Yeah, I figured it out just as you were posting this. Thanks. With User talk:Kdk1234 being used as a chat page irrelevent to Wikipedia, I think what we did was about appropriate for the circumstances -- warning the user first, then as the warning was ignored, the user was blocked. As they kept using the user page for irrelevent chat, I edit protected it. Cheers. -- Infrogmation 19:56, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Salvador Dali

[edit]

hi, not sure if this is the right way to do approach this or not, but on 1 December 2006 at 20:22, you reverted some additions i made to the political section on salvador dali. i don't have a user id on wikipedia but i have been making small contributions here and there. my edits were listed as by "24.80.185.127". i was wondering if you could take minute to explain a bit the criteria you used in deciding to revert the changes (i supplied some info i thought was relevant to the charges of anti-semitism, and i tried to cite it appropriately). i'm also willing to read general information about the topic of editing if you can point me to appropriate articles. thanks jess <anorak@lycos.com> —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.80.185.127 (talk) 02:42, 6 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

My only contribution to Image:Wiki.png seems to have been to have reverted a vandal years ago. The earliest version is alas credited on that page to "Automated conversion", noting an image from earlier version of Wikipedia before mid 2002 from which attribution seems to have sometimes been lost. However the next edits as you can see on that page were by User:Stevertigo, so you might try asking them. You can also ask on Image talk:Wiki.png, the talk page for the image. List of recordings preserved in the United States National Recording Registry

[edit]

You are one of several people who was instrumental in cleaning up my List of recordings preserved in the United States National Recording Registry page. This page was the first page I created and still remains the page that I have made the most edits to on wikipedia (95 edits). Thank you for your assistance. Since this page received so much more cleanup assistance than most of my other pages I am wondering if it was a focus article of a WikiProject Group. Do you know of any such designation? It would be helpful because I will be self nominating for admin tomorrow or Tuesday. Please reply at my userpage with any info you may have. TonyTheTiger 17:31, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

www.Salvador-Dali.net

[edit]

ArtsMode Network is a legal company sited in Figueres, just front the Salvador Dali Museum and Foundation.

The company was created in 1989 and we are the owners of various artworks of Salvador Dali, including “La Toile Daligram”, which is reproduced in the home page of www.Salvador-Dali.net. This web site is mainly dedicated to “Dali-News” and essays about Salvador Dali, in part created by people who works for ArtsMode, like “Els tres P Mesons” which articles you can see in “Wide articles and essays” (if you decide to visit it). This website is the result of years of hard work compiling information (written information) about the world of Salvador Dali, and we are very proud about it, enough to consider that it is a very useful tool for Wikipedia people really interested in Salvador Dali who wants or need to consult as much information as possible. In that way, we try to place a link to this information in Salvador Dali places, including Wikipedia.

Is one of the most visited web sites related with Salvador Dalí. Dali News and wide articles and essays have a wide collection of articles about Salvador Dalí, his life, Gala, Museums, Surrealism, etc.

Our web site was blacklisted by you, probably because we did not know well, when we placed at first the web site, how Wikipedia works, the rules and how to communicate with Administrators. And is still blocked.

The objective of www.Salvador-Dali.net is give information about Dali and his world, as you can verify, not spam.

Thanks for your comprehension,

The edit removed information-- including all the ISBN numbers of books refered to-- without any explanation, hence was reverted. Adding factual information to improve articles (without violating copyrights) is welcome; see Wikipedia:Introduction for tips. Victorian era semiprotection template

[edit]

Hi, Infrogmation. I semiprotected Victorian era because it was getting a lot of anon vandalism and no other editing: recent history consists exclusively of lots of vandalism + lots of reverts of it (sigh). You've left the protection in place but removed my sp template.[5] Was that what you meant to do? Bishonen | talk 21:34, 12 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Yeah, that page has been vandalized extensively. Thanks for pointing out the lost semiprotection template. No, I didn't remove it intentially; it seems to have gotten lost as I was looking for the last good edit before the multiple vandalisms to revert the article to. I put it back. Lack of civility

[edit]

I have a question about 70.253.165.71. I reverted his edit at The Fountain on the account that it was original research, and he started getting nasty on his own talk page toward me and another user. Our civility warnings only encouraged him, and he continued to be uncivil after our final warning. However, I wasn't sure if this was reportable, since it was on his own talk page, and he seems to have stopped making edits since. It seems to be the same person, despite the fact that the IP changed halfway through. How should something like this be handled, for the future? —Erik (talkcontrib) - 23:34, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

70.253.165.7's insults and profanity after warnings certainly merited a block; I've given them 24 hours off with a warning of a longer block if they continue more of the same. I gave 70.143.25.247 a warning. -- Infrogmation 23:45, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Note to Infrogmation from 1906 San Francisco earthquake

[edit]

I'm the one who noted the missing section on the subsequent fires -- was going to replace it, but you beat me to it!

Took a quick look at your user article and just have to say that for decades my family kept several apartments (everyone had their own, they were small, and no one knew who was going to show up, nor when, in New Orleans so it kept the peace to have them all separate) in the Saint Peter's Street building Larry Bornstein owned -- in which Alan Jaffe (and lots of others) started Preservation Hall. Bill Russell was writing about all of the musicians and one of the family was living in England working as a producer for BBC (and Alan King) when he came back to film "Kid" Orey before he died on us -- I was lucky enough to be involved. The film was shown in theaters in certain cities and aired on PBS through WGBH in Boston. You can imagine what it was like to have the music coming up through that courtyard the entire time they performed.

Can not remember the name of the artist who painted all of the musicians at the hall -- I have some of them, bought through Larry Bornstein -- do you know his name? Will check back to see if you do, or can find out.

Are you old enough to have eaten at Buster's? Best red beans and rice in town during the sixties, seventies, and eighties.

Tried to post this on your user talk page, was prevented from posting there by a blacklisted blocking notice... about a spam filter triggered by a Dali site that I have never visited. Thought you ought to know about that also... may be happening to others. Obviously I am not blocked here... so do not understand. --- k

I do have fond memories of Buster Holmes redbeans & rice, Bill Russell and some other things you mention. I was going to reccomend you post this more appropriately on my user talk page-- I don't know why you're blocked there but not here. I suggest you choose yourself a user name and log in, and let me know if there's still a problem. I believe the artist you're thinking of is Noel Rockmore. Block query

[edit]

Dear Infrogmation, I'm a bit baffled by your block on the user Briefmessager. Did it break some rule, or did you feel that it threatened Wikipedia in some way? It certainly wasn't meant to do either of those things and if it did I am sorry. I'd love to know what the problem was since my intent was not in the least harmful and after watching for a reply to the message I wanted to send and responding if appropriate I was going to leave a "user's left" (or whatever we call it) tag thingy on it, and forget the account anyway. It's a long and complicated story but goes to my wanting to apologise to a user to whom I was stupidly rude in a hotheaded moment, but I did not want to use my IP address or a previous user name, the previous users I have been being very dead or mostly dead (or should be dead!). I did not want to ID myself (and I would be most grateful if you could please avoid doing so here, too) since the account from which I did lots of editing in the past is very dead and I wish it to remain so, and indeed I am in the process of trying to give up being here at all. I got into a civility mess - which underlines, by the way, why I should not edit here - and was trying to sort it out: indeed I hope I have now done so. But I am unsure as to why this demanded administrator intervention? I am not and never have been (till now!) a banned user, have not been disruptive, and am just a touch baffled. Thanks and best wishes. BaffledYetOddlyConfused 08:01, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We've been having a problem with some people creating accounts to use their talk pages as chat rooms irrelevent to Wikipedia. As Briefmessager said they created the account "for a single-purpose bit of message sending" it seemed another example of such. If there has been some misunderstanding and I can rectify something, let me know. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 14:40, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much for the considerate and helpful reply. I am pleased to confirm that the User:Briefmessager account was not anything like that. If you could please see your way to unblocking the account, you will see it making a dignified exit, which I'd very much prefer. I did, as indicated above, screw up in being foolishly rude to someone else over a talk page (loooong story) but I would like to think that's now resolved and I will no longer have any need of an account like that. It's just that I'd feel a lot happier doing it this way, if you do not mind. Please rest assured that this account does not have any form of disruptive behaviour or wikicontraindicated usage on its mind! :) BaffledYetOddlyConfused 12:52, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, having become somewhat rusty on these matters, I had not realised that I could replace the "blocked" message with the "user left" one whilst logged in as this user. Sorry - a bit thick of me. So, in fact, I am now happy with the appearance of the account - that is, it left - and since I have no intention of using it again, it probably does not matter whether or not you unblock it. Sorry about all this confusion, and thanks. BaffledYetOddlyConfused 10:22, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That account, and this, are permanently gone. Thanks for your help. BaffledYetOddlyConfused 01:55, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Oh, and while I am at it querying things, I have no idea what one would normally do with this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Gfirman_en

You can probably see that the edits consist only of links to one site, which appears to be run by the user. For all I know they may be fabulously useful links and of course the user may not know about policy, but isn't there something that encourages people not to do this? I am not planning to take further action as it contradicts *my* policies :) but wanted to mention it to someone with magical powers. Ta, BaffledYetOddlyConfused 12:50, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since you seem to address these things well, Burr Bob is an "editor" that was permanently blocked on the basis of a vandalism-only account. Unspecified source for Image:MachisonSisters.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:MachisonSisters.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Svencb 00:14, 19 December 2006 (UTC)^[reply]

Gidday, Infrogmation. I think it's quite possible that Chunchucmil (talk · contribs) who has been making some useful edits and adding some links to images of mesoamerican sites may in fact be Mr. Hixson, whose runs the site containing the images being linked to, at for eg Calakmul. If so then it's possible that their intention in linking to the site's frontpage is because the site's subpages are frequently reorganised, and the recommendation at the main page is to link there in case of broken links.

I've left a message at that user's talk page to ask whether (if they are Mr. Hixson) he may consider releasing a couple of images to use on wikipedia. However, I will not be online very much myself over the next two weeks or so; if you are going to be around then I was wondering whether you'd be able to keep an eye out for any responses, either on their talk page or mine, or perhaps at WT:MESO; hope you don't mind.

In any event, all the best for the holiday season! Regards, --cjllw | TALK 02:11, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note, and best wishes to you as well. I'll try to keep an eye on things for a bit. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 14:17, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Yes, I'm "Chunchucmil" - David R. Hixson (a Maya archaeologist and PhD Student at Tulane University). I own and maintain the "Mesoamerican Photo Archives" website that is frequently linked on various pages. I'm also the moderator for FAMSI's listserv "Aztlan" and the editor for their online journal. As it states on my MPA homepage, all links to my site should be directed at www.mesoamerican-archives.com. This is because that link is a re-direct that I own. I hope to gain my PhD in the next year or two, and the MPA site will likely be wiped from Tulane's servers. Before that happens, I will move my site to another server. But I will maintain the rights to that domain name. So, in the mean time, if you link to my individual galleries, those links risk being broken in the coming years.

If anyone wants to use a photo of mine online, I ask for specific permissions, and must preview the page. I will not relinquish all rights to any image on my website (sorry). But I can allow limited use rights.

Forgive my Wiki-knowledge. I am just learning this system. If I make any errors, please feel free to let me know.

I, along with a colleague (fellow Maya Archaeologist), created the Chunchucmil Wiki page just a few weeks ago. We have been conducting research there for the last 7 years. Any suggestions for improvement would be welcome.

We then spidered out from that to various related pages and found some minor innaccuracies. I edited them, but only meant to improve, not offend. Again, let me know if I ever overstep proper manners for Wiki contributions. (User:Chunchucmil)

Hi, and again welcome! A tip: please sign your talk page comments. Just add 4 tildes ~ in a row, and the system will add your user name and the date automatically. Thanks for writing. No need to appologize. Policy is to prefer direct external links unless there is a good reason to do otherwise; thanks for explaining the reason to do otherwise in this case. I'm favorably impressed with the Chunchucmil page, and pleased someone with your knowledge has been active in helping improve Wikipedia's coverage of Mesoamerica. Let me know if I can be of any assistance. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 14:10, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. I just looked over the licensing issues with Wikipedia images. I would be willing on a case-by-case basis to allow certain images from my Mesoamerican Photo Archives site to be used in the various Mesoamerican sections. I would require advanced notice of how each image would be used, and then the license would have to be the CC version that requires others to attribute the work to me (David R. Hixson). And I would politely ask that any page using one of my images have a link to www.mesoamerican-archives.com somewhere on the page. Does this sound reasonable?
I've also added some info and an image to the Chunchucmil Wiki page. I am still trying to correct the license code I used for that new image (I initially used "only for eductional use" and Wiki warned me that my image will be deleted). I tried ammending this to CC SA 2.5 but I'm not sure if it "stuck". Any help would be appreciated Chunchucmil 14:06, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I removed the "nowiki" on Image:Chunchucmil-reconstruction.jpg so the cc sa 2.5 displays, presuming that's what you were talking about. You can add something like "Attribution credit to David R. Hixson www.mesoamerican-archives.com" to the image page. In case it wasn't clear, note that in Wikipedia having the attiribution on the image page is considered sufficent, as any user seeing the image an article can click the image for more information. While Wikipedia could certainly benifit from using some of your images, that of course is your call, so read up on the GFDL and Creative Commons licences first if you're in doubt. -- Infrogmation 15:54, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A request for assistance

[edit]

Would you support the concept of moving the Earhart "myths" to a separate page or article? The reason for my suggesting this is that the main article should be an accurate and scholarly work while the speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding the disappearance of Amelia Earhart are interesting, they belong in a unique section. Most researchers, as you know, discount the many theories and speculation that has arisen in the years following her last flight. Go onto the Earhart discussion page and register your vote/comments...and a Happy New Year to you as well. Bzuk 02:50 3 January 2007 (UTC).

63.110.181.134 and Murr

[edit]

Hallo,

as you had blocked 63.110.181.134 (talk · contribs) for vandalism once, I ask you to block him from editing the article on the river Murr as his only recent activity is trying to squeeze the equation "Murr = Meow x 1,000,000" into it. Thanks in advance! -- Matthead discuß!     O       21:49, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Maya Page

[edit]

Hey Infrogmation, just wanted to let someone know on the Wiki Meso project that I just added an article on Oxkintok. I was tired of having a dead link on my Chunchucmil page, and decided to just go and make one for Oxkintok. Look it over and feel free to comment or edit. Most of the text was off the top of my head, and I did insert my own photo and map, then I inserted references below. I just figured it should be covered by the Wiki Meso project in general, and thought you'd be a good person to notify. Happy New Year! Chunchucmil 21:01, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Infromation, for your help in indexing and Wikifying the Oxkintok page. I would, however, question the rating of "low importance", and suggest a "mid importance" rating for the entry. In fact, I was very surprised that the site did not already have a wiki entry. Oxkintok is a "rank 1" site in the "Atlas" designation (Garza and Kurjack 1980; a rank only given to the top cultural innovators such as Uxmal, Chichen Itza, etc.) and the site has been included in every textbook on the ancient Maya for nearly a century. I'm not complaining, just FYI. Chunchucmil 22:01, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll change it to "Mid" accordingly. Lots of the assesments on such articles are just preliminary at this point. Suggesting changes on the article talk pages is welcome. Happy New Year to you as well, -- Infrogmation 22:09, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal Returns

[edit]

Dear Infrogmation,

I regret to report that the user 12.177.48.100, a repeat offender whom you blocked previously and warned, has resumed vandalizing.

Cleanup of his work is going to take time and effort that could have gone into other projects. A long-term block of this low-life would be really lovely. Can you help? And in general, whom should I report repeat vandals to? Wikipedia's vandalism reporting policies are so long and convoluted, I begin to suspect they're vandal-friendly. I love the Undo button, but surely there's a button I can press to make vandals go away. -- JEBrown87544 22:57, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, you blocked him (before I wrote). Never mind :^) And thank you. -- JEBrown87544 04:37, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfair block

[edit]

Why did you block Whippin tiedan? He has made no edits since his final warning[6] nearly seventeen hours ago. John Reaves 01:53, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It appears to me that all of the user's edits were vandalism, and the user did more vandalism after the first time they were warned that a block was in store if it continued. -- Infrogmation 02:28, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but not after the final warning. Perhaps a timed block would better. John Reaves 02:44, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't see reason to assume the user was here for anything but vandalism, but I'll change the block per your suggestion. I changed the block to 1 week. How's that sound to you? -- Infrogmation 03:06, 6 January 2007 (UTC
Sounds good, I was going to suggest a week, but you beat me to it. John Reaves 03:08, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Talking Cross

[edit]

I think that the Talking cross (or Talking cross cult?) merits its own (short) article, rather than just passing mention in Caste war of Yucatan and Chan Santa Cruz. I could do a brief stub with no references, but I'm sure you could do a better job. --Homunq 13:18, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Per, m:Help:Transwiki, it is the job of the users on the destination site to format the article appropriately, then merge or do whatever to ensure that the article is the way it should be. Or, so goes my interpretation. Am I grossly wrong? If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 06:41, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll keep it as is for now, but I'd appreciate a response in this matter, and then we can gain consensus. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 06:45, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not entirely sure what you're asking. If you're transfering an image gallery to Commons, I think it's pretty clear that the transwiki hasn't been finished if many of the relevent images havn't been moved to Commons. I replied more on your talk page; I'll watch there if you have additional questions. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 15:06, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Redundancy

[edit]

Infrogmation - my bad - sorry about that. I did not know that. My intent was to get the Category:Mesoamerican sites to actually show a list of meso sites... there were only a few on there at first. Oaxaca dan 22:43, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recordings preserved in the National Recording Registry

[edit]

You have contributed as an editor to the List of recordings preserved in the United States National Recording Registry. It is undergoing an overhaul according to the recent peer review that generated the following feedback. In addition to the changes there, it is undergoing stylistic changes that prevail at lists that have been selected as featured lists. Conversion to wikitable format began with 2002 today because most articles that reach featured list status are in this format. Feel free to convert additional years, add more columns, or add further details. Hopefully many of the editors who have helped edit this page to its pre review state will help improve it to a featured list quality level. I may not return to make further edits until next week. Howdy, Infrogmation! It's a long shot, but I don't suppose you can recall the specific source for the piece of info at the a/n article re that site's Zapotec language name (presumably post-conquest) being Danipaguache? I think it was something you'd recorded when creating that article aeons ago (well, 3 yrs anyway)[7]. I'd asked Oaxaca dan but he was none the wiser and have not otherwise been able to track it down- I'd just like to start collecting some refs for planned future expansions. Cheers!--cjllw | TALK 00:20, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't remember. If I put it in, I presume I got it from some book or website that seemed plausibly reliable to me at the time. Ack, I wish I could tell you where from. If something seems dubious, feel free to move it to talk. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 00:11, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Travellingbazaar

[edit]

Hello Infrogmation,

I'm new to the world of Wikipedia, and am not sure if my edits yesterday evening were done in the correct manner. Perhaps you could help/advise.

Basically, I am a travel photographer living in Munich, and wished to make my photographs/galleries available to the Wikipedia community...galleries from around the world including, Germany, India, Singapore, etc. As an example, here are the Munich galleries for your consideration:

http://www.travellingbazaar.com/munich%201.html

Yesterday I linked several of my galleries to relevent Wikipedia 'External Links' sections, however the edits were subsequently removed. Was there some editing mistake on my part or are the galleries not suitable for Wikipedia? To add to my confusion, user 'Kingjef' has invited me to contribute to the Munich page, after my contribution was removed.

Please advise. -- Travellingbazaar 16:05, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I replied on you user talk page. Hope this helps, -- Infrogmation 17:25, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your interest in Wikipedia. In reply to your question on my talk page, note the earlier message that Wikipedia should not be used as a link farm. Your participation to help us build a better free content encyclopedia is welcome; if you are here just to promote a particular website, that is considered spamming, and is not welcome. As all of your earlier edits seemed to be of the latter type, they were reverted. I presume the invitation to contribute to the Munich article is extended to all who have edited the article and thus may have an interest in the subject. Hope this helps, -- Infrogmation 17:25, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply, Infrogmation. I have been travelling and photographing for the last 15 years or so, during which time I have build up an exceptional amount of travel material, much of which is unique. Instead of having hundreds of slides sitting in shoe boxes, I wish to allow others to share in my experience. For this reason, I have and still am investing many hours in Travellingbazaar.com. If time and wife would allow, I would directly integrate my photo's into Wikipedia, however I and my wife are presently running at our limits :) Thus, yesterday's attempt at linking specific photo galleries with specific Wikipedia content... I simply cannot do both jobs.
Q. What feeling does a person currently get from the Wikipedia Junagadh page?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junagadh

or from the Bergamo page and it's link to the official Bergamo website (in Italian)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bergamo

Could these two examples not be improved with links to,

http://www.travellingbazaar.com/junagadh%201.html

http://www.travellingbazaar.com/bergamo%201.html

As I say, it's just an idea.
Thanks,
