Wish list
Getting these issues resolved has been ongoing now for several years since I first populated the list of desired improvements. Not wishing to intervene too much however, since relaxing not only my tutelage of NPR, but also having largely withdrawn from editing due to purely personal reasons, to support the perfectly legal canvassing for the Wish list, I would nevertheless be prepared to write a compelling article for The Signpost about NPR which would also strongly emphasise the need to support the Wish list. The magazine has a far greater coverage than the NPR newsletter - I elive about 5,000 subscribers. There isn't much time and it would need to be in the November issue at the latest which appears at the end of that month. It's too late for the current issue. I'm not sure however, what the deadline is for the Wish list submissions.Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 06:53, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Kudpung: That's good to know. I've been filing some Phab tickets for the suggestion page items, and in general organising that page. Getting close to being finished and moving over to a discussion on the reviewers' noticeboard on which of these tasks (or all of them) should be included in our Community Wishlist Survey. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 13:22, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- I've been watching what you've been doing and I'm quite impressed. You're beginnig to realise now what my work for NPP has involved over the years. What's the deadline for the wishlist? I just don't have time to hunt around. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 13:31, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Kudpung: From Community Wishlist Survey 2019
- Submit, discuss and revise proposals: October 29 to November 11, 2018
- Community Tech reviews and organizes proposals: November 13 to November 15, 2018
- Vote on proposals: November 16 to November 30, 2018
- Results posted: December 3, 2018
- I'm not sure how to process Wikipedia:Page_Curation/Suggested_improvements#28._Tag_for_hist_merge, but other than that I think I'm done with the Phab Tasks. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 13:39, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- I don't know how to do hist merges, but why not just transclude the whole page to where you want it? I'm going to be pressed to write an article for this month's Signpost due out at the end of this month, but I'll see what I can do. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 13:46, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- One thing that has always given me pause is that of the available categories for the wish list, there just isn't one for critical core developments. It really is focussed on convenience gadgets. It's a Catch 22. I think it very unfair that Horn forces us to go through this process. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk)
- @Kudpung: That's OK, I'll just say something to that effect at the start of the proposal. Are we allowed to canvass for votes in the wishlist survey? — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 13:58, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- Fortunately, canvassing in all its forms is expressly permitted for the Wish list, unless Horn has changed his mind and I'm not aware of it. I've already started drafting an article for The Signpost - it has to be an article rather than just a short notice, because you would be surprised just how many people don't have a clue what NPP is or if they have even heard about it. They need to know about it and how important NPP is, and if they understand that, we might win their support for a wishlist entry. Leave it with me. I'll also help you script up something compelling for the next newsletter if you like. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 14:39, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Kudpung: OK. Done. See Wikipedia_talk:New_pages_patrol/Reviewers#Community_Wishlist_Proposal. I really would love your input as much as possible. Now I need to get back to job applications. I just moved to London and need to find a job and have been procrastinating doing this... 😉 It's progress in some form at least. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 16:20, 19 October 2018 (UTC)

- @Kudpung: We really need to get more discussion going at Wikipedia_talk:New_pages_patrol/Reviewers#Community_Wishlist_Proposal. I wonder if sending out a newsletter now with an invitation to join in on that conversation would be a good idea? I'd have to send another short message next week with "TIME TO VOTE!" and it might be better if the Vote! message was short and to the point anyway. What is your opinion? — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 08:02, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
- That table is excellent and I c an imagine the effort you put into it. The problem is nobody will be bothered to read it in detail. That's not because of you, it's just the way Wikipedians are generally. You probably won't remember, but I ran a poll on the very same thing a couple of years back before one of Horn's annual stocking filler offers. I think it's at Wikipedia:The future of NPP and AfC but I don't have time to look. I think a newsletter would be a good idea, but it should be worded like a newletter rather than an appeal or a begging letter. There are ways of making the right level of compelling text work. Do remember also that a lot of people have been taking themselves off the Newletter mailing list - that's one of the reasons I suggested they should therefore be struck from the NPR group. Such people really are pur-und-dur just hat collectors. I'm working on the Signpost article. The joke of all this is that the WMF has more than enough funds to put a dedicated team of 4 people on these issues for 6 months, but the staff belive the money is thiers and any spending will affect their penion funds or severqnce pay. If they'd all spend less time on junkets and more in the office, more would get done. They hardly get home from one conference than they start repacking their suitcases for the next one. I won't mention any names, but I know who they are. At least 100 of them were in Wikimania in SA. $3M to get them there and back not counting their 5 star hotels, and the budget from scholarships is only a fraction of that, and in some cases the awardees are lucky if all they get to eat for the week is a dried up bagel, or a plate of thin Chinese rice soup with a fried egg swimming in it. Bin there, done that, and really did get the T-shirts. I expect LDN is a bit of shock after Kiwiland.Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk)

Hello Insertcleverphrasehere, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!
- Backlog
As of 21 October 2018[update], there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.
- Community Wishlist Proposal
- There is currently an ongoing discussion regarding the drafting of a Community Wishlist Proposal for the purpose of requesting bug fixes and missing/useful features to be added to the New Page Feed and Curation Toolbar.
- Please join the conversation as we only have until 29 October to draft this proposal!
- Project updates
- ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
- There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.
- New scripts
- User:Enterprisey/cv-revdel.js(info) — A new script created for quickly placing {{copyvio-revdel}} on a page.

Hmm
As to this, won't it be possible to integrate this through MediaWiki:PageTriageExternalTagsOptions.js and per this? - I'm not quite sure what this thread is about - I don't have time to fully examine it and I'm not an expert on code. However, I do remember distinctly at one stage being able to do modifications to the texts in the curation flyout. So some of that flyout is not hard coded. It may require admin access to do it though. Hope this helps. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:53, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
- ICPH, I have integrated the banned-user-parameter into the interface-page (as an optional variable) and have taken the liberty to remove the feature of sending t/p notifications, in case of G5 taggings per DENY. Twinkle does not send a t/p message in such cases and I fail to find a single example, as to how a G5-deletion-notice might be ever helpful. If you feel that that the changes are all good, I will put an edit-request.∯WBGconverse 13:21, 22 October 2018 (UTC)

Superlinks
Got your email. Yes, the script is complete — feel free to share it wherever you see fit. The documentation is at User:Bradv/Scripts/Superlinks. If you have any suggestions for improvement, let me know. Cheers. Bradv 04:20, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
- Bradv I love this script and the related 'powerbar' script. However, I've noticed a bug with regards to it and other scripts I have installed. This is really bizarre, but when I load ONLY the Superlinks script, and nothing else, it doesn't display the 'NPP Flowchart' link on new pages. I did process of elimination in my common.js, and I found that unless I have User:Kephir/gadgets/rater installed, the link won't appear (which is strange, this is a script I don't really even use any more). User:Kephir/gadgets/rater must be doing something that fixes a bug in the superlinks script. Oddly, I noticed that you don't have User:Kephir/gadgets/rater installed, and I tried installing the exact same common.js that you have, and I can't get the 'NPP Flowchart' link to appear on new pages. Any thoughts as to what might be going on here?
- As for the Powerbar script, I have some suggestions. It would be good to have them colour coded redrirect/non-redirect, and redirects should be linked with 'noredirect' in the URL so that you don't get sent to the target page instead. There is a similar script: User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js, but this one also displays 'reviewed' pages (unreviewed ones are greyed so that you know what is reviewed and what isn't), which is useful because you can pick up on stuff that you would otherwise miss if the feed only showed unreviewed pages (such as bad reviews, and bad autopatrolled submissions). Ability to display unreviewed pages as well could be optional or default perhaps? — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 08:07, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
- Bradv On a side note, would you by chance know how I can get User:Insertcleverphrasehere/copyvios.js to open in a new tab rather than in the current one? — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 08:56, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
- Add this line to your script:
$("#t-copyvio-check > a").attr("target", "_blank");
Bradv 20:34, 25 October 2018 (UTC)- Bradv Thanks! Works like a charm. I notice that the above issue doesn't happen anymore, but now I can't get the NPP Flowchart button to appear at all on new pages now. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 08:14, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
- The flowchart button works by detecting the presence of the Page Curation toolbar. If one of your other scripts or gadgets is interfering with that then the flowchart button would not show up. Can I request that bugs and feature requests be posted at User talk:Bradv/Scripts/Superlinks? I'm really busy irl right now, and won't get a chance to tinker with this for at least a few more days. Bradv 14:18, 26 October 2018 (UTC)

- Sphilbrick that's because one of the comments in the js includes the text "{{Copyvio-revdel}}" and templates are actually transcluded (in a manner) on javascript pages. Galobtter (pingó mió) 17:12, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Possible page move problem
Hi User:Insertcleverphrasehere, I recently participated in a deletion discussion for Metropolitan Connecticut. I proposed a move at the same page after the AfD closed as a keep. Something strange is going on as the titles are different and the talk page history is not complete. Would you be able to research this and tell me what happened? Stocking fillers
Santa's office at the San Francisco North Pole opened today for requests for toys for Christmas. It closes again in just two weeks when trolling polling starts November 16. Where are you at? As I said, I'll help draft the letter to the man in the pointed red hat. It's needs to be extremely carefully crafted, considering also that there is no category in the polling booth for core MeidaWiki extensions, so anyone blowing their horn that NPP needs to beg on their bended knee before a deity in a grotto, is quite aware that they have deliberately put NPP in a Catch 22. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 20:57, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
- Sorry, had a busy weekend. I'll get back to you tomorrow with a stab at it, and then we can discuss. One of the issues is that some of the stuff we thought was hard coded actually isn't (such as messages; so I need to go through and clear out the list a bit. There are bugs, and there is some stuff (such as 'problem flagging') which was never finished when the tools were created, and the proposed NPR message system that can be used as prominent examples of needed features, and then we can ask for ongoing support from the WMF. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 21:13, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
- I had already mentioned that some parts of the fly-out can be locally modified. You'lll need to move ahead extremely quickly with this poll because the if NPP stays too long between the horns of this dilemma, it will be out of it again for yet another year. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 08:17, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Kudpung: I have made a first draft of the submission here: User:Insertcleverphrasehere/2019_CW_submission. Feel free to discuss on that page's talk page, or to make additions/revisions. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 09:56, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- Please do not post that proposal on the wish list together with the votes that have already been made. Voting is not open yet. That would give the horns of plenty even more reasons to disqualify it. And they will. Copy and paste your proposal when it is ready and without the votes, then you can ask them to make their votes again later. I'll take care of most of the canvassing because I have one or two things up my sleeve (perfectly legal) because NPP is going to need literally hundreds of votes on the wishlist, perhaps so many that it makes a mockery of the wishlist in general. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 00:44, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

- I only found that by coincidence yesterday . It absolutely echoes exactly what I've been saying for years. Perhaps the link should be sent to Mr Horn to refresh his memory. - This was another of my efforts - 2 years ago. I also came across another thread somewhere where they clearly stated that they do not neccessarily intend to take on the development work in the order or priorities expressed in the wishlist votes. Test
You are requested to review the workability of the following features, as to NPP feed, over test.wiki and suggest improvements in layout/language:-
- Under review available under Common.
- History Merge under Metadata.
- Sources exist under Sources.
- Revision deletion under a new category of Copyright violation (which was previously named Unwanted content that sounded pathetic to my ears:( It also had an extra tag reminding of non-policy-abiding external links, which I've taken liberty to shun, as extremely rarely used.)
- The description of the parameters of the revision deletion tag needs active shortening:-)
- G5 includes a parameter of banned user (as in Twinkle) and does not send t/p messages.

- Winged Blades of Godric, Looks good. The 'under review' tag is slightly awkward in that you have to mark the article as reviewed to place it, and that you have to manually remove it afterwards, but it is useful for when you are reviewing a complicated topic and want to have a bit of time and not get interrupted by another reviewer.
- I haven't tested the Hist merge or revdel tags yet, as I haven't come across an opportunity yet, but all looks great assuming that they work as expected. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 09:06, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

- Winged Blades of Godric Yes, that would be great. Is there some way to have the article not be marked as reviewed when adding the 'Under Review' tag though? - Winged Blades of Godric I got a chance to test out the revision deletion, and it looks and works great! Wishlist - getting it known
As promised, I've submitted a draft article for the magazine, but as no one seems to be overall control of the editorial team these days and with only one dayleft for deadline, I'm not sure it will be approved. Perhaps Bri or Nøkkenbuer could look into it. Knowing my way around the newsroom as former E-in-C, I could do a DIY job, but it looks as if I'm already persona non grata there. Administrators' newsletter – November 2018
News and updates for administrators from the past month (October 2018).
- A request for comment determined that non-administrators will not be able to request interface admin access.
- A request for comment is in progress to determine whether the Mediation Committee should be closed and marked as historical.
- A village pump discussion has been ongoing about whether the proposed deletion policy (PROD) should be clarified or amended.
- A request for comment is in progress to determine whether pending changes protection should be applied automatically to today's featured article (TFA) in order to mitigate a recent trend of severe image vandalism.
- Partial blocks is now available for testing on the Test Wikipedia. The new functionality allows you to block users from editing specific pages. Bugs may exist and can be reported on the local talk page or on Meta. A discussion regarding deployment to English Wikipedia will be started by community liaisons sometime in the near future.
- A user script is now available to quickly review unblock requests.
- The 2019 Community Wishlist Survey is now accepting new proposals until November 11, 2018. The results of this survey will determine what software the Wikimedia Foundation's Community Tech team will work on next year. Voting on the proposals will take place from November 16 to November 30, 2018. Specifically, there is a proposal category for admins and stewards that may be of interest.
- Eligible editors will be invited to nominate themselves as candidates in the 2018 Arbitration Committee Elections starting on November 4 until November 13. Voting will begin on November 19 and last until December 2.
- The Arbitration Committee's email address has changed to arbcom-enwikimedia.org. Other email lists, such as functionaries-en and clerks-l, remain unchanged.
Twinkle
WP:NPR's preferred settings for your I don't want to muddle your request at WT:TW any further but it reads like you want the option to set Twinkle's CSD behaviour rather than to set an initial default option. In the long run, given the number of patrollers who are already Twinkle users, and who already have an option set, a more impactful move may be to set up a list (page?) of project preferred Twinkle settings, and to advertise it on NPR.
WP:NPR's preferred settings for your Wikipedia:Twinkle/Preferences are:
- Speedy deletion (CSD)
- Mark page as patrolled when tagging (if possible)[1]
- Tag
- Check the "mark page as patrolled" box by default[2]
- Warn user
- Mark page as patrolled when nominating for AFD (if possible)[3]

Showing the ropes
I see that you're in London now and will be coming to the meetup so we may meet there. I also notice from your user page that you're interested in ropework. When you come to the meetup, you should take a look at Arthur Beale – a historic ropemaker and chandler which is walking distance from the meetup location. I wrote them up when they were threatened with closure but they seem to be doing ok now. We lost some other fine places recently though – Gaby's Deli and the Gay Hussar. When leaving Gaby's on their last night, last week, I noticed that the wonderful map store, Stanfords, is relocating soon, so make the most of that one while you can. Myself, I'm keen to visit NZ so maybe you can give me some tips on what to see there... Andrew D. (talk) 22:31, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

Your flowchart - interactive?
I thought I'd try to take a stab at what a friendlier tool for NPP might look like. I took your flowchart as an guide and turned it into a page that takes a reviewer through the review process. Have a look, and please let me know what you think: User:Vexations/NPPworkflow Vexations (talk) 04:24, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Vexations: I thought about doing this a while back. My thought was to use it as an example to request a user script be written where all of this would pop up in a window on the article and new reviewers could click their way through the steps and the script would add the tags/etc to the page as they went. Such a script would likely be very useful as a sort of interactive tutorial. One thing I'd suggest is that when asking if it is 'patent nonsense', etc, that it actually have the CSD rationale there for reference, or at least a 'help' link to it. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 07:39, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- Exactly. That's what I was thinking too. That would be next. Vexations (talk) 09:59, 6 November 2018 (UTC)

NPP school
Hi, to show that I would be a great New Page Reviewer, I've started a page: User:JC7V7DC5768/NPPschool. It lists all of the new unreviewed pages, that if I was a NPR ,I would have reviewed without CSDing, Prodding or AFDing them. It also shows what tags and fixes I made to said articles. Maybe you can review it and tell me if I am making progress??? JC7V-talk 16:42, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- JC7V7DC5768, I'll have a look when I have time (moving into a new flat today). Note that I am not really the one you have to convince. I might be the coordinator of NPP but I am not an admin and don't have the ability to change user-rights. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 08:58, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- JC7V7DC5768 I reviewed the first 56 pages on that list (October). Of those, most have no issues (though I would recommend using WP:RATER more, and turning on the auto-open feature).
- However, I have notability concerns for 100 Day Renovation (taken to AfD) and I also found Minor copvios/paraphrasing at North Point School for Boys and Lindy Lee. Please remember to always load the copyvio detector. Not sure how people missed the ones on the school, as multiple AfC reviewers appear to have missed it. Stefan Merunka has also been taken to AfD in the meantime, though looking at the confusion at the AfD discussion about whether he passes WP:NTENNIS or not, I don't hold this against you in the slightest.
- Unfortunately Leslie Joy Whitehead has to be CSDed as a copyright infringement of [1]. The author is probably the same author as that article. The article was a great read and the subject appears quite notable, which is regrettable. I'll chat with the author about it. You really should have noticed this though, and I have to reiterate the need to check for copyvios on every article you review (even if another user previously approved it via AfC).
- I'd suggest checking the rest of your reviews on that page again for copyvios and notability concerns and I'll have another look in a while. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 12:59, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

I added an infobox and filled in a few details; maybe you can fill in more. Yoninah (talk) 00:53, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
- Yoninah, I'm pretty sure that Natasha found this info directly from geneological sources (these forum posts indicate where the info was sourced from originally [2] but the links are all behind paywalls). However, I don't see any reason why we can't source Natasha and Alan's article directly for this comment, as that is the secondary source where it was first compiled, that is the best way to do it without engaging in synthesis (http://www.ebritic.com/?p=703462). While NataSOfficial (who is Natasha Stoyce from [3]) didn't cite her article at all while building the wikipedia entry, there isn't any reason we can't, especially when she is the one who compiled and first published info about her life after the war. I've cited it for the last paragraph and removed the CN tag. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 08:00, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
- Dear Yoninah and Insertcleverphrasehere - Insertcleverphrasehere, you're absolutely correct! All of the key information about Jo's personal life has come from genealogical sources such as FamilySearch, Ancestry.com etc. The information about her war-work/life, however, has come directly from contemporary newspaper articles and my own research (into the Scottish Women's Hospitals, with whom she briefly worked). Yoninah it would be absolutely fantastic if we could get Jo's name out there in time for the Centenary commemorations, especially as she has not been remembered before now. I would be very happy for the page to be put up for promotion so that more people can hear of this incredible woman. Perhaps somebody out there is a descendant/knows more about her and some of the blanks in her life can be filled out? — Preceding unsigned comment added by NataSOfficial (talk • contribs)

Hello Insertcleverphrasehere,
- Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW
- Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.
- If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.
- We are counting on significant support not only from our own ranks, but from everyone who is concerned with maintaining a Wikipedia that is free of vandalism, promotion, flagrant financial exploitation and other pollution.
- With all 650 reviewers voting for these urgently needed improvements, our requests would be unlikely to fail. See also The Signpost Special report: 'NPP: This could be heaven or this could be hell for new users – and for the reviewers', and if you are not sure what the wish list is all about, take a sneak peek at an article in this month's upcoming issue of The Signpost which unfortunately due to staff holidays and an impending US holiday will probably not be published until after voting has closed.

Help
Hi, I'd like you to do a progress report on me to tell me if I am heading in the right direction. You can view my NPP school. As can be seen, over 97% of the unreviewed new pages that I would have reviewed and not nominated or tagged for deletion are blue links. 2 of the red links are only red due to being CSD'd under G5 criteria. I also invite you to view my afc accepts since my NPR decline I've only accepted drafts that I was 100 percent sure on. I've continued to participate in AFD and still have over 90% match rate. I hope to reapply for NPR within a month within a year (I'd be more than willing to do so on a probationary basis). Thank you. JC7V (talk) 02:54, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
I've struck the above, I've got a lot more work to do than I thought due to recent mistakes.
- @JC7V First, have you seen my comments in the section above? I appreciate your energy, but I would focus on quality rather than quantity. Unfortunately, everyone makes mistakes, and the more quantity you do, the more likely you are to make a mistake that admins will point to and deny the user right. I'd slow down a bit more, focus on easy reviews rather than trying to review everything that comes in front of you (the borderline and judgement calls can be left to someone else at this stage, wait till you have more experience to do the difficult reviews). Always check for Copyvios with earwig and if you find them, err on the side of Revision Deletion, not CSD when the topic is notable or borderline notable or where the copied content is not 100% of the article. Blank your NPR school page and start over with the new methodology. In a while, apply and just straight ask for probationary to start with (if you had asked for Probationary in your last request, I think it would have been granted). Hope this helps, cheers. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 10:53, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
