a mere collection of external links (and they aren't first hand sources, I listed all the sources I used under References), and your external links within the article fuck up the list of references. Many other Filmographies on FAs lists are done the way I did it, and there is no reason to having a selected filmography if the full one is only slighty longer (and seperate articles for filmographies, such as Humphrey Bogart filmography also go oldest first). I also kept the mentioning of Julia in the lead, because that is what's mentioned about her all the time and how most people know her. The lead is supposed to summarize the article, so there shouldn't be anything wrong with having her birth date in the full article as well. "a lot of" is bad style, your source for the Spymate release doesn't mention when it was released. Also, your change to "series creator Sue Rose was not convinced of her until Roberts auditioned" makes it seem like it was Roberts first audition for the part. --Fritz S. (Talk) 23:57, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
I was actually modeling the Filmography style after FAs: Sharon Tate, Uma Thurman, KaDee Strickland and subarticles of FAs (Henry Fonda filmography) and as the article (and the discography) are listed in chronological order, I find it only natural to have the filmography that way, too. The reverse order always looks like it has just been copy-and-pasted from IMDb. --Fritz S. (Talk) 08:57, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

Haley Joel Osment/Emily Osment redux

I found a citation for Osment to be categorized as Roman Catholic. I knew I was right.

(see filmforce.ign.com/articles/034/034161p1.html - 46k - Cached - Similar pages) Rms125a@hotmail.com 23:57, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

That is not a satisfactory source on two counts. One, websites are not good sources for pigeonholing people as to their ethnicity. Anyone can write anything on a website. Newspapers are much more satisfactory sources, for the obvious reason that they fear being sued and consequently are careful about what they claim. If Osment is a Catholic, it should be easy to find a newspaper or equivalent source saying so. Two, even if your source was satisfactory, it does not say he is a Catholic. It says he was "raised Catholic". Catholicism is a sect of Christianity, not an ethnicity or the black spot. You're not indelibly marked with it in your youth. Find a source that says he is a Catholic or do not put the category on his page. Grace Note 01:12, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

The fact is you don't know where IGN "picked it up" from. They could have "picked it up" from someone at their local bar. That's precisely my point. If they got it from AP (a reputable source), then Rms needs to find the AP source and give that. This is Rms's idea of a good source. It's a wiki. I can sign up and make Osment a Buddhist. That's precisely why we're careful about sources. So that we don't just repeat rumours and bullshit and then get scraped and find that the whole world thinks something about a person because we got it from someone's website. Grace Note 02:59, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism

I know you have been labelling me a "vandal" behind by back to other Wikipedians whom I do not even know, and have in all likelihood never even crossed paths. I knows about one Australia (Hurro5) that you did this with.

I am going to lodge a complaint with the Mediators and at WikiMedia.

Btw, I notice that Eve Arden is gone from the list; don't imagine "Grace Note" is your saviour. I know more about this subject that you and he (she?) combined.

Rms125a@hotmail.com 23:41, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

I have explained to you carefully why the source is no good. I thought we had an agreement on that. Please do not help Rms to push his POV about who is or is not Catholic. Stand up for the right thing. Grace Note 07:09, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Lots of places have interviews with actors and are not reliable. In any case, the point is that even that dodgy source does not say that he is Catholic. It is not up to Rms to decide that someone is Catholic because they were "raised Catholic". We do not make judgments. We restate what others state. Grace Note 07:14, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

No, Jack, I'm not being too picky. If Osment is a Catholic, it will not be difficult at all to find a source that says "Osment is Catholic". We are not desperate to include borderline cases. We don't pick and choose according to what we think makes someone a Catholic. He is either reported to be one or he isn't. And he isn't. Grace Note 07:16, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Jack. With a clear standard like this, you should find the list really easy to police. Grace Note 03:55, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

If Rms edits helpfully, no one will be too bothered. But if you find he's evading the block to edit destructively, particularly if he's reverting other editors, you should report it on WP:AN/I. But there's no need to make an issue of it if he's not actually bothering anybody. Grace Note 03:58, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Are you sure Ryan Phillippe attended New Castle Baptist Academy?? I remember reading (from his own mouth) that he attended a Catholic school.

Pls. verify.

Thanks!! Rms125a@hotmail.com

Fair enough, but I have not looked at the List in quite a while, due to my dispute with Grace Note, except for once, when the "C" section looked horribly out of whack with all the other ones.

I don't know if I will ever return to it.

Yes, I think I do know more than you re this subject, but my sources were not from the 'Net, and as I said previously, I didn;t keep a record of the magazine or TV program where I learned it, the date, volume #, ISBN#, page #, etc.

I do not understand what you mean "outside the block", I am not as computer literate as you. I though Grace Note was most likley a woman, but you may be right.

And why do you have to go along with everything he/she says. What is his/her power?? Can he/she override consensus and dictate terms?? I don't get it, Grace Note is not an administrator or sysops. I reported him/her to a Mediator regarding his/her lie that the Osments were unsourced, you know full well Haley Joel (and by extension, his sister) had 2 sources, with at least one of which even you had no problem, so why do you suck up to him/her?? And please tell him/her that I said that there is no newspaper that has ever bothered to report on this child actor's religion, as he/she seems to think is all I need search for.

Osments

please see discussion RMS, there are plenty of people there who were "raised Catholic" - that is correct and by that definition unless they were excommunicated or switched to another religion, they qualify for inclusion on this list. Otherwise, remove Ethel Waters, Stefanie Powers, Pia Zadora, Kevin Federline (!!!), Anne Bancroft, Robert DeNiro, Bernadette Peters, Denis Leary (who has been described on certain Catholic sites on the Net as "anti-Catholic"), etc. Being devout is not required for inclusion on the list--is it??

Rms125a@hotmail.com

Also I do not accept the discussion b/c there is no validity to your apparent supervisor's assertion that being "raised Catholic" is insufficient for inclusion on the list. Rms125a@hotmail.com

Image Tagging Image:Duhamel1.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Duhamel1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL-self to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Hi, thanks for your work. In your edit summary you asked if there are any guidelines for headings. There certainly are- actually, they're called Style Guides. Q about Rms125a@hotmail.com

I've just spent a while reverting edits from several anon IPs that seem to trace to Rms125a@hotmail.com. I know very little about this user, but most of these anon edits concern Catholics and have excessive bolding and spacing. Is this user supposed to be banned? Crumbsucker 06:38, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Bobby Edner

I was wondering, how do you know Bobby Edner and his sister are jewish? I understand it's on the TV.Com website, however, people edit the information all the time so it's hardly factual. I haven't encountered anything in the media, officially from them, that they're in fact jewish. TripleH1976 11:57, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

I don't know that they're Jewish. I've never added anything about them being Jewish. I did work on both of their pages, but the most I've done is move info around. I'm sure that TV tome is why someone added that in the first place, but I don't think it's a reliable source. So I will change them - thanks for noticing. JackO'Lantern 07:59, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
All right that's cool. I don't know who added the jewish information either, but they should have backed it up with good evidence. I mean, for all we know they can be catholics or mormons. They don't seem to disclose that in any of their interviews. TripleH1976 12:07, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
They have interviews? I'm surprised that Ashley Edner, a relatively obscure actress, did interviews. These newspaper people will interview anybody nowadays. :) I think it's likely that they're Jewish based on their surname and nothing else, but my opinion of course has nothing to do with it. JackO'Lantern 08:09, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
  1. The normal Wikipedia ordering is date-based cats first (including the silly "living persons" one), then others — in alphabetical order unless there's some more natural division. Here, the acting ones naturally go together, then the others, I'd have thought. (Think of a library; the books are in alphabetical order within categories, but it would be a pain if they were just in one big alphabetical ordering.
  2. I admit that the U.S. (and Wikipedia) obsession with peculiar tags like "Irish-American", "Polish-American", etc., is somewhat beyond me — but she was born English, and naturalised American. We don't use such designations (I'm half-Irish, for example, but it would be very odd for me to call myself "Irish-British"; I was born here, brought up here, and my nationality is unconnected to Ireland — though in fact I'm entitled to an Irish passport). The implication to non-Americans, at least, is that she's of Irish origin, not merely that one of her parents is. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 12:38, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Recent edit

Hi JackO'Lantern. Regarding a recent edit you made here, that' not me, and it not a user page. It is a draft article I am working on in my user space. Your point about the categories is valid though. I hadn't thought about the article showing up if people are browsing those categories. I'll comment them out while I'm working on the article. Best, Johntex\talk 16:44, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

No problem at all - I appreciate your clean up efforts. Also, coming here has led me to an interesting discussion right now with Mel Etitis about the ordering of categories on articles. I saw his post to you (above) that date-based categories go first. This seems to be a personal observation by Mel about what he usually observes. It doesn't seem to be in any policy, or even in a guideline. Since we have hundreds of guidelines, you'd think that if this is so regularly a practice that it would be written into a guideline. I haven't paid enough attention to category ordering to have an opinion on whether the ordering is commonly done a certain way or not. What has your experience been? Johntex\talk 18:19, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
I agree with you. Alphabetical seems the most sensible, and the easiest to follow and implement. As to Mischa Barton - I'm not familair with her, but I gather from the article that she was born in the UK to an English father and Irish mother and moved the US when she was four. You mentioned "naturalized US citizen", but I don't see that in the article. Is she a US citizen? If she is active in the Irish-American community, or plays up the Irish part of her heritage, then I'd say "yes", otherwise I'd say "no". 50% Irish heritage is enough to make her Irish-American in the conversational sense of the word, but not enough to bother tagging her with the category, IMO. Johntex\talk 18:33, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
I have registered my support for alphabetical organization here: Wikipedia_talk:Categorization_of_people#Order_of_the_categories. Johntex\talk 18:45, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

If You read the album cover tag: ...solely to illustrate the album or single in question. Thats pretty clear. feydey 06:48, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

That looks like a new wording, still Lindsay Lohan has 6 sentences in the article about the album and it is the only cover and it is positioned in the music section. I think even that cover is borderline remove now. My 5 cents. feydey 07:04, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

  • IMdb even backs up almost all the sites I've mentioned: (and they approve her as valid yet you all do not. I wasn't even the one to submit her there. She is there because she should be.)

In the data I've provided, she was not an extra, I must get that clear to you. An extra is someone with no lines or no character or no character name. She has all of that in her roles, so that part of this argument can be closed.

Jared Padalecki

Why have you removed Jared Padalecki from the Polish-Americans list????? Almost every website that has his bio states that he is of Polish ancestry, yet you have taken it upon yourself to remove him. His surname is totally Polish too. Please explain and refrain from editing the list. --Nanusia 22:07, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

I appreciate your reply however, there are several names on that list and on the lists of other ethnic Americans that are not linked to "in-depth profiles" or "interviews" so I don't see your justification for removing Jared's name. He is mentioned as having Polish ancestry in several websites, and that hasn't changed. As I said he is does have a Polish surname like his father, and there are many Polish Americans in Texas. I believe his name should be placed back on the list. I really don't think you need to put it upon yourself to be the Polish-American People Police. --Nanusia 22:33, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Ok, Jack (Polish-American People Police) - I am not going to debate this because I don't have the "vital" proof that you need and it isn't worth it however, you have left Belinda Carlisle on the Music section of Polish Americans, and as far as I know she is not Polish. Is her mother Polish? Her stepfather has a Polish last name but that's all I have found. --Nanusia 22:47, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, for the quick correction. Also, I have sourced and added several of additions on the Polish Americans list in the past few days, and I plan do create profiles for those that are lacking, in the near future. If you have questions about why some of the names were placed please contact me and I will be happy to discuss with you. Thanks. --Nanusia 23:00, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Just wanted to discuss the issue of her nationality and citizenship. She is a US citizen by birth, which is not disputed, but she is also culturally English, which is is self-prescribed and does not carry a passport. I have not found any material stating that she has become a naturalised British Citizen (no such thing as a UK citizen), but one can be a US Citizen and English at the same time, which is the point of stating that she is a 'American-born English actress'. Removal of Hyphenated-American categories

Hi sorry about moving your comment, I was in a bit of a trance and thought you meant you to post on Talk:Uma Thurman but it was actually because of an edit on Milla Jovovich. I'm pretty sure someone came round all the articles saying now Wiki policy says it has to go newest to oldest a few months back. Arniep 02:17, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm not really too bothered which way round it goes but on IMDb it goes newest to oldest. BTW your imdb misinformation ancedote pretty much sums up why we have to take everything from there with a pinch of salt. Arniep 02:27, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Adrienne Barbeau

I'm not familiar with how to work out differences, but I think my changes are thoughtful and factual.

To say see is renowned for her {worthy adjective here} breasts is no distortion. To say that 51 is an astonishing age to have twins is also certain. Yes, she sang to troops (as part of the San Jose Light Opera) is true, but is it noteworthy? "Stag Movie" was a play. That there was such a thing as a nudie musical is worth noting acurately.

Wow you're pretty demanding. What sort of reference would you like to establish that 51 is an astonishing age for childbirth. May I define as astonishing as 99.9 percentile? Does my reference need to be a peer-reviewed journal?
As to her mammaries, perhaps the best reference is esteemed, published film critic Joe Bob Briggs' review of The Fog "Two enormous talents on that woman."
http://www.joebobbriggs.com/mvtranscripts/fog.html

The late Gene Siskel also remarked about Ms. Barbeau's physical talents. You can find a link to his remarks here: http://www.angelfire.com/ab6/barbeau/tableofcontents.html Does Wikisaurus count? Only 7 women in Wikisaurus are so renowned for their breasts that they have inspired eponymous slang terms. Ms. Barbeau is one. The question isn't what source; the question is what descriptive adjective? Volumnious? prodigious? effusive? Please don't say large.

Ethnicity cats

Hi, I restored the Finnish American cat on Matt Damon as it was his grandfather who was Finnish so a close connection really. I think it would be easier to just rename these cats to xxx of yyy descent so then they can be clearly backed up by sources without having to require them being referred to as xxx American (which would place a bias on ethnicities that are seen more fashionable to identify with, Irish, Italian, Jewish etc.) Arniep 23:01, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

As I said before it is the whole problem of whether an xxx American is someone who identifies with a certain ethnicity or whether it is someone who has xxx ancestry. A rule decided on to avoid having multiple xxx American cats was just to allow a grandparent but as I said above that brings into conflict the definition of the term as Tyrone Power definitely identified as Irish American but only his great grandfather was actually born in Ireland (people usually identify with whatever ethnicity their surname was at birth, excepting Jewish Americans) Maybe we could restrict the categories to people who identify as xxx and make the lists just people of xxx descent with proper citations. Arniep 18:28, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Yes obviously the surname thing doesn't apply to African Americans, but it does generally apply, i.e. people with Irish names usually identify as Irish American, people with Italian names as Italian American. The xxx American categories were basically formulated as descent categories, rather than self identification (which is often very hard to show). It was originally my intention to rename them Americans of xxx descent. Arniep 18:36, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Well I don't think the lists would be unmanageable if we had a limit i.e. great grandparent. As I said before the problem with limiting it to people who self identify would mean that ethnicities that are seen as more fashionable to identify with are overrepresented. Arniep 18:43, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Hi I'm not too interested in who identifies as what as I said, to avoid that problem the cats and lists were based on descent not self identification. Arniep 18:46, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
I don't think it is so silly to say people often identify with their surname origin (if they identify as anything), Tyrone Power, Robert De Niro, Madonna all fit that. Arniep 18:47, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure what difference it makes whether they were superstars. Madonna has definitely said she identifies as Italian American and yes there are plenty of other examples Al Pacino, Danny DeVito, James Gandolfini. Anyway as I said self identification is not really an issue as the lists and cats are based on descent. Arniep 18:58, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
I'm not really sure what you're asking me? I don't know what they identify as if that's what you're asking??? Arniep 19:02, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
I know I thought you are saying we should!??? Arniep 19:06, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure that would really be any better than it is atm i.e. limiting it to 4 for each grandparent, mixing parentage and self identification on who knows how distant ancestry. Arniep 19:13, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
There was a system by grandparents which was maintained by a user now blocked. Obviously it has the problem that you describe in that people may identify with the originator of their surname who immigrated further back than two generations. But really I don't think it makes sense to allow self identification to unlimited generations and mix it with a fixed parentage cat. Arniep 19:22, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
It's not really rare at all, a large proportion of people who identify as anything identify with something further than parents (Robert De Niro for example or Marlon Brando). Arniep 19:30, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Brando identified as Irish, even though it was only his maternal grandmother's father who was actually born in Ireland. It was important to him though as he named his children for his Irish ancestors. It also shows the problem of relying on what celebs say as Brando identified as French as well, but his name was actually German in origin not French (he probably felt more comfortable with French as it was his wife's language and German isn't so fashionable to identify with). Arniep
Well the whole thing is really problematic as you can see. In a way the max 4 ethnicity cats was a good rule which maybe the best kind of compromise we can get to. Arniep 19:50, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
I didn't necessarily mean grandparents I just meant restrict the amount of ethnicity cats a person can be in to 4. As far as the lists go it is hard to know what would be the correct "rule" as no doubt there are famous people with an Irish name who identify as Irish American but if a genealogical investigation is done it would go back to their great great great grandparent, but who are we to say they are not Irish American? Hello

Hello JackO'Lantern, I'm James Duggan. I've noticed we share the same IP address, which means we're both in Burlington. I also noticed on your user page that you support the Conservative Party. Are you a member of the party as well? Because I am. I will be at the grand opening of Mike Wallace's constituency office Saturday (tomorrow). Are you going to be there as well? It would be nice to meet you in person. --JFred 23:55, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Ashley Judd image replacement

Please note that Wikipedia policy, in WP:FAIR, makes it clear you can not use a fairuse image, when a public domain , or free license one, is readily available. In this case, there are at least two acceptable public domain pics of Judd, and no reason to use a fairuse image. Unfortunately, we can't pick images based on which looks nicer. So, I have removed Image:Crimesjudd.jpg. --Rob 08:45, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Cheapersmith.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. feydey 18:53, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

You Beat Me Too It

I was removing that vandalism and was about to save when you finished right before me. Good response time. How often do you check up on Samuel Jackson's page? --Nehrams2020 19:17, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

I noticed you changed Kristen Stewart's birthplace from Colorado to Los Angeles. Just wondering, where did you find that info? Thanks. Buchanan-Hermit™..SCREAM!!!.... 19:22, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Your image uploads

Could You please add sources for the image uploads Image:Mwein.jpg etc. feydey 20:44, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Could You please add sources for the screenshots, since there is no "what links here" in the images that have no articles using them, so it is quite difficult to know who is in the image. Please write in the Summary a short description from where the image is, who are/is there, what it depicts etc. so others can use the image. feydey 21:46, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
There seems to be something wrong (incomplete image, gray at the bottom) with Image:Bcorbet.jpg, could you look at the situation. feydey 22:21, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Cdsprouse.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: TemplateName.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator.
