Onelifefreak2007

Can you please compare Razzinator (talk · contribs) with Razzfan (talk · contribs), for technical CU correlation, as well as the other socks of Onelifefreak2007 at the archived case page? In other words, not simply to check Razzfan (talk · contribs) against the one sockmaster, but also against the other socks of the sockmaster? Thank you for your time, -- Cirt (talk) 15:40, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Update - more evidence connecting Razzinator to Razzfan

Compare [1] with [2]. Thank you for your time, -- Cirt (talk) 15:50, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Based on the only accounts that were actually CU'ed on the SPI archive, Razzfan is Red X Unrelated. J.delanoygabsadds 16:08, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Possibly using open proxies and such? -- Cirt (talk) 16:22, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Nothing is sure, but I am virtually positive that they are not open proxies, and never were. J.delanoygabsadds 17:00, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Nod, perhaps some other form of obfuscation then. Thanks. -- Cirt (talk) 17:03, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Hoax user pages - checkuser?

Some good detective work by Uncle Milty (talk · contribs) has unearthed a nest of hoax user pages, purporting to be bios of actors or singers, with many details copied from real articles and names altered. The common feature he noticed was that they used images uploaded by JaasoneDeruulo (talk · contribs). As I worked through deleting the first dozen, I noticed that all these fake people had the same birthday, 21 August, in years from 1978 to 1988. Searching for that date, Uncle Milty has uncovered another dozen likely hoax user pages. Full list at User:Uncle Milty/Hoax page links.

Hoax user pages are a problem, because they don't get the usual New Page Patrol scrutiny. I have indef-blocked JaasoneDeruulo, but that doesn't help much, because he sets up a new account for each new hoax. I have not bothered to block all these fake users, who have never done anything but set up their user pages.

My question is: I didn't think an SPI was necessary, the quacking is too loud, but I would like to run a checkuser on him and these fake users, to see if there is an underlying IP we can block, to stop this nuisance continuing. Should I raise an SPI in order to ask for that? Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:19, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

I noticed there's also User:CagethheEnvyphant, which I found when looking at File:CagethheEnvyphant.jpg. I believe it's part of the farm. --Bsadowski1 21:31, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
I'll take a look at it. J.delanoygabsadds 17:31, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Update: see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Amandabilliot/Archive. I've looked at a couple of those, and they also have 21 August birthdays - it's the same hoaxer. JohnCD (talk) 19:22, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Okay, you have stumbled on quite a farm:

 Confirmed JaasoneDeruulo (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki) =

 Stale, but almost certainly related.

I used the mass blocker to block and tag most of these accounts. You may want to add this list to the SPI page... J.delanoygabsadds 20:48, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

I'll do that. I'm glad you had a mass blocker - I was worried to see you doing it, thinking I should have. Any hope of identifying an underlying IP we could block, to prevent the nuisance recurring? JohnCD (talk) 20:57, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Wow, I felt that hammer fall all the way from here. Thanks for all your efforts, guys. --| Uncle Milty | talk | 21:33, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
He's editing from quite a few ranges, and I don't think blocking him is probably practical. J.delanoygabsadds 21:56, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Pity. We'll just have to keep an eye open for any more. If it continues, maybe a script could look for accounts with a large user page and no other edits. Thanks, anyway. JohnCD (talk) 09:12, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Edits for Inception to add to its Wikipedia Page

It has been confirmed that Inception (2010 Film), has a set European DVD/Blu-Ray release date of December 6th, will include a regular a limited edition of the DVD, with the limited edition being in a suitcase with the top and a read-me of the Dream Machine that is included in the movie.

Well, I'm not sure why you're telling me this... if you don't know how to cite, you can look at Wikipedia:Citation_templates for a list of templates you can use, or I could show you, or if you really want, I could add the citations for you. But in any case, my point is, you don't need to ask someone before you add to a page. You can just do it, as long as you are neutral, and cite your sources. That's what the whole idea of Wikipedia is about! J.delanoygabsadds 17:30, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Would you do a Rangeblock please?

I need a Rangeblock on my entire school as many of the students there have decided to waste their lunches vandalizing after one of them saw me using Igloo. :) I've already contacted the person in charge of computers at my school and he said he couldn't do anything about it. That leaves me with the only available option being to come here and ask for a Rangeblock. The name of the school is Walter Reed Middle School (yeah, I'm a minor) with the address being "4525 Irvine Ave., North Hollywood, CA 91602, (818) 487-7600" I gave the phone number in case you wanted to contact them. Thanks and sorry for bothering you. Mr. R00t Talk 21:27, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

If they've been blocked before (4+ times) feel free to open a Abuse report Pilif12p :  Yo  21:29, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Don't think that an Abuse Response would help since I already contacted the webmaster, told him that I was with Wikipedia and that he should attempt to do something which resulted in him telling me that he couldn't do anything about it. Mr. R00t Talk 22:19, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi

Just dropping by to say hi. I can recall nominating you for adminship 2.5 years ago, which was unsuccessful during that attempt. I see that not only your RfA passed for the second time months later, you are more than an administrator. I like your CheckUser humor that you got on the note you posted on your talk page edit screen. I wish that YouTube had checkuser like Wikipedia, as I have been dealing with endless sock farms on YouTube for a long period of time. NHRHS2010 |  Talk to me  20:14, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Heh, yeah. I get people posting nonsense on my account there too. Mildly annoying, but far easier to deal with in some ways, not least of which I can delete whatever I want for any reason, or no reason... *strokes fluffy white cat* J.delanoygabsadds 20:42, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

You can definitely create it from scratch if you want. The reason why I deleted the previous one was because it was completely unsourced, so I don't know if the creator was attempting to push a forgery. J.delanoygabsadds 15:00, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
That was not the rationale you gave, and I'm not asking for permission; I have info from RS I want to add. If the previous information is unverifiable, I will occlude it; it may be a lead or not. Please restore the page, cygnis insignis 15:25, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for that. The information you provided closely accords with the facts I have at hand, it does not appear to be a forgery and the content is notable. You can go ahead and restore the article. I can give you a step-by-step explanation on how to do that, if you haven't done it before. cygnis insignis 20:02, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
No, I know how to do it. Thanks for the offer, though. J.delanoygabsadds 20:50, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Hey J. Based on this, would you please use your crystal ball to determine if User:120.28.251.121 falls within the IP range for either User:Jejemon or User:Mikebarias. Also, based on his message, I must have earlier reverted something of his, which suggests that he is working under more than one IP address. Perhaps your magic tools can tell us if this fellow is avoiding his block and remedy the situation. Thanks muchly! — SpikeToronto 22:27, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi J. Would you mind running CheckUser on Gwen-chan (talk · contribs)? The account is only 5 days old, yet she has made contributions suggesting significant wikiexperience. See here and here. These diffs show knowledge far beyond a tyro.

Also, she is doing a lot of recent changes patrol, including warning vandals with appropriate templates, first manually and then using Twinkle. While this is in itself a good thing, how does someone who has just joined know how to revert and template on their first day and then move onto TW by the 4th day? On only her 2nd edit, she reformatted citations within an article; correctly, yes, but showing significant citation template knowledge. By her 5th edit, she was reverting vandalism and templating vandals.

I am hoping that CheckUser can provide a second point of triangulation for sockpuppetry. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 23:08, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

...Or it could be a clean start, or vanished user... Pilif12p :  Yo  23:10, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
I am aware of this, but without a CheckUser how will we know? If the CheckUser says that it is either a clean start or vanished user (the witness protection programs of the wiki world), then that is the end of it. The very reason that I came here was that, if it is one of either WP:CLEAN or WP:RTV, then one does not want to go to WP:SPI. The whole point would be not to out, or even semi-out, the individual. This also explains why I have posted no query to her talk page; because, if it is one of WP:CLEAN or WP:RTV, then even doing that would be a first step toward outing. Right? — SpikeToronto 23:26, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
fish CheckUser is not for fishing. Has the account done anything that suggests it will be disruptive? Are there any specific patterns that would suggest that it is related to a particular account? Wikipedia does not have "witness protection programs". If you want to make a comparison to real-world law-enforcement, you should go all the way. Most specifically, the assumption of innocence, not to mention probable cause. J.delanoygabsadds 01:51, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

I am aware that checkuser is not for fishing and thought I was not doing so. Perhaps you have misread me, or I was insufficiently clear (not unusual with me, I assure you!). Also, as I said, I did not have another point of triangulation (i.e., “related to another account”). But, are we not supposed to report sockpuppets or possible sockpuppets? I was not aware that the sockpuppet policy only applied if the secondary accounts are being disruptive. All I expected from you was for you to use the tools at your disposal to see if the user’s IP is editing from multiple, undeclared accounts, which I have been told by other Administrators violates our sockpuppet policy. Again, I was not fishing, or at least as I understood it here:

Checking an account where the alleged sockmaster is unknown, but there is reasonable suspicion of sockpuppetry is not fishing - a suspected sock-puppet's operator is sometimes unknown until checked. Please note that a check coming up negative does not mean that the original basis for the check was invalid.

However, from what you’ve told me here, I should only be concerned about a sockpuppet if its behavior is disruptive. Have I understood you correctly? Thanks! (Aside: In the past, our interactions have been more civil (see here, here, here (no action, but cordial response), here, here (recent one, resolved before you could answer), and here (no response, but blocked by User:Mufka). I am sorry that I offended you.) — SpikeToronto 05:21, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

You did not offend me, and I am the one who should be apologizing for my tone. J.delanoygabsadds 16:26, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. I know how very busy you are: there are very few Administrators trusted with the CheckUser tools, which gives those who have them a heavy workload. I will do my part not to add to that by henceforth focusing only on suspected sockpuppets whose behavior is disruptive, which the subject of this query is not. Enjoy your weekend! — SpikeToronto 19:19, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Inline citations

Hi there, I would like to ask you a question, does this article (Greenwood Middle School) need inline citations? Thanks! --Addihockey10e-mail 03:14, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

I'd say probably not, but different people tend to have different opinions about articles that are relatively short. In my own personal opinion, for a stub with one or maybe two sources, inline citations provide little benefit. For long articles (like Barack Obama), not having inline citations would make it almost impossible to determine what is cited to where, so they should be used. But again, that is my own opinion. Vandal IP

User:216.56.42.70 has started vandalizing articles again. I checked the block log, and you seem to have already blocked this IP once. Well, that was in February 2009. Since then, the IP has been vandalizing articles at random, and I don't see any useful edits amongst all of this. Just giving you a heads up. Eik Corell (talk) 20:44, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

The Chris Dodd troll

I believe that Kim Cardassian (talk · contribs) is the same as the Chris Dodd troll, which I chronicled here. Those on that page that remain unblocked are likely sleeper accounts.--William S. Saturn (talk) 23:58, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Massive abusive account creation

Most have been blocked, but I saw on MuZemike's talk page that you are oversighting them. They are about 750 usernames down the list in Special:Log. I can compile a list of links and post that here if you would like. Sorry to bother you, Reaper Eternal (talk) 01:07, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

I meant around 20 usernames 750 usernames deep in the log, not 750 abusive usernames. Reaper Eternal (talk) 01:10, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Well, I'm not an oversighter on enwiki. When I was talking about oversighting them, I meant lock-oversighting/lock-hiding new accounts with m:Special:CentralAuth as they pop up. If you want to email an enwiki oversighter a list of links, you can (posting them onwiki seems counterproductive to me). Still, you should know that there are still a lot of abusive usernames buried in the logs from the time before it was possible to oversight log entries, so it's probably not a huge deal if they stay there (unless they are libelous or out someone, or something similarly egregious).
Also, you don't have to apologize for "bothering" me. You aren't bothering me by asking for help. The reason I attempted to get elected to the positions that I have is so that I can help people. The day that people asking me for help bothers me is the day that I will resign. J.delanoygabsadds 01:22, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
That's what I was referring to, hiding the new accounts. I was also referring to completely hiding (also called oversighting, I guess) the talk pages of some of these accounts. Several of the earlier ones have the {{UsernameBlocked}} template on them. As to many abusive usernames being buried in the logs, about the worst I have found are "Jimbo walles is a c***", "wikipedick", "F***ReaperEternal" (lol), and a few others of that nature. Those usernames are just trolling attempts. These recent usernames are disturbing. Reaper Eternal (talk) 01:33, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Actually, come to think of it, I think I should probably just tag the user pages for speedy deletion under "G3 - Pure Vandalism". Reaper Eternal (talk) 01:42, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Well, a lot of the accounts aren't unified, and I can't do anything if they aren't. Either way, it would be better to ask a local oversighter to do it. J.delanoygabsadds 03:13, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Finally figured out how to request oversight :^P (done so). Reaper Eternal (talk) 02:51, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Notice re: "Bear Hands."

It has come to my attention that the page "Bear Hands" was deleted, presumably as Not Notable. I know nothing about the conditions of its deletion and make no appeal against whatever logic gave rise to the decision at the time, as these elements are beside the fact of the page's present requirement to be reinstated (the band in question having become notable). Indeed these considerations being superfluous I merely wish to inform you that I intend to re-create the page. Xabian40409 (talk) 09:26, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, but you don't have to do that. Recreation of a deleted page is only an issue if the page was deleted via a deletion discussion, and the new page is substantially similar to the page that was deleted. J.delanoygabsadds 22:07, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4

We meet outside by the trees at 5:00 PM.

Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.

A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.

This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

To keep up-to-date on local events, you can also join our mailing list.

failed block on User talk:208.67.141.132?

I see that User talk:208.67.141.132 was blocked last month for one year, and yet that account just made another vandalization on the Josefina Niggli page. Is there a glitch in the blocking system? Thanks, Aristophanes68 (talk) 15:33, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Talk page stalker Hi Aristophanes68, welcome in 2011. :) - [CharlieEchoTango] 15:38, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Hi J.! Hope you’re having a happy new year! From the lack of editing, I assume you are very, very busy. I haven’t spoken to you (i.e., bugged you) since October. So, I have a simple CheckUser request.

I believe User:Brighter Green and User:Carroll Gardens to be the same editor. When User:Brighter Green had edits deleted from Factory farming (see revision history), because of a conflict of interest — the citations were to his own website — these edits, still with links to www.brightergreen.org, were re-inserted the next day by User:Carroll Gardens, an account not registered until after the conflit-of-interest edits were deleted.

Since editing in this manner with two accounts would not seem to satisfy WP:SOCK#LEGIT, would you please CheckUser User:Brighter Green and User:Carroll Gardens? Thanks a million! — SpikeToronto 06:50, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&user=Brighter+Green ;-). The first account was usernameblocked, and the template for that suggests that they create a new account. So I don't think there's any problem there. And yes, I've been busy. I took a winter class, so that I don't have to attend an entire extra semester to take one gen-ed... Anyways, taking a 15-week course in three weeks is not a joke :-/ J.delanoygabsadds 03:26, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Holy studying Batman! Talk about a telescoped course! When I was at uni, back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, we used to have a period between the winter and summer term that was called intersession and it offered accelerated courses.

As for those two accounts, I feel rather foolish. Of course I should have checked the logs. I knew the account had a conflict of interest username. Therefore, if I had looked at his talk page, I would have seen the coi username notification from User:Gyrofrog, and the subsequent username block from User:Dank. I should have done some more research first. That’s not like me.

Thanks and good luck with the studying! — SpikeToronto 06:24, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

BGO Records

I started drafting an article on BGO Records (User:Arjayay/BGO Records) before discovering you had deleted a previous article.
As I have no way of knowing if this is "similar to the previously deleted page", I am, as suggested, contacting the deleting administrator

00:12, 3 July 2009 J.delanoy (talk | contribs) deleted "BGO Records" ‎(Expired PROD, concern was: No assertion of notability. Has been tagged with ?UNIQd907b466c215836-nowiki-00000000-QINU? for 6 months. Google and [http://news.go)

I cannot find any specific notability guidelines for record companies.
As listed in my draft, BGOs current artist roster includes over 300 artists who are notable enough to have their own WP article.
Searching WP for potential internal links gave over 150 matches (82 for BGO Records, 13 for Beat Goes On Records & 57 for BGO)

Could the article that was deleted be posted at the foot of my draft? I would also welcome any comments before I continue with this.
Arjayay (talk) 18:08, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

With a proposed deletion (PROD), there's no issue with "recreating deleted material". Speed deletion criterion #G4 only applies when a page was deleted via a deletion discussion. I only deleted that page because no one had contested the proposed deletion within a few days (I think it was 5 days then, it's a week now iirc).
So yeah, if you want, you can just move your page over the top of that page. If you like, I can email you the content which the page had before, so you can see if you want to incorporate some of it into your new article. If you do, please let me know so that I can restore the deleted history of the page, to properly attribute the original authors. J.delanoygabsadds 19:06, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
Sorry to be so slow in replying, although I added this page to my watchlist, I missed your reply.

Hey J.! As he who knows everything, I wonder if you could help me with a problem I am having with my SUL Account? When I log in here at the English Wikipedia, if I then go to other language Wikipedias, I am logged in. Good so far. But, when I go over to any of the other Wikimedia projects (e.g., Meta, Wiktionary, Commons, etc.), I am rarely if ever logged in and have to do it manually. These are my SUL details. Sometimes, over at the side, there is a warning at s4, whatever that means. Any ideas? Can I fix this? Thanks!SpikeToronto 18:53, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Ignore the s4 warning, that's just technical details for those who use the toolserver; I would guess it has to do with the massive toolserver data loss that happened recently. Regardless it has nothing to do with your problem. Have you cleared your cookies? The SUL login cookie is a little different from the local one, and sulutil does say you have successfully merged the accounts (you can always double-check this by going to Special:MergeAccount). Try clearing your cookies and then logging in. It may also have to do with the security level of your browser. What browser do you use? --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 18:59, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer Shirik! I am using Internet Explorer (IE). Also, I did clear my cookies last week when the English Wikipedia kept logging me out seconds after I had logged in. It may be possible that I missed some of the cookies. Also, a few of the Wikimedia cookies that I tried to delete, for whatever reason, Windows would not let me delete them … a dialogue box kept popping up telling me that the cookie could not be deleted … may have been because I had not shut all IE windows … Thanks! — SpikeToronto 19:24, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
P.S.  The thing I’ve the most difficulty grasping is why it has no problem logging me into the other language Wikipedias, but has problems logging me into the non-Wikipedia Wikimedia projects. — SpikeToronto 02:12, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
UPDATE:  Hey Shirik (and J.!). I just deleted each and every cookie in my temporary internet files directory with the letters wiki in it. Then, I rebooted my computer and logged back into Wikipedia. The single, unified login still logs me into the English Wikipedia (of course! ) and any of the other-language Wikipedias that I surf over to (e.g., Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, etc.).

However, it still does not log me into any non-Wikipedia Wikimedia projects (e.g., Commons, Meta, Wiktionary, etc.), even though these are specified in my detailed SUL listing. As odd as this question is going to sound, is it possible that the SUL cookie does not have the letters wiki in it, and, therefore, did not get deleted? Any other suggestions? Do you think that this is something that I should take to WP:VPT or some other place here at Wikipedia? (I’m sure J. wishes I would sod off from his page!) Thanks for all your help!SpikeToronto 08:33, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Don't worry about the browser or anything else, I have the exact same problem (s4 issue and login issue), and I use a different OS and a different browser. It's most likely a technical problem on the side of Wikimedia and should be (if not already) resolved soon. Well, I hope so! [CharlieEchoTango] 08:40, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
With all due respect, what you are saying makes little sense. First off, all this means is that you are encountering the same problem, not that it is a problem on Wikimedia's side. Furthermore, the "s4 issue" is not an issue at all, and is in no way related to your account or his or anyone's. It is a status report on the replication lag of the toolserver, and nothing more. It is entirely unrelated to this issue. Using the ostrich algorithm is not going to get the problem solved. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 08:46, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Sorry then, if I'm misleading SpikeToronto. I just thought the problem was the site, since my browser accepts third-party cookies and I had the exact same problem as he does. But again, I really should stay away from anything technical :P. Cheers - [CharlieEchoTango] 08:56, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) (edit conflict) OK it sounds like your cookie is being blocked, and there are some good reasons for this. It may appear to be a third-party cookie (one that is supplied by an outside site) because the domains don't match. These are often blocked by default because it is often a privacy violation. You have two possible solutions. The first, you may wish to try the secure server. Because it's always "secure.wikimedia.org" it should allow the cookie as a first-party cookie. Alternatively, you might try adding wikimedia.org and wikipedia.org to the "trusted zone" in Internet Explorer (this has its own consequences, but it is an option). There are alternative options too, but they are a little harder to describe briefly. I would try the secure server option first just to make sure we have a bead on what is causing it. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 08:43, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
A note, interwiki links do not work across the secure server as far as I am aware, so here is a link to the main page of commons on the secure server. If you log in on the secure server here then click this link and you stay logged in, that would seem to indicate the problem is that your browser is denying third-party cookies. It works for me currently. (I do not, and cannot currently, use the non-secure login to verify that choice.) --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 08:48, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Well, I logged on using the secure server. Then I came back to this page and clicked on the link provided. Guess what? I was logged in at Commons! The only problem with the secure server, though, is that Internet Explorer 8 constantly asks me, Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely? I think it’s because some of the images are not considered secure … but I’m not really sure.

So, the problem, I guess, is either security level or third-party cookies. Yet, there were a lot of Wikimedia cookies that I deleted; there was one for each Wikimedia project. So, it must have accepted them at one time or other.

One comment regarding trusted sites. My browser, each and every time I surf over to a trusted site, pops up a dialogue box asking if I’m sure I want to go there. This boggles my mind since the obvious answer would be, Well, it is a trusted site, n’est-ce pas?

I hope this test unlocks the mystery for you Shirik. You’re being a great help! Thanks! — SpikeToronto 09:10, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

P.S.  Still does not work if I log in on the non-secure site (i.e., en.wikipedia.org. — SpikeToronto 09:13, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
UPDATE:  On a hunch, I tried logging in on the regular, non-secure Wikipedia using a different computer that is running Internet Explorer 6, and the same thing happens: get logged into all the other-language Wikipedias and none of the non-Wikipedia Wikimedia projects. Just thought I’d give you one more piece of info. Thanks!SpikeToronto 09:43, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
My guess is that the root cause of this lies in how modern browsers handle security. Different projects are at different sites, so the browser denies access to the session cookie held by the other sites. J.delanoygabsadds 01:05, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
guess I should pay attention :P I have no idea why it does that, but it does the same for me (running FF 4.0b9). J.delanoygabsadds 01:07, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
See, now that surprises me because I thought that FireFox was the miracle browser. Perhaps the problem lies with the Wikimedia end of things? Thanks! — SpikeToronto 01:14, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Did some testing on this. Firstly should say that I use Chrome and haven't encountered any problems. So started up IE 8, and logged into enwp, this didn't log me in on commons. So tried the secure server, this did log me onto commons' secure server. Tried adding both http://en.wikipedia.org and http://commons.wikimedia.org to the Trusted Sites, this made so that logging in on the non-secure server also logged me in on commons. So two options: Add commons etc. to your trusted sites or use the secure server (or Chrome! ;D). I'd say the second option is much better in terms of security. To get rid of the pop up box, you can go to Control Panel > Internet Options > Security > Pick Zone* > Custom Level > Scroll to the "Display Mixed Content" setting, which should currently be on "Prompt", select Enable or Disable. *Which zone you pick is which zone will be effected, so the Wikimedia sites are in the Internet zone by default. If you pick the Internet zone I suggest you select "Disable" (if you're bothered about security... although I wouldn't lose any sleep over people using "Enable", personally). - Kingpin13 (talk) 01:38, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
Eureka! It’s fixed! I added the following to my trusted sites:
After entering these into trusted sites, I disabled Display Mixed Content to stop that infernal pop-up. Then, I logged off WP, exited IE, cleared out the IE temporary files with a quick delete from inside Internet Options, re-launched IE, logged back into WP, and discovered that it worked. Every other-language Wikipedia was logged in (thanks to *.wikipedia.org), and all the various non-Wikipedia Wikimedia projects were also logged in (e.g., Wiktionary, Commons, Meta, etc.) thanks to the other strings (e.g., *.wikimedia.org, *.wiktionary.org, etc.).

Thanks Kingpin, Shirik, CharlieEchoTango, and J. for all your help!! Is there some FAQ or HELP page that this solution can be added to for other Wikipedians who may be having the same problem? Thanks again!! — SpikeToronto 07:53, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors

Hi! Since you've been identified as an Awesome Wikipedian, I wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.

If that sounds like you and you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors during the current term, which started in January and goes through early May. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:54, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Si Gam Aceh

Hi! I found this at the Indonesian Wikipedia: id:Wikipedia:Surat pernyataan permintaan penghapusan gambar-gambar penghinaan terhadap Nabi Muhammad saw.. I'm not exactly sure what it is (I don't know Indonesian, so I am not sure if this is a userbox or an essay or something) - But it seems like Si Gam Aceh is editing again. Is his block expired? WhisperToMe (talk) 01:39, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Well, a block on the English Wikipedia does not extend to other projects. So even if he is blocked here, it is perfectly possible for him to edit any other project he chooses. If a user account vandalizes many projects, it may be globally locked from MetaWiki by a steward. Be aware, though, that this is not usually done unless it becomes clear that local blocks are ineffective at stopping a user from disrupting many, many projects. Therefore, it is very rare for accounts to be locked for anything other than widespread crude vandalism. (or oddities like offensive usernames) J.delanoygabsadds 03:20, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
He had a meta-level block from all Wikimedia projects. See meta:Steward_requests/Global/2010-08#Global_lock_for_Si_Gam_Ac.C3.A8h WhisperToMe (talk) 03:36, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
The account that was locked is Si Gam Acèh. Note the diacritic. I believe the account that created that petition is Si Gam Aceh, which does not have the diacritic. J.delanoygabsadds 17:13, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Credo accounts

Hi JD, I'm looking for some advice from you as a steward. Credo Reference has donated another 400 reference accounts to Wikipedians, and we're currently drawing up a page for people to apply for them; the list will open next week some time, hopefully. See WP:CREDO. I know where to let people know about this on the English WP, but I'm less sure of where to post on Meta and elsewhere to make sure it reaches people on the other language Wikipedias. Can you advise where I can find links to relevant pages, so that editors on non-English Wikipedias don't feel left out of this? SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 22:33, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Hmm. I'm not entirely sure. I would probably say the m:Wikimedia_Forum or m:Meta:Babel. The former seems marginally more "correct", but it probably wouldn't hurt to post in both places. (sorry for the late response, been crazy busy with school - on break this next week finally). J.delanoygabsadds 23:44, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Invitation to take part in a study

I am a Wikipedian, who is studying the phenomenon on Wikipedia. I need your help to conduct my research on about understanding "Motivation of Wikipedia contributors." I would like to invite you to Main Study. Please give me your valuable time, which estimates about 20 minutes. I chose you as a English Wikipedia user who made edits recently through the RecentChange page. Refer to the first page in the online survey form for more information on the study and me.cooldenny (talk) 01:19, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

You're invited to the New York Wiknic!

You could be having this much fun! Seriously, consider coming.

This message is being sent to inform you of a Wikipedia picnic that is being held in your area next Saturday, June 25. From 1 to 8 PM or any time in between, join your fellow volunteers for a get together at Norman's Landscape (directions) in Manhattan's Central Park.

Take along your friends (newbies permitted), your family and other free culture enthusiasts! You may also want to pack a blanket, some water or perhaps even a frisbee.

If you can, share what you're bringing at the discussion page.

Also, please remember that this is the picnic that anyone can edit so bring enough food to share!

To subscribe to future events, follow the mailing list or add your username to the invitation list. BrownBot (talk) 19:09, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Question

Hi, J.delanoy, I was just wondering why you did this. If in your opinion that text shouldn't be there, why not just delete it completely? Lotje ツ (talk) 09:29, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

I don't like deleting talk pages that have other stuff on them.... I don't really remember why specifically I didn't delete that page. Last month has been pretty crazy, sorry. J.delanoygabsadds 23:39, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

I like your message that starts with something like "Beware that I am a Checkuser." I do recall nominating you to be an administrator but hardly anyone supported and it failed right away. But after another attempt, not only I notice it passed, I see you are a Checkuser and a Steward! That's a huge step, I still feel good about attempting to get you to be an admin even if my nomination didn't work. NHRHS2010 the student pilot 17:29, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Your recent claims

Dear J.delanoy. I am really surprised to hear that I could be editing from someone else's account. [3] This is simply impossible technically. I am the only account for my edits. Some editors may develop close online camaraderie on certain pages of their mutual interest but that is where the issue stops. Your use of wikistalk is controversial. I added my name next to names of users who opposed my edits and wikistalk found very close similarity. There were several attempts to file bogus SPIs but all of them failed. Vandorenfm (talk) 02:57, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

I did not use Wikistalk. I used Special:CheckUser. CheckUser is a tool that allows a few users to see Wikipedia's server logs. Among other things, I can see what IP addresses were used by various accounts, and conversely, what accounts have edited from a particular IP address. This is completely different than Wikistalk, and is typically much less likely to produce false positives. J.delanoygabsadds 22:47, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
I edit from a metropolitan area, which is one of the largest in the world, with millions of users relying on one provider. This provider has thousands of migrating IPs. I think this is a coincidence which drew attention because a few editors gravitate to the same articles and topics. But this is natural. If someone is interested in the topic of Nagorno-Karabakh, he/she is naturally involved in the articles on Shusha, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Nagorno-Karabakh War, Caucasian Albania because all of them are key sub-topics for Nagorno-Karabakh. Please note that User:Hetoum I, User:Bars77 or User:Gorzaim were never involved in two large articles that I authored and edited almost alone - Nor Varagavank and Hovhannes Imastaser. Deleting copyvios in ar.wiki

I see you're a steward, so maybe you can help. Can you read the message I left at User:OsamaK and the linked message there (in English) that I left at ar.wiki? An ar.wiki user uploaded a bunch of copyvios to commons, which were deleted there. (The user participated in the deletion discussion.) Immediately after the deletion at commons, the user reuploaded the copyvios to ar.wiki, where they are now in use. Thanks for your help, and let me know if this isn't something stewards do (I don't understand the role terribly well). Calliopejen1 (talk) 18:48, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Nomination of Nicole Sheridan for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Nicole Sheridan is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nicole Sheridan until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. David in DC (talk) 20:26, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Hello Best O Fortuna. I've warned Strongone11 for 3RR. The people who are blanking sections are taking out 'Lawsuits' and 'Personal life'. I think consensus is needed on whether these sections belong in the article. The case for including 'Lawsuits' seems weaker; 'Personal Life' seems adequately sourced but is kind of gossipy. Whether the treatments she recommends are medically sound is a topic of interest but would need careful handling. I notice that the sources include TMZ, MomLogic.com and Parade Magazine -- probably not ideal. Those interested in this matter should start a thread on the article talk page and try to reach agreement. If not enough participants can be found, make a request at WP:BLP/N. Please see Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User talk:Rlevse. Someone's suggesting that the username Rlevse be registered (to prevent the user talk page from showing up as belonging to a nonexistent user) and immediately indefinitely blocked, and another person replied that it would potentially require the intervention of a steward, due to SUL matters. Could you please look into doing this? Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 13:28, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

I don't think that's really necessary. If creating the account would require steward/bureaucrat intervention, there is not much risk of someone creating the account in order to impersonate Rlevse. On the other hand, the page isn't really doing anything by existing, and to be honest, a quick look at the page logs for User:Rlevse indicates clearly that the account's owner exercised his/her Right To Vanish. Re: Macedonia disambiguation

Do not care what is your nationality and what is your knowledge about Macedonia. But if you want to be correct and neutral: 1. Neutral approach you can found in Macedonia disambiguation on other languages , f.e. in Portuguese 2. There is no necessity to place map in disambiguation, but if it is so important for you, the map must be neutral. You say “ revert deeper - there is nothing wrong with the map” Are sure ? There is marked only one part of disambiguation . Why ? 2.1 May be this part was a core of Ancient Macedonia  ? No – the core was mainly in Macedonia (Greece). Futhermore, from the point of view of ancient geography, name of marked part is Peonia. 2.2 May be this part was the core of Ottoman Macedonia before 1912 ? No- the core was again Macedonia (Greece) with main center Thessaloniki. 2.3. May be marked part is the biggest part of former ottoman Macedonia ? No- the biggest part again is Macedonia (Greece),about 60% of former ottoman province.

This map is silly irredentist game, trying to proof that the new slavic-albanian state is core of Macedonia and there are other parts under control of neighbors.. This have nothing to do with real geography and history of region. If you want to participate in this silly game, this is your right. But do not say that there is nothing wrong. It is clear violation of neutrality. Macedon-40 (talk) 13:04, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

In the discussion that led to the creation of WP:MOSMAC (the style guide for naming conventions related to the term "Macedonia"), it was decided that for the purposes of this encyclopedia, there may practically be some confusion with the modern Greek province or the ancient kingdom, so the article about the modern nation-state was placed at Republic of Macedonia, and the page "Macedonia" was made into a disambiguation page, listing possible meanings of the word. The modern nation-state self-styled in its constitution as "Republic of Macedonia" is overwhelmingly referred to in the English language as simply "Macedonia". Furthermore, the word "Macedonia" is nearly always used in the English language to refer to the modern nation-state. Use of either the nation-state's provisional United Nations designation "The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia", the acronym "FYROM", or other similar terms such as "Macedonia (FYROM)" are confined in English to maps, charts, or other such tools. They are basically never used in English prose.
Therefore, in order to represent the widest range of standard English usage, it was decided that the modern nation-state would be referred to on the English Wikipedia as either "Republic of Macedonia" or simply "Macedonia". Given that there has never been any other entity called "Republic of Macedonia" by anyone, it was decided that this term would be sufficient for resolving possible confusion: for example, "History of Macedonia" is a disambiguation page, with links to Macedonia (region)#History, History of modern Macedonia (Greece), and History of the Republic of Macedonia. Since the term "Republic of Macedonia" is simple, clear, and supported by common English usage, it was decided that other terms would not be used. The names used in the map simply reflect this, for consistency's sake.
Wikipedia is not a political tool. The site's style is designed to follow common English usage. There is no practical reason to use any of the longer designations for the nation-state, as the continued use of this term at all anywhere in the world is absolutely and completely contingent on the steadfast refusal of the Greek government to move one centimeter in its position. The United Nations admitted Macedonia to its body using a provisional designation based solely on the fact that Greece raised extremely vocal objections to the republic's usage of the term "Republic of Macedonia". The newly independent nation-state acquiesced to the Greek demands at the timebecause it wished to join the international community as soon as possible. The only reason why any countries still refer to the country in diplomatic relations using the UN designation is because it is the UN designation, not because they support the Greek position.
This is not a question of neutrality, this is a question about whether the English Wikipedia is going to cave in to what is solely a Greek political concern, and one that is either totally ignored or openly opposed by literally every nation on the planet, and is basically ignored by all (and I mean ALL) English-language media. And please don't find a few articles that do use the Greek-supported term, because a few exceptions do not invalidate a practically universal condition. If my writing seems a bit harsh, it is because I have been dealing with this issue on and off for the past two and a half years, and I thoroughly SICK of the Greek position on the issue. In my own opinion, this is one of the single most stupid disputes in recent history. J.delanoygabsadds 20:29, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
"Wikipedia is not a political tool” –but you are using Wiki as political tool.

And you are really “thoroughly SICK” as you even not try to understand what I say. Irrespectively of my personal position on this “stupid dispute” my demand is different. Once again. While somebody put the term "Republic of Macedonia" on the map, the term Macedonia to be placed on bigger part, on the map of Greece. Otherwise it is simply silly attempt, using Wiki as political tool, for Usurpation and Monopolisation of geographical and historical term. If you do not understand this – it is your problem. Block of 46.116.156.241

I haven't been active in the protection/blocking functions, so this isn't so much a challenge as it is a question. I saw the request for semi-protection at Counter-Strike. I see an IP has been attempting to add a link not in compliance with WP:EL. I do see a warning at the IP talk page, but only a single warning. I thought the usual sequence was a series of escalating warnings, with a final warning as the last step before blocking. I do know that the sequence can jump to a block without the interim or final warnings, but this doesn't meet what I thought were the usual exceptions. Your thoughts would be welcome. As an aside, I was in the middle of granting semi-protection, and not even sure I support my own decision, as I recently argued that when the problem comes from one editor, that editor should be addressed. However, given the repeated nature, and the need to revdel prior additions, and the lack of interim warnings, I thought Semi-protection would be the best course. Again, this isn't a big deal, but I'm interested in the thought process.'--SPhilbrick(Talk) 18:40, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

I blocked him outright primarily because he was already blocked a few days ago on a different IP for doing the same exact thing. Normally I wouldn't have blocked when he had only one warning for something like that, but it was quite obvious that he knew that he was doing something that wasn't allowed (linking to illegal material), and he didn't stop. I blocked him because I am hoping that he will get the hint and quit it. The way I view it, if he does, then I have avoided locking down an entire page because of one person. If he doesn't, I can still lock the page if needed. RevDeleting is quite easy to do, and the slight extra effort is, in my opinion, worth it if it means that I don't have to protect the page. Still, I should note that I usually try to avoid protecting pages if I can do so. Most admins are much more likely than me to protect pages, and I don't think that what you did was a bad idea, I just personally dislike having to lock pages. J.delanoygabsadds 18:59, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the answer, I missed that the editor had been previously blocked, so that puts a very different picture on it. MSU Interview

Dear J.delanoy,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:17, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Using your photos

Hi, I was just wondering if you allow people to steal your photos. Right now at www.hockeybuzz.com the blogger has used your picture of the Stanley Cup. At least I think it's your photo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.71.239.171 (talk) 17:39, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Well, images hosted on Wikimedia Commons (which is where that image is hosted) have to be licensed in such a way that other people are free to use them or create derivative works of them. The copy of the image that I created was itself a derivative work of an image that someone else took. If someone else wants to use my derivative work, they have the right to do so, because of the way that I licensed the image. Ideally, they would have credited either me or the original image creator, but even though it appears that they did not (if that image even is mine, which I can't tell), it doesn't really matter to me. Thanks for letting me know, though. J.delanoygabsadds 01:17, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

I dislike removing talk page access at all. I especially dislike it before a user has been given a chance to appeal a block, or a modification of a block (if the modification makes the block more longer/more severe). J.delanoygabsadds 03:55, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Distribution America

Hi. The Distribution America article has been deleted a couple of times in the past, and I'm contacting you as the most recent deleting administrator. Check "what links here" to Distribution America to see a bunch of red links I've created, simply by double-bracketing pre-existing references, to establish notability. This is a retailers' cooperative, and some of the members of the co-op have articles on Wikipedia. I could re-start the article from scratch, but I guess policy prefers restoring the old article and fixing it. I can edit to tone down or eliminate the blatant advertising the deleted version apparently had. Note that List of retailers' cooperatives#Hardware stores shows that this is the only major hardware co-op that doesn't have an article. Thanks, Wbm1058 (talk) 15:27, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

ConfirmAccount extension

Hey :). You're being contacted because you are involved in the ACC process, or participated in the original discussion in '08 about the ConfirmAccount extension. This is a note to let you know that we are seeking opinions on switching this extension on, effectively making the ACC process via the Toolserver redundant. You can read all the details here; I would be very grateful if people would indicate how they feel about the idea :). Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 13:21, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi J Delanoy

I'm looking for your checkuser advice on this please.

I was trying to get other editors to help with the article Callum Stone because this user moved it from mainstream to a list article, I'm trying to improve it to get it back to mainstream. One of the editors I asked looked at this editors user page and found that it has been tagged as a possible sockpuppet of User:KirkleyHigh. Bit worried that the account was still editing so I looked on the SPI page for the user and can't find any report logged for User:WhatTheWorldNeedsNow, when I looked on the user talk page I also can't see anything mentioned about an SPI report there. I've looked at the edits, they are similar as I can see KirkleyHigh was blocked for uploading image violations and WhatTheWorldNeedsNow has received warnings for similar offences. I'm not too sure if I should open an SPI seeing as the user is already tagged as a possible sock, can you offer some advice please on what to do?--5 albert square (talk) 11:46, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

Abuse Filter on the Article Feedback Tool

Hey there :). You're being contacted because you're an edit filter manager, At the moment, we're developing Version 5 of the Article Feedback Tool, which you may or may not have heard about. If you haven't; for the first time, this will involve a free-text box where readers can submit comments :). Obviously, there's going to be junk, and we want to minimise that junk. To do so, we're working the Abuse Filter into the tool.

For this to work, we need people to write and maintain filters. I'd be very grateful if you could take a look at the discussion here and the attached docs, and comment and contribute! Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:18, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

I was almost killed by the Hoa Hao and my blog has true accounts about insight into their beliefs and their culture. What is the purpose of having an external link section if you can't link to relevant material? How can I accomplish getting my page restored? You are enabling these evil xenophobes by hiding the truth about who they are. Please help

74.217.89.29 (talk) 03:59, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

I am not enabling anyone. Wikipedia is not a soapbox, and you may not use it to attempt to spread any message, no matter how good or evil this group may or may not be. Wikipedia is not a collection of external links; any additions must provide relevant, encyclopedic, information, not merely attempts to promote a message about an article's subject. Linking to blogs in general is not a great idea, and adding the same link indiscriminately to many pages will almost always be undone. If you take legal action against Wikipedia, you will be blocked without prejudice for the duration of the litigation. Wikipedia is not a place to spread the "truth" about anything. Wikipedia is a place to present well-sourced, cited, non-slanted information. J.delanoygabsadds 04:11, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Regarding Elliot Joyce

Hi J.delanoy. I have responded with 3 rather lengthy paragraphs on WP:ANEW#User:ElliotJoyce reported by User:Malik Shabazz (Result: ). Apologies for the length, but I believe my argument is sound and that Malik Shabazz is abusing his authority against me. If you have the time, please check out what I've written. I plan to revert Mr. Shabazz's edits on the Atlantic Slave Trade and African Slave Trade articles to what they originally were before the edit war began after a reasonable time has passed (yes, I am actually fighting for the original, not a change, but this is all explained at WP:ANEW#User:ElliotJoyce reported by User:Malik Shabazz (Result: )). Thanks. ElliotJoyce (talk) 05:01, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thank you for correctly removing my IP vandal report at AIV, which I had placed there in error. The IP I reported was actually reverting a vandal IP and I got the two mixed up. The vandal IP was subsequently blocked, and I have apologized to the good one. Thanks for all you do! Jusdafax 16:27, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I have tagged User:207.160.218.253, as an Edu IP, registered to Missouri Research and Education Network, University of Missouri. Might you wish to review the block length in the light of this? Best, TerriersFan (talk) 15:50, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

I saw that it had been blocked in the past, but the last block expired almost a year ago, so I think it is unlikely that the current vandal is related to the one last year, so I chose a block length accordingly. If someone else feels the block is too short, I have no objections if they wish to lengthen it. J.delanoygabsadds 15:53, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

Hello. A while back, I have reverted this edit (was using a different computer at the time) to Antarctica. I had thought that it was a bit humorous. I noticed spelling such as "hotest", and the word "fire" used in a context which I would not expect it to be used in, indicating that a find and replace was conducted. The IP address was registered to the postal service. I thought this was a little bit humorous. Not intending to attack another editor, but I almost could think that somebody was going postal! I was thinking you may wish to add this to your list of funny things on your user page if you believed that this was notable. 70.248.176.149 (talk) 23:23, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Unblock request of Silenceplace

Hello J.delanoy. Silenceplace (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), whom you have blocked, is requesting to be unblocked. The request for unblock is on hold while waiting for a comment from you. Regards, Danger! High voltage! 02:23, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

I still check my talk page, but I've been very, very busy IRL, and I really don't have enough time to look into this right now (I don't remember the case at all, but the block was made pretty close to when I was first given checkuser rights, so it is definitely possible that my inexperience resulted in me blocking an innocent user). Since the case in point is so old, checkuser is likely to be useless, but it may not hurt to have a checkuser take a look, since it appears that he was caught in a major spam takedown. Still, after three years, I'm inclined to say go ahead and unblock if there's nothing on checkuser. I do have to wonder, though, why he waited so long to make an unblock request...
