User talk:J Bar
Welcome to the talk page of J Bar.
Commons
[edit]Hi Jim - thanks again for all the photos. I have a suggestion that you might like to take up. With the large amount of photos you are uploading, you might at this stage want to sign up to Wikimedia Commons and upload your photos there. This enables your photos to be used in any Wikimedia project and not just Wikipedia - so people from other language projects, Wikitravel, etc. can all use the photos. You need to go here and sign up (as "J Bar") and then you click on "Upload file" on the left and upload your files as per normal. You can use categories like [[Category:Sydney]] for Sydney-related photos and [[Category:Train stations in Sydney]] for railway station pics. This will save those users who want to use them on other projects a lot of time having to download your photos and then reupload them in other projects. I have done all your photos on railway stations up until today, so you won't need to put them up. (JROBBO 06:23, 5 September 2006 (UTC))
Collecting photos
[edit]Hi J Bar, I hope the semi-retirement is more semi than it is retirement. I appreciate the huge collection of photos you've contributed! I've just started a new list: w:List of Anglican churches in the Diocese of Sydney. I thought you might be interested because it shows which ones we are missing photos for. Also are you interested in coming to this tomorrow night: w:Wikipedia:Meetup/Sydney? I'm keen to meet you if you are. --99of9 (talk) 00:47, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Colin from Accounts moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Colin from Accounts, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. BOVINEBOY2008 13:18, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

Hello, J Bar!

[edit]Your edit to Barrumbi Kids has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information. I have also removed and rewritten the copy-pasted text in Barons (TV series). Request reason:
I understand the reason for being blocked. I have used information that is used in a press release which then appears in multiple articles on the subject. I have then used those articles as sources which makes it look like I have copied the articles. Apologies for that. I will ensure that this does not happen again in future by keeping the information generic or completely rewriting any information obtained in a press releases. J Bar (talk) 18:11, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
Decline reason:
Press releases should generally not be used as a source on Wikipedia, as Wikipedia primarily summarizes what independent reliable sources say. As copyright violations potentially put Wikipedia in legal jeopardy, we must be convinced that you understand the issues here. Please explain in your own words what copyright is, what Wikipedia's license is, and when and how copyrighted content may be used on Wikipedia. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 19:24, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
- I understand that copyright is a legal right which protects original work from being copied. I understand that Wikipedia's licence protects all creators' work. I understand that any content added should be from a neutral point of view with references and not using original information. I understand that copyrighted content can only be used on wikipedia if the owner has granted permission to use it.

Your descriptions of Wikipedia's copyright policy thus far are insufficient to evaluate whether you really understand it. - For any reviewing admin: the copyvio I've found in their CCI so far, after checking about a hundred sets of edits, is widespread and indiscriminate. The actual situation differs from their characterization of it in the prior unblock request above. Sure, there's a lot of copying from TV show PR, that's unfortunately true, but also from archival material from fan websites, from books about geographic locations around Sydney, even from obituaries from major newspapers and family history websites, over a time range from over a dozen years ago to as recently as late September. I also note that this latest unblock request was not actually posted by the blocked user. Indignant Flamingo (talk) 03:36, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- Well, Indignant Flamingo (talk), I really don't know what else I can say or do. I have obviously not understood the copyright rules with my edits. I never intentionally copied information from sources I used. I always attempted to put the information in my own words. My intention has always been to improve articles and provide original photos. I can only sincerely apologise for the error of my ways and request to be given a chance to rectify the articles I have edited in the past and promise that I will not use the source material, as I have done in the past. Speedy deletion nomination of Fancy Boy
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Fancy Boy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.decembermedia.com.au/comedyonline. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. echidnaLives - talk - edits 02:07, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about 100% Footy
[edit]Hello J Bar, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, 100% Footy, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/100% Footy.
Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Justiyaya}}
. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~
. Thanks!
